Brand new comp Vista problem

Q: Brand new comp Vista problem

(not sure which forum this belongs in)

just set up a brand new comp pre-loaded with vista home premium. works just fine, except for when i have firefox and iTunes open at the same time. Any time there's a song playing and a new web page is loading, the song will skip and crackle until the page fully loads. definitely sounds like not enough power in the processor/RAM, but that doesn't make sense to me since I should have more than enough.

here are the specs:

eMachines T5274
Pentium dualcore E2180 2.0 GHz, 1MB shared L2 cache, 800 Mhz FSB
2 GB DDR2

help much appreciated!

Preferred Solution: Brand new comp Vista problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I recently built a system, bought all the parts on newegg, put it all together, and everything starts up fine, seems really smooth. Unfortunately when I try to install vista, it BSOD's on me before I can even get to any startup screen. It goes to the windows loading files part, then on the next teal blue screen it bsod's. I bought a new sound system along with all the other components and it included a sub that warns to keep it away from PC's etc. Unfortunately they put the boxes right next to each other outside my door, is there any chance it could have fried both my HD's? I've tried everything I can think of, installing with just 1 HD (tried both), tried with 1 stick of ram (tried both), I just can't think of what else it could be. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible or else I wouldn't even get this far, but I'll list my system.

Also tried to install windows xp as a last resort, I get a bsod during installation on that (right at the end, finalizing installation step) and eventually I even got it installed, but then it bsod right at the end. When I restarted I even got to a mainscreen kinda, where it told me it was changing my resolution, it changed it then I got an error about Windows media player. Tried repairing the install and it said couldn't copy file wmp.dll along with about 30 other files. I'm just at a loss and really frustrated here. Anyway, here is the system.

A:BSOD installing Vista on a brand new comp

Hi -

I am concerned about the formatting of the drive(s).

Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try the Vista installation again. Leave XP out of this for now.

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Be sure to change the BIOS firing order so the DVD is 1st.

If you get another BSOD, get at least the 1st 2 sets of numbers. Any digits to the right of the "0x" that are zeroes are assumed. So, if the code is

0x0000008e -- this is equal to 0x8e or 8e

Try to get the "8e" or whatever the number is from the 1st and 2nd set of numbers of the bugcheck

hi all. My laptop is a Packard Bell Argo C2. I only purchased it yesterday and after using it for about half an hour the computer froze and the screen went completely blue. The computer reboots automatically after about 5 seconds of it being blue. When it has fully loaded again Vista prompts this message:

(i have took 3 seperate screen shots with each one scrolled down the problem details until the end)

When i click check for solution, it says it is checking and then just disappears with no solution.

Computer specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T550 @ 1.66GHz 1.67GHz
Memory (RAM): 894 MB
Vista Home Premium

It has happened several times since yesterday and now i have begun to worry about it. I hope i dont have to take it back to the place as this is the third laptop in 5 months. There have been no bumps or knocks to the laptop.
could somebody please help and explain any solutions, details, information. thanks very much.

A:Problem with Vista on brand new laptop.

Third time's a charm, as they say.

I would take it back and request a full refund - not a replacement.

Hi...
I just got my brand new custom built computer from NCIX.com working...It was working fine, playing all my games in the highest settings...when i was installing a game that came with my asus video card my computer decided to start shutting down....i have a lanparty motherboard designed for overclocking and i overclocked its slightly and increased some of the DRAM voltages...when i start it back up it asks me if i want to run in safe mode..safe mode with networking..or safe mode with a prompt. it also asks if i want to run it in the last workable settings or the just open windows normally...then a blue screen pops up and says that a problem has been detected and that windows shut down to prevent any hardware from being damaged. i put all my BIOS setting back to their original setting but everytime i try and start my computer this same old blue screen pops up telling me that i have to do all this stuff like run memory test or check for BIOS updates..what should i do...should i reformat?????????

Were these 2 computers networked together? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key at boot? Can you boot to the Recovery Console?

I bought this new computer running Windows 7 Ultimate, it's a very decent computer, but every now and then (not too often thankfully) it just restarts out of the blue. It doesn't show any errors or BSoD, just restarts. When it does it, I'm not putting any real load on the system, just playing a simple game... So any idea what could be causing it?

Thanks in advance.

A:Brand new comp restarts itself? (No BSoD)

It could be overheating. If it is a laptop, buy a laptop cooler. If it is a desktop, go into the Bios and look for the voltages, temps and fan speeds. Also open the case up and make sure the processor fan is spinning normally. If it is a new computer, take it back and get another one, it should be under warranty.

Hey Guys,

I just got what I thought was a dank comp, but it is soo choppy playing COD4, even on med-low settings...

I have a Intel T9400 processor(2.53 GHz, 1066fsb, 6mb cache), with 4 Gigs of DDR3 and a Radeon 3650 HD 512 mb video card. I expected to dom but stuff is working differently that I thought... I think it may be a problem with vista home premium 64bit, and lenovo's been mildly helpful. Any suggestions are extreeeemly extreeemly appreciated.

A:COD4 problem, New Comp or Vista 64bit?

First of all, you should never expect a laptop to be amazing at games, especially new games. They are not designed for serious gaming, no matter what the manufacturer says.

Now, the problem you're having is most likely a driver issue. Download the latest drivers for your video card here, and see if it works any better.

Don't expect to be able to play the game on high settings - even a desktop version of the HD 3650 can't do it.

Most of the time when i am listening to internet radio the broadcast will stop and then resume, it will do this consistently regardless of what the computer is doing. The computer is on a wireless connection and other computers on the same network, which are hard wired, do not have the same problem. Additionally, the computer is running vista and i do know that that may be a problem. The internet connection is cable and maintains a consistent 700 kbs download, so internet speed is not an issue. Can anyone offer some solutions so that i may end this issue.

A:Problem with internet radio on wireless vista comp

Have you tried a different internet radio station?
Are you using Shoutcast? Or someone else?
Have you use this internet radio station prior?
When last you rebooted that system or clear out the cache for IE 7.?

I do that same but stream audio to media network device.. But the PC is the main one connected to internet. There are times you loose the connection. Could be the internet radio station itself or glitch somewhere on your end.

I want to be able to print from my XP Computer to the Vista computer in the other room, wirelessly.

New, Shared Printer

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Hello,

I just purchased a microsoft zune mp4 player (brown 30gb). I have loaded all my music (that's compatible) and my video files, and a few pictures. The 2nd day I was on a road trip and it ran out of battery that night, and I left it alone I had no computer access to charge it. The next morning I open the zune software to charge it (today), and I wanted to load a song onto it and it said error, no more space. How is this possible if I had 21 gigs left the last night and i only have 1200 songs, 10 pics, and 2-3 movies, 10 music videos. I looked online and also other people had the same problem, but it didn't show how to solve it. And the microsoft website just said the inbox should've been enlarged, and that didn't make any sense but I did it anyway, no results. I just spent 200 bucks on something I was pretty hyped about, now look where it put me, microsoft always lets me down from the x64OS, to MFSX, and to this.

Does anybody know what to do?

Hi.
I just got my new laptop and I am trying to transfer files from old computer to it. I tried to set up a home network by following the wizard. When I go to My Network Places from my new computer, nothing shows. I tried pressing the View Workgroup computers button from there and all I got was:

"Home not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

What should I do?

A:Network Problem. New comp can't access old comp.

Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:

------------------- Use text after this line -------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000
------------------- Use text before this line -----------------

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.

If that doesn't do it, let's follow these basic debug steps.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version. A failure here needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, DHCP Client, DNS Client, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

Hiya,

I'm new to the forums, had a browse and couldn't find anything obvious answering my problem, so apologies if this sort of thing has been solved before.

I have recently put together a new rig (I have been building my own rigs for like the last 15 years):

Intel i7 965 3.2Ghz CPU
Thermalright 120 ultra CPU cooler
12 GB OCZ DDR3 memory 1866MHz
MSI X58 Eclipse Mobo
2 Zotac 295GTX Video cards
4 Samsung 23" monitors
1Tb Samsung sata F1 HD
Benq DVD Burner
Antec 1200 gaming case
Coolermaster 1kw PSU

I left all the standard bios setting and haven't been doing any overclocking.

I clean installed Windows Vista 64bit version and it gives me really really slow booting (~1 min 10s to even get to the login icon). Then when I finally get in, most apps (eg explorer, internet explorer etc) freeze up with the blue spinning circle for 15mins - 30mins, some for up to 2 or 3 hours. The apps then work normally for a minute or so and then freeze up again.

So I formatted the HD and clean installed Windows Vista 32 and the PC boots in 13secs to the logni icon and the same apps work instantly and don't freeze at all.

So thinking I got unlucky I went back to re-format/re-install a clean Windows Vista 64 but I am getting the same slow problems.

I would very much like to run the 64 bit version so if anyone can suggest a solution or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh last night I also installed the lastest Intel Inf updates but this hasn't helped... Read more

I recently bought an Acer 6530G laptop that came preloaded with Vista *64.

The machine performs ridiculously slow on simple tasks and has since it came out of the box.

What do I mean by slow? For instance, when I'm typing this it's possible for me to type faster than the letters render. It doesn't get horribly behind, but it can get behind. If I hold delete to delete an entire sentence, the lag is very noticeable.

If I'm on a simple chat interface, say the one on facebook, it can become nearly impossible. Letters will appear as much as 10 seconds after hitting the key.

Not exactly resource heavy functions, huh?

The biggest problem I have is video playback. Trying to watch a live streaming Netflix movie is just impossible. It lags like mad - choppy, stilted, etc. The audio is unaffected, only video is impacted in this scenario.

Something weird about this: When I have the Netflix film on the screen, the CPU basically hit 100% and remains. If I leave the movie playing, and minimize the window so I can hear the movie playing, but not see it CPU immediately drops to 30%. When I re-enlarge I get nice playback for ~5 seconds. I'm VERY confused by this - and as you can imagine, VERY frustrated.

Now, to add to my frustration I can do ALL these things flawlessly on another box in my home - an 8 year old Dell box with XP SP3 and a whopping 256mb RAM.

Why is it then, that a BRAND new machine with 4 gigs RAM, and a faster processor does FAR... Read more

I can offer no help unfortunately, but I do have a Vista boot-issue of my own, and I've searched threads across the net, but cannot find an answer to my problem; and a lot of people apparently have had this problem.

My Specs are:
1. Asus P5N7A-VM Core 2 Quad/ GeForce 9300/ FSB 1333/ Hybrid SLI/ HDMI/ A&V&GbE/ MATX Motherboard
3. 500GB 7200RPM SATA2 HDD
4. 37GB 10000RPM Raptor HDD (for OS)
7. Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core (2.4GHz 8MB 1066FSB)
8. 8GB 800MHz (4X-2GB) DDR2 PC6400 RAM (NOTE; I HAVE JUST ONE STICK IN NOW)
9. BLACK 22X Dual Layer DVD-RW Burner w/ Lightscribe
10. Generic SY-VIA-4FC 4-Port Firewire 1394a PCI card

Now, I originally wanted to Install Vista x64 bit, but when I turn on the machine and boot from Vista Install Disc (ultimate), I immediately get error message "...checksum does not match the computed checksum," and I can never get any further than that.

Odd thing is, I'm able to install Windows XP SP1 without problem. What can I do; is there something in my BIOS that needs to be changed to run 64bit? I can't run the Vista Setup from XP-Pro because it says it's a 64bit installer and I'm running 32-bit OS.

Help would be great; this is my first build, and I'm thinking I should have just stuck with factory. I thought I could do it, but I'm beginning to think I was wrong.

Thanks; josh

A:Vista Installation On Brand New Builds

Not sure if there is a setting in bios., maybe you should take a look.
If there was a 32bit os installed on the drive previous, I would use
killdisk to wipe the drive, then start over on the os install,,,64bit..
Does sound kind of strange....start with one stick of ram, might be a
compatiblity problem with the ram...hard to say remotely from where
im sitting,,,,

I've had my new HP Laptop for only a few weeks and it's blue screening on me.

When I go to the Vista folder called Problem Reports and Solutions, it tells me I'm having this problem on a regular basis:

Service CyberLink Background Capture Service (CBCS) hung on starting.
For instance, the log right now says this has happened 9 times in the last 3 days - two of those times were simultaneous with a blue screen. When I click on "check for solutions", I get "no solutions found".

Should I take my laptop back and get my $$ back? Or is there something I can do to eliminate the blue screens?

You should contact the manufactuer of the computer before you take the laptop back. Since the laptop is only a few weeks old, it's under warranty and the manufacture's Customer Service Department should be able to help you.

If you don't get any satisfaction from the Customer Service Department then take it back to the store and either damand a refund or an exchange for a new laptop.

I've just built a brand-new PC with Windows Vista 64bit (with SP2). I haven't installed any softwares aside from an anti-virus (from legal source, not downloaded) and havent been on any harmful websites. So I am pretty sure that my pc does not have any virus.

Now that's set, my problem is that, every now and then, totally random, Windows Media Player will keep popping out. Even if I try to close it, it comes back and would not stop until I close it over 20+ times.

I have already been to "Default Programs" and disable access to it, as well as disabling all Windows Media Player services through "msconfig"

Please help, thanks!

deleted, or unistalled? There's a difference, I assume you know. "File missing" tells me you deleted stuff but didn't uninstall it properly. But, even if that's the case, your HJT log doesn't seem all that big to me. But then, I don't have a gold shield so I can't give any advice. Why are you worried about it anyway? Hey everyone,

I have a brand new lenovo laptop model 3000 N100 with vista preloaded. It worked fine for the last month or so until some strange things started happening.

- My IE search provider and home page have been hijacked. I also get regular popups form the system tray telling me to download antispyware.
- I also get random episodes of multiple IE windows opening by themselves and taking me to some crappy antispyware sites.
- The one process in startup programs list that i saw was unusual was icthis.exe - unable to remove it.
- Both Norton autoupdate and windiws update quit with errors now

I have posted a hijack this logfile - Please do let me know what i should do to get this laptop working normally again!

Hi.

A few weeks ago I decided to get a new computer for gaming, but not knowing much in the field of hardware I let my cousin (way better on the subject) basically pick out the parts, let me order them, and he'd put it together.

The parts came a few days ago and Ive had the computer built for awhile, we ordered Vista home premium with it (32 bit edition) and I still have yet to get it installing correctly.

So basically the first night I start installing it, everything seems to be going fine but its taking a LONG time (around 7 hours), at 1 AM it still shows no signs of being done and I did not want to leave it on overnight, so I turned it off.

Turned it on the next morning, saying it didnt finish and would need to resintall, tried it again except this time it stays at 0% on the second step ("Expaning Files")

I mean, after like an hour or 2, its still at 0%, but the computer has not actually FROZEN, just hanging or whatever.

Ok, no big deal, I use a reformating program, completely wipe the HD and try again.

Its not freezing anymore! huzzah! So I wait for 7 MORE long hours, watching it slowly install, it restarts a few times, theres some points where its just a black screen with the mouse cursor for like 15 minutes, I get the "Vista is preparing for its first start" message, it restarts, says its completeing the installation, then I get an error saying something along the lines of "Windows setup failed to install Vista on this hardware"... A:Huge issues installing Vista on a brand new PC

It's possible that you got bad memory or a bad drive. Start with the memory. If you have multiple sticks, remove them one at a time and try to install. If you want faster results, use a memory test. You can use the one on the Vista DVD or:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

Then I'd suspect some misconfiguration of the drive. Check BIOS settings and look on the drive for a jumper (even SATA).

I've installed a few Vistas and the number 7 was not ever involved, even on old machines.

Hello folks, just purchased an extremely affordable ACER laptop on sale at a popular retailer. Although it is powered by an AMD "Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK-38" it came with Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and the computer folks at Best Buy who may or may not know what they're talking about basically said it would NOT support a Windows Vista 64 bit OS.

I'm interested in knowing if the Turion processor's 32 "extra" bits are accessible and if a 64 bit system can utilize them or if they are 'tied off' so to speak, so the processor is basically crippled at the outset.

This is my way to venture into the Vista world, as I decided to leave my perfectly functional XP machine inviolate, so I'm happy enough with my purchase, but if anyone else has considered this option as a way to install a 64 bit system I'd be interested in knowing, or if you have leads as to where to go to get more information, I'd be delighted to learn something new.

I'd also like some general setup advice, as I didn't take the store folks up on their offer to remove the sellware and tweak the system, figuring I'd learn more if I tried this my ownself. I used the Vista uninstall to get rid of the 60 day then buy Office software and the Norton utility sellware. I'm typing in Winpad which I like well enough.

Is there a need to generate a 'recovery disk' and if so how?

What antivirus software do y'all recommend? (I'm... Read more

A:Advice in setting up brand new Vista laptop

You can make, and should make, a Recovery disc by going to All Programs and then to Acer. There should be a utility to make the disc sets without the discs you won't be able to reinstall Windows or the software that came with it if you have problems with the computer and if the laptop didn't come with discs.

I'd don't see why it wouldn't support the 64 bit version, but there are a lot more software compatibility issues with Vista 64 bit then with the 32 bit versions, many programs simply will not work with the 64 bit edition.

I see no reason why they would need to remove any pre-installed software, you can do that yourself, or to 'tweak' the system.

If you like PC-Cillin then go for that, just don't buy a Symantec/Norton product - they just slow down any computer and don't do a great job of protecting the system.

If you go to Google and type "Windows Vista" or "Vista Review" or "Vista versus XP" you'll get lots of results dealing with various aspects of Vista.

I've had a Dell XPS1530 for one week. Already it doesn't boot to Windows. After putting it in my Vista password, it takes longer than normal before the screen goes blank (note: my desktop background is all black). Again, after a longer than normal wait, the McAfee logo appears. Then nothing, although I can hear that there is some HD activity for a few minutes. The only way I can get the computer to respond is by swiping my finger over the scanner. This makes the fingerprint software pop-up.

I've tried restoring it to 3 different earlier configurations and I tried the first option in repairing Vista as well (something about fixing start-up problems). Same result. I've also tried booting in safe mode. Dell Tech support told me I need to restore to factory conditions, but I am trying to avoid that.

My suspicion is that this has something to do with the fingerprint scanner as I had just set it up for the first time prior to this issue. Because it was the only software responding, I set it up for a second time while I was having this problem and merged my old swipes with my second set-up. I can't find a way to disable it in the BIOS to test my theory.

It's running 32-bit SP1. The machine has 4 gigs of RAM.

Any ideas? Thanks...

To anyone who can help,

I bought a new HP Pavilion DV2395EA Laptop 3-4 days ago and it came with Vista Home Premium already installed. For a few days I began putting in some of my music CD's and importing the tracks to iTunes. It worked fine.

Today, I inserted a PC Game CD (Battlefield II if it makes any difference) and the CD-Rom made the usual sounds that you hear when a CD is inserted, and then everything just stopped. Just to make sure, I put it another music CD (different to the first one I put in a few days back) and the same thing happened - the CD Drive reacted initially then stopped. Neither of the CD's were run.

So I went to the Device Manager, DVD/CD-Rom Drives, and the CD-Rom is called

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M ATA Device

I right-clicked it and it stated the following under "Device Status":

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Obviously I clicked "check for solutions" and it informed me that my driver was the latest and is upto-date.

When I select Driver > Update Driver it says that I already have the best driver software installed on my device.

My clear problem is that there is a problem with my CD Drive and I don't know how to solve it.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated,

Zeyad

Hi,
I just received a brand new computer from Palicomp via ebay. It came preloaded with Vista Premium 32bit, however it has singularly failed to get to the welcome screen once. I have tried in safe mode but it freezes after loading some presets. I have tried with the Vista CD in but it freezes at the black microsoft preload screen. No disc activity whatsoever.
This is straight out of the box brand new, and I know this is primarily the vendor's problem, but since they are relocating and won't be available for a week (!) in the meantime could someone advise me on what I could do to resolve it. It's a Quad core with 1GB of video RAM and 4gb RAM, and was supposed to have been preinstalled and tested. HAHA.
Thanks is advance
