Adobe 6 being overridden by Adobe Acrobat 5

Q: Adobe 6 being overridden by Adobe Acrobat 5

I have downloaded Adobe 6 but it will not work when I open pdf's. I use Adobe Acrobat 5 to create pdf's and it is overriding 6. Can I do anything to correct this.

Preferred Solution: Adobe 6 being overridden by Adobe Acrobat 5

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm only taking a guess here, but since you mentioned your ability to create pdf's, I'm assuming you have the full version and your DL'ed v.6 is only a reader version. If that's the case, maybe the full version (5) defaults over v.6 (since it sounds like you might have both installed).

Just a guess.

Adobe Acrobat 4.0 was on my computer when I bought it. I have Windows ME. Recently I downloaded a free copy of the Acrobat Reader 6.0 but Adobe Acrobat is not free. Is Reader a part of Adobe Acrobat? Should I buy an updated version Adobe Acrobat and if so, what would be the advantage of doing so

A:What is the difference between Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat is the full version which allows you to create and edit pdf files. Reader is free and is just the viewer that allows you to read pdf documents someone else has created. If you still have the full version of 4.0 it should still work fine for creating simple pdf documents. The advantage of upgrading is that 4.0 is no longer supported by Adobe and the more recent versions (they're up to 7 now) have many more features. You should keep your version of the Reader current because older versions of the Reader may not be able to open documents created with the newer versions of Acrobat. But if you don't use Acrobat very much for creating and editing (and it sounds like you don't), I don't see any need to purchase an upgrade. Hope that all made sense.

SITUATION
I created a pdf. file from a document that had 'fill-in forms'. I used Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. to create the PDF file.

I then I burned the pdf. file on to a CD.

When I used my Adobe Reader 9.0 to open the PDF file, I could fill-in the forms, but not save them. I received a message that said I could not save the information, only print it unless I enabled the ‘local save capability’ in the original pdf. file.

I will be selling the CDs and need the buyer to be able to fill-in the forms, and then save the document on the CD or the buyer’s computer.

QUESTIONS
1. How do I enable the ‘local save capability’ on Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0, saving the document with the information typed into the fill-in forms?

2. How can I write protect the pdf. file so no one can edit it (except for the fill-in fields) nor duplicate the disk?

3. Has anyone bought a software product from www.SoftCaptain.com and if yes, what was your experience with the software product company?

A:Adobe Acrobat Professional & Adobe Reader

I can't answer all of your questions, but data on a CD is read only, you won't be able to save the edited file on that CD.
It can only be saved on the hard drive & then burned to CD again, if necessary.

Hello:

Adobe Reader is installed on my Win8.1 pc. I would like a more complete version, as I would like to be able to manipulate and fill in documents and such.

I was looking at what was available, but I have no idea which Adobe program would suit my purposes without having to buy something that would be wasted.

Any suggestions of which Adobe program that would work for my purposes?
Which versions are workable for Win8.1?

I have IE 7 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 and Adobe Distiller 5.0 on my computer. I have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0. I have tried to set the default reader for .pdf files to the AR 9.0 but this does not stick. Whenever I try to read a .pdf file using IE7 I get a nastygram telling me to open it with AR 9.0, then AR 5.0 opens with a blank window. Do I have to uninstall both 5.0 Adobe programs and AR 9.0 then reinstall AR 9.0. I really cannot afford to purchase a later version of Distiller that is why I am hanging on to it.

What are my options?

I have just installed the new operating system Windows 7 and then also installed ADOBE ACROBAT 7.0 pro and Office 2003. And for some reasons, I cannot create PDF files anymore. In fact, I get the warning 20225 because the PDF printer could not be installed during installation of ADOBE. Warning says: AA7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Prort and Printer. The Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable. Even trying to fix the installation does not work. And all the solutions online are for Windows XP. This is the Hijack file:EDIT: Log removed-Not relevant to the problem and not allowed in this forum ~ MG

A:ADOBE ACROBAT 7.0 pro

Not really sure this needs a hijack this log.

Since the Adobe Pro is installing a printer driver as it's mechanism to convert documents, this would need to be suitable for the OS. I am guessing this is a 32-bit version of Acrobat being installed on the 64-bit version of Windows 7, and this therefore won't work.

Did you see the error you mention during the installation?

I don't know if there was a 64-bit of Acrobat Pro 7, there is for Pro 9 to run on Vista 64 (and therefore should be fine on Win7).

Do you need all the features of this app, or could you use a free PDF generating tool like FreePDF or CutePDF? There are also other low-cost alternatives which are more feature-rich than most free ones.

I created a form in Adobe Acrobat 8 to be able to print stock certificates. I scanned the image, fill in the form fields that I created and print by choosing print “form fields only” under “comments and forms” in the printing options. I realize this option is only available in Adobe Acrobat 8.

Now for the confusion, someone who only has Adobe Acrobat 5 opened the same document because it is on a server and accessible to many computers and was able to print only the form fields by hitting print which is what she needs to happen. When she opened the same document a few days later, she was not able to print the form fields only. The image also printed. How was she able to print form fields only in Adobe Acrobat 5 and how do we duplicate this. Is there some setting in Adobe Acrobat 5 that I do not know about? Because if you ask me, she should have never been able to do it the first time but, I witnessed it with my own eyes. We have tried it with the print image option on and off in Adobe Acrobat 5 and it does not make a difference, we get the image and the form fields either way.

Please help us duplicate this again!
Thanks, Absolute24

A:Adobe Acrobat

I had this problem a while back.

Firstly, close Word.

You need to get rid of the acrobat add-in from Word. Search your hard drive for acro*.dot. Once found, delete it. Please note, you may have to used advanced search where it checks hidden and system files to return a result.

Restart Word.

All should be fine.

If not, please let me know.

Hello,

I've been using Adobe Acrobat Pro X to create documents. In the documents are drop-down lists and buttons. When the user clicks them, it activates a javascript. It works fine when the user has a pc or laptop, because the triggers are mouse-related.

But if they're using a handheld touchscreen device like a mobile phone or ipad, touching the objects doesn't trigger any action. The six event triggers are:

mouseup
mousedown
mouseenter
mouseexit
focus
blur
Does anybody know how to create a trigger for a touchscreen device?

I thought that Adobe Acrobat Pro XI may have addressed these issues, so I've downloaded it, but I still only see the six triggers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

My wife's computer has 3 different Adobe Acrobats, 3.1, 4.0 (I think) and 6.0. I think one of the lesser versions is used for the scanner but 6.0 is the most up to date and useful. Is there any way to designate one version of Adobe to be the default when you open something up or will I be OK to wipe everything off but the newest?

A:Adobe Acrobat

it's probably the latest version (default reset during the install) but:
open windows explorer to a directory with pdf files in it
highlight a pdf file
hold the shift key down and right click on the highlighted file
should get a pop up window with 'open with...' as one of the selections in the context menu
see what it says

if it's not the version you want
scroll down/find the one you want to open all of them with
select it
make sure'always use...' option is checked off
click ok

that should set the default to the version you want

Any suggestions on making the pdf smaller? Does anyone know why the pdf files are larger than .tiff files?

You could try squeezing them with a compression utility, such as WinZIP or PKzip.

As why .PDF are larger than .TIF, it depends on the format used and other overhead.

After importing a graphics document into adobe acrobat via the Distiller program,i.e. a fax (.pcx), is there a way to edit this .pdf document aside from attaching notes to it? We get applications via email and would like to modify them and re-email them. I have read the Acrobat documentation and it doesn't seem to be possible or at least very easy to do. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to be able to accomplish the above?

What other programs do you have? Acrobat, from what I can gather and have seen on my own installation, isn't much of a creator as it is a converter.

However, Word or a publishing application will be a great place for you to pull in a graphic, edit it, add to it, blah, blah, and then convert it to a PDF using Acrobat.

Hope this helps.

The Situation: I've set up pdf forms with fields that will be hosted on my server, when called up they are loaded into the browser on the client side, fields filled in by the client, that data is stored (SQL), then the next time the client brings up the form, it's filled with their data. Got this part working fine. They are also able to store another of that same form with different information.

The Problem: fields from the first form are being automatically filled in the new form the client brings up. Even though it should be a blank.

The Solution: On the command sent to bring up the new form, I need Acrobat to clear all fields that it has cached somewhere.

Does anyone know how to/what the command is to have Adobe clear fields before displaying a pdf?

Thanks in advance for your help!

A:Help if your REALLY know Adobe Acrobat!

Hiya

Found these ideas in the Adobe forums:

Close and restart the browser. When you simply navigate away, Acrobat is still running and may be keeping some of the information.

You can also create a form field that performs a reset action so that when a user finishes a form, they click the "reset" button before moving on to the next form.

Open the PDF in Acrobat, and go to the Document menu, Set Page Action. There you can choose Page Open, click Add, and in the Action type DDL, select "Reset form." From there you can select fields (one option is 'all fields') to resetClick to expand...

Do those ideas work?

I have to use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 because some of my programs are not compatable with newer versions.

My problem is the "FreeText". Every time I try to type something in the freetext box, it appears normal, but when I click out of the box, the text is very faded, hard to see, and won't print. But when I click back into the box, to edit it, it appears normal again. I have reinstalled the program and still no changes. The properties on the freetext box are correct, as far as I can tell. (Font: Arial Bold, Size: 8, Align: Left, Thickness: 0 pt, No Fill Color)

I don't know what to do. I am at my wits end. Adobe technical support won't help me because it is Version 5.0, which is too old to them.

This may be a simple problem to fix, but I can't seem to fix it or find where or how to fix it.

Please help me!

Hey there,

I'm currently applying for jobs in a state other than the one I currently live in. many of these applications come in the form of .pdf files with editable fields for personal information.

In Adobe Acrobat I fill out these fields with my personal info and save them. I even open them up to ensure the fields are still filled out. I attach to email and before sending and I check again to make sure all the info is still there, but after they reach the people I send them to, all filled out areas are wiped clean.

I'm not very familiar with Acrobat, but I would prefer to fill them out that way as opposed to losing format as a word doc. Any help would be a blessing!

For some reason, when I print a document from Acrobat, it does not line up on the page properly. The specific one that I am having a problem with was created in landscape form in MSF Publisher. It has equal borders left & right on the screen, (top & bottom in the printer) and when I print it from Publisher it is fine. However, when I try to print from the PDF document, it moves enough to the left (toward the top of the printed page) to cause the page to have twice the margin at the bottom than there is at the top. I am running XP, and the printer is a HP P1000. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
