Foxfire No sound for Wma or Wav files

Q: Foxfire No sound for Wma or Wav files

I have just installed foxfire. I have sound with flash, video, and midi, mid.

I have not sound for wma or wav files. The file settings show windows media player to be used but there are no advanced settings for this in foxfire.

The sound files play on my computer fine, all speakers are working, the sound card is fine. Everything works on Internet Explorer.

I am using WindowsXP Home edition and have not had any problems with sound.

Javascript is allowed, but some of the scripts are blocked even though the websites are on my approved list.

I use .htacess files which work with apache and Internet Explorer but work bizare with foxfire.

Does anyone have an help for these problems.

Thanks so much.

Preferred Solution: Foxfire No sound for Wma or Wav files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My website plays a small sound file with IE but not with foxfire. What kind of coding is required to play sound with Foxfire? I tried <bgsound loop="1" src="file:Welcome.wav" />
as that is what Expressions comes up with. Maybe one needs to insert a Flash file or something. thanks in advance

Ok I am haveing some very interesting issues with my laptop. Ok when I download Foxfire and try to start it it tells me it can connect with the host. My second one is that when I try to use my MSN messneger I tells me that my default gateway appers off line. Also when I try to log into certain websites using my username and password. It keeps telling me invalid password. I don't have a clue whats going on but I assume something is blocking me from doing these things. Also when I tried to upgrade my Yahoo messenger it couldn't connect with the host also. Some please help me figure this out. I have tried everything I can come up with.

Since installing Foxfire, I'm experiencing numerous problems with IE7. IE7 Window opens, then does nothing else, remains white! Before it started this, I had insecure settings, which IE reminded me everytime I opened it, with a strip at the top, "...click here to correct these insecure settings..." I use Foxfire to play online games, but Foxfire doesn't have a shockwave player addon, so I try switching back and forth but now IE won't let me do anything much less play games. Now that Reid has helped me make this pc more secure and clean, I don't know what to do to resolve the problems I'm experiencing now. Sometimes IE7 works, but then it seems to quits working, won't change web pages, won't bring up a different site. I have entered most of my regular sites in Trusted, but I'm still having difficulties. I am not a techie! and need someone's help getting this computer operating efficiently for my daughter. Plus I don't know how to set the security settings so I can play online games without being driven crazy with
this prompt or that prompt. I've changed some settings to enable, others to prompt me if this happens, which seem to be insecure.

A:IE7/Foxfire

Is it too much to hope for, being able to play online games, and have a secure pc? I don't know what to do to fix any of this and allow continued online gaming.

I have bought Webroot Spysweeper to keep my computer clean of spyware because I got a good deal on it when I bought Norton anti virus at this store. I've been very happy with it because it detects and blocks spyware with every website I go to, when I use Internet Explorer. But lately I have been having problems with Microsoft's Internet Explorer: when I up the security and not allow Active-X controls and Unsafe scripts, I can't go to most websites and use all the features

So I downloaded Foxfire because I have heard it is a great and secure Web browser- only Spysweeper doesn't detect or block ANY spyware with Foxfire OR Netscape, and when I checked the list of cookies in the Foxfire program after going to Yahoo.com, Doubleclick cookie was there, which is definately a cookie Spysweeper BLOCKS

Does Webroot Spyware work with Foxfire? If not, is there an antispyware program that works like Spysweeper but with Foxfire? If not, Why not and how can I keep the spyware from getting on my computer in the first place without using Internet Explorer?

By and by, did this post make sense?

Before I run the DDS, etc.
1st I wanted to check with you about having Malwarebytes Premium and Avast (free) anti-virus on my laptop at the same time.
I installed both after reading that a computer needed another anti-virus to work with the Malwarebytes.
Were they wrong?? Should I uninstall Avast?

***I wanted to see if the problem I've been having with Malwarebytes finding viruses all the time - was because of Firefox OR if from my searching, surfing, checking emails, opening news, etc.*****

Below is a copy of 1 of the viruses after scanning with Malwarebytes Premium (2nd time):

PUP.Optional.FreeCauseTB.A, C:\Users\Bet\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5rd6ovwd.default\FCTB\{771f3037-9885-4423-b50f-a5ede4854e26}, , [840127c8a1dace6850a47a6889795ea2],

--------------------
Concerning Avast - not sure how good it is -
1st - I scanned with Malwarebytes Pre (viruses were quarantined)
2nd - went online for a short time & did my usual
3rd - I scanned using Avast - nothing was found
4th - I immediately scanned with Malwarebytes Premium & it found viruses - like the one above (I quarantined all - after I copied & pasted to word.

The above may answer my questions - if not, please let me know if I need to complete the instructions for further assistance.

Thank you.

why I've never found this out is a wonder, but where do I find the whatever it's called, for incoming and out going mail, the pop server, or whatever

A:foxfire's mail

Well most programs auto detect those settings now for you. Is there not a setting like that?

If not my advice is for you to call your ISP(internet service provider) and ask them. When I got the internet for the first time 7 years ago I got a card with all those details on it.

Tech support is usually free by most companies now. Even if it is not this is something they should have gave to you.

Hope this helps!

There is no need to delete IE. If you don't use it, it will not be a drain on resoures or cause any security issues. There are some properties of IE that are used by other parts of Windows. I think this is what your problems are centered around. You can try doing a repair on IE through Add/Remove programs or try going thru Windows Update and download/install IE6 again. Maybe others will have more suggestions. Good luck.

Hi - I have an older laptop running XP-3 (2 gigs ram). I also have IE 9 which I HATE (I liked IE-8 better) and also Foxfire 10 (again - I had no problems with Foxfire 9). My problem is that recently, my keyboard is whacky whenever I'm online. It adds extra characters (typically the | sign) as soon as I get into either IE or Foxfire. and types itself once i click in Search and as soon as I backspace them out, they appear again. Also, typically while ONLINE - it skips keys, sluggish and spacebar doesn't always work. This started 2 days ago.

I 'restored' my computer to a week ago - booted with same problem (and I wasn't having this problem 3 days ago). I have to say that up till a few months ago I only used IE but when I installed IE 9 - I couldn't type anymore online....especially on facebook...very choppy, delayed and frustrating.....(how do I go back to IE 8?). So...then I put on Foxfire 9 which worked wonderfully - very slick, smooth, etc. Then a couple of weeks ago it updated itself to Foxfire 10 (which was very upsetting to me). Ever since then, my internet is slower, keys lag a little. I'm thinking about unstalling Foxfire 10 and going back to 9 to see if there's a difference.

The weird part is that when I uses Word - the keyboard is fine (as far as I can tell - I'll test again tonight). It's only through the browsers I seem to have the problem. I picked up no viruses......I have not tried an external keyboard yet (which would probably tell me something).

My web browsers simply won't load a web page. I am still connected to the internet as I can use AIM, but no page will be loaded by either IE or Foxfire. I've run Ad-Aware, Norton and Spy Sweeper and still nothing.

Any help is appriciated, I know it will probably be easier for you to have an idea of what's going on once I post the HiJack, but just wondering if there has been another thread on this or anything(my searching and browsing didn't find me anything).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

This is the same from the icon on my desktop to the icon in my start menu.

I already posted a different form of this question, but no one seems interested in helping me, so I thought I would try and be more specific. When I log on to play spades on yahoo.com, IE stops responding. Here are the details:

When I go to yahoo.com, I click sign in, get redirected to the sign in page, then I enter a username and password, then it redirects to the home page. I click on games, it redirects to a games page with many different games. Then I click spades. Next, I redirect to a page listing all of the different spades "rooms". At the bottom of this page it says :http://games.yahoo.com/games/login2?page=sp#stayhere. (I don't know if there is any relevance in the "Stayhere" part of the command) I click a room to open an additional window showing me the different games being played at "tables" in that "room". Next, I click to enter any table I like, opening an additional window and play a game (or as many games as I like at that table). At this point I have three windows open. At some point I exit the game and close that "table" (hence, closing the window), then close the "room" (hence, closing another window). Now I have only the window with all the different rooms displayed. Here's where the trouble comes in. When I click on a room at this point, another window shows on the bottom taskbar, but does not open, and now IE is frozen, I have to control-Alt-delete to exit.

This happens every time I ... Read more

...responding from your email...I don't use Mozilla Firefox (assume that is what you meant when you said foxfire)
So I can't be of much help there.

You could go check your JAVA and javascript at this site:
http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm

Try temporarily disabling your anti-virus, firewall and any popup blockers (including Yahoo! toolbar, if you have it). See if that makes a difference. If if does, you'll have to experiment to find which one is the culprit.

As long as you were able to play Spades before this problem started, you could try a system restore:

...Or you might try posting in the Tech Support Guy Game forum. There are probably sharper gamers in there:

Ever since last week I have been unable to use Mozilla Foxfire, thus forcing me to use IE which is the worst ever for my computer.

The problem appears to be, that, when I click the Foxfire icon, it will appear that it is going to my homepage, but then the error reports and netscape quality feedback thing pop up. Now, I thought this could have been based upon my homepage and maybe pictures uploaded to their page, but that's not the case. When I try to open links via email or look at old AIM logs that open up in an internet window, my computer recognizes that Mozilla Foxfire is my default browser, and the same problem continues to happen.

How can this be fixed?

Thank you.

A:mozilla foxfire problem!

Try and open Firefox in safe mode. Start menu> Mozilla Firefox> Mozilla Firefox(Safe Mode). If Firefox works, then it is an extension or theme that is effecting startup. You can go to the profile folder and delete the history.dat file. Close Firefox and in windows xp go to Run and type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ then hit OK. Open the profile folder and delete the history.dat. Restart Firefox and see if it works. You can also create a new profile and see if your old profile is corrupt.

So I was wondering how to erase the address bar history (drop down history menu) on the Mozilla??

I have scrolled down to highlight the unwanted address and then did the shift/delete, ctrl/delete... etc... sure it deleted for the moment, but when I opened a new window they all re-appeared! grrrr

Did the tools/options/clear now(all history... etc)... again, nothing! It is all back... all my history is gone and my personal info such as passwords... but drop down addresses are still there and the little star is now all highlighted yellow!

So does any one have any good ideas??

Thanks... jj

Yesterday I was googling some info and a dialog box popped up that said I couldn't open one of my desired sites unless I updated Adobe Flash. It appeared to be a genuine Adobe message and I fell for it. I downloaded the "update" to my desktop and ran it. Immediately my previously pristine computer started acting up.I ran Malwarebytes and AVG. Both of them found problems and quarantined them. Then I did a System Restore to the previous day's restore point. GreetingsI'm afraid to access any passworded sites, particularly my banking info.Smart moveOne or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkitThis could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. When Firefox is my defalt browser and I try to open a shortcut on my desktop created by Internet Expelorer I receive the following message:

"Windows cannot find (URL) . Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search."

However, the URL shortcut does open the selected URL.

How do I stop the message from appearing everytime I try to open a desktop shortcut?

Thanks.

A:Error message when using Foxfire Browser

Check the file associations for HTM and HTML. You'll find this by opening any Windows Explorer window, and selecting Tools, then Folder Options, then clicking on the File Types tab. The list there should be in alphanumeric order; left click once on any item listed there, and start typing HTM, and it'll jump to the relevant place in the list, and you can make sure the associations are both set to FireFox.

I am currently on Goggle Chrome, but I enjoy going onto Foxfire.

But my problem with my Firefox browser is that it is not showing any of the websites I go too. And the default/homepage it's currently on won't link to other website. I'm new on this forum, so I apologize if this isn't enough information. but I don't know what happened to my Firefox browser to make it unresponsive to any internet websites. So any help would be appreciated and if anyone needs more information, let me know specifically what it may be and I'll try to add it on to this as well.

This showed up when I tried going back onto FireFox.

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

This is what it tells me but, when I use task manager, there is not foxfire running. I have restarted my computer, and still no luck. Not sure what is going on. I have looked all over the tasks and don't see foxfire running. So I can't shut it down. Even turning off the computer and turning it back on didn't work, uninstalled foxfire again. Same problem. Help, Thanks Bunny
