I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, 2 Days ago I received an nice P1. First thing I did was remove the SSD and put in a new Samsung Evo Plus 1TB. Then I installed the latest Debian testing on it. I have done this countless times with lots of laptops. However, this time I stumbled upon a roadblock I cannot seem to solve myself. The system will simply not boot from the new SSD. I do not even get up to Grub. The system will present me a selection menu, which shows the disk in question. But I cannot boot from it. I have tried to restore the bootloader with Boot Repair Disk and other tools. I even did it by hand. But to no avail. Boot info reports a successful restore, but I still cannot boot from this SSD. Booting from rescue disk and live images is no problem at all. If I do that I can mount the SSD just fine. But booting is a no go... Anyone encountered something similar? Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance! Grx Otchum

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad T450s last June. I wiped out the windows installation and installed Ubuntu and encrypted the drive for work. Now I want to return this PC to its original installation, with Windows 8.1 I think. There is no F11 option available in the BIOS so I probably wiped that out when I installed Ubuntu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I would take this to a Lenovo shop somewhere to get sorted, if that is possible... Thanks,k-rock

So here is the situation.I've got this great piece of hardware bound to a cruddy OS that no sane person should ever trust (an OS that uninstalls your privately owned and paid for software from other companies during updates potentially costing licensing fees to acquire a replacement license or even damaging system viability if one of those software packages is a driver, without any advance notice).  Sane reasonable people should never accept that as business as usual or acceptable.  Thus Windows 10 is unacceptable. Options:Windows 7 Downgrade (legally valid per the Windows 10 Pro license agreement):Issues for Windows 7 Pro install:No MediaNo License to enter even if one had media (none provided even though Windows 7 Downgrade is a supported item for Windows 10)CPU Support requires a hack to remove the FAKE incompatibility check MSFT put into Windows Update and Windows 7 to disallow usage on newer CPUs.  There are guides on how to disable this manually and have Windows 7 with Windows Updates work so not a real issue.  -- Pretty sleazy move on MSFT's part to disable Windows Update for Windows 7 useers running new CPUs on valid legally licensed copies (per MSFT's own agreements) to force Windows 10 usage. Linux:Install issues for Linux:Which Linux brand and version to use? Will all the features be fully supported? Sadly I cannot even begin to work on any of this due to:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Recovery-media-downloa... Hello Guys,

I've Linux Debian installed at my workstation. We are not allowed to remove it. But I would like to make the system dual-boot. Debian Lenny is already installed, How can I safely install Win7RC along with the Debian without losing any of the files/system/partition etc.

Thanks & Regards
Mukul

A:How to: Dual-boot Linux Debian and Win7RC

well get a live CD with a partition editer... .. maybe a knoppix live cd? or minipe live cd? even the freespire CD has gparted (actually works unlike other gparted aps)

You need to find something that will resize a partition...

first defrag your computer in debian,
boot into one of those CD's and go to resize your current partition, make it big enough for win7, and install win7,
than download easybcd or vistabootpro or something.
when your in win7 (because it will get rid of your debian boot option) you can run vistabootpro (my recomendation) and set up the boot. works well

or get a 2nd hard drive and do it that way....

or if you really know linux, restore gnome after the fact, and add win7 onto the boot list

Hello SevenForums, members and great administrators.

First, there is a lot forums and sections , so If posted in incorrect one please move it.

Second,

I want to Dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Linux Mint (or maybe Debian). I know , with Ubuntu is very easy, but I hate it That is because, low driver support , bad name , bad look and much other.

Questions :
1. How to do it ?
2. What I need ?
3. Do I need empty DVD or Windows 7 Installation DVD (because I lost this one) ?

I'm currently using LMint in VM , but I need it on my current machine , Dual-boot with Win7. And I will delete Win8 for this.

Answer when you can.
Thanks in advance.

A:Dual-booting Windows 7 Ultimate and Linux Mint (or Debian)

Hi Trinity -

Be sure to make a Win7 System Repair Disk for rescue purposes if you dont' have the installer.

GRUB boot loader can corrupt Win7 beyond repair when on the same HD, so be sure to also save externally a Win7 backup image: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

The cleanest method to avoid GRUB corruption of Win7 is given here by our moderator: Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7

That shouldn't happen if they will just do it from the flaw, and as a team; its must be fairly treated on how to handle those situation especially their OS contains major issues and bugs that should be fix instead of arguing.

Still many users can choose on all hundreds of derivatives that are fully active in development.

Well I am following the steps on this page: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=2016&page=2 to install Debian on my Windows XP. I have used Parition Magic to create a partition just for Debian. I have the ISO files I have downloaded here: http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ both on the Debian partition AND a CD.

However I have learned that I need to boot from the CD. I have searched many times and cannot figure out to boot from the CD. Can someone please help me on this one? I would be VERY grateful. Thank you.

You will need to go into your BIOS settings and set the boot order to boot from CD. Then reboot, make sure the CD is in the drive and away you go.

As I understand, hardware fde works by using a media encryption key that is stored in the disc controller.  Access to this key is controlled by a key encryption key which the user should be able to set.  (Without setting this key, fde is pointless as the drive will boot without any user intervention). How does one set the key encryption key on the T450S?  And can it be configured so the key has to be re-entered after the wakes from sleep or hibernation, as well as at boot time. Thanks,

Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? Google and I'm running out of ideas..

And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub

I recently bought a Thinkpad T450s with the default TN 1600x900 screen. The screen was not bright enough to use it outside, so I decided to buy a replacement IPS 1920x1080 screen on Ebay and install it myself. I ordered this screen, which was supposed to be an LG LP140WF3SPD1 with the max brightness of 300 nits, but the seller sent an Innolux N140HCE-EAA, which only has a max brightness of 250 nits. Needless to say I am disgusted with the deceptive advertising of the seller "laptop_screen" so I want to alert anyone else who is shopping for a replacement screen to avoid this seller on Ebay. Apart from that, I want to let everyone know that the Innolux N140HCE-EAA screen will work in the T450s and the viewing angles are good. I don't have enough experience to be able to say whether the color quality is good or not, but I can tell that the screen isn't very bright. In Windows, the N140HCE-EAA does not allow me to change the brightness of the screen, because the data in the screen's EDID does not match what the laptop expects.  I have read online that this problem also occurs when installing the LG LP140WF3SPD1 in a T450s that originally had a TN 1600x900 screen, so this isn't a problem with the N140HCE-EAA part. In Linux I can adjust the screen brightness since Linux ignores the EDID data when setting the brightness. Since I use Linux, I have no problems, but this is a problem for Windows users. I have not tried to overwrite the EDID data, so I don't know whether the ED... Read more

Hi Senyo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue with your display in T450s.
Looks like you have a bad LCD panel & it needs to be changed so better contact Lenovo & replace under warranty.
Also you can try moving the LCD lid at certain angle whether display is coming or not.

I hope the above information helps.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

So i bought the laptop 14 months ago and it is now out of warranty. I've just started to get "Kernel security check failure", "driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations" and "unexpected kernel mode trap" errors.  the computer will then just restart itself.  any ideas on what i need to do?  thanks in advance.

Hi, my thinkpad's thinklight doesn't seem to be working after replacing the ssd and reinstalling windows. I have already used System Update and Lenovo Vantage to download the drivers, and even reinstalled the hotkey drivers but it doesn't seem to detect my thinklight. I was previously on a Lenovo Signature Edition before, but something messed up when I was cloning the drive so I just decided to reinstall Windows 10 Pro. I used to have three options when clicking Fn+Spacebar, (dim backlight, high backlight then thinklight) but now I only have the two backlight options. I also tried to use TPFanControl to enable the ThinkLight but it just triggers a 0 battery level warning making the computer shutdown unexpectedly. Any suggestions to get my ThinkLight back?
