Lenovo ThinkCentre SFF M700 Intel Quad Core i7-6700, 16GB RAM, 500GB Solid State Drive, GPU Upgrade

Q: Lenovo ThinkCentre SFF M700 Intel Quad Core i7-6700, 16GB RAM, 500GB Solid State Drive, GPU Upgrade

Looking to upgrade GPU for 3D software needs (Not games). On the June 2017 compatibility matrix I only see the Nvidia Quadro K420 as applicable. That card does not have a high enough 3DPassMark for the software I am using. What options do I have to get a more powerful GPU for this machine? I only need 1 video out. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thinking of getting a 32GB one for my OS... Anyone have one and what do you think of it? What would it score on WEI?

A:OCZ Core SATA II Solid State Drive

32GB seems a little tight to me for the OS. It would be over 50% with just the base OS...not leaving much room for updates, service packs, etc. I'd really hold off and save your money until you can get into a 60GB OS drive. That's just my suggestion.

Hi,

I was just wondering, what is the difference between normal quad core, and the ones with "extreme" stuck on the end. Both from Intel.

This also applies to Core 2 Duo from Intel.

I can't spot it (except for the price), so someone help me out here.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. I was going to install it, but digging into that link you provided shows that some users are getting drive health warnings with this toolbox that were not shown with the earlier toolbox. So it may be a bit buggy and I'm going to wait a while on it, particularly since I don't think I need any of the new features.

Folks, I've decided, after much research, to get the 2.5" Intel X25-M Solid State Drive for my Thinkpad T60p. There was a lot of negative feedback about them, but there were several benchmark tests, independent reviews, and end user comments to convince me, so the decision is made.

Since it's so new (Intel started shipping the MLC version only this month, with the SLC to follow suit later this year), so I need help FINDING a source where I can find one.

I've emailed Intel about it, but I don't think Intel ships them to end consumers. I haven't been able to find it anywhere, so maybe any of you guys can help me?? I'll run it for a month and write a detailed report about it, which may help some of you who are on the fence about getting an SSD for yourselves.

Thanks everyone! I'm looking forward to dropping my $600 for the 80GB one A-S-A-P!

Hi I would like to upgrade my hard drive to a SSD.  Is it compatible to upgrade to an SSD? I have a HP HDX premium series Model FZ946PA regards Andrew

A:Solid State Drive upgrade

It's older, but they don't make anything just like it any more. In my opinion, one of the best laptops HP ever made. Here is the Service Manual: Manual See p. 4-11. It can actually hold two hard drives but if you are going to install an SSD put it in the primary bay and use it as the boot drive.  In a nutshell, yes it can use and benefit from an SSD. It has the Intel 945 chipset with the ich9 storage controller so is capable of true SATA, native command queuing, TRIM, etc.  If you need more help post back.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Can I install windows 7 on the ssd externally if I connect it to my computer through my esata port, and then just transfer my docs/media and reinstall my programs? Also how do I need to tweak the drive to get it to work optimally (ahci mode, superfetch, etc.). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It has to be connected inside where it will be running Windows. If you change its location afterward (even if Windows allowed external installations, which it does not), it won't run.

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford 1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

Hi guys. I've been looking at 2 laptops, they are basically identical but one has an Intel Core i3-4005U mobile processor and 4GB of RAM, and the other one has an AMD A4-5000 mobile processor and 6GB RAM. The guy at the store and a couple other people I know told me that the Core i3 is better than the A4 as the AMD "Quad Core" processors aren't very good, so even though the Intel i3 is only dual core it will be better than the quad core AMD. The other question is the RAM. Is 6GB that much better than 4GB or will 4GB be fine for basic use. (That's all this laptop is for. Basic use and touch apps since it will be touchscreen)

The AMD laptop is this one: Buy the HP Pavilion Notebook - AMD A4, 6GB, 15.6 at TigerDirect.ca
And the Intel here: Buy the HP TouchSmart 15.6 Notebook PC - F5W37UA#ABL at TigerDirect.ca

Last question, what the hell is DDR3L? All the new laptops have it nowadays... Is it backward compatible with normal DDR3 laptop RAM? Meaning can I take a normal laptop DDR3 4GB stick out of my dads laptop and put it into the 4GB (i3) laptop if thats the one i'm gonna get? Or does the DDR3 "L" part cause issues?
Thanks

Edit: Sorry i'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread. If it isn't mods could you please move it? Thanks

A:AMD A4-5000 "Quad Core" vs Intel Core i3-4005U Dual Core

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

The i5 can be boosted from 3.2 to 3.46 (single core Turbo). That 3.46 is a 30% advantage over the 2.66 of the quad core.

I regularly see comments from quad core owners saying they wish they had stayed with a higher clocked dual core.

I'd go with the dual core unless you can find convincing evidence that your particular applications can in fact benefit significantly from 4 cores. You would then have to decide how often you use the applications that might benefit.

Here is a long thread on dual core versus quad core:

Will AMD produce anything to match Intel's Quad Core? Or is Quad Core the way to go now, (performance wise)?

A:Intel Quad Core

Yes, AMD are about to realease Quad in the near future but... to be honest AMD are not soo great at the moment so I would stick to Intel at this current time (please don't send me AMD hate mail now)

Quad is the way to go, but is not widespread at the moment but the extra two cores can still be used by the OS splitting up apps across cores and is a great way to futrue proof. I would alos suggest using Vista Home Premium or Ultimate 64 with an Intel Core2Quad CPU.

Is it possible to change the dual core processor I have for an i5 processor, is this type of motherboard capable of taking it? I have some screen captures from CPUID of my system specs, hopefully that will be enough info. If it can't take the i5 could it take any other quad-core processor?

I have a Compaq Pressario desktop PC, Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB DDR3 RAM.

Thanks

Thanks.

Hello guys,

I have a dual core i5 CPU M4800.
I want to upgrade it to an i7-4900MQ quad core CPU. Is this a possible upgrade?
Will i7 CPU work fine with my current motherboard?
M4800's CPUs are not soldered. I found out I can also buy an i7 CPU for this model.

I'd like to know what happens when I put an i7 quad core CPU on my M4800...

Thanks in advance,
