Q: Yoga C930 Initial thoughts

Lenovo Yoga C930 Impressions: Configuration Details ? 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8550U Processor? Windows 10 Home 64 - Upgraded to Pro? 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) with Dolby Vision? 12GB DDR4 2400MHz? Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 62? Iron Gray? Fingerprint Reader? Rotating Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos Speaker System? 256GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVME M.2 Since this is a replacement for the Yoga 920 I?ll use it in my comparison. I did have a Yoga 920 for several months.. The 12GB of RAM is an odd configuration but it is a nice in-between 8 and 16. I wish more manufacturers would offer this. I ordered from Best Buy and I paid $1299 for it. Ordering the exact same configuration direct from Lenovo would have been $1625. Not sure the reason for the massive price difference... I got the Iron Gray this time but I usually opt for silver (mica for the C930). It does attract fingerprints and smudges but for some reason it?s not as bad as I remember the Lenovo black being. I didn;t dig the light colored KB kets on the mica color so that was my main reason for going with the Iron Gray this time. So quick impressions: Screen Wow! For a 1080p screen this thing is fabulous. Brightness is improved over what i remember my 920 having but it still is not extremely bright. Speed It?s fast and snappy. I see no issues whatsoever and it?s on par with similarly equipped machines, as expected. The SSD is pretty fast. See screenshot in photos section. Sound Another wow! The sound bar is incredible. Dare I say this is hands down the best sounding computer I have ever used. It?s loud, crisp and clear. Ports There are 2 USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support, 1 USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, and a headphone jack. The pen docks into a rear slot that also charges it. Missing is a SD card reader which is a slight bummer.. Battery Only had it a day and a half, hard to tell. I?ll repost back later after extended use. Fan I have not really pushed the machine yet but it did heat up and the fans did kick in during Windows updates. The heat was not bad and the fan, while you can hear it, was not jet engine loud.. Keyboard Typical Lenovo KB and it?s fantastic. Not as good as say the X1C but a very nice keyboard. Backlighting is there as well and it?s activated in traditional Lenovo style. The keys are a bit on the clicky side sound wise but nowhere near the MacBook sound. TrackPad The trackpad is responsive and accurate. I?ve not experienced any abnormal behaviour from it and it?s been smooth and accurate. Other The camera has a privacy shutter so you can block the camera. No more sticky notes or tape for those concerned with camera privacy. It has a fingerprint reader and so far no issues with it. It comes with the pen but I doubt I will use it much. The pen docks in the rear of the machine and charges when it?s docked. Photos

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just wanted to post my initial thoughts on the new Spectre x360 13.3 inch convertible. The short answer is that I love it. I've got a couple of nits but trying to work them out. I moved over from a MacBook Air 2012 model and was really worried about the keyboard. While I'm a long time PC person, I tried a MBA 4 years ago and fell in love with it. I've got an Ultrabook from another supplier and it will not run over about 4 hours without going dead. The keyboard on the Spectre is really sweet and easy to type on. I find that I have to hold my hands up a little but keyspacing is excellent and I never really hit the wrong key. The touch pad is way too sensitive and can be a pain. I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust it but you have to touch the pad with just barely your fingertips. Any touch at all will cause you to do whatever is under the cursor. I'm hoping that I can get that adjusted. Battery life appears to be phenominal and I can't tell you how long the battery will last as so far it's never been below 50-60%. With every windows pc I've ever had, it's like having an iPhone you're constantly looking for a power plug. The other grip I have is the touch screen. If you're holding the computer, as a right handed person I grab it by the left hinged area and your thumb just naturally touches the screen, which causes the Windows menu to pop up and you have to hit the escape button to clear it. I'm getting better at not touching the screen but it would be... Read more

I bought my ThinkPad X1 Yoga for around $1600 CAD with 2 years on-site warranty. The Yoga C930 is usually around the same price or more expensive, but the yogadays promotion right now made the base model $200 cheaper even with 2 years on-site warranty. Would you guys say that at $200 cheaper, the Yoga C930 is worth it? It has dual fans and a bigger battery, those seem to be the main advantages.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga c930 last week and it got delivered today. I have been experiencing issues with the sleep and power options. As soon as I click the button to eject the pen, the laptop goes into sleep mode where I have to sign in again. The situation gets worse because sometimes the laptop would shut down randomly when the pen is ejected out or it is inserted back into the laptop. Does anyone have a solution for this issue or anyone faced a similar issue? I have checked the power options and I have set the power and sleep option as never.

Hi all, I ended up exchanging my C930 because of this and the new unit came with a Western Digital SSD, which is either slow or faulty or windows defender is slowing things down for no apparent reason. Could C930 users post their crystalmark results here? The crystalmark utility is now available from windows apps.  Thank you!

Hello everyone! So after going back and forth which laptop i wanted i finally ended up getting a Yoga C930 which feels MUCH better compared to the 730 i had for about a day. The only concern i have for it right now is the fan noise is noticeable. I updated all of the drivers and did all of the windows updates, but it seems the fan is much more audible compared to the 730 i had. (I used the windows app and Driver Easy to do this) It's not entirely annoying but i do notice it. I also notice the laptop tends to get a bit warm. I know its only been a few hours but still its something i've noticed.  This is the exact one i purchased from Best Buy I've also noticed the Dolby Atmos Speaker System app apparently isn't compatible with my device? Also looking if anyone has recommendations on which usb c dongle to use so I can connect extra USB, display, and memory card reader? Some of the ones I?ve found on amazon don?t exclusively list if it works on the yoga c930

I have a brand-new Yoga C930 2-in-1 with a 1TB SSD and 16 GB RAM, which I'd like to run Ubuntu Linux on. I can't manage to boot from a USB (type A) pen drive yet, though. I managed to enter the BIOS (via this hint) and the "Boot from USB" option is "Enabled". When I exit the BIOS, though, saving the changes, having the USB pen drive plugged-in into the USB-A slot, Windows is booting up just normal. No USB boot happens, no boot menu is shown. Also, the usual pressing of buttons such as F2, F11, F12 or Del doesn't result in anything being shown from the BIOS. How do I boot from a USB drive then? Obviously, when there is a related option in the BIOS, it should be possible, shouldn't it?

I recently purchased the Yoga c930 to mainly draw on the go and do artwork in various apps and programs (mainly Photoshop, SketchBook, and Krita). However, this 2 in 1 is unable to download the wacom feel it driver ( I get a message saying that the wacom driver is not compatiable with the computer/tablet, which is wierd because the pen uses wacom aes technology) and I am having trouble with getting pressure sensitivity to work in almost everything I have tried to draw in. I even tried to change setting within the programs themselves, but the only one that really worked was Photoshop. Krita and Sketchbook still have no pressure sensitivity. There is also a Lenovo Pen Settings control panel for pressure sensitivity, but it does not really seem to make a difference in sensitivity when I change the settings there. Any suggestions as to how to get the pressure sensitivity to function properly on this computer would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to return the laptop and get the Yoga 720 13" becuase this computer is really nice otherwise, but I'm starting to think that may be the only option if I want to have a better drawing experience.

I have been having issues booting to usb (to install a fresh copy of windows enterprise. But i am unable to get it too boot off the usb( ive used the same usb stick to boot on other computers fine). It justg  ignores the usb stick and continues booting into windows on the ssd. id like to know if others here have had the same issue and what they did ti boot off a usb stick I used diskpart to create a primary partition in the usb and formatted with ntfs. In bios. Its set usb boot to enable .And ive turned off secure boot. Please help!

A:Yoga c930 unable to boot off USB

Hello and welcome,

If you're trying to boot in UEFI mode, your setup isn't correct.  I've never messed with enterprise before but to verify how it is installed (same as 10 non-enterprise) I just pulled down an eval ISO. Use a 64 bit ISO.

Use diskpart to configure your flash drive: select disk, clean, create partition primary, format fs=fat32 quick, assign.  Not NTFS, don't set it active.  Use your favorite archiving tool - the free 7zip or just Windows 10 Explorer - and extract the contents of the ISO to the flash drive.

BIOS can probably be at defaults.  Ssecure boot on or off doesn't matter.  Get to the boot menu (Fn + Power Button IIRC) and select the flash drive directly.  That should do it. Booted just fine on the first Lenovo laptop I tried.

[edit to add] Is this  a Yoga C930 or a Yoga Book C930?

Have a new Yoga C930 and the edges are sharp and cutting into my palms. Is this a defect or perhaps a design flaw? Using a palm rest/roll is not a solution. Can the edges be fixed or is there a type of case or cover that Lenovo can provide to cover the edges?

A:Yoga C930 sharp edges

I put a vinyl cover on my. On Amazon look for vinyl skins. They are about 30 bucks, but they come off with no sticky back and have prevented two serious scratches on my other computer, so I use it for protection. If you place it a little lower, the vinyl will cover the edges and it won't be so sharp. However, there is a hard shell cover from iPearl mCover again, on Amazon that I insist on purchasing for all of our computers. The problem is, the company doesn't release these for about 6 months after the new model comes out...So I wait patiently.I wasn't going to put a skin on my new C930 because I love the color and look, but I had to to protect the computer from that palm mark you get when using it.

Hello, I bought a lenovo yoga c930 laptop yesterday with a FHD screen (1920x1080p) and the first thing I noticed is that all images and videos seem to be a bit blurry and not sharp as would for a 1080p screen. I checked that the screen resolution is set to 1080p and I don't know what else to do, even logos on websites and normal small images you would normally pass by seem very annoying and disappointing to look at. I'm not sure how I'll even manage to watch videos on it (1080p videos definitely don't even look close to 1080).I hope there's something you can tell me to help with this as it is very upsetting where my 10 year old Toshiba laptop that has a way worse screen resolution specs but way better image and video quality. Thanks

A funny thing worth noting is that even the Desktop background image that comes with the laptop is blurred. I don't understand how that can be a good start.

I bought my wife a Yoga C930 for Christmas. It worked fine for a couple weeks. Then it sat for a few days used and when she went to use it again yesterday, it would not turn on. It should be fully charged as it had been plugged in. When you push the power button, the LED turns on, but the computer does absolutely nothing. It does not boot, or even go to a post screen. The display does not turn on, the fans don't turn on.....nothing. If I hold the power button for about 10 seconds, the led will go out, and it will turn on if I press again, but the computer never boots.  Any suggestions?

So i have a Yoga c930 with 8gb ram and an i7 8550u. And i also have some old linux OS's on my USB thumb drive. I can successfully boot to my desktop pc from that same drive. That pc supports both UEFI and legacy, and since the OS on the thumb drive can only boot through legacy i cannot seem to boot it on the Yoga C930. I've updated to the latest bios (8GCN32WW) and i've tried to both disable secure boot, and intel trust platform technology. Both unsuccessfully, and both disabled at the same time. Is it just not possible to boot from a legacy drive, or am i doing something wrong? Best regards, Mads.

Today I recieved my new C930 laptop from Lenovo and right off the bat I knew that the touchpad felt bad.   The main issue with it is the imprecise touchpad.  When trying to make small movements or adjustments the cursor on screen does not reflect the movement I am making on the touchpad.  The cursor either doesn't move at all, moves in a different manner than my hand, or jumps randomly.Another major issue for me is trying to two finger click (right click).  Often times when I attempt the two finger click, it is registered as a single finger click resulting in a left click.  This problem doesn't seem to appear when I do a two finger TAP though. There are other minor issues im experiencing, but they are so minor that I would be willing to just put up with it. I've tried updating the HID-compliant touch pad and HID-compliant mouse drivers, but I am told that I have the latest drivers even though the driver versions are 10.0.17763.316 and 10.0.17763.1 respectively. (these drivers are from 2006)  I've also tried uninstalling these drivers and restarting my pc to download new drivers. Anyways, any help to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I received this laptop as a replacememt of my defective yoga 720 the 18 October. After somw days of usage I can finally say that I ve got scammed by Lenovo, who sent me a testing unit with so mant problems! - Wacom pen and touch issues (such as ghosting and deas zones)- TouchPad gets disabled and became uselsss until next reboot. It also feels weird and it is kinda loose and imprecise! -KeyBoard acts weird and there is a noticeable input lag that I just can't stand since I am a programmer. -Hibernation/suspend/who knows who causes the impossibility to Wake up my laptop from sleep. When it happens I can only hard shut it down. - I've found some strange stats in the battery report that makes me think that I've received a testing unit with all of these malfunctionnality. My EMEA casw manager does no longee respond to my emails and I am willing to sens back this laptop and receive a refund or a new replacememt ( BUT NO MORE IDEAPAD LAPTOPS). If someone is contact with Lenovo I can send my case number. This is just unfair. Can't trust this Company. Check my YouTube Channel for the linked problems : https://youtu.be/5_daR-j7CQ8

I just purchased a Lenovo Yoga C930, and the Pen doesn't charge in the dock unless I push the pen all the way to the bottom of the dock (and only if I'm putting the pen in, not taking it out), and even then it only charges up to 50%.
The battery lasts a while after I do this, and it takes 15 seconds for the battery to charge from 6% to 50%.
The charging contacts on the Pen itself seem straight and fine.
The first day I used the pen, I used it heavily for a few hours and did not encounter a problem.
Any suggestions? Is this most likely a problem with the Pen or with the laptop itself?

Hi, I'm about to order the new yoga book c930, the one with the dual display (lcd + e-ink) setup. However, in my market (Sweden) only the m3 version with 128GB ssd and without pen is available as of now  Since this will be mostly a home web browsing 2-in-1 for me I'm fine with the performance and storage limitations but really would like to have a pen for it that works both for the LCD and the e-ink display for notes and sketching. Any hints as to which of all the different lenovo (or third party?) pens available that would work? Been going along fine. Updated a new battery f/w and was successful. Opted to installed OneKey Optimizer to calibrate the battery after the battery f/w update. However after install of OneKey Optimizer now I get a BSOD. I cannot restore from Acronis backups (externally), I cannot use the Win10 Repair PC option as every avenue takes me down the Bitlocker Recovery Key (to get going again) path. I didn't know this was enabled on a new PC and there's nothing about a key or password stored anywhere. Now it's a paperweight. I've seen similar when a system change is made with encryption running. There was a way to correct or change something in the UEFI/BIOS settings I thought. This was with another brand of PC though. Anyway to get past this even if I have to reset and lose everything?

Microsoft turns on Bitlocker by default on windows 10 if you use a microsoft account and have a compatible drive. (I always turn it off.))  You can get the key from MS.

Hey folks, I got the Yoga c930 and so far I'm loving it, save one issue--my shift key feels kind of loose (but sticky) and makes a different noise if you accidently hit it the wrong way.  Since it's not a pc-breaking issue, I don't want to have to send it in unless something else goes wrong, but I was wondering if anyone has tried any DIY maintenance on Yoga Keyboards.  I'm worried I might break a clip since even though their are videos for the Yoga 710 on YT, I don't know if they switched up the mechanism for this generation.  It sitll registers the click, so functionally--no issue, but it feels like a defective key that could just completely break out of the blue.

Microsoft Windows 10 pen settings is for the surface pen and the Lenovo Pen settings is for the Lenovo Pen with the top bottom. Nothing for the fancy new pen that is stored in the laptop (not even in the product guide - way to go Lenovo!).  I have been trying to call several times Lenovo technical support and the dial menu is horrible. I haven't been able to reach a technical support representative for the Lenovo Yoga C930. This is the worst service per purchased item prize I have received in my life.  I really hope that someone can help me. This purchase was supposed to be a good experience and so far it is just pathetic.

This happens once a minute or so and has made it impossible to use the pen to take notes or draw. I initially thought it was a palm rejection issue, but the random pen inputs occur at random areas on the screen where I am not touching.  I have tried:Reinstalling Windows from a USB stickCleaning my screen to make sure it's not a foreign object causing the inputStatic discharging my laptopActivating and deactivating palm rejection in Windows settingsReinstalling the Lenovo Pen application and Wacom driversWindows update and pen firmware update (both through Lenovo website and device manager)Updating other firmware (BIOS / graphic drivers)Changing pen sensitivity settings in Lenovo Pen appUsing different apps (Sketchpad, penbook, paint, illustrator)Nothing seems to work - anyone has this problem and/or solved it? Thank you.

Update: I may have found the solution, which is to uninstall the Lenovo Pen app. The glitching stopped and the pen input became more responsive.Of course, gone is the battery indicator and also the radial menu feature, but at least the pen is usable now.

Is the Precision Pen that comes with the Yoga Book C930 available for purchase? Or will any of the other available pens work with this model (I realize only the original pen will probably connect magnetically). One other question, the pen I recieved didn't come with any replacement tips, will these be available as well?

Hi, I have tried to connect my Yoga C930 to some projectors at school. So far it worked fine in one classroom on one campus but failed in several classrooms in another campus. In the latter case, even I pressed Windows key and P and chose duplicate, nothing showed up on the projector screen. Then I saw a student using X1C6. I asked him to try. He just plugged in the hdmi cable from the podium to to his laptop and images showed up on the projector screen immediately. So, it means it is not the problem with the projector but problem with my machine or USB-C to HDMI adapter.  I can use the same adapter to connect a former X1Y3 to the TV at home. It worked fine. Using the same adapter and same TV with the C930, it does not work. Anybody knows what is wrong?
