Q: Solved: Acer Aspire 5920G Acer Arcade Button

Previously, this button would open Windows Media Center when pressed. Though it has stopped doing that and don't know why. How can I fix this?
All the other Mediatouch keys are working fine.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

Greetings
LikeLinux
(And yes, I'm a real Linux fan^^ I've used always Ubuntu. This is the first time that I use Windows )

I'm having a little problem with the MediaTouch buttons on my Acer Aspire 5920G..
Here is a picture of the laptop itself:
Now, If you look to the bottom right of the laptop, You'll notice play/stop/forward skip, rewind skip buttons aswell as a button that looks like it can be pushed but can't... lol okay, well When I touch any of those buttons while playing a song in Windows Media Player, Nothing happens.. It's as if they are not responding but the lights are on!
The only button that does work on that side is the top one, which lauches Acer Arcade Deluxe.

I've never had a problem with something like this until now.

Please help me in any way possible.. Thanks

Hi guys

I'm hoping you can help me with a annoying problem....

About 4 years ago i bought this Acer Aspire 5920g with Vista as the OS..
Back then i didn't like it, so i switched to XP.. Then Win7 came and i got that on board.

Now, i'm a sucker for reinstalling the OS, when i feel my comp is getting slower and always with a good result, when installing the drivers... Until now...

Now, when i try to install my gfx driver (It's an nVidia Geforce 8600GT) it goes bananas and ends up in a 256 color 640x480 resolution.....

I've tried and tried and asked friends, but no one can help me, so i'm trying you guys now......

WTF to do? :S

Thanks in advance

Hello to All!

I stumbled upon this thread as I was looking for help after failing to install Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit from USB stick.
I'll describe below steps I took and how I got to the current situation:

1. I was using Win Vista 32 bit on the Acer Aspire 5920G-302G16Mi with the following specification:Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.0 GHz; Cache 4 MB; Bus Speed 800 MHz
Chipset: Manufacturer Intel; Chipset Model PM965 Express
Storage: 160 GB, serial ATA, 5400 RPM
Graphics: GF 8600 MGT up to 1024 MG (256 internal memory)
RAM: originally 2 x 1 GHz, changed to 1 x 2 GHz and 1 x 1 GHz
2. I decided to install OS from the beginning and chose Win 8. Iso version was found on the web, claimed as an official and untouched one, and then transferred to stick thanks to MS tool.
3. During the 1st try I was able to see every partition. I deleted the system one (I still have logical one with some data) and created new one where Win 8 was supposed to be installed. Unfortunately error while copying data occurred. Following attempts with less and / or different RAM chips failed so I decided to transfer iso image to USB stick using other computer.
4. Using newly created bootable stick computer couldn't find any HDD drive (despite the fact that while using 'browse' option everything was visible).
5. Many tries of different SATA drivers found on the web (including Intel and other sites) gave nothing. On the Acer support site (Acer | Download) I also didn't find suitable drivers as I couldn't f... Read more

So here is my problem with Acer Aspire 5920G: (also I don't understand much about computers, bear with me)

One night I turn off my laptop like normaly, the next morning I turn it on for a surprise. The screen remained pitch black even though I could clearly hear windows boot up, along with other programs like skype popping up. Pressed a few random keys and thought I should restart. Same thing, no reaction from the screen what so ever, but I can still clearly hear windows starting up.

So I browse the internet and here's what I've tried:

- I removed the battery, held the power button for a while, re-inserted the battery, turn it back on >No help
- I switch my RAM cards with one another > Doesn't work
- Turn it on and point a flashlight at the screen to check the backlight, nada
- I check if the magnet for detecting if the screen is up or down is working, and it is, when I lower my screen it goes to hybernate mode, boots up if I click something
- I plugged in an external monitor (new and functional) and press the switch screen button combo, but its not reacting, the external monitor stays black too

It doesn't flicker or anything, its giving off no signs of life, but I'm puzzled because if the screen died it should clearly work on an external monitor, which it doesn't.

Has anyone encountered a problem like this? Any ideas on how I might fix it myself, and even if I can I'm still wondering about what it might be befo... Read more

Hello,
This is perhaps the most mysterious problem that has happened to
my laptop.

Problem: Once pressing the start button, it doesn't start up.
The cpu light display doesn't respond, neither does the screen (which is not even "on", but black,) neither does the keyboard, caps lock etc. But, the lights on the wifi + bluetooth and the light around the start button is on.

I've tried the whole "remove batter + power, hold the start button for 60sec, put back the batter" and nothing.

Some Background:
I recall this happening 3 other times. Each time having to do with my external harddrive. I remember the exact same problem occuring from some interference with the harddrive, and then my laptop miracolously works the next morning. I.e. being off for ca. 9-12 hours. This time when it happened, I plugged my external harddrive in while the laptop was starting up. Once the laptop was up and running, the laptop couldn't "see" the external harddrive, so I switched it off and the problem started.

Some info:
The external hardrive is plugged in via a usb cable, I use vista 32bit...

Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

A friends laptop, during boot the screen showed 2 groups of about 10 vertical lines running from top to bottom on the left hand and right hand side of the screen whilst the ACER logo-wallpaper was visible. After booting I changed the VGA drivers to standard VGA and during reboot the problem disappeared. After loading the NVIDIA Drivers update from the Acer website, during the shut-down-restart process I had a BSOD.
Now during boot the screen is lit up but remains blank - with a CD in the CD Drive I can hear the laptop accessing it .
I removed the HDD and placed it in my desktop and this booted up normally. Could this be a Graphics card problem on the laptop or should I reaccess the HDD from desktop and delete the VGA driver files. If yes where and which (on the laptop HDD) could I find these files.
Failing all of the above is a there a "blind way" to access the boot from CD/USB option as I can't even access the BIOS so as to change the boot oprions and reinstall the OS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have Acer Arcade Deluxe on my laptop, and since day one I cannot play Bluray discs in it. I have contacted Cyberlink Support many times, and they referred me to Acer Support. Which I did contact, and received a reply from after more than a month. Their advice was to remove and then re-install Acer Arcade Deluxe by using Acer e-recovery on my laptop. Although I can install it on the e-recovery program, it does not remove it for me and says I have to remove the current version first. I cannot find the uninstall link in either my add or remove programs list in control panel, and neither in the Acer Arcade files in my list of program files on Acer (C). I have searched the internet for an uninstall link, or more support, and found nothing. I also cannot update Acer Arcade, as I get an error message saying: '' Update failure Check if your current installation is correct''. What is there that I can do, please help as I am not getting much support from either Acer nor Cyberlink. Just to mention, all other CD's and DVD's play fine, I only have a problem with Bluray discs. If the lights off most likely the wifi card is bad. Check the device manager to make sure it's installed properly. If it is, its likely dead. However if it's shown as "error with this device" might need to simply reinstall the drivers.

Most likeley, your wirless card needs to be replaced.  Sometimes you can get lucky by removing the wirless card, restarting the computer, then shutting down the computer and physically reinstalling the card again.  In most cases, when you cannot control a wireless card's ability to turn on an off, it usually means the wifi card is a dud. In your case, removing/replacing the card on the 4520 is pretty easy compared to most machines.  Watch this youtube video from the :18 second mark through the first 30 seconds.  That's all the time it took for the person disassembling the laptop to remove the card.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yucUQbEiNXg Also note, it looks like in most cases, the 4520 machine came with a full size b/g mini pci wifi card.  I believe the s/n is T60H976.  I would recommend throwing in just about any Atheros half size mini pci wireless card with wireless N capabilities (huge performance increase for a minimal amount of cost, assuming your router supports wireless N).  Just keep in mind if you throw in a half size card, you will also need to get a half size bracket extension so that the half size card can fit the full size slot on your computer.  It can all easily be done with about $10-$20 in parts on ebay, and will give your computer much better wireless performance.  I recommend going with another Atheros card because sometimes manufacturues will not whitelist or recognize other manufacturer card... Hello all. So a day ago my Ethernet wasn't working and I couldn't rely on a wired connection, so I looked at some fourms and was told to remove the Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet driver, which is what I did, and I restarted the computer. When I turned it back on I reinstalled the driver and the ethernet worked. But the WIFI did not.  So I looked up how to fix it and attempted to reinstall the driver and I also added another driver in the process. None worked and I've tried nearly everything to fix it. Installing a new driver, reinstalling, flushing dns, disabling and enabling the service, even reinstalling the BIOS, and tons of other stuff but I've had no luck so far. The wierd thing that happens is the WIFI option is greyed out but the Network Connections say it's enabled.  Also, in Device Manager when I go to the Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet driver it says "Device Not Started" Any idea what's causing the immense amount of problems I'm dealing with on my computer?   P.S. I won't be able to post for a few days, because of a trip and I cannot bring my computer because it's usless if I don't have ethernet. So please hurry because I will be leaving tommorow. On 8/8/16 Thanks, Brad

The left click button on the touchpad of my Acer Aspire One Netbook recently stopped working properly. It won't let me click ( except sometimes after pressing the button repeatedly), and when it does, it highlights everything on the page and drags the links I try to click. I can't get it out of drag mode, and trying to use the scroll bar is hell because it won't stop scrolling. I think the left click button is stuck.

I've had the computer for three years, and up until a few weeks ago, I'd never had this problem. I don't want to send it back to Acer or buy any new parts. Is there any solution to this problem?

Go to the Acer Driver page Acer | Download find your model and download the Touch Pad Driver.
Go to the Control Panel/Mouse (or touchpad) and adjust the sensitivity.

Hi,
My acer aspire 5920 wireless button is not working. It is not getting switched on.
I am using windows xp.
Is there any driver issue or something else?
need some real help.

A:Acer aspire 5920 wireless button not working

This could be a hardware problem. But I guess it could be a driver issue, but hardware would be more likely.

First go here:
- Click the Start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Right click on my computer and select manage
- On the left hand side, find device manager and go to it
- Do you see any yellow exclamations or red x's?

Now, I am assuming your wireless is not working? Can you get internet when you plug a cable from the router into the computer?

If your wireless is not working, I am assuming it is turned off and you are trying to use the wireless button to turn it back on. There are other ways to turn on the wireless besides using the button.
- Go to the start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Select control panel
- Select Network and Internet Connections
- If you don't see this, on the left hand side select Switch to Category View
- After network and internet connections, select network connections
- You should now be able to see some network interfaces
- For your wireless one, right click it and select enable
- Wireless should now be on.

I recently bought a new screen for my acer aspire 5920g to upgrade the 1280x800 supplied screen. The new screen is WSXGA (1650x900), I've managed to get to the point of exchanging the screens however it seems as though acer only have wired up half the LCD cable. Now, I thought no problem, i'll wire the rest up myself. The only issue is that i'm not sure it is possible, there are not another 8 connections on the motherboard plug to wire up...... does anyone know if this is possible?

Hi,

I've been having this problem for some time now (more or less since I've installed win7 beta), but it's getting worse.

I get BSODs with different messages, inluding:
- ntfs.sys
- atapi.sys (or something like this)
- there was another one, relating to volume manager... can't remember exactly
- lots of generic STOP with no driver details

I think the problem is somewhere in IO stack. I can more or less replicate BSOD by intensive disk IO tasks (compiling, running virus scans...). Unfortunately, since IO dies, minidumps are NOT written.

Where do I start? How do I debug this? I've ran clamav and it found no virueses and it did NOT crash my system (so I guess HW is ok). I'll try scanning for rootkits from a livecd (if i find one). Windows rootkit detectors just crash the machine (high IO).

Ideas?

I had initially installed windows 7 on this computer as soon as i got it, but due to these problems i reinstalled vista believing it may be a driver incompatibility issue. This turned out not to be the case as it doesn't work in vista either.
I opened up the casing to expose the actual buttons beneath and there is no visible trauma and the upper keys make good contact with the inner buttons. All the buttons, both left and right buttons; as well as the four scroll keys are all on the same board which makes me believe this has got to be a driver option. But, I'm open to any suggestions or ideas.
Can anybody help me make this work??? I really like this computer and would love to have it functioning completely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks at least for reading this..

I apologise in advance if i irritate you but i litterally have no clue what is what when it comes to laptops.

Ive had my Acer Aspire 5920 for a good few years now, it ran perfectly fine on vista for a good 3 years, not a hitch or care in the system. Then out of no where it goes missing for a week, and my mums ex boyfriend had upgraded it to 'windows 7 extreme edition' and none of the buttons of the sides worked, including the most important one- the wireless.

now i understand that a driver synaptics or something fixed the others, and it did. but still the wireless and all the buttons to the left refuse to work.

i cant ask the ex for help because he left on very bad terms and i have none of my original discs left. My friend has now got me running windows 7 professional 32 bit and i have the glowy buttons working, but not the wireless.

the reason i need wireless is soon im going to uni where i cant plug it into the wall to get the internet-that and the socket for the internet cable has started to melt and warped out of shape.

i cant seem to find ANY advice on this matter, that or i just simply dont understand the jargon. I dont care if it means going back to vista as that was fine to work with anyway - but how would i go about doing that if so?

Sorry to be a pain in the dariair.

Hello CluelessAcer

Have a look here Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 5920 I have a few models up from you and those buttons are controlled by the Launch Manager Application at the bottom of the page. You should also be able to find any missing drivers/applications here.

Just switched to Windows 7 and found I am not able to install Launch Manager or even if I can do it in "compatible" mode, in the end my hardware volume control slider does not control the sound volume at all.

Anyone got solutions? or Anyone using Acer 5920G or similiar Acer models?

What version of LM are you using? I have Windows 7 on my 5920g and found version 2.0.02 worked a treat. You may find this thread useful Acer Aspire 5920g

Hey,

Since I changed my default laptop 2x 1gb ram to 2x2gb from kingston I get random bluescreens, sometimes in the first seconds watching a vid with vlc, sometimes when I haven't touch the laptop and start moving the mouse, and some other situations. 9 hour memtest shows no errors, haven't tried them separately.
Going back to my old ram (which was fine before) is not an option, since it makes starting 32 bit programs impossible (something about syswow64). BIOS update won't work while in w7 & the boot cd's I made keep loading..

I'm up to date with Acer's w7 64 bit drivers..

Specs:
Acer Aspire 5920G-302G16N
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T7300 (2.0 GHz)
Intel Crestline-PM PM965
Kingston 4GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM (New)
1GB Intel Turbo Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT TurboCache

Hi and welcome

With only one BSOD and very little info in it. I am going to have to be more general than I would like. This kind of crash can be caused by three things. Hardware (incompatible or bad), Software (the OS or other), and memory.
Since you have already run memtestx86 I would start by upgrading the drivers listed below. They are 3 years old and I suspect you didnt do a clean install whan you upgraded to win 7

Run a system file check to verify and repair your systems files. You may need to run it more than once. Run it untill the replort generated says no errors found.

My Acer 5920g Laptop WILL NOT charge,

I just received it back from Acer and they said there is no fault. I have 3 different AC adapters (none of which will charge) and two batteries (neither of which will charge). I thought it may have been the plug at the back of the laptop but they say that it is working. I only have a few months left on my extended warranty.

I have wiggled the cord, I have bought new a new battery (which worked until it ran out of charge), two new chargers (one of which worked for one day, the other not at all) and sent it to the manufacturer. The OS is Vista.

Can someone please give me some idea what to do next? I have seen external laptop chargers, but I'm worried it will just be another waste of money. HELP!!!

When you sent it to Acer, did you also send the battery and charger?

Hello and sorry for my english is not my mother language. I have an acer 5920g. When i turn it on one day the screen was all vertical lines and the half screen became white and the other half pink and i couldnt see anything. It did it from the beggining before even show the bios diagnostic. After a lot of tries and after i connected with external monitor i managed to fix it and the laptop booted normal with no problem (with and without the external monitor). I did a couple of restarts to make sure its ok but after 2-3 restarts i show in the screen some hotizontical green lines in some parts of the screen and it get only in the loading vista bar. After a restart it shows again vertical lines in all screen and it doesnt seems i can fix it this time. Has anyone any idea what causes it and how can i fix it? Also i have the same laptop (5920g) with same characteristics but seems motherboard is not working and i wonder if the problem is in graphics card if i can change it from the other laptop i have. Is there possible to change the card in 5920g laptop??? thanks a lot.

A:Acer 5920g graphics problem

The graphics chip on the motherboard could be damaged by heat. It also may be that the video cable from the LCD panel to the motherboard is damaged

A:slow startup on acer 5920G laptop

Hi,

Have you choosen what your computer starts up?
(Start >> Run >> Msconfig >> Startup and then deselect what you do not want to start up) but dont disable your firewall and Anti Virus.

Have you ran chkdsk
(Start >> Run >> cmd >> chkdsk if it comes up with convert lost chains press Y for yes)

Have you scanned for spyware, ad-aware and malware?
(I would use AVG Anti Spyware Plus Here is a quick link AVG ANTI SPYWARE PLUS

See if that makes any difference.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742, IntelCore i3-380M
I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Quick reply!!! Save your data and restore back to factory. Always have a back up image of your OS on a external drive for next time you have this problem!!

Hello, my new Acer Aspire Notebook has my IE homepage stuck to global.acer.com and I can't change it through any of the IE options (Use Blank, Use Current, or typing it in manually - I'm trying to set it to Google).

I went to this page to solve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159 (Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting).

As per Microsoft's instructions, I tried changing the "Start Page" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main," but I got the following error: "Cannot edit Start Page: Error writing the value's new contents." There was no "Default_Page_URL" entry in there.

I was able to change the "Default_Page_URL" value to "Google.com" under "HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" and the "Start Page" value in there was already set to "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home"

The "Default_Page_URL" and "Start Page" entries don't exist in the "HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" key.

Lastly, the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel" subkey doesn't exist either.

I would appreciate any help you could give me, thanks!

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!
Regards Brett.

So at first i thought it my keyboard wasn't being seen by windows 10. but sometimes after holding the bluetooth button an unknown device appears that appears to be my keyboard. yet when i type in the connection code it doesn't respond and then the device no longer is showing. It could just be another bluetooth device though; i live in a dorm so there's many other people with bluetooth devices in the area. I checked out this: https://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30072/~/how-to-pair-the-acer-bluetooth-keyboar... but it only applies to 8 and 8.1, not 10. Perhaps acer should release a driver update for windows 10 early adopters that fixes their keyboard to work with windows 10, unless there is a simple bug fix? I looked online but i seem to be the only one with this issue so far, possibly due to the newness of 10. Edit: found this post, which weirdly didn't show up previously: http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-10/Bluetooth-not-working-after-installing-Windows-10-on-Aspire-... trying to update my drivers again to confirm this isn't an issue. edit 2: nope it added a connected devices section to replace the bluetooth section, but otherwise didn't solve the problem yet. edit 3: so after like 2 hours i finally realized what was the issue. In order for it to be discoverable you need to make sure to first install the new windows 10 specific bluetooth driver mentioned in the above post , then use the REPAIR option in the blu... Is this normal for a 6 month old machine..? I can't update windows 10.
