Icon's sizes randomly change back to details sizes in random folders

Q: Icon's sizes randomly change back to details sizes in random folders

Hello again

unfortunately the issue i going to ask help with is the total same issue that i had last year

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

may also be relate to the issue that this user had

Shortcut icons re-sizing randomly

My OS had gone crazy and change icon's sizes back to details sizes in random folders, last time i had that issue i thought it was solved by this method

Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder

But unfortunately it only was temporary, i had to format anyway so the problem was solved after the format and never appeared again till 3 days ago.

it not seem to be a virus but it really annoy, the only thing i done 3 days ago that was extraordinary for me was to edit some video on windows live movie maker + cccp codecs, i rarely use WLMM but happened to use it 3 days ago, and after that the issue reappear, i can't use system restore since i done alot of stuff on my pc and don't want to lose them, and also i don't happened to made restore point before the day the issue occurred and the rest are deleted..so SR is not a option.

anyone know what i can do now?

thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No guarantees these suggestions will work but you could give it a try. See if rebuilding the icon cache helps.

You could also try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two) just in case your system fils got damaged or corrupted somehow. If problems are found, run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

hi there

as the title said i have really weird issue here...

the story goes like that...

i have a folder named "Desktop's icons that not in used" since old XP, i used to add all the icons of the progrems that i don't used (and use) often to it so i will find them right away when i need them, even when i format my pc and i backup stuff i also take this folder with me , put it again on the new OS and add each icon to it again when i reinstall it progrem. anyway long story short (and i think it will be right to add Weird xD) when i enter to this folder which i used to put on medium icons all this years it randomly change back to details sizes... mostly when i close other folder that have details sizes before i enter to this one.. but not allways, the windows keep remeber the icons's sizes and even the windows position and size in other folders ...so why only this folder just suddenly stop to remeber it own icon's size? is it corruption registry or something of sort?

i also tried to make a new folder with the same name, cut paste all of the icons into it and the issue still occur, and tried to disable some option that let the system choose what to change in my system's view (from look to performance) if it have hard time to display anything (which is hard for me to believe because i have I7 and Geforce 295 gtx..) and the issue still persist...

i know it just one weird and idiotic issue to make fuss about.. but i want to know if something is wrong with my sy... Read more

Hi Guys

I have 8 hard drives, plus DVD and USB and I run at 1600x1200 on a 21" monitor. In Explorer I want to be able to see and differentiate drives at a glance. I can assign new icons but frustratingly I cannot change the size. I would like to make the drive icons one size bigger - does anyone know if this can be done?

It doesn't matter what website I go to, I will sometimes get changes in my font sizes at random times (there are times when it stays normal size too on the same sites). It seems to occur the most when I'm browsing on Newegg's site (it looks like my DPI is increasing, but I never changed it).

So does anyone have any idea of what I can do to stop the increase in Font (DPI) size?

You're not accidently holding ctrl and scrolling are you? This changes the font on websites.

When Media Player is in "Library" view, more specifically, when the view is set to "Icon", it displays as an icon the album art of an album, with the "Album Name" and "Album Artist" underneath as titles:

Media Player Library View
The icon is at a default size of 96x96 pixels.

What I want to know is (even if a registry edit is required), can the size of the Icon be changed to maybe 128x128 or larger? I ask this because if you look at the above screenshot, you'll see that sometimes if the album name is relatively long ("101 Love Songs 2008 (Disc 1)" and "1492: Conquest of Paradise" for example), then the text will be wrapped, and the "Album Artist" part of the icon titles is not displayed.

It is my hope that by increasing the size of the icon, there will be more room available to display the "Album Name" without pushing off the "Album Artist".

Also related, how do I force WMP to totally ignore my pictures? It doesn't make sense to have pictures in a media library...

A:How do I change Windows Media Player Library View Icon Sizes?

Hi Peter !

I dont have any answer for your first question . Actually I am also searching for it

But there may be a way to remove all the pictures from WMP library. Right click on the picture tab in the left navigation pane, select customize navigation pane, and uncheck picture there . Now click ok .

No more pictures are there

You may see the snips . Snip 1 : Right click and Customize navigation pane
Snip 2 : Uncheck pictures . Be careful ... at first click, it will remove the square, but check all boxes under pictures. you need to have a second click
Snip 3: Nevigate to some other library, and there is no pictures at all

In another thread I wrote about how I managed to wipe out my hard drive while using a disk utility that told me my partition sizes were reported incorrectly. (Screen shot below)

I told the program to go ahead and "correct the error" which immediately killed everything. I did manage to recover my data partition and then did a fresh reinstall of Windows. However, I still get that "error message." It's not just Partition Doctor that reports it, Partition Master 8 also gives the same error.

So the question of the day is, why am I getting this error?

Next question is about changing partition sizes. I've used Partition Master for years to resize partitions but now not only am I getting these strange error messages but the software reports that it isn't compatible with Win 7. So what can I use to resize partitions. Symantec has no new versions of Partition Master.

I have C: and E: on one drive. C: is too big and E: is too small. In the past, I would have used Partiton Master to take the extra space from C: and give it to E: but can't do that now. Windows Disk Management tool will shrink C: but not give the space to E:

So the second question is, "What can I use to fiddle with my partition sizes without having to back up E:, delete it, resize C: and then recreate E: at the new size?

A:Partition sizes: Misreported and changing sizes (two separate issues)

Personally, I'd recommend Partition Wizard as it is far more flexible and functional than Windows 7's disk management utility.

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

You need to download the PW ISO and burn it to a blank disc then boot into it to partition your hard drive.

When you're done just boot back into Windows.

Hi. I am currently with a problem in windows7 Professional about the size of icons.

For example, I get to the My Documents folder and put the icons in size Small, then I go into a sub-folder within the My Documents folder and put the icons in size Large. When I did that last action, Windows automatically changes My Documents folder icon size to Large and I don't want that, basically what I wanted was that Windows saves the definitions for the size of icons in different folders, which it does not.

To overcome this problem have been suggested ShellFolderFix, I tried it but what it does is saving the size and position of the various windows.

Heres my OS: Win 7 HP 64bit incase its useful info

My desktop icons as well as my folder icons change size back to the default Medium size after I restart my computer, and the folder icons reset as well. If I set them to say... large and close the folder and reopen it, they will be back at the default setting.Even if I go back and forth in the folders the icons will not stay the same size I set them to.

Now here is what Ive done to try and fix my issue:

While in a folder if I change the size to say medium. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View and apply this to all folders. Than no matter what size I change them too afterwards will revert to this setting. Even though I want different size icons depending on what I'm looking at.

With that said, Ive also tried to restore the defaults, that did not work.

I have followed the Icon Rebuilding tut on this website, both the .bat and the manual ways.

I have ran the Windows repair all in one as well. Which made me do a file scan and check disk.

The only thing I haven't tried is a system restore. I have also heard of malware messing up this stuff and a mention of a root kit I think it was in a post about this same issue. Just a few days ago I got rid of(I think) one. The Google redirect or something it was called differently in Malwarebytes. I used tdsskiller to get rid of it but after running Malwarebytes in safe mode saw it was still there but got rid of it again.

I found under display settings the link for advances sizing of text and other items. In that window that comes up there are drop down lists to change font size for the following: titles bars, menus, message boxes, palette titles, icons and tool tips. I changed all that to 10. Which for now I think I'm comfortable with of those I readily see so far. However inside that window the text describing things above that is like an 8 or 9 font. I need to be able to change that. Also the font size on web pages in firefox is not the same from before doing the upgrade from windows 8.1 pro. That font is also several numbers lower than before. I'm used to text ranging from 10 to 12 in size. I need to be able to change the font sizes for much more things. I seem to recall in previous versions of windows the font size changing thing had a dozen or more items in the list to change. But I can't find that anywhere. Could someone direct me to where I can adjust font sizes for everything everywhere? Thanks.

My laptop has a drive C with 14 GB of space and a drive D with 18 GB of space. Drive C has Windows, all my software and my documents. Drive D is sort of an extra storage place that doesn't get changed if I restore my computer to its original configuration. With the size of programs these days my drive C is getting really crowded, whereas all the backup files and pictures that I store on drive D only take 4 GB.

I want to figure out if I can take 8 or 10 GB from drive D to make my drive C a bit over 20 GB. I've searched "partinioning drives" to see if that's possible, and learned about compmgmt.msc. Before I go any further I'd like to ask you about my particular case and see if you would have at hand a link to learn how to do what I'm trying to do, and any tips you might find handy to share. I run XP SP3, and this is what I see when I open Disk Management from compmgmt.msc:

Unnamed drive : Partition : Basic : NTFS : Healthy (EISA Configuration) : 4.66 GB : 1 GB free. (I didn't know about that drive.)
Drive C : Partition : Basic : NTFS : Healthy (System) : 13.97 GB : 2.83 GB free.
Drive D : Partition : Basic : NTFS : Healthy : 18.62 GB : 14.83 GB free.

Further down it says that my disk 0 contains those 3 drives, the first 2 being primary partitions and drive D being an extended partition and a logical drive.

Thank you!

A:How to change drive sizes.

Firstly, that unnamed partition is in all probability your computer mfr's recovery partition. Most big box machines have that. Don't mess with it, you may need it one day.

Secondly, rather than re-partitioning your drive, consider the following.

In many cases, the C:\ partition starts getting full due to growth of the My documents folder. If this is the case for you, I suggest you consider moving the My Docs folder to the D:\ partition. This is quite simple to do. First , create a folder on the D:\ partition and label it My Documents. Then open Windows Explorer, find the original My Documents folder (not a shortcut) on the C:\ partition, right click it and select "Properties" (see attached thumbnail). Click the "Move" button, navigate to the D:\ partition and find the folder you created there. Select the folder and click OK. This change will move the actual location of your My Docs folder to the D:\ partition, but the change will be invisible to you in normal operations.

lastly, if the foregoing does not apply to your situation, I suggest Easeus Partition Master as an excellent tool for any partition adjustments. Free and easy to use. Check it out.

I tried finding a solution for my problem but I can't seem to find the exact answer for it. So here's the thing,

I am working with a PDF that contains pages with different sizes, one size with A4, one size with A3 and one size with "Letter" which I do not need. Now I want to resize all the "Letter" into A4.

Now my question is:

-How can I select a specific page with a specific size? (because I am working with thousands of pages here)
-How can I change all of the selected page in one go?
-Do I need to other programs for it? If so, what programs?

Thank you good sirs!

P.S. Our printer can only print at A4 and A3 sizes, so if ever I selected the "Choose paper source according to page size" it won't work and printing will stop if it starts and try to print a page size containing "Letter".

I've found that all my drives (SSDs and spinners) are set to 512 bytes/sector. My understanding is that 4k sectors would be a bit more efficient. I'd like to change my drives from 512 to 4k.

If I format a new drive to 4k, then I cannot clone an old 512 drive to the 4k.

If I use a new, 4k formatted drive, I =could= manually copy my data files from the 512 to the 4k, right?

The issue would seem to be the OS drive. I really, really, really don't want to reinstall the OS. (Really.) I've got too many programs to reinstall.

My system uses an SSD as the OS drive and a 1Tb WD spinner as the data drive.

How can I swap to 4k sectors?

Hello all! Sorry if this is not the right forum for this. I was copying a bunch of songs to a memorex 700mb 80 minute cd-rw disk. I was copying 24 songs. The file they were in said they were a total of 118 mb. When I added them to the disk using roxio easy cd creator, I got an error that there was 713 or so mb trying to be copied. I deleted one song and the size was reduced to 683 mb and is copying now. These are mp3's. Does the files size increase when copying? Was I supposed to format the disk first? I have never heard of this happening before. It does not seem right. Did I miss a step or obviously something major???????? :-( Thanks! Mike.

A:Do mp3 file sizes change when copied?

Roxio was probably thinking that you wanted to make an audio CD, so it was converting the songs into WAV format, so you can play them in a CD player. You have to make a Data CD to copy them as mp3's, otherwise it will think you want to make an AUdio CD.

A:How Can I get Explorer to Show Folder Sizes for Multiple Folders?

Truth be told, I've never used or even SEEN a program that would do this, though I'm sure there must be at least ONE available.

In the meantime, you can open Windows Explorer and RIGHT-click a folder, then choose "Properties", and it will tell you what you need to know; how many files in the folder, how many FOLDERS in the folder, how much room they occupy on the HDD, and so on.

Good luck - HTH

Now and again, when I switch my computer on first thing in the morning, my desktop comes on with huge icons. Its a bit annoying but I've found that if I just leave things alone, the next day my desktop is back to normal. (I presume its something to do with Microsoft updating or something). This time, its been three days and my desktop still has the large icons, although by going into display we've managed to change them from huge to just large, although in saying that they are still twice the normal size.

The problem is, this time everything is huge - word, emails, internet; the lot, and its very difficult to read things or work online. I have to keep sliding the bar across the bottom of the screen to be able to see whats on the right hand side of the screen. Very frustrating.

It seems that this has been occurring since I bought Windows 7 about three/four years ago but I can't swear to it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to return things back to normal?

I'm having a very bizarre issue on a laptop running Windows 7. Windows explorer is showing all items as the wrong size, it's as if the math is off by a few 0s. For example an outlook file is showing up a 548 GB which clearly isn't possible. I looked up the
file on another computer and it was actually 5.48 GB. Every file on the computer shows up that way. It also doesn't matter if I'm looking at a file on the local drive or on a mapped drive, it still shows the incorrect value. I've never run into something like
this before and haven't had much luck finding anything on Google either. Has anyone seen something like this before or have an idea for how to change the math behind explorer? If that is even what needs to be changed.

As an extra note, kind of funny but even the transfer rate is buggered up, the laptop is transferring files from a mapped drive at a miraculous 522 MB/s, sure do wish my computer could move that fast.

I'd prefer to have details for all folders.
It looks like I found a solution for the annoying auto changing of folder types:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;This registry script has been made by Vishal Gupta - AskVG.com

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]

But I also want the view to stay details even if I change it in explorer's view menu to look at something. In this case currently the setting is immediately saved somewhere and next time I get that view. I want it to show details the next time I visit it...

(I have also disabled thumbs.db and desktop.ini via registry settings.)

yeah there are different sizes, usually the width is always really similar in size, its the length that changes mostly once you get above 600watts, sometimes lower if its a fanless psu.

This is going to sound like a dumb question for some of you but I'll ask it anyway. How do you measure a fan, is it diagonal or on one side, and is it outside edge or screw holes? I just ordered a processor fan and I got the wrong size even though I thought I had measured.

Thanks for your help!!

A:Fan sizes

I believe it is from the middle of the screw hole to the adjacent screw hole. Not diagonally across the fan.

Hi All,

I use Details View on Windows Explorer.
And i want to increase the icons' size without changing to any other view (keep using Details view).

Is there any way to do this?

A:How to Change Icon Size of Details View on Windows 7

not possible I'm afraid, trying to size up the icons will put you in list mode, then small icons etc

Hi all! I know this may seem dumb, but I really don't know the answer. I went to Macrium's website to download the Free Version's files for offline installation, and noticed that Macrium's zip files of WinPE version 3.1 is about 140 MB, while the Microsoft page for that same update is 1.7 GB.Why the disparity in size?  Does Macrium provide all I need?  Would it be better to go and grab the PE files straight from MS? Thanks!

I am about to purchase a SHM-165H6S Lite-On DVD burner and I noticed that it is referred to as a "half height" burner. Does anyone know if this burner will fit in a standard bay on a antec tower? I can't find anything that answers this.

Hey everyone,

I'd like to ask you about my RAM - I've got 6gb at the moment, 2x2gb and 2x1gb. They're both Corsair somethings, matched latencies and xx-x-xx numbers. I thought I might as well just stick them all in there, more RAM the better?

Will that mis-matches in size cause any kind of performance issues? The system seems to run alright, but I've never tried it with just the 2x2's...

Would the system fill the 2x2 4gb, then spill over if it needed it onto the 2x1 pair? Or will it be spreading out over all the chips?
Huuuum.... any info is greatly appreciated.

(It was looking at an old 3D mark score which made me think of it, here's the read out from there)

Module 1 2047 MB
Module 2 1024 MB
Module 3 2047 MB
Module 4 1024 MB

I'm renting some webspace to host my website. I regularly notice that this space fills up and reaches the maximum quota.

What I am looking for is some kind of utility that will give me the size of all my directories on the webserver, including their subdirectories. Under windows, I have found dozens of utilities that can do this. What I need is one that can show me the size of the directries using FTP, as this is the only possibility I have to access the webserver
