Q: windows index score help

I just built my first system and when I first turned it on everything was great I had a windows index score of 5.9 for everything but then I relized that I put the hd4870 in the 4x slot instead of 16x so I reinstalled it in the 16x slot and the aero and gaming graphics scores went down to 1.0 and said I have new hardware and to refresh my score, but when I click refresh or update score it switches to basic mode and does the test and then it stays at 1.0 Please Help!

Preferred Solution: windows index score help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About a week ago I brought my Dell Inspiron 530s to Geek Squad to get a new hardrive because my old one was failing and when I got the computer back the screen appeared to be a little blurry. So I looked into my index score and my "Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics" have a score of 1.0 while all the rest of the scores are normal. Why is this happening?

Also when I check my device manager and I look at my display adapters intel r g33 g31 express chipset family and it has a exclamation mark with a yellow around it. What's that supposed to mean?

Hello all,
I just installed Windows 7 (build 7022) and my friend told me about this forum. So i had a look and this forum became quite handy, but lets get to the point

Windows 7 has a kind of benchmark of your system just like Vista. Of course I was wondering about what score my system would have on Windows 7. So I benchmarked and all scores were quite the same, except for my harddisk. on vista i had a score of 5.7 and on Windows 7 a score of 3.0, which I think is strange. Does someone know what the problem is.

So my base score is 5.1 - the score comes from Graphics. I'm wondering why its so low. My Gaming graphics is rated 6.2. I know I have a fairly good graphics card - Ati Radeon HD 5450 with 1GB ram.

What does this score of 5.1 mean? What kind of limitations might I have, where does that score come from, and is it possible to improve?

So earlier my computer crashed and instantly went to blue screen then when it rebooted it went into chkdsk and fixed all the problems etc..
Then I noticed it is stuck in Windows classic mode and will not go into Aero. I did some research and had to update my graphics card driver but nothing. Then I looked at my WPI and realized they were unrated.
When I click "Rate This Computer" nothing happens.
I have tried many things to try and fix this issue including going into command prompt and typing in winsat formal but I get "Unsupported 16-bit Application The program or feature \C:\Windows\System32\WinSat.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of windows."
I've also noticed the system is running slower than normal and some basic programs aren't working and some .DLL errors.
I think I may have to do fresh install of Windows 7 but don't feel like doing that. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

I am getting a 3.0 for this index. I have a RAID 1 (dual 320 GB 7200RPM 16MB cache Segate drive's) setup. I saw a post about disabling write-caching and re-running. When I do I get a score of 5.8. Is this a real score with it on? Write-cache is supposed to improve performance, why would it lower my score unless it is a flaw in the test. Not a major concern, but I thought I might ask for so input from people mote in the know.

So, for the past few days my pc has been running slower compared to normal and I've had no ideia why. Today, I went into Performance Information and Tools and, to my surprise, it said new hardware had been detected (I have never changed my pc's hardware) and that I should run the Windows Experience Index evaluation again (something I sometimes do and that has kept the same scores ever since buying the pc). To my surprise, my RAM score fell from the previous score of 7.3 to 5.5!

Does anyone know what might be behind this? I suppose whatever is causing this is also the reason my pc has been slower lately.

A:windows experience index lowered graphic score but have same gpu?

The Windows Experience Index doesn't mean very much. There have been cases where the numbers differ on identical systems. The exact method used to calculate the numbers has never been documented.

The CPU speed shown in the control panel is the nominal speed rating read from the CPU itself. This cannot be changed and has nothing to do with the actual clock rate of the CPU. With most modern CPUs the actual clock rate will vary according to need.

Do you know that there are extremely few people worldwide having achieved the perfect 7.9 Windows Experience Index score in Windows 7?

Well, Microsoft does. But if fact, it is possible to build a monster machine capable of reaching the top WEI score of 7.9 in Windows 7 RTM.

According to the Redmond company, putting together a hardware combination to hit 7.9 in Windows 7 becomes more and more feasible, especially as computer components evolve and get cheaper.

?As of July 2010, few people own 7.9-ranked computers. There are only a handful listed on WEI Share, awebsite where people compare their index scores,? the Redmond company noted.

?But it?s a goal that will grow more attainable as more advanced computer components become the norm.?

The software giant is essentially lending a helping hand to power PC users that are simply not content with anything inferior to the perfect WEI 7.9 score.

The chase for the Windows 7 7.9 WEI score began in early January 2010, just after Microsoft released the first Beta development milestone of Windows Vista?s successor.

Hi, I have a SSD and a HDD. What happened today is that I changed the SATA ports my SSD and HDD were plugged into.

P67A-GD65 SATA Performance | bit-tech.net

Basically I plugged my drives into the Marvel controller on my mobo by mistake as my manual did not say which port was which. I only realised the performance difference after reading the above article (the Intel P67 ports are faster on my mobo). So i open up my pc and switch the ports they are plugged into. (i changed from sata7_8 to sata 1_2, both 6gbps)

HD Tune Pro does register some performance increase from changing the SATA ports. However, the WEI index now says my Hard Disk score is 5.9. It was before on 7.7.

I suspect it's reading the HDD as my primary hard disk? because there's no way my SSD is broken. it doesn't feel funny and HD Tune Pro sees no errors and some performance increase.

A:Windows Experience Index - Hard Drive score totally incorrect

Honestly, if the system is running fine, it isnt worth the effort it took to type in your entire post. WEI is not a benchmarking tool and shouldn't be treated as such. It is utterly and completely useless. I haven't cared about the my score the entire time Windows 7 has been out, but in Vista, I could occasionally get a different score just by refreshing the tool a few times. I'd completely ignore it.

HD Tune Pro is a better indication, and it is showing a difference, going by your post, so that's all you should worry about. I have a Gigabyte board nearly identical to yours, and considering the chipset bug, you should be using the first two ports...which you are now. They are unaffected.

My concern is with the CPU score, seems pretty low, according to other forums I should be getting around 5. Could it be because I am running 64-bit? I never installed any driver for the chipset/cpu, I'm just using whatever windows update got for me.

Hi Veryunhappy,

It depends on how much RAM you already have, and what the type and speed of your RAM is.

It can help increase the rating number for RAM, but this is limited to how fast the RAM is and how much RAM your computer actually uses.

There seems to be a major issue with everyones WEI score for some reason.

I am by no means a computer Guru, but I have been able to build and maintain my computers since early UNIX, and using the MILNET, anyone ever hear of that or use it?

I have several computers networked in my home both desktop and laptop. My primary computer is a intel quad core that I built from Frys parts.

It runs everything great. With a 24 inch monitor the only "big" game I play is Unreal Tournament, and it is blazing fast and looks great.

I produce movies, some HD, for local non profit groups in my spare time, and I have no problem doing that or sreaming video. Broadband with no internet surfing issues. All in all there is not anything that I would consider a performance problem with any part of my computer.

However all of my WEI scores are 7.1 or better except my graphics card, and it is rated at 3.1. There is nothing wrong with my graphic cards performance. Windows seems to think there is. You do not need a "score" to tell you that your graphics card is not performng well. Or that your audio could be better, or bigger and faster hard drives. It should be obvious when you try to do something that it struggles with.

I think everyone is getting over hyped with the WEI index. I have the same score on the same computer when it was running Vista. Now it is 7RC. And it is running better/faster than it was with Vista.

IMHO I think the WEI was just invented to make us waste mo... Read more

Hi JamesT.......

the explanation is the system defaulted ALL sticks to 667mhz with tighter timings with the mixed DIMMs, when you changed the 667 sticks to 800s the timings were loosened.

so your RAM was faster with the lower frequency (according to the WEI)

I'm currently running Vista SP1 (32-bit) on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop which I bought in May 2008. The hard drive has crashed twice and been replaced twice (that's not what I'm coming to ask about, but it could be relevant). My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. Between that and 4 GB RAM, I can run most new games at nearly-maximum performance, including Fallout 3 and Dawn of War 2; I have a very graphically capable computer.

I have checked my Windows Experience Index score several times since my purchase (though not since the most recent hard drive crash in november), and all of my scores have been above 5.0. Today, I checked again and found that my Graphics and Gaming Graphics scores were very, very low: 2.5 and 3.6 respectively. All of my other scores are still above 5.0.

I checked the specifics, and it tells me

Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Total available graphics memory 1791 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 256 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 1535 MB
Display adapter driver version 7.15.11.7644
Primary monitor resolution 1920x1200
DirectX version DirectX 10

According to light research, these numbers all seem to be quite good. So why is my score so low? And more importantly, why did it drop?

I've set up Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) on an older computer and everything seems to have installed and set up fine. However, having attempted to rate the computer in Windows Experience Index, the graphics tests take an absolute age, and give me results of

Aero Desktop = 1.0
Gaming Graphics = 2.0

I know the kit I'm working on isn't anything like cutting edge, but I believe that the scores should be higher than this, especially as the ancient Pentium 4 (Northwood) posts a score 3.5, and the RAM scored 4.5.

Specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 Northwood, 2.53GHz, 533 FSB
2GB DDR RAM (PC-2700)
Samsung spinpoint ATA-133 (250Gb)
MSI 6533dx motherboard (SiS 645Dx chipset)
Gfx: Ati Radeon 2400HD AGP card.

As far as I can see, all drivers are up to date. The graphics drivers are reported as Microsoft WDDM 1.1, the screen works at native resolution and Aero flip etc seem to work.

I'm puzzled...

A:WEI Score 1.0 in Windows 7 Ultimate

The majority of the WEI rating is based mostly on your Graphics card, then bit version (32 Bit vs 64) then the amount of RAM. Since you are using an older AGP card, as opposed to PCI express with substantial Video RAM, , this brings your score way down. You also have a lower score because you are using 32 Bit Windows and do not have a 64 bit. processor.

I really cant understand why my hd got such a low mark, its 500gb and its partioned into 4 segments, this is the hd i have
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...odid=HD-081-SA

It does state that it can hold data up to 1TB to but it actually only allows 500gb, any ideas to why it would get such a low score?

This is a normal score for a spinning disk. For anything better you need either a Raid setup with 15.000RPM spinning disks or an SSD. It is the access time and the data transfer rate that determines the rating, not the capacity. Here is a performance comparison of a spinning disk and an SSD. Watch especially the difference in access time.

I'm running Vista Business in VirtualPC for a class at my college. Now, they've given me this assignment and I'm on the very last part -- I need to take a snapshot of the Experience Score.

Currently there's no Experience Index established. So, I click "Rate this computer" and it starts to do so. However, it doesn't finish, showing this in a dialog box:

Quote:

Cannot complete assessment.

The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is
due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other
component.

VPC uses virtual hardware -- which includes RAM, and its own drivers for everything, right? So, logically, it should be able to rate itself based on its own stuff... I've done nothing else to the installation aside from what's stated in my assignment instructions. I just want to finish this assignment. What can I do?

Sorry if I'm sounding kinda ticked off...

:(

A:Windows Experience Score in VPC

Never mind. I figured it out.

Fixed the problem by installing the VPC additions and adjusting the effects for best appearance.

Kinda sucks to realize -- at the end of the Term -- that my virtual machine didn't need to be running so sluggishly that entire time.

Wish my instructor could have mentioned something about that when it mattered.

My 4890 is only getting a 6.0 score in CCC when it was previously getting a 7.7 before the new 9.11 driver install. Also when I change the memory clock in CCC and click apply the screen flashes, then if I go to youtube and play a video the screen flashes again. This happens only with the memory clock and does the same thing when I overclock or underclock it.

A:4890 Windows 7 Score

mine too.. previous 9.10 i did have with my 4870 7.5 points and now with 9.11 only 6.7 points..

alltough game performance has increased (gta iv shows 10fps more then before)
and vantage performance points are still the same (p9360)

Hello everyone

I have been having issues with my Laptop lately and the other day my SSD Windows Experience Score was 7.1... today it is only 5.9 and googling around this is usual for a spinner.

I have run the Lenovo system check and everything passes.

I have installed 12GB of Ram but I often have to remove 2 x 2GB sticks as it reads I have only 6GB in both the Bios and Windows info.

I have been having Kernel-Power (41) 63 for a few weeks when rendering it just shuts down and tries to restart sometimes stuck in a loop as it appears to me to be a heat issue maybe. I have monitored both the CPU and GPU temps and nothing really out of the ordinary...

So some of your insights or further checks I should make would be welcome
Thanks

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You might use cpu-z and post the Mainboard section with a screen shot,
CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID

All mother boards have restriction for how much ram per slot it can handle possibly you went over ?
My Acer has a 2gb per slot limit so I can only use 4x2gb = 8gb's of ram as an example.

Did you clean install onto the new ssd ?
You might be out of align but you can try Free mini tool and align all partitions by selecting the disk or select each partition or a single partition and just align it

I just built a new system over the weekend. Here are some of the specs:

- MSI X58M Socket 1366 X58 mATX Motherboard
- Intel I7 920 processor
- 12 GB DDR3 Ram
- 500 GB SATA HDD
- GeForce 9500 GT 1024MB DDR2 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card

All of my Windows Experience Subscores are 5.9, with the exception of Graphics. It is a 4.1. This seems quite low to me. I know that the 9500 isn't a top of the line card, but it seems like it should be better than a 4.1. Could there be something else going on that is hurting my score?

A:Low Windows Experience score....

nope, in my opinion the gt series is average for a gaming computer now days. GTX's are the new thing from nvidia. ...... Just my opinion.

Hi, all
My windows experience base score for my pc is 4.3; the 4.3 coming from my graphics card, an Inno3D 7600 GS with the latest drivers from nVidia.
Everything working fine, gameplay acceptable etc.

What's puzzling me is that if I use Vista's own windows drivers, that score goes up to 4.6.......but gameplay is unacceptable.
That just does not make sense.

Anyone got any ideas on this.
I know it's not a problem, but it's annoying me.
Cheers!

Hi,

have you updated your Inno Driver?
