I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forum!

You need to enter in the BIOS by pressing F1 when booting. Then under the "Security" menu follow these options:

Then press F10 to save and reboot.

I hope this instructions help.

Hello, I bought a used lenovo ThinkPad E550 and i am havin some trouble with it. I have been calling Absolute software for the past week or so, and they tweaked a few settings right now, but i am still unable to get rid of computrace. Basically, their process rpcnetp.exe starts when i boot the laptop, it then spawns rpcnet.exe  and closes itself. After a while rpcnet.exe exists as well, and i don't get it until the next reboot. They confirmed that they have ran pretty much everything they can to remvoe this and redirected me to the manufacturers site. So far i have upgraded the bios to the latest version, and i have also reinstalled a new operating system . Same process happens no matter if it's Win 10 or Win 7.  The bios option for computrace still shows as Enabled and Activated. Is there anything i can do to get this fully disabled / removed ? Regards,Andrei

A:Thinkpad computrace unable to remove

Has the original owner contacted Absolute Software?  As far as I can tell, Absolute's policy has changed.  I deal with them occasionally, as I deal with lots of used machines.  In the past, I contacted them and sent them proof of purchase.  They would contact the original owner to confirm it wasn't stolen.  If they hear back that it's OK, they would remove the agent.  If they didn't get a response in 30 days, they would try again.  If still no response and the license has expired, they would remove the agent after trying to sell me a subscription.

Now, even if the license has expired and the original owner has gone out of business, they won't remove the agent without hearing back from the original owner, even if the original owner doesn't exist.

i've got a T440s that was upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. after installing a new brother printer yesterday, the machine won't boot any more; it just goes directly to automatic repair, then diagnostics, neither of which help. i tried several system restore points, but sr always fails telling me it can't copy the registry. i ran the lenovo hardware diagnostics which fails in the targeted read test of the hard drive with bad sectors. i am backing up all the data (which is on the solid-state drive ?) manually from the cli prompt (that still works) before i do anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors tool). i'm wondering if the bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then will "fixing" the bad sectors destroy the registry to the point where i need to do a refresh. this is the first time i've dealt with a system with a hybrid drive (ssd for start-up & os, hd for storage. since it was originally a windows 8.1 machine will running the refresh put back windows 10, and if so, will it know where to write the refreshed os files to the ssd and hd? all suggestions appreciated.

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hi you guys!I would like to excuse my bad English in advance. This happened like three days ago. Regular reboot. No forced updates or any installation, just an ordinary reboot. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't work my ass out of the boot screen. It doesn't go in to loop either, just standing there, acting like a d*ck. I've tried ALL F-buttons but none has worked at all. But if I FN-lock them, I can change the brightness and that kind of stuff - SO, it's responding, but nothing more nothing less. And because I can't choose different boot, neither go into BIOS, I feel kinda f-ed (did my motherboard actually brick it self?!)Tried so far: BIOS battery, int+ext batterypack, w/ and w/o AC adapter, disconnected the harddrive, disconnected the RAM. And you know what? The same screen. ALL of the times.Any suggestions? Try to recover bad sectors (if any) in another computer? I would love to have USB>S-ATA right now, but I'm going to use it ONCE, so that's out of question.Kthxbye, love <888

I have recently purchased a 29" ultrawide LG monitor, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When I plug it in, it recommends a 2560x1080 screen resolution. I was disappointed as the display settings on my thinkpad only go up to a 1960x1080 resolution.  Is there any way to achieve the correct resolution? I am currently connecting to the monitor using the dual DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.  I am wondering if there is a driver update that will support this, or a change in connection method? Thank you To update:  I am now connected via an HDMI/Display port cable instead of the DVI cable. This has not given me the option to increase my screen resolution in my display settings.

FYI - After much research and consultation I have fixed it. Turns out I needed to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver to the latest version which supports a 2560x1080 resolution. I also purchased the HDMI/Display port cable which didn't solve the problem but probably helps with quality.

Hey all, Recently I've been having problems with my T440s ThinkPad not turning on. The first time this happened, I took out the internal battery and it worked! But then it randomly shut off while using it again and it hasn't turned on since. I purchased a new internal battery in hopes of that being the issue and it just arrived today but I still get nothing when trying to power on. I'll run through what I have tried unplugging and plugging back in the internal batteryholding the power button for 60 seconds to discharge itpressing the emergency reset buttonremoving the RAM and placing the RAM back I have done all of these things multiple times except I only reinserted the RAM once. Oddly enough, when the internal battery is unplugged and I plug the AC adpater into the machine, the power LED flashes 3 times. I've searched for this possible LED error "code" and found nothing.  I am desperate for help, I am entering my senior year and as a computer science major it is necessary for me to have a laptop for most of my classes.  Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Hey, Just a got a brand new Thinkpad 540-E. So far this CPU runs like a beast(with a new SSD installed). I have one minor issue though... GOAL:: Make the F1-F12 keys function without having to press Fn first. So I've tried the three tips I've come across online. Here is what happens: 1. BIOS(ThinkpadSetup): I only get the option to switch the Fn and Ctrl key. There are no option in my BIOS to do anything else with the keyboard/mouse settings. 2. Holding down the Fn key for 30 sec to 1 minute: Nothing happens. I even tried to do a three minute press and hold. I had a blast, but nothing came out of that neither. 3. Entering the keyboard settings in Win 7 manually: So I have no trouble entering the keyboard settings window, but mine looks extreemly limited. I don't see any options looking similar to what I see suggested on this forum.  In fact I see no options to do anything in there besides updating the driver. I hope you guys can help me out! Thanks a lot:-)

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... Hello, I am trying to disable touchpad on X260. It looks disabled, however one feature keeps enabled. Here is how to reproduce it: 1. Start marking text using TrackPoint and  the left TrackPoint button. Do not release the button.2. While doing this touch the touchpad with two fingers.3. Remove finger from the button.4. Observe the text is still marking with TrackPoint movement. Another way: 1. Click on something which is draggable with the left TrackPoint button. Do not release the button.2. Tap on TouchPad with two fingers.3. Release the button.4. Observe further dragging just with just moving the pointer. It appears that dragging/marking becomes sticky with two-finger tapping though TouchPad is disabled. The desired behaviour is to ignore TouchPad taps (since it's disabled). So, how do I fully disable TouchPad?

A:Disable Volume Rocker on the side of Thinkpad Yoga...

I have the Yoga X1, and I have the same problem.  I keep mine verticle in a sleeve in my backpack, but these buttons are on the opposite side of the power port, so they face down and frequently get pressed due to gravity, which wakes the computer, which then runs down the battery and super heats up the unit while not being used in my backpack.  They also seem to somehow start the music player.  Anyway, there must be a registry key to disable them if Lenovo didn't have the foresight to put in an option to control/reprogram them.  Hopefully somebody knowledgible will respond.

Hi mpyrol,
We are not going to help you disable Computrace for obvious reasons. You need to contact the seller for help with that. If they are an established company, they should be willing to do so without any reluctance.
Since your primary question is about reinstalling the operating system, I'm going to move you message to the Microsoft OS forum for further help.

Why do you want to hate Dell? They didn't enable the program, you did. Computrace is designed to not allow easy removal for the obvious reasons. Even if parts are removed, the program is self-healing, and will resist most attempts. You need to contact the Computrace to see if they will help you. Also do a web search. You may find some info on removal. If you look in the BIOS, you will see that once enabled, it can not be disabled in the BIOS.Message Edited by KirkD on 10-27-2008 02:09 PM
