Suggested Training for Servers

Q: Suggested Training for Servers

Hi All

I currently work for a mid-sized company that is at a crossroad. The company has used Linux based applications for a number of years which has worked fine for their servers, security, etc. (The desktops have Windows 7). I'm seeing more growth potential with the company and wanted to be ready when the time comes to upgrade the current infrastructure.

So, I have the opportunity to attend some sort of training to help plan for the future and wanted to see what you guys suggest. I'm looking at training for Windows Server, VMWare, or Linux training). I'm looking mainly at providing a better security environment for the company. What do you guys suggest

Thanks for any input

Preferred Solution: Suggested Training for Servers

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

A: Suggested Training for Servers

If the company is Linux based then I would probably focus on Linux training until I knew Microsoft server skill would be needed.

I personally took the Microsoft Official Courses (MOC) in a class room setting, then went to a certification boot camp for 15 days. The boot camps are focused on getting you certified more than making sure you learn everything but you can't help but learn. Having done the courses before hand made boot camp easier but it was still the hardest 15 days I ever spent.

You need to pick one of your options to focus on and see what training is available in your local area. Also be aware the of the 'cloud', if the company goes that direction skills different from 'server' will be needed.

I am looking to get online VBA training. Are there any recommendations for the best training offered? I don't have time during the day to get classroom training so this is the next best option.

A:VBA Training

VBA is a great tool. I use it for tons of things. Here are a couple of links. I've never used the tutorials as training but often refer to them for syntax or ideas on how to approach a project. Another idea would be to follow threads on TSG that have VB questions.

While VBA and VB script are not the same thing most functions of vbscript run in VBA . VB script would offer you a playground where you could work on learning the vb code without the 'overhead' of attaching it to access (just a thought).

http://www.everythingaccess.com/tutorials.asp -vba and modules
http://www.visualbasicscript.com/ - this is a forum but does have tutorial thread I've never read.
http://www.devguru.com/technologies/vbscript/home.asp - great reference for syntax
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter - heyscripting guy used to be one of my favorite places to learn, they are now focused on Power Shell but still lots of VB info here.

http://www.w3schools.com/vbscript/default.asp - this is an interactive site. lets you run and modify code online.
http://allenbrowne.com/tips.html - Allen Browne knows more about access than we ever will.

I am in need of some C# and .NET training. My company has some budget money that would allow for a training course, such as a 2 or 3 day course or some online training. I have found some websites but can anyone give some recommendation of good C# .NET training, either a training course in a city or a good online training course? Thanks!

A:C# .net training

In my opinion, the best way is buy some books and then practise the concept in these books. If you have any problems, you can find many forums on the net that you can post your questions for free (eg, techguy forum...). You may download some works of other programmers in pscode.com to learn the way they program. Practice, practice, and practice is the formula to go
Good luck!

I am thinking of furthering myself in the future in the IT field by doing something involving system maintenance, repair, config, networking etc.

Obviously I am only an amateur, but my boss has approached me about sourcing some information on training for a member of our company to go on, that would qualify them to install, repair, upgrade, configure, network etc etc internally both hardware and software.

I am the most elegible at present so correct me if im wrong, but I was looking at Cisco/MCSE/CompTIA A+???

I live in N.Ireland

Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated.

A:training to use Combofix?

Please note the message text in blue at the top of the Am I infected? What do I do? forum. No one should be using ComboFix unless specifically instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert who can interpret the logs. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert. Today was the first day of my MCSE training. I must say that I felt out of place when I found out that everyone else in class had a "real job" while I on the other hand am still in school. The others were probably wondering what business I had taking an MCSE course.

Four hours sitting in that one room was so painful. Hopefully, tomorrow would be more interesting. If I keep up, I should be able to get my certification by next spring.

For those of you who have taken MCSE, do you have to pay for the 5 mandatory exams? Also, did you have to buy any books. My instructor just gave us a burned CD and he said a book is not mandatory but he suggested getting one.

A:first day of MCSE training

Get ready for many more painful days in there erwin - I thought I was gonna die when I was in my NT4 track. The next time I skipped the classes and did self study for the 2000 track - I recently completed it, and I would say that the books are not mandatory, but definitely a good idea. The Exam Cram and Exam Prep books from Coriolis are pretty effective. I did the same thing to complete my MCSA as well.

P.S. - Make sure you plan your electives so that it completes as many requirements for different certifications as you can. For example, if one of your electives is 70-218 you will get your MCSA by the time you finish your MCSE. Also, if you take SQL server (228) then you will be one step from MCDBA when you finish your MCSE.

I was wondering what it would take to be accepted into formal training for ComboFix and malware removal. I work for a university at a help desk where we help students repair their computers for free (small fee included with tuition). We go through over 3,000 computers a semester in our Walk-In along with several thousand phone calls and in hall appointments. This would be a great opportunity to bring back knowledge to our office and improve our student workers abilities.

I am a new technician with a job in repair and malware removal. I really like the tools I find here at Bleeping Computer and use them daily. I want to sign up for the training, so this is a post to get me started. One of my initial questions is, how do I get ComboFix to scan an external drive. I often find that I have to remove a drive from the computer and scan it down using one of my desktops. When all else fails and I need complete removal, I try combofix. But I have to replace the drive and run the tool in the original computer. That can be tricky when all I'm trying to do is recover files that the customer needs and the original OS is inoperable. Combo Fix and Unhide can make this possible. If anyone has other ideas for data recovery from dead or badly infected computers, I am all ears.

I wasn't sure if this should be hardware or software...

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to have training PCs reset after use.

Have a class come in and do their stuff like saving files and changing homepages...whatever...and then when the class is over have some way to set the PC back to it's original configuration.

I don't know if there is software that might do this or a USB drive that could be inserted or something along those lines.

Does anyone else have training labs where they do this kind of thing?

A:Reset a training lab PC after use

There are products to do this very thing, but the names escape me right now. I'm sure someone will be along soon with the name of a product.

I know my daughter does this at the Harvard Business School, but they have a centeralized server that returns all the machines to a standard configuration every time one of the classes leaves.

If you want to do it on a limited basis, imageing utilities like Acronis True Image would do the trick, but for a number of machines, I'm sure there are better options.

A:DQS training failed......

DQS training is generally used in overclocking memory modules and isn`t needed for run-of-the-mill computers to boot up, especially if they`ve been working fine previously.

Enter BIOS (or Setup) by pressing F1, F2 or DEL whichever applies to your machine and look through the menu, probably under an Advanced page or tab for the DQS settings and if it`s got an Auto or Default option, choose that. If it has a seperate choice for DQS training to be switched on or off, make sure it`s off.

I used to be a bit of a demon on a PC using Excel 2003. I even dabbled in a bit of Visual Basic and got some quite swanky reports going.
Move forward 10 years and I have a Mac at work (don't find Excel very good on this) and at home work on a Windows laptop with the dreaded Excel 2010, which I have never liked and therefore rarely use.
Fortunately I also have access to an old PC which still has Excel 2003 on it, and being the geriatric I am, I tend to do most of my Excel work on that. The problem is that everyone else at work is on a Mac, and the Excel files generated on the PC don't work (formulas and macros) when emailed to the Macs.
So now I have decided I need to update my Excel files and get them working on the Macs.
As part of this, I need to get up to speed on VB.Net.
Do you have any advice on a good way to grasp the basics so that I can start playing around?
Any advice welcome.

MS office applications such as Access and Excel, while also learning
how to write some login scripts using VBS. The only option as far as
company paid training that I have locally is an introduction class to

Newbie here...

I bought a training course with videos on it that is on a CD and can only be played on a PC. Windows Media Player is able to play the CD and I can go through the courses via mouse clicks. I have attached some screenshots of the entire contents of the CD.

I would like to convert or burn this into a DVD and be able to play it on my DVD player. If this is not possible then I don't mind burning just the .wmv files into DVD. However, when I tried doing it using Roxio DVD Creator for some reason it is telling me that I need over 10 DVDs (or something) to burn the entire videos. I know it can't be the file size so I am guessing maybe DVDs have a limit to how long the videos are that you can burn??? The videos on this CD takes several hours so I tried burning just a couple of the .wmv files into DVD. Hence, it won't play on my DVD player. =(

Are there any software, tools, converters, or things I can do so I can watch them on a regular DVD player?

A:Suggested Hjt Log

Hello healing41 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Fragmentation isn't really a malware issue. It is just a natural occurance that happens over time. XP has a built-in defragmenter and there are many 3rd party disk-defragmenters. It is good to defragment a drive occasionally but unless the disk is heavily fragmented and the free disk space is less than about 10% of the drive there will probably not be a noticible performance improvement. The 2 files that will have the biggest impact from fragmentation are the swap file and the Master File Table which can only be defragmented with 3rd party defragers. NTFS file systems handle file fragmentation better than the old FAT system found on older operating systems like Win98 so an acasional defrag with the built-in XP utility should be Ok.

Hi there
I am not generally a person that gets on a forum just to have a winge.....BUT I am right royally P'd off with Microsoft and Microsoft resellers especially.
My old computer died and wasn't worth spending the money fixing or upgrading it, so, off I go and buy a brand spanking new computer. HHHHmmm, one gets NO choice as to the operating system that comes with a new computer these days, windows 7 or nothing.
Gripe #1 - Microsoft resellers:
Lack of training by resellers to their staff. Perhaps it would be a good idea to train staff in advising customers that when you buy a new computer that comes preinstalled with window7 64bit means not being able to run any of your old 32bit software/hardware. I wonder at how many non technical computer customers have had to go out and buy new printers/scanners/software, thus adding to the cost of buying a new computer. People like myself who are fairly computer literate go down the road of downloading XP mode and creating virtual pc (which I truly believe caused my computer crash) of course having to upgrade from win7 home premium to win7 professional too ($200.00).

Why develop an operating system that creates confusion for the average/ordinary computer users? Once upon a time you always got the OS disk in the box, does Microsoft have no say with companies like Acer or HP etc as to insisting this still takes place....I suppose it all comes down to the almighty $ & company profits etc

Windows 7 64 bit can and will run most 32 bit programs and software. Drivers for some hardware can be a problem though on a 64 bit OS. I've had no problems running the programs I used in windows XP on my Windows 7 x64 PC.

Well I don't know how to remove it, my google searches:

"remove microsoft interactive training"

"uninstall microsoft interactive training"

"get rid of microsoft interactive training"

For most of my results, I just got pages saying that microsoft interactive training, if used, can be a potential risk. (Remote Code Execution)

And so I'm like.. WHATEVER... HOW DO I REMOVE IT?

So you guys are my last resort... oh and by the way , it is NOT in add/remove programs.

I am wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase an IR / RF transmitter that relays to a USB reciever to a computer. I would be looking for a group of 30 that can be used simultaneously in a training session, each with a unique ID number. To give a mental picture of the use/need:

Imagine 30 individuals sitting in a room watching a training program run through SQL programming. A multiple choice question comes up, and each individual responds with thier answer. Individual 1 has remote #1, and he logs A. Individual #2 has remote #2, and she logs B. The signals are recieved by a computer running Windows version XP or later, and when all individuals have answered the program moves on, giving the correct answer.

One of my constituents has programmed this style of program, however we are looking for remotes to make it work. A picture of a similar device has been attached to this message.

We are at a loss trying to find a distributor of similar devices, or a company that is able to fashion custom devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard that you have a training program for your security mods (haven't heard much about the particulars). Would this be a program that interested persons, like myself, could take and learn more about PC security (especially around HJT logs)?

I'd really like to learn more so that I can help more people. I do help with another forum and my neighbors. Actually, I help my neighbors and fellow church members than I do anywhere else. The intent would not be to "take" traffic that would otherwise be here, but I would guess that you have to take that in account, too.

Anyway, I'm especially interested in learning more about security. Thanks.

I need to log training activitys in my store using Excel but the problem is that all the Colleages + Courses etc change so I would like the Log sheet to change automatically

What I would like is when you add extra names to the colleagues list it shift the cells and creates boxes for those new colleages and puts them in the right place (when you add them to the correct sheet)

Would also like the same to be done when you add courses to the lists and again if you add a catergory for the training courses. The new Catergorys would need a Thick Line box around it as per examples

The boxes would need to stay blank when they have not done the course and if you put in a "Y" or "1" they turn green and a Tick appears in the boxes.

Anyone willing to help? hopefully you get the idea of what im trying to create

Ideally needs to work with both 2003 + 2007 but definatly needs to be 2003

I am trying to find a software (ideally web based) which can be used for a Training Center which offers different types of courses. Can someone help me find some good softwares for this. I did try google but was unable to find anything.

Below are some of the features that right away come to mind (just listing what's coming to mind). Am sure that as I spend more time, I will be able to think of many more desired features/functionality:
People should be able to view the courses offered
Register for courses
Give Feedback for courses
Training Center Administrator should be able to add/update courses (along with details about courses, details about faculty, course fee, course duration, course timings)
A module for managing faculty profile
A module for managing courses offered
A module for reports
Compile feedback received from people who attended courses
Compile feedback about Instructor (from different people who attended the courses by that Instructor)
etc. etc.
Thank you.

Hi all,

Firstly appologies if this is in the wrong forum, I could'nt find a appropriate place.

A quick question a friend of mine wanted to train to get some qualifications to get qualified as a IT engineer or such. And I think foolishly he came across a advertisement on the net offering the world, they will train you up with full Microsoft certification with guarenteed employment afterwards. He has to pay 4000 just for CD-Roms teaching him, (as he is doing it at home). I don't know why but I think he will have to pay more to take the exams.

Myself I have gone to a local college enrolled and begin a course early next month CompTIA A+ (cisco) for the sum of 190 with part 1 exam free + 75 for part 2, Oh almost forgot plus 10 student parking fees.

Just as a matter of interest who do you think has made the best choice.
