I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello combat,
1, Does Vista recognise the joystick ?. Go to > Control Panel > Game Controllers, and see if it is there.

I have a MS Sidewinder Pro 2USB joystick which I haven't used in years. Been sitting in a closet. But the new game called H.A.W.X. is coming out and I've been playing the demo.

At first, the joystick refused to be recongized by my system. (stats below) which is an Intel system. Either from the front or rear USB ports. If I plug the joystick into another computer here (AMD system) it is seen and works.

I've tried several times and have located the drivers on the internet. But when I plug in the joystick into either computer - its like the joystick is dead. Nothing shows up. No errors or anything - nada.

At one point, it did show up for a while on my intel computer (after I installed the drivers)... but as of now, nothing. The joystick looks as good as new. Its one of the better things made by MS in design in terms of function and feel. There is NOTHING on the market that compared to these old 2001~2004 joysticks.

From what I can see with google, the USB connection seems to die on these things. So I am guessing I'm going to have to buy a joystick.

I've looked at whats left on the market that I can buy.
Saitek: While customizable, these are flimsy - the trigger button is not comfortable... and breaks easily since I've owned one before I bought the sidewinder. Fairly low cost at about $20~25.

Logitech: Better feel, a bit large. Same design from 2003ish. Problem from reviews is that that they seem to stop functioning, even if stored for months... Read more

I am having a problem with my Sidewinder 2 using a USB port. When I first turn my computer on, the computer cannot see the joystick. If I unplug and then reconnect the joystick, Windows XP (Home Edition) will see it and it will be functional. Everything is OK until I turn the computer off. When it is booted back up again, the joystick will have to be unplugged and reconnected again to make it work. It has to be disconnected and reconnected each time after reboot to make it functional. Can't find drivers for the joystick at Microsoft, so i assume they are built into Windows XP. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you still having this problem? If so, the joystick is not supported by Microsoft anymore, and nor is Windows 98, so they're no good to search in.

However, is it a USB one? If so, are there any other slots you can test this in?

This may seem like a stupid question, but have you installed the software for the controller. If you have, there's a small green switch on the back where the connection cable enters. Change it to the other position, then back and try it again.

Good Luck!

I recently built myself a gaming computer, I then decided to hook up my old Microsoft Sidewinder joystick to play some flight simulators; upon doing this my computer failed to recognize the device. What could be a cause of this?

A:Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick Problems

if your joystick is usb plug n play then it should have found it. if not usb and plugs into a sound card then you will have to load the driver cd. only other thing could be that the usb cable end is bad or the stick itself. you might try a restart but I doubt that would make a difference on usb. bottom line sticks are cheap. Logitech extreme 3d pro can be had for $25.00 dollars just about anywhere.

I got this joystick installed first time in win98se and checked it in
Gaming Options and found out that buttons 2 and 6 werent working, so I went to Device Manager and removed the USB Human Interface Device and tried to reinstall it, at hardware install dialog I went for "Display List of Devices" and there were 2 versions of USB Human Interface Devices there [4-23-1999] and [some-2002], so I used the latest one and voila , all buttons worked nice. After a couple of days I can make
use on button 2 (secondary fire) in the game, I check up the gaming options control panel and in Side Winder Joystick properties the buttons 2 and 6 didnt work again. I tried to reinstall like 20 times and never got it right again.
Also in Device manager, there under "Sound, video and game controllers" a new control is placed "HID
compilant game controller" , I tried to tweak it, changing version but it dont make any diff neither.

I have an old puter AMD 450MHz , 256MB CL2 RAM, TNT2U 32MB, Epox MPV3-G2 mobo, all drivers installed 4in1, video , audio and such. No apparent porblems beside this one. Geez I ve only managed toplay a

I still have my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback peripherals (joystick and wheel). Both are the later USB revisions. They worked to perfection on Windows 7 (just plug and play) but do they work/get recognised by Windows 10?

The way my machine is setup it will be quite an undertaking running the wires etc in and around the desktop and cramped desk space so I'd like to be confident they would still work

does anyone still use these peripherals or similar types? I found it dissapointing MS turned its back on the sidewinder products. Have never been able to get to grips with game pads really. Playing a driving game or flight sim with a game pad just feels unnatural.

If it worked on 7, it likely will work in 10, you may have to reinstall drivers, but in all likely hood the upgrade should be fine.

I came across an excellent flight simulator (Flight Gear) that makes me want to take the old M/S joystick out of moth balls. Trouble is when I hooked it up, it apparently does not know Windows 7 x64bit from apple butter!
I have a USB adapter that shares a USB2 with a 15 pin game port; so obviously they both function as USB2 ports. The old joystick has a 15 pin plug on it and attaches to this connector, but nothing happens. The machine does not recognize it.
Can this 15 pin game port connection function connected through a USB2 to the Motherboard? Can settings be made to tell the machine that it is there or will the Microsoft sidewinder force feedback joystick just not function in that lash-up?
Trying to load the factory included programs/drivers fails because it will not allow Windows 7 to load them. If this type of connection will not function, is there some kind of a card I could get to make it function? And it that is available how does one go about getting a driver that will function with a W-7 x64bit system.
Lots of questions; LOTS of thanks!

Either a third-party program is scanning for viruses, Microsoft's anti-spyware program is scanning, Vista is optimizing the swap file, Vista is repairing something, or (most likely) Vista is updating some software that was previously downloaded.

This start up issue was partially fixes with SP1.

I have a 6yr old Microtek 4900 scanner that works fine with XP Os. My new Vista PC has asked to reload the drive from the CD that came with the scanner. Did that to no avail. I even got the latest driver from Microtek with the same result.. Microtek just sent me an e-mail saying that ther will never be a Vista driver for the 4900.

Seems as if this makes no sense. Are drivers all that hard when you allready have one that works with XP? Is changing to Vista that hard? I have an 18 year old HP IIP printer that ran under three version of DOS (IBM & Microsoft) and when I went to XP there was no problem. When I went to Vista, my new PC did not have a parrallel port comector. I got a USB to Parallel cable for ten bucks and Vista saw the printer and had no problem.

A friend of mine is looking to buy the above board since he's planning on using his AGP card for a while longer and hopes to later upgrade to an 8600GT or so. Has anyone who owns or has owned this board have any problems or issues with it? Also, do you think the 8600GT will be bottlenecked by the 4x PCI-E slot on the board?

A:Does anyone here own an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA?

Yes I had one for about 6 months, until a series of power outages damaged the on-board NIC, and the PS2 keyboard port failed. The board is large and the bios are a bit weak. I would say yes to the "do you think the 8600GT will be bottlenecked by the 4x PCI-E slot on the board?" question... For basic use, the board worked. For advanced gaming and multitasking the board sucks... My ABIT IP35P is much better. Of course I purchased a PCI-e XFX Gforce 8600 to go with the new ABIT board

Hi guys,
I am driving crazy.

I am running a small home network.
My DSL WLAN router Zyxel Prestige 660HW-67 acts also as a 4-Port switch with 100 Mbits/s.
Attached to this router are
1. Vista Business x86 SP1 with RTL8139/810x-Family onboard
2. Dell T105 server running Windows Home Server SP2 (Windows 2003)
3. Windows XP SP3 using WLAN

The Vista PC will transfer data to WHS or XP with very low bandwidth (150 kbits/s)
The other way round will work with more than 10 Mbits/s from the WHS.

Transfering data betwee WHS and XP will work fine in bot directions.

So it looks like Vista is blocking outbound traffic.

The Vista PC also runs F-Secure Internet Security 2009.
But te firewall allows all traffic in my home domain (mask

I uninstalled the network adapter, installed the newest driver from Realtek but no change in the low outbound traffic.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

A:Vsta network issue?

Excellent problem description!

Technically, it's not "blocking outbound traffic" since the transfer still works, albeit very slowly. Your matrix testing does seem to point the finger of blame at the Vista machine, and it also reveals an assymmetric behaviour - in is fast, out is slow.

I'd be fairly surprised if the cause didn't come down to a filter driver installed on the Vista machine.

If you boot Vista to [safe mode + net] are all transfers then as fast as expected - in both directions?

i need help,
my asrock 4core dx90-VSTA is not booting up.

i recently installed a intel pentium dual core e2200 on the board plus 1 gig of memory.
could this be a power supply failure cuz when the board boots (once in a while) and i go into bios it sometimes freezes there.

if bios works, it moves slow, i am wondering if this is because i updated my bios cuz i noticed this after i updated it. i wonder if i downgrade it to 1.30 if it would work better cuz that is the lowest version that supports the processor.

i am confident that my processor and memory is working fine cuz when the board decides to boot i can use vista efficiently and play unreal tournament 3 on high settings. i had a celeron d 3.06 before i upgraded to the dual core cpu.

i also notice when i reset the bios jumper, it overclocked my cpu to 2.93 ghz and the system would keep on restarting so i manually set the clock back to the stock 2.2 ghz, i found this wierd because it overclocked by it self.

the stuff in my rig now are: pentium dual core e2200, 1.5 gig ddr 333 mem, 1X 160 gig Sata, 2x 40 gig eide, samsung dvd burner dl, 512mb xfx geforce 8500 gt @ 500mhz/400mhz, 500 watt psu

I have included 3 images of the setup, I had to take the mainboard out of the case to make it easier for me to see everything and change things around. If you need specific pics of the setup just let me know.

I can only think it is the mainboard as I have eliminated everything else. I will try with a different Monitor and output connection DVI instead of Analog.

Well, I decided to build myself a computer that's going to last me. I got a motherboard from a friend, I have an Orion 585w PSU, a Q6600 quad core @ 2.4gHz, and up until a few weeks ago, I was using an 8600 gt 256. I was having no issues whatsoever with that card. I just bought a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850, and suddenly my games do not work. They just crash my card and require a hard restart to fix. I managed to get the computer stable enough to run windows XP SP3 well enough, and I can still watch movies, go online, listen to music, look at pictures...etc. I just can't play games.

The only exception to that is Garry's Mod. None of my other source games work, or any others, such as Crysis, Stalker Clear Sky, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, World in Conflict...not even the Hoyle Board games (my grandmother got it for me. Chess is fun, though haha)

I've been told that my mobo is to blame, but I dont see how that could be if it worked fine before the card. I sent the card in for replacement from Newegg, but the new card still has the same issues. It was then suggested that it was the PSU, but I don't know how to test that.

Any ideas? I havn't been able to use my computer the way I want to for like 2 weeks! Help me!

A:Asrock 4Core Dual-VSTA

Make sure that all of your previous graphics drivers are wiped from the system. Download and run Driver Cleaner to purge the existing drivers and then install the Catalyst drivers afterward. If you still have problems, try reinstalling the chipset drivers. Also, the HD4800 series cards run really hot out of the box, which might be why the system is crashing. To raise the fan speed, download RivaTuner or make a custom profile for Catalyst Control Center. Set the fan to ~60% and try running a game.

So my little sister wanted a PC "just to surf the net" instead of wasting money on a new PC i decided to bring my old one to life. Biggest issue is that it has only 512 mb ram, so i want to improve that.

MotherBoard on this PC is 775xfire-vsta, in its documentation (and here http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/775xfire-vsta/) it says it supports DDR 2-533. I recently installed vista 64bit on a new computer which has this motherboard, it seems it is a common problem that the onboard LAN does not work, I managed to solve this and for anyone who has the same problem here is how..

Step1: Check MAC address.

When system boot up, press "F2" to enter BIOS setting.

Boot-> "Boot settings Configuration" -> set "Boot From Onboard LAN" to "enable".

Press "F10". System will restart.

Please "F11" and select "NVIDIA Boot Agent".

Then you will see MAC address, pls. record it with no space for later usage.

Step2: Boot system into Window Vista

Right click "Computer" and click "Properties"

Step3: Click "Device Manager"

Step4:Click "Continue"

Step5.Right click "Networking Controller" and click "Properties".

Step6: Choose "Network Address" in "Advanced " folder.

Write "MAC Address" which got from step1 into Value item.

Then click "OK".

That should do it, but make sure your IPv4 is set to obtain an ip address automatically, by going into "network and sharing center" "view status" "properties" IPv4" "properties" and check obtain IP address automatically.

Hi - thanks for taking time to read... I really need your expertise...

I'm building my first computer... I purchased the Asrock 775 Dual Vsta mobo... an intel Pentium D 805 cpu... I bought 2 gigs of DDR2 corsair memory to go in it... I have a Logisys yin and yang case, and a 520 watt psu...

I installed the mobo... a GeForce FX 5500 AGP card.... the memory... cpu... I tried connecting the front system panel header wires to the mobo... i am not confident that it was done correctly. The PLED + and - didn't match up... my case has a 3 pin... mobo has 2. I moved the wire over one and plugged it up. I didn't have any other problems connecting the rest of the system panel header wires - they matched up perfectly i think.

I also connected the front usb cables... red, white, green, and then black... my manual says they should be connected as follows: usb pwr, p-7, p+7, gnd, dummy...

I should mention I took the HD from my old case and put it in the new sys to see what would happen.

Now for the problems. First... the power button does not work. The reset button does work - when pressed... the front led lights come on.... the green one like clockwork... the blue light is iffy... sometimes it comes right away... sometimes it hesitates... sometimes it flickers on then off.

With the old HD in it... the monitor came on... and a blinking cursor showed up... nothing more. I thought I probably needed to get a new HD... and didn't want to ri... Read more

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, so if i forget to mention something let me know.
I'm running on an ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA mainboard with an Nvidia GeForce 6800 video card and I just installed Windows 7 Pro x86.
It's running fine, except I get graphic errors during the login/boot screen, then again when the UAC dialouge pops up and during shutdown screen as well.
ASRock has no chipset drivers for Windows 7, just for Vista. Except that I'm running all the latest drivers for my System.

So can someone please help me figure out what's causing these graphic errors? I'm stuck and if I don't solve this I'll have to go back to using XP :/

EDIT: So I found out that Chipset drivers for VIA aren't available because they are already Integrated into Windows 7. I also added some screenshots of said Errors, one of them is actually during Windows 7 installation process.

I have a new computer with Win98SE installed.
I downloaded and installed the updated driver from Microsoft(v3.02) for my Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro. Upon attempting to configure the Sidewinder the "game controller" continues to inform me that the device is not connected, even though it is connected.

Please advise as to what I am missing or what I need to do to convince the game controller that the device is indeed connected, etc.

AT this time the controller ID assignment is #1, however even if I change it the computer still does not recognize that the device is connected.

Thank you.
