I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I wonder if there is a method to force windows7 to recognise my mp3 player as hard drive instead of player.

Why? 2 things.

I find it annoying that I have to click on player then internal storage, when it could go directly to internal storage right away.

2. When I first plugged my player in I saw lots of files inside, after running the Phillips (sync?) setup it hid lot's of files even though I have show hidden files on.

Anyone knows the roundabout?

Thanks

A:Force recognize mp3 player as external hard drive instead of player

well the easiest way to over come your first problem is to change what windows does when its first plugged in. its called default services I think in control panel. and when plugged in you can set it to open in file view as default. no clicking needed.
only reason it does what it does is because when you first plugged it in windows box popped up and asked you what you wanted to do amd you chose to open player not open folders.

Hello,

I have an HP Envy with Win8 pre-installed. I am trying to do a dual boot setup with windows 7, as some of the software I use daily, is not compatible with win8. The new software has yet to be released, and will not run in any compatibility modes.

Knowing this is beating a dead horse, I have searched for hours, and have gotten some of the pre-req stuff done ie: created virtual drive 20gb, initialized it, turned UEFI Mode/Secure Boot OFF, etc.

I can see the vhd, but when I try to load win7, the vhd is not visible. When I exit win7 install, and win8 reboots, I can no longer see the vhd.

I'm sure I'm not doing something right.

Hey guys,

I'm needing some information that is extremely hard to come by.

The 740m in the HP Envy 17t-j000, does anyone know, or does anyone know WHERE to look (Google failed me, or I failed Google!) to find out whether it needs ACTIVE displayport -> HDMI adapters?

I question this because I know the 57xx series from ATI required active. The card only supported 1 RAMDAC signal (or something?) and the Nvidia's tech seems different. According to HP support, passive will work fine. I need to have the adapters ordered ASAP, but I do not want to order the incorrect ones.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Have used an external monitor for over 2 years with no problem.  Suddenly, my external monitor is no longer detected.  It works on other computer.  Tried switching from HDMI to VGA-no help.  Tried different HDMI cable-no help. Sometimes if I disable and enable the Intel HD graphics card it will come back but not every time.  Updated video drivers.  I saw another older post but the supposed fix link does not work anymore. The external monitor is simply not detected even though the laptop "beeps" when I plug in the HDMI cable so it recognizes that being plugged in.  Monitor stays dark. Any idea?

I would like an external gpu for a little bit more gaming power and wouldnt like to spend more than $200. Im thinking maybe a gtx 760 or maybe something a little bit more powerful. Which GPU's could i use around that range? Aslo im thinking the best way to do this would be using a USB 3.1 port which has a 10 gbs bandwidth and the gtx 760 has a 6gbs memory speed so that should work right? Im hesistant to connect to the mPCLE because to get to it i have to take off the whole bottom of my computer. Anyways i just got this computer and im exploring upgrade capabilities. Thanks in advance.

A:Can my HP Envy - 15 support an external GPU?

USB 3.1 does not have sufficient bandwidth to support a gaming type video card. You might be able to find a video card for $200 but the mPCIe slot would be your only means of connecting it and the rig needed to connect the video card and other parts you need would bring the cost to much more than $200. You need an external power supply, a cable going to the mPCIe slot and a dock to put the video card in and then an external monitor.  And then, bottom line, the performance of these rigs is disppointing because the mPCIe slot is 1 x bandwidth and on a desktop a PCIx slot for a video card is 8x or 16x. But people have gotten them to work and actually get fairly decent frame rates. This shows hooking an eGPU to an expresscard slot which your laptop does not have: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2984716/laptop-computers/how-to-transform-your-laptop-into-a-gaming-p... https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-External-PCI-Graphics-Card/dp/B00Q4VMLF6 I also worry about heat and, as you mention, you have to leave the laptop half torn apart while you run this rig. Not ideal. USB-C Thunderbolt 3 is going to change all this. You will have a single port which will provide direct access to all the power the CPU can generate. Some laptop makers allow USB-C external video and others do not, however.  Good luck.

Hi, Any USB external optical disc drive (ODD) can do. Probably you prefer a thin/USB powered one, it is normally slower than others but you don't need a power brick. You may consider the one shich can also play and durn BluRay (BD) disc's too. There are many external ODD's around. Any good computer shop will stock them. For example      http://cplonline.com.au/optical-drives/external-dvd-writer.html Regards.

I have a problem with an HP Envy m6-k125dx.
https://forums.techguy.org/threads/hp-envy-starts-and-goes-directly-to-hibernate.1203428/

The first step to troubleshoot it is to test the monitor (according to HP support).

Their product specs say it has an HDMI port.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04094893
but not what kind of HDMI port it is.

What type of HDMI port is on the HP Envy m6-k125dx?

Then I can order an adapter to see if the monitor is the problem.

I need an adapter that will fit a 15 pin VGA. The monitor will also accept the other plugin with more pins (whatever that is called)

So I need whatever type of HDMI port the HP Envy m6-k125dx has that will connect to a normal computer monitor?

What do I need to test this monitor?

Also, I don't get any access to BIOS or any of that stuff. So when I turn on the computer pressing Esc or F11 won't even show anything on the screen. Is the ability to read the monitor at that point related to a bad video card. It is just a black screen. not even a cursor shows

Anyway, I need to start the troubleshooting process and I need to know which adapter to get.

Hi all, Ive had a GreenStar external enclosure for ages, I couldnt get it to work right so its been unpluged for awile, Found out the other day that some of the power adapters for this model were faulty, So ive got a new one & put a 2TB HDD in it.

So anyway ive got it working. My question is it has a button on the back called copy. Just wondering how this works as i have two internal drives & mainly want to do a full backup of my second drive + a few files off my C drive.

This is the HDD enclosure.

http://www.xpcgear.com/me740ps.html

Also in regards to copying files. Im running Win7.
I have a 500GB external drive which awile ago i had say 400GB on it, & wanted to copy over another 30GB or so, The new 30GB i wanted to copy was in with the other 400GB of stuff that was already on the drive (but on the C drive copy). So i wanted to select the hole folder (430GB in which 400GB was already on the external) and drag that over expecting it to give me the prompt to skip or override the existing files (which i would of skipped) but instead it tells me there isn't enough room on the external drive, Even tho it was only 30GB of new data. So it was thinking it had to move over another 430GB of data instead of checking for double up's first.

Any way around this so next time it checks what im trying to copy before it checks the space required?
Or do i have to go though every file & select the ones i want.... Because that will take ages lol.

Well, it greatly depends on what mp3 player it is, but with most of them, you have to take the music off of the CD and turn them into mp3s. This can be done with Windows Media Player, using the "Rip" function. From there, there should be a program that came with the mp3 player that allows you to put it onto the player.

When I attempt to reboot while I have any external HDD (no OS installed) attached to the machine, it will not reboot.  No BIOS screen, no error messages; the screen simply goes to black and will not complete the reboot cycle.  I have to disconnect the HDDs, do a hard shutdown, and power it up again. This happened while I had the original factory HDD in the machine.  I later bought a SSD and installed a clean OEM Windows 10 64-bit, and I still have this same problem.  If I have no external HDD attached, the machine reboots properly. I went into the BIOS and changed the boot device order so that it would look to the internal HDD first, and I still have this issue.

Check the device manager under display adapters. Sometimes on a Windows 10 update you get Microsoft Basic which will not activate the HDMI port and you need to get the correct driver for the video. It would also help if we had the full model number or Product Number.

Do you have all the current drivers for all your hardware installed? Since this has been an ongoing longterm problem, I would start from scratch. I would remove any external hardware and do a clean install. The make sure I have all the current drivers installed along with all MS updates. I would also check and see if a BIOS update was available and install latest BIOS if needed.

Hi,
I have four computers all running Win XP Professional with the latest updates and connected to a D-Link D714P+ router/print-server.
I'm trying to add an external hard disk, Plextor PX-EH, to a free LAN port on the router. Seems to work fine, and I can access the PX-EH from the computers by typing PX-EH into my web-browser.
However, I'm supposed to properly use the PX-EH by making it show up as a computer under My Network Places
Here's what the manual says:
"1 Click Start, and right-click My Network Places, and then click Search for Computers.
2 Enter PX‑EH under Computer name:, and then click the Search button.
3 Double-click PX‑EH series (PX‑EH), which will be displayed as a result of search.
[THIS IS WHAT DOES NOT HAPPEN: I get "not found"]
4 Double-click the disk folder.
The usable PX‑EH folder will open. When a file is copied to this window, it will be saved in the PX‑EH.
Once the icon is displayed correctly, you can use the PX‑EH as a network folder."

Any suggestions, please?

I recently detected this with spyhunter and was wondering what it was. I can't seem to find it with any of my other virus/spyware detectors, (like 6 others). It said it was a registry located in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Setup.Player

thanks for any input...

The screen on my new laptop has gone blank on starting up, it shows nothing, i tried a hard reset which didn't fix. The external monitor won't display anything.
It's a HP envy 15-j112tx running windows 8. With a hdmi connection i tried to connect to an external monitor. The monitor was previously using vga to a desktop, i unplugged that and connected my dvi cable to the dvi port. The monitor says check video connection then goes to sleep. I connected the cables with the laptop turned off and again with the laptop already on. The monitor still says check video connection. The connection is secure, it is a new cord. I pressed the F4 button to switch between screens and waited inbetween presses but still nothing.

It is still under warranty. I disabled the nvidia graphics card a few days ago to try n save on power usage, as it also has an intel graphics card. It has worked fine for a few days since i did that.
Now that i've powered it on/off about 5 times the hard drive stops whirring after about a minute, yet the power button light remains on. It no longer turns off when i hold power for even a minute. I dont want to kill the thing.

Can anyone help me, i can't find an answer in previous threads.

A:External monitor wont work to fix blank screen HP envy

I have the same issue on my Envy-1130LA, white screen after power up and the external monitor doesn't work.

I bought a new flex cable to test if it works.

Are you already repaired your laptop? Please share your experience.

I am trying to install Windows 10 on my 2nd laptop (which has no internal harddrive - it's broken). I have windows 10 setup installed on my USB flash drive and BIOS settings configured so that it boots from there. The boot works perfect, the steps to install windows shows, however when the step to find a Hard-drive to install windows on is where the problem arrives.

I have my 1TB external harddrive connected, yet it is not showing above in the "where to install menu".

Any ideas?

A:Windows 10 setup not recognising external HDD

You cannot install windows 10 to boot from a usb connected drive whatever its size or at least NOT in the usual way of installing 10

If it has NO internal hard drive then what is the 60GB drive0 the install media has found?

On an aside issue - if this attempt is to install it on your second laptop - is it then licensed for use

I am having trouble with my external hard drive because every time I plug it in, it decides it wants to change its drive letter (first it will be External ( F: ) Then it will change to External ( G: ) after plugging it back in most likely after my computer reboots) . I have looked around a little to see if there is a way to have my external remember what drive letter to pick but even thinking of the logic behind the situation, I can't imagine there being a way.
But that is not necessarily my biggest issue, I want my external to have Folder Icons for each one of my TV show folders and etc. The reason I brought up the changing drive letter is because when I assign an icon to the folder I want it on, the file path includes the External( F: ) or External( G: ). so if the drive letter changes, it can't find the icons anymore. I'm just wondering if there is any way that I could keep the Icons on my external so they go to each computer, but have like a dynamic file path or some other deal that lets me access them regardless of the drive letter.
Anyone got any ideas?

A:Is there a Proper way to setup Icons for my external?

Hi,

I'm not sure about the icon part, but the usual trick with USB drives is to assign them a drive letter further down the alphabetical order (e.g. X or Y or Z) that prevents them from conflicting with letters earlier on up the alphabetic order. It should also work for assigning letters like F and G too.

You do this by using Disk Management, as shown in the image below. Simply right-click on the disk, and then choose the Change Drive Letter and Paths option.

Regards,
Golden

I have an external monitor hooked up and it is mirroring the display on my laptop monitor. But I want one large desktop. Going to Control Panel -> Adjust screen resolution shows an icon for just one monitor. Clicking detect or identify does nothing. When I first installed Windows 7 a few weeks ago I recall getting both 1 and 2 shown. Now I'm stuck. I have an ATI card on this machine. How do I enable the system to "see" both monitors?

A:external monitor detection and setup

Try pressing Windows key + P. You want the second option from the right. Also, I remember having to restart some computers after attaching the second monitor to get it to work, but that was with XP.

am trying to install windows on a laptop with broken screen
it will not display on crt monitor when running setup..

how would i change this..

hp dv9000 entertainment series

A:external monitor during setup of windows

I believe on the dv series laptops you have to press the fn key and one of the function keys at the top that has a picture of a monitor on it for the display to route through the video out jack.
