Outlook 97 problem. "Unable to display folder. The folder no longer exists".

Q: Outlook 97 problem. "Unable to display folder. The folder no longer exists".

I've messed up a bit and need some help. I was trying to create a folder to back-up Contacts in Outlook 97. I seem to have deleted something crucial because when I go into Outlook and click on Contacts (or Calendar, Journal etc - any of them) I get a message "Unable to display folder. The folder no longer exists".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of Office but I still get the same message. Help please.

Preferred Solution: Outlook 97 problem. "Unable to display folder. The folder no longer exists".

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is Windows 7.0 sometimes unable to display a folder that has attribute="hidden"?

A tool associated with Visual Build Pro 8.7 called "Enhanced Zip" seems to be stripping away the "hidden" attribute of an attribute="hidden" folder, after the folder has been added to a zip file.

We are uncertain if "Enhanced Zip" is bugged, and is "un-hiding" folders with attribute="hidden", or if the zipped folder retains attribute="hidden" but Windows 7.0 mistakenly displays it as "Non-Hidden", when you look at the folder's Properties.

This is an FYI,  I have resolved my problem but want to let others know the solution.

I have a Win 7 Professional, SP1 box that has a fileshare on a 2008 Enterprise server 64 bit SP2 where the user has been trying to create a folder.  Randomly she receives the "unable to create the folder "name of folder"  Too many files opened

box the fileshare was configured to synchronized.  Here is what I did to diagnose the issue.  I ran the program that creates the folder from the win7 box, then checked the UNC path from the win7 box to confirm folder is created, which it was.
I logged into the server and went to the mapped drive to that directory which the folder as not present (F5 did not show the folder)  From the server I typed the UNC path to the folder which did not exist.  Went to dos on the server to the layer
above the created folder and did a "dir" which did not show the newly created folder.  I then turned off the allow files to be available offline on the fileshare of the 2008 server.  Then I disable offline folders on the Win7 box.  After disabling
both of these the application is quickly creating the new ... Read more

Hi, We have an issue with a user regarding their outlook and public folders. They originally had access to their own email address and the company's Finance mailbox, since she has now moved teams, she no longer requires access to the Finance mailbox. Permissions were removed and when this happened, she lost access to calendars in her public folders. The error message is ?Cannot display the folder. Microsoft outlook cannot access the specified folder location?. The Finance mailbox was also her primary email address and was removed when permissions were removed.
Seeing there was an error we then recreated her profile and this didn?t resolve the issue, we removed all outlook data and files bar the software itself from her PC and added it again and this didn?t resolve. We checked the permissions for the public folders and these were all fine, we removed and added them again just in case and it didn?t change anything.
We?ve found that when moving her to another machine, the issue also follows, but when she logs onto the OWA (Outlook Web App) she is able to view and edit the calendars as normal, which shows it isn't a permission issue. We?ve also had another user log onto her machine and it was working so we know its related to her account in some way.
We've also checked that she is up to date on service packs and Windows updates.
Please could anyone advise/assist?
I?ve provided as much information regarding this as I can recall but if you need any ad... Read more

I would try a scan with MalwareBytes Antimalware. A couple of years ago I had something similar where I could not delete any files using Explorer. MBAM picked up the registry hack and fixed it.

The free version works just fine for scanning. A "Threat Scan" should be enough to pick if off if it's a Registry nuisance.

I came across this error in the Task Scheduler when checking scheduled task and it happened as soon as the application was opened so I did a little searching and found out the first occurrence was due to the Defrag schedule and found a solution for that here :

[/IMG]

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...s/01e60fa1-8004-40b4-9cf0-247fb80edb56?auth=1

So now that took care of that error and decided to check a few more folders and sure enough I located another error of the same having to do with the AppID folder in the TaskScheduler Windows folder and it seems as though the PolicyConverter entry is missing from the task scheduler in this folder and more than likely from the Reg. I have not done a search there yet but it is located in the Windows Task folder system files . I will cut to the quick here and ask shouldn't I be able to import export that entry from a system Reg that has the entry to the system that does not have the entry and reboot and go back into the TaskScheduler to see if the entry is there now ? Of course I would first back up the system Reg or probably just do a complete back up first the continue .

I have attached some more Images for anyone's ? if need be .

I preformed sfc /scannow more than once with no results .

The images below are from a working system .

Install win7 x64 (ultimate) runs fine. After about a week, this error appears in when starting task scheduler.I know something is wrong because of scheduled task will not run, so I check task scheduler and get this error. So, I check the registry entries for scheduled tasks and make them match the %systemroot%\system32\tasks folder. The error goes away.... BUT  and this is what no one else checks, go ahead and click "display all running tasks".Good luck!  "Task Scheduler cannot access Task Scheduler"...  ie. media center will no longer wake up and record shows..defrag will not run.. nothing scheduled.  In some test installs, the machine will no longer go to sleep!!.(and yes.. Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

Hello XP Team

Well the problem that I am going to describe below is not new to me, it happened more than once, but this time I decided to dig in and find out what is exactly happening behind the scenes. I hope to get some active help from you .

When I use to open My Computer folder I use to get the display in the following order under the headings according to the catagory [the "views" option is selected as "details"] :

Quote:

Files Stored on This Computer
__________________________

Shared Documents
Administrator's Documents

Hard Disk Drives
___________________________

Local Disk (C:)
DISK1_VOL2 (D:)
DISK1_VOL3 (E:)
Page Files (F:)

Devices with Removable Storage
____________________________

3? Floppy (A:)
DVD/CD-RW Drive (G:)

Beside all the above all the respective detail informations are shown.

Suddenly I found out that the catagories are not showing anymore. It is just a plain list of the above starting from the folders and ending at G: with the details beside them.
The "views" option is still set at details which I feel most comfortable to use- only the catagories headings and the corresponding grouping are all gone .

This happened earlier as I already said. But this time I would like to find it out and a possible remedy.

Please see what you can do.

Thank you.

For reasons unknown, when I click "New Folder" on the toolbar (via WIndows Explorer or any window where this appears on the Toolbar/Command bar) nothing happens. I'm unable to create a new folder in the window that's open. Doesn't matter where I try this, it's not working.

I'm logged in with my regular User profile, which has Admin privileges. Can you help?

(It isn't that the "New Folder" words don't appear on the toolbar ... it's just that it doesn't work to create a new folder in the window.) I can see other files in the folder, as well as other previous folders, but I can't create any new folders where I'd like them. I've looked in the Folder Options, and everything looks fine.

Hi,

I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons...

This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

I use Windows Explorer numerous times every day. I like to navigate to folders using the folders pane and click on items in main view. I sometimes drill down to folders in the main view to finish my navigation until I'm at the folder I wish to see.

All of the sudden I'm finding that when I click on a folder in the main view, a new Explorer window pops up. I did not change any of my preferences in this regard. I went into the Tools-->Folder Options and saw that "Open each folder in the same window" was still selected, as I'd left it long ago (a couple of years now). So, I switched the radio button to the "Open new folder" option, then switched it back to opening the folders in the same view. I clicked "Apply" and closed Explorer (I did this as a kind of "forced" reset). Then I opened Explorer again, and it's still not obeying this setting.

What's going on? Is this influenced by some other settings location I haven't looked at yet?
AFAIK, this started not long after I had uninstalled IE9 and IE8, rolling back to IE7, then installed IE9 again. I did this to resolve a peculiar issue with certain files marked as corrupt in SFC scannow (turns out it's a defect when going to IE9 from IE8). I do realize that Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer share a lot of the same files. But this is functionality exclusive to Windows Explorer. Really strange...

I have Vista Home Premium.

When I use "Save As" in any application (for example, Wordpad), the "New Folder" button no longer works. Same fault when I download from the internet.

I need to first create the folder using Windows Explorer.

When I try to remember what I might have done recently to cause that fault, it's possible that I made some mistake when using Brink's excellent tutorial to speed up Vista:

BTW: Any mistake would be mine, because I've used that tutorial previously with impressive results

A:The "New Folder" button no longer works

Hello OldGrantonian,

If this is a recent problem, you might try a system restore to a point before it started. Info here if needed. System Restore - How to

If you use a restore point before the Speed up tutorial was followed, it will undo some of those tweaks. Redo them one at a time to try and find which one might have caused the problem.

Hope this helps.

Running Windows 7 Pro with all updates. I recently tried to open task manager, for the first time in a long time, to determine why a scheduled task did not run. When I opened task manager I received the following error dialog 113 times where "xxx" is the name of a task and was different for each of the 113 error dialogs.

The selected task "xxx" no longer exists. To see the current tasks, click Refresh.

In the registry under TaskCache\Tasks I have only 12 entries, 11 of which point to the Windows\GWXTriggers folder and one that points to the Windows\Defender folder. I presume 113 entries are missing corresponding to the 113 error dialogs displayed when I open task manager.

All of the tasks appear in the TaskCache\Tree registry branch. All of the task files appear to be present in the Windows\System32\Tasks folder tree.*

How can I fix this problem? I assume I need to rebuild the TaskCache\Tasks registry entries from the files in*Windows\System32\Tasks folder tree. Is there a tool that will do this? Note that I DO NOT have a restore point from which I can recover the registry entries. Thanks.

You can change the share name over the network. My machine does the same thing.

When you click 'Share this Folder over the network' you are given the option to name the share. It will warn you that if it is over 12 chars, then older machines on the network may not be able to see it etc etc. Ok this and then check that the shared documents folder appears as such on the machine you wish to access with.

Bear in mind you folder will be showing in your 'Network Folders' as 'Documents on {computername} ({computername}). Can you not just point to this folder on the second machine instead?

I use the USB cable to transfer photos from my digital camera to the computer. Is there a way to put "Display Contents in Folder" on the list of actions (Always Use This Action) to take when a camera connects? I'm thinking if I can just get it on that list, then I can put a checkmark in Always Take This Action.
Maybe what I'm thinking of is for things like opening devices, opening dvds, playing cds, etc. Actions include "Take No Action," showing a red universal "No" symbol. Open With Windows Media Player is another entry. A yellow folder is the symbol used for Display Contents In Folder.
The pic shows the sorts of choices that are on my list when a camera is detected.

Don't know if it's the same as what you want to do, but when I hook up my camera (HP Photosmart) with the USB cable, there's a setting in the camera itself that controls how it looks to the computer. One choice is to have it show as another drive.

Does anyone have any idea how i can get it to revert to what it used to show?

You will need to make sure that you officially "leave" the Homegroup to fix that particular problem. After that you will want to set up a Workgroup type of network.

I recently installed a problem called EnhanceMySe7en and tried a few tweaks however things didn't really turn out as I had planned.

I made a system restore point before I made the changes, but then when I tried to restore it back, it says there were no points available ... Thats wierd coz I've made 3 restore points over the last 3 days as I've been changing stuff.

Anyways I would love it if anyone knows a possible fix for the problems I've encounterd.

1) The "my computer" link has dissapeared from the start menu (no option to re-add in the startmenu properties)
2) When I open "my computer" shorcut from rocketdock I get no drives showing up
3) Option to add my computer icon to desktop greyed out
4) "My computer" is no longer in the left pane of explorer (libraries and network etc are still there). It means I can't browse to my files. I can only if it lets me type in an address like C:\windows etc... but in some browse dialogs I'm locked out completely
5) Another unrelated issue in my shutdown menu. I have logoff, sleep, hibernate, restart options in my shutdown menu, but no shutdown

I suspect with the My Computer issue that its deleted some registry keys pointing to it... please let me know if you have any ideas how to fix it. Thanks

Upon downloading the beta for 7, I backed up all my stuff and wanted to do a fresh install with 7.  During the setup process, my old XP partition was to be used and was detected by setup-which automatically created the "windows.old" folder.  When the install was complete, I wanted to just delete that folder-I had backed up everything on that partition and wanted the extra space to install some games to see how they would run on 7.  Just before the delete process was finished, an error occured (something to do with insufficient priviliges i think).  The "windows.old" folder is still there, along with a few subfolders.  I can explore through the folders... but cannot delete them.  I get the message of "could not find this item- the item is not located in C:\".  So I close the explorer window and open my computer.  Then double click the C drive.  The folder still shows up there.  Tried to delete the folder again... no luck.  Same thing. I realize I can just boot up with cmd prompt and delete the folder manually (or at least attempt to do so), I only wanted to post this to make others aware that there may be some unknown issues with windows explorer.  Maybe someone at MS will read this and look into it... <maybe>

Am not sure what has gone wrong, but the last modified date shows 1/04/2012, but i havint touched those folders on that day. I used picasa to pull out all teh pics on the system and it matchs the ones present on the folder. I am really concerned that i mite hav lost everything, and i dont hav back of all the pictures. Can a recovery restore all of it ? I am sure I did not delete them.

Any help will be appreciated

A:Unable to find pictures in "my picture" folder

Depends on what actually happened to them. If they were deleted, and as you have been using the PC for months without noticing, they have likely already been overwritten. You can try data recovery software and see what is found.

In any case, this should be an eye opener that you should have at LEAST one copy of any important data. Preferably multiple copies, with a copy kept offsite. For example, if the PC and copies are stored in a single location, and that location is destroyed...all of the data is gone.

I have tried to share a folder, and in the dialog where I can choose which users to share to, I select myself and click "Add", but Vista responds "Unable to locate user". Now, the user was in the list and is correctly spelled, so something strange is going on here.

The network is private, and the only thing connected is a WDTV Live (media player), via a router.
In Network and Sharing Center, network discovery is on, file sharing is on, public folder sharing is on, printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is off, and media sharing is on.

A:Folder share - "unable to locate user"

I hade the folder shared as two names (because of a bug in WDTV), and that apparantly caused the bug in Vista. I removed the extra name, and now my user could be found again.

I get this dialog files whenever I try to modify (copy, delete or edit) contents of the "C:\Program Files" folder or its sub folders. When I click the Continue button, everything goes on fine without any problem. Some programs give write errors when I try to modify a file inside Program Files with them (e.g.; Notepad++ gives write error when I try to edit a text file inside one of the sub-folders of the Program Files folder).

I'm the only user on this computer, and I'm already the administrator who installed this Windows. There is no other OS installed on this machine.

This problem has been occurring for a long time. At first I ignored it, but later it started to became bothersome. I don't remember how have it started, or what had I done before it first appeared.

What can I do to stop Windows showing me this dialog box? I want to freely modify contents of any directory in my computer. This is a home computer, I have no social privacy concerns.

I have a folder that is full of a lot of files including some big .avi, .mp3, .wav files.

Something has happened and I cannot open the folder.

The error message says "folder is not accessible/error performing inpage operation".

I would like to open the folder but I would settle for deleting it. I cannot delete it. The error message says "cannon delete: the folder is not empty".

When I go to props props says it has 0 bytes, 0 files, 0 everything.

When the file is selected (such as to check props) I can hear the drive grinding and it takes a minute of grinding for anything to happen.

I know the folder is still taking up space on my drive because if I go to My Computer and look at free space the space used is the same as before this problem started.

I am using Windows 2000 Professional, 5.0.2195 Service Pack 2 Build 2195.

I have a 42 Gig hard drive NTFS file system.

Need help to either delete this folder and its contents to free up space or open it and get the contents out.

Please help.

Our office uses an exchange server that has no configured organizational forms library configured. Whenever any of our client machines selects "choose form", outlook will automatically try to open the Organizational Forms Library and repond with the error: "Form load failed. You don't have apporpriate permission to perform this operation", after which a drop down box will allow the user to switch to a different folder and find the forms to choose, relegating this to a nuisance. In any case, I'm looking for a way to change the default locatoin to look for "choose form" so this error message won't appear every time. Perhaps it's something blatantly obvious, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I accidentally drag-and-dropped an important folder from the Navigation Pane to the center section of Outlook where I was viewing the list of emails in my Inbox. It did not ask me if I wanted to delete the folder or give any errors - it was just gone when I released the mouse.

Any ideas on how to get the folder back would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I have a problem when creating an email message in my Outlook 2003.
1. I create a “New Untitled Message”.

2. I ‘left click’ on the “TO:” option to search my Contacts for the name I want.

3.I get this error: “The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook help.

“Contacts”
“Contacts”
“Personal Address Book”
The first item “Outlook Address Book”, shows “no entries in this address book.

The next, “Contacts” shows the error message in item 3 from above.
The next “Contacts” shows ALL my contacts, which is what I want.
The last, Pesrsonal Address Book, shows nothing.

I tried following the “help” for removing a contacts folder that isn’t desired, but since the name is the same, I can’t delete/remove the one that has nothing in it.

Outlook 2003sp2 with Exchange 2003sp2.

When I try to "Send on Behalf" an email in mailbox that I have the appropriate delegated permissions where the email was saved in the Drafts folder my credentials are in the "From" field once the recipient receives the message. Even though I add the mailbox owner's name in the "From" field before sending.

Any ideas? This only happens when a message is stored in the Drafts folder. And to the best of my knowledge I used to be able to send from Drafts without issue.

Thanks for the assistance.

Did you try changing the from field to represent the mailbox you are trying to send on behalf of. Also on the Exchange server they can give you implicit rights which will make it not say sent on behalf of.

Prior to a few weeks back where I made added a function to the folder file type, it didn't matter if I doubled clicked on a file folder on either the left hand pane or the right hand pane of Windows Explorer, Folder View. Either way opened the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.

Since I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.

However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".

This is driving me nuts. The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".

This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.

In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find

For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open

Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?

A:Windows Explorer and Folder shortcuts open to "my documents" and not the folder

Welcome to TSG....

You can try doing a system restore to a day or so before you made the change to view. It will not affect any data that you have but you might have to re-install any programs that you have had since that date.

Okay, here's the rundown as best as I can remember it...

Several years ago (around 10, if I'm approximating), I purchased a slew of components and built my first computer from scratch. Since that time I have run through four power supplies. It seems as though some other component is causing these power supply failures. This is not the purpose of this post, however (but some back story).

Now, I am not the most technically savvy person in the world, and after the second failure, I took the computer to a "professional". While I don't know what he did in its entirety, I did notice a change that confused me. However, as I had decided to be an end user from this point forward and not a techie person, I didn't question it. The change... I could access the user account "Documents" folder from the "My Computer" window but not from within the "Documents and Settings" folder under the root directory.

In other words, if I were to double-click the "My Computer" icon, I would be given the usual options of hard disk drives and CD drives as well as the "Shared Documents" folder and the "_Username_ Documents" folder for the user logged in. (That would by Ahr Neely's Documents for the Ahr Neely user, and as there was only every one user created on the computer it was the only documents folder that should have existed.)

However, if I were to, from the "My Computer" window, open the C:\ d... Read more
