Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

Q: Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

We purchased a VLK with Software Assurance from a local distributor here my question is what if from their VLSC License the Operating System listed are

10 Windows 7 Professional
82 Windows 8 Enterprise
15 Windows 7 Enterprise

We don't want to install Windows 8 as of now to our office and we wanted to retain the Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise as our Operating System. Do we have a problem for Activation if we still insists to used Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise Operating System using the Windows 8 Enterprise 82 Licenses?

Thank you very much

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

There is no way you can use a Windows 8 Enterprise licence for anything else than Windows 8 Enterprise. You simply can not activate Windows with a product key belonging to another Windows version and edition.

With those licences you can install and activate 27 25 Windows 7, not a single more.

So, noticed that installing the Enterprise version of Windows 8 RTM it never prompts for a key. However, once installed, the client won't activate and says

Error code 0x8007232B, DNS name does not exist.

In looking at the license key, it shows a key that ends in CWCK7. (but of course, remember I didn't input a key)
It appears that enterprise is pre-baked with a KMS key, but unlike Windows 7 there is no button to "Change Product Key".

You have to get elevated command prompt and type
slmgr.vbs -ipk "Your key"

That seems a bit strange.
Where I got the above info;
Windows 8 RTM - Enterprise Activation

A:Windows 8 Enterprise RTM Activation

It's not strange at all. Most enterprises create an unattended install that will automatically add the key. There is a "default" key that's used to install if one is not provided, but this key cannot be activated. Windows 7 worked the same way, if you did not enter a key at install time, it had a "default" key buried down inside, you just never really saw it.

Hi there
Does anybody have any idea how long you can run windows 8 PRO (not the Enterprise version) before activation required if you aren't connected to the Internet.

You have to enter the product key at install time -- OK but if you are not connected to the Internet it obviously cant't activate.

Does it give you say 3 or 30 days grace before activating - or does it keep throwing up Please Activate Windows "Nag Screens".

If it throws up Nag screens this could be a real bummer as you might well want to load up W8 - see if it works on your hardware - and THEN activate. If you can't do even a little bit of testing first then IMO that's a hugely regressive step.

Windows 8 Enterprise uses a different activation method -- normally with VL products it will connect to a KMS server so I don't have issues there - and these things are Multi Activation- but PRO is a RETAIL product so it will activate differently.

Anybody who's loaded up W8 Pro tried this yet or do you all activate automatically.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi,
I bought a laptop (Lenovo X230) a couple of months ago from a seller on ebay. The machine came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 and MS Office 2010 Pro versions.
The laptop was working fine until a couple of days ago when I suddenly received a message about Windows activation error. MS Office started complaining about activation issues at the same time.
I tried to install latest Windows patches and used tools like slmgr/slui etc but to no avail. I keep getting errors.

The diagnostic report is pasted below. Can someone please advise on next steps?

Thanks and regards.

Volume licences such as this can never be legitimately sold and you will not be able to activate it. Try to get a refund from the seller if possible.

The only solution is likely to be to get your System Admin to change the Key to an MAK type - since KMS Keys rely on a functional SLIC table to assure the license integrity.

My parents recently bought me a Lenovo T400 thinkpad. It came with Windows 7 Enterprise installed on it but it keeps saying that im activation key is incorrect/invalid. I've done some research and have came to the conclusion that it was previously used for some company that had volume licenses for this laptop.

1st. Am I right to make that assumption, and how can I keep windows 7 enterprise without having to purchase it since its already on my laptop and every time i sign on it keeps asking me about it and changes all my settings?
2nd. If i were to change softwares i can get windows 7 professional from my university but would i lose all the software from lenovo thats already on here like; fingerprint reader, updater, power controls etc.... and its ability to boot up in 20-25 seconds?

thank you in advance.

Hi, Everyone this is my 1st post, I had been reading Sevenforums before i actually join it. Eversince then i got most of my doubt solve.

I just bought a Sony Vaio Y series come with Windows 7 Starter.

I got a bad deal form Malaysia giving windows 7 stater and 320gb hd, whereas S'pore giving Windows 7 home premiun and 500hd. Anyway i like the design and portability of this model.

I got a Year Warranty, But i'm wanted to upgrade it to Win7 Ent. and also wanted to upgrade my ram to 4GB max. my existing one is 2GB. but i afraid this would void the warranty.

Let get my question i wanted to update to Win7 Ent with out and not keeping my starter. but i afraid of driver issue, i plan to boot by USB setup.

Any advice?

A:Install Windows 7 Enterprise on Netbook Replacing Windows 7 Starter

Yeah -- warranty advice can only properly come from the warranty holder (despite what others here may tell you). So, you need to check with Sony support to see if performing such a Win7 upgrade will compromise your warranty in any way. My guess would be that it would not -- but (like everyone else posting here) -- that is only a guess.

Hi guys,

I have a little dilemma here but I guess the title says it all.
I want to get started with WP8/8.1 dev and I decided to dual boot on my work laptop (Mac Book).
The problem is I don't want to use my Dreamspark (OEM as far as I know) license on my work PC since it's an academic license if I'm not mistaking and this might cause some problems at work, and I also don't want to activate it on my 6 years old PC since I have some projects still going on and I'm planning on upgrading sometime next year.

So my question(s) is simple: Can I install the 90 days trial of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and reinstall again, on same PC after the trial is over? Is this technically and legally possible?

A:Install Windows 8.1 Enterprise more than once on same PC!

Hello,

Microsoft gives you only a 90-day trial. At the end of the trial, you are to remove it from the PC as per the EULA.

Otherwise, you will be violating the EULA, and would be illegal.

If you want Windows to stay installed longer, then you will need to purchase a copy of Windows to install and have a product key number to activate with.

My friend has a Dell Inspiron M5030 that he of course neglected to get any sort of anti-virus protection or anything on, and wouldn't you know it, he got a ton of viruses. He said that he had somebody "fix" his computer previously. Whoever it was seems to have deleted the partition where the windows setup was or something, because I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I have a universal install disc of my own for Win 7, but it doesn't include Windows 7 Enterprise x64, which of course is the version his computer uses. I have no .wim file for Enterprise nor do I have any access to it. Is there a way to find said file or can I somehow alter my .iso to allow installation of Enterprise? I have no clue what to do in this situation for him.

A:Windows 7 Enterprise Install

Have you friend contact Dell for assistance. Windows 7 Enterprise isn't sold in the retail market, and unlike the other editions, you can only download a trial, which can't be activated with a key, AFAIK.

This is a stupid question but I was in a rush trying to install Win Enterprise 64-bit on two different types of laptops and I know the suggested method is install os-drivers-windows updates-then programs.....I went ahead and installed programs before I installed Windows updates....everything seems fine....programs work, etc. That should be okay if I did that "out of order" correct?

A:Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit Clean Install

Generaly you should do os, drivers, updates, software. But sometimes we get in a rush and it really doesn't hurt anything if you do it out of order. The reason why drivers should be done after the os is so that all your devices work right before you do updates.

Found the solution!! After talking to HP Elitesupport, I found out that Intel removed USB 2.0 chipset support from theie Skylake chipset.  Meaning that normal USB installs for windows will not work.    Microsoft Windows ISO doesn't have the native USB 3.0 drivers either.   So you have to add the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows ISO.    Intel came through on tihs one too.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.   https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility Run this and point to your USB Installation media and shazamm!!

(2)should i first install windows 7 pro, activate it with the key and then clean install windows 10 and activate it with the windows 7 pro key

I'm looking to pick up a Surface Pro 4 over the holidays and I need control over whether my machine gets updates or not and when as well. I just updated my Desktop PC to the Anniversary update and it looks like the deferred upgrades option is no longer present and from some research looks like this setting is only being respected on the enterprise edition even when using the Local Group policy Editor. My Question is if i spend extra to get the enterprise edition will it work on the Surface Pro 4. I know the surface Pro 4 comes with the Windows 10 Pro edition. Is it simple to just clean wipe the device and install windows through the UEFI and using a USB. Also could I just simply install all the drivers again or would that come down automatically on the device. If anyone has any links to a good thread on the surface pro 4 and installing new windows versions i would appreciate it. Thanks

HI all, in my laptop i have windows 7 home premium 64 bit version but i need to install the windows 7 enterprise version in my laptop but i need to keep my home premium OS in my hard drive , simply i need to have dual boot in my laptop with windows 7 home premium and enterprise versions can it be Done??

A:How to install Windows 7 Enterprise and Home Premium in A same Laptop?

Sure, make 2 primary partitions (you already have Windows HP installed on one) and install Enterprise on the other.

Why do you want Enterprise ?

And a better question, why do you want 2 installs of 7 on the same machine.

Post us a shot of disk management, fully expanded, so we can advise.

Hi guys,
We all know that Windows 8.1 is a FREE update to Windows 8 OS. Recently my teacher's Toshiba Satellite Laptop shipped with Windows 8 Single Language, is very slow, so she wanted me, to do a clean install to get rid of bloatware. And also, we all know that Microsoft released a tool that downloads an installation media of Windows 8.1. So here's my questions:
1. Will Windows 8.1 activate with a OEM key embedded in the BIOS?

2. If I install Windows 8.1 does it automatically activate it without Internet?

A:Activation in Clean install Windows 8.1 on a Windows 8 PC

1. Will Windows 8.1 activate with a OEM key embedded in the BIOS?

- Yes - if you install Windows 8.1 Single Language (it contains an ei.cfg file that bypasses an installation key)

2. If I install Windows 8.1 does it automatically activate it without Internet?

- No. it needs online activation.

Hi,

I have over 120 clients running Windows 7 Enterprise in a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain. I am currently doing some testing around AppLocker, and generally locking down the user environment. I will soon be setting up some new Windows 7 clients with the users added as the Standard User type.

When a standard user attempts to install an application, the UAC prompt is displayed, which requests administrative credentials. Is there a way that I can approve/publish specific applications that the standard users can install themselves? If so, is there a way that the users can install updates for these approved applications themselves?

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

A:Windows 7 Enterprise - Allow standard user to install approved apps

You could, but that would require additional software. In a Windows world, this is generally accomplished by using System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 or other competing products (SCCM is the most featureful and integrated with the other MS products, of course, and is my personal preference for lifecycle management). There are products that can be installed on Windows that provide "silent elevation" of certain programs, but those are generally not advised as they open up that user session to security risks (admin code now running in a user session with the same user token - not a good idea).

Greetings,

An IT staff at a company where I have been working seems to be unable (or lazy enough) to install an English Language Pack on a French Version (a base installation) of Windows 7 Enterprise via Windows Updates.

When launching the update with English Language Pack selected all seems to work well til a certain moment of an installation.
The process is stopped with an error message and the update is not applied.

I cannot believe that the IT technician keeps assuring me that the operation is impossible to achieve.

I would appreciate any suggestion or advice leading me to manage to get the English Language Pack installed.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

We have purchased a Satellite Radius 12 P20W-C-106 to test for some specific users in our organisation. When I go boot to the Windows 10 installer (on USB) the resolution causes everything to be tiny (almost unreadable) and I get a message asking for drivers to be installed. Can someone help me by explaining which drivers are required and if there is any specific process I should follow to build this Laptop with Windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.10586 Build 10586

Many thanks in advance for any assistance and answers.

Can you open Device Manager?
If you supply the VEN and DEV numbers of the unresolved devices, we can google them to identify which device it is and find a driver for it.
Windows Update should find most of the drivers.

I built my gaming PC about a year or two ago, since then it's been my main computer, not just a gaming PC, and has gotten filled with useless junk I no longer need. The GPU has also started to crash quite a bit recently (ever since I installed the new driver).

So I plan to do a fresh install, the problem is, the product key for my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 disk has been used the max amount of times (all product keys have 3 uses (apparently), I used this one on my gaming PC, the new family PC, and then on my Macbook Pro (however, I ended up having to reinstall it to my Macbook as I was messing around with rEFIt trying to get Linux on there alongside OS X and Windows 7 and bricked the thing (luckilly there's that recovery hard drive on there, so I can still use OS X))).

Anyways; is there any way to do a fresh install with this disk despite they key being completely used up?

Hello Zukaro,

Is this a family pack copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, or just a normal retail full Windows 7 Home Premium copy?

Will it still only be installed on a total of only 3 computers and no other?

Windows and my hard drive started to die on me- started losing programs- like the calculator, and other things I had in my start menu. Then HD started making terrible noises. So I decided to install a new HD before it died completely. Had a friend try to use the recovery partition to get windows on the new drive but it says the second disk isn't the disk it's looking for. (IT made it!) He installed xp from a disk he had, but it won't activate for me- It was xp home & mine is xp media center- is that the problem? I'm afraid to ghost it because of the missing programs, do you think I could ghost the recovery onto the new drive? or the whole os - hoping it was just the faulty drive & not some bug? -- I really don't do much online that I would have picked up any bugs ... I have both HDs in the computer still so I could tranfer my pictures and other things. I just didn't feel comfortable messing with an install of os on my own.

The computer is a HP pavilion a1473w -originaly (still2.6GHz) , 1GB RAM & 200Gb seagate HD. I just installed 2GB RAM and the 1TB western dig. HD.

Am running an old dell for now. I work from home & needed to be up and running.

I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8, and I no longer have the key for 7. From Windows 8.1 I upgraded to 10. Recently got an SSD, wanted to do a fresh install on it. Used media creation tool to make a USB copy. Booted from USB, formatted old hard drive, and loaded Windows onto new SSD. I picked activate later as the product ID i wrote down did not seem to work; and assumed it would auto activate.

Well, now Windows is not activating, and I still cannot enter the Product ID, I assumed that would be the "key".

Is there anything I can do at this point? Or am I just screwed and have to buy a Windows 10 license?

...I knew I should have just cloned.

A:Did a fresh install of Windows 10 on a new SSD, no activation

Found a Windows 8 key in an email from the upgrade, and it accepted that. Please lock thread.

Unable to install Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Release Preview on RTM 8 Enterprise

Standalone installer available here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28972
fails with error code 0x80004005

Is this because my installation has issues, or would the admin pack files be updated for RTM?

Thank you in advance for any insight

A:Unable to install Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Release Preview on RTM 8 Enterprise

Found the solution here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/6d8745e0-c4c1-463a-b4bb-09f6c9c22527
Workaround:

Download the RSAT package intended for Windows 8 Release Preview: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28972Extract the .msu file with a tool such as 7-Zip.Open an Admin command prompt and change directory to where you extracted the .msu.Run the following command to install (if x86 you probably have a different .xml filename): pkgmgr /n:Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64.xmlWait a while. You can look in task manager for pkgmgr. When it disappears, the installation is done.Use the tools as per usual.

Yes.

Download the correct ISO from mydigitallife.info, burn it to a DVD, install, activate with your existing Product Key.

I started getting "Optional update delivery is not working" window with message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". Clicked "Go online and resolve now", installed Windows Activation Update, restarted, tried activating, got message "This product key could not be used", and code 0xC004C008.

I have the Windows 7 install disk, with its Certificate of Authenticity and product key, in front of me. I do not think it is counterfeit. The product key fragment in the report is the same as the product key on the install disk

I am hoping for some advice on interpreting the MGADiagTool report from y'all. This may be an easy one to call, perhaps related to being OEM instead of Retail. I don't know.

Thanks!

A:Windows 7 Activation fails, not counterfeit, have OEM install DVD

All that appears to be wrong is that you neglected to activate within the grace period.
Having said that, the Key should not be 'on the install disk' at all - it should only be on the COA sticker (which should be attached to the machine's case).

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

I currently have Windows 7 Home installed (the retail version, not OEM). I'm getting an SSD and would like to do a clean install on it. After that, I'll just clear my current hard drive and use it for programs.

My question is: Do I need to uninstall windows from my current drive first so there's no conflict with my activation code already being in use? Or does it not matter?

Thanks.

A:Windows 7 Activation code valid on re-install?

You should be able to simply replace your existing hard drive with the SSD and reinstall Windows 7. When the activation is prompted, you may be forced to call microsoft to activate your Windows 7 installation.

This is a simple phone call that takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

You do not need to uninstall Windows from your current drive.

Hope this helps,
