I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I adjusted the partitions of my lenovo g480 and accidentally deleted the hidden partitions. I restarted and the laptop just boots up with a blank screen. I tried pressing the novo button and the selection menu shows up. Whatever I select on the popup (normal startup, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery), nothing happens; and all I'm left is a blank screen. I tried connecting the laptop into an external display and still nothing shows up in the external display. I tried removing the battery and the 30s power button pressing, and it didn't work. Need this laptop for work. Hard disk when used in another computer the files are still there.

A:Lenovo laptop not booting up (G480)

hi RZPogi,

After removing the AC adapter, battery, and HDD, can you try to hold the power button for 20secs to remove residual power again on the machine. When finished, plug the AC adapter only then power up the machine and try accessing the BIOS via the F2 key or Novo button..

If successful, hit F9 to load defaults and hit F10 to save and exit. On another machine, connect the HDD and  backup your files then format it. When finished, put back the HDD on the G480 and boot from a Win7 installer via the F12 key to reinstall Windows 7.

Guide:
How to Create a Bootable Windows 7 Installation USB Flash Drive
How to Create a Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc

Note:
if the G480 came preloaded with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, reinstalling this same OS will automatically find the product key that's embedded in the motherboard and will activate your copy of Windows.

If the above steps doesn't help then there's likely a problem with the BIOS and needs to be reflashed. I would recommend you check these authorized service centers and report the issue:

I tried booting up my laptop this morning but all it's doing is flashing the Lenovo logo, powering down and repeating the process. I can hear the fan starting up and shutting off as well. I did a bit of research and found that this is a common problem and I tried the potential solutions but so far nothing has worked. I tried starting in safe mode, opening task manager and just pressing the power button to turn it off but it's not responding to any of the commands. When ever I remove the battery, unplug the power cord and hold the button for 30 seconds and put the battery back it in just resumes the loop without me even pressing the power button. When I close my laptop it seems like it's shutdown (no sleep light or noises from the fan) It was working fine all day yesterday there was a bit of a power outage while it was plugged into the outlet but it was still working without an issue Should I just let it run until the battery runs out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey guys, windows 7 unit which the owner says he suspects has virus but he also told me that his company checked for viruses but did not locate any, I ran a few virus scans but those did not produce anything. Symptoms are when I boot, it sometimes goes to windows but takes a long time and just doesn't get to the desktop, it is hanging after the logon screen. In safe mode it goes to desktop in normal time and laptop functions as normal, any ideas why it works as normal only in safe mode but can't reach the desktop in normal mode please?.

Some program or startup is causing the slowdown. You can do a clean boot and from there add services until you find the one causing the problem. It would be a good idea to disable your startup items also.

Hello, My parents have owned a Lenovo laptop for a couple of years now. However, recently this issue showed up and I wondered whether there is a chance there is a solution to this problem which I could try myself, since the laptop its warranty already expired. If I recall correctly, the model of the laptop is the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2, running Windows 10. So here is the issue; the laptop has issues turning on. Oddly enough, it is not a very consistent issue. Eventually, the laptop does turn on. The problem is that this sometimes takes hours, other times the laptop appears to be able to boot instantly as it normally would. I have no idea what affects this. When pressing the power button, the keyboard backlight starts flashing. It does this until the laptop completely boots, and as I said, the amount of time this takes varies. I already tried looking for solutions on different forums, but they usually concern the issue where the keyboard backlight flashed and the laptop simply will not boot at all, which is not the case here, as it eventually does but often it takes a while.Other solutions suggested a certain amount of flashes meant a certain issue or failure. Problem here is that the amount of flashes seem to be random, so it is not as if it just keeps looping a certain amount of flashes as it varies. This leaves me puzzled as to what could be the culprit. I am not sure what to do, especially since I have not owned a Windows-based machine in a whi... Read more

Hello everyone. I've been given a Lenovo Z570 laptop with little background information other than the fact that it refuses to boot. A clean install is not an option at this point due to the personal information on the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it displays the Lenovo sign, then boots into a screen that says Windows Error Recovery. I've been working through the troubleshooting guide here with little to no luck. Here is what I encountered on each step:

1. Using "Last Known Good Configuration" results in a black screen that does not go away or change.

2. Using "Repair your computer" under Advanced Boot Options leads to a black screen. If I try using a Windows installation disk, the screen hangs on the initial "Setup is starting" screen indefinitely. Using a repair disk gets farther- it lets me choose some settings, but then hangs on a screen that says "Searching for Windows Installations". I'm not sure what a UEFI install is but I assume my hard disk is not UEFI because I did not see any options in the BIOS

Edit: I'm sure that the installation disk is not corrupted: tried running it in another Windows 7 laptop and it loaded without problems.

3. The hard drive is still detected in BIOS set up

4. Trying the System Restore leads to a black screen

5. As mentioned above, the repair disk hangs on "Searching for Windows Installations"

7. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking leads to a black screen

8. Not available,... Read more

I have a Toshiba P25-S526 laptop, a couple years old. Running Windows XP, all updates downloaded, so it has the most recent service pack and everything.

I just had a very bad virus in it but I restored it. It's been running fine since the restore, up til now.

We had a few problems problems while it was running. Every once in a while the screen would flash back, stay like that for around 20 seconds, revert back to windows, and then go back to black. It would do this til shutdown. I *think* it was changing the resolution. It was about the same wait as it took to change that. And when it did revert back to windows, everything was functional. I googled the problem, found something similar. It recommended I get rid of a start up application via msconfig. That solved that problem for good. Ran fine again for a few weeks.

Now it won't boot. Here's the steps it goes through:
1) Toshiba screen
2) Screen filled with all 0s...I have no clue what this is.
3) Windows XP loading screen
4) Screen flashes yellow, VERY brief. Then it goes to a black screen. And stays there. Until you shut it down.

The laptop DOES boot in safe mode.

I suspect the graphics card might be bad, but that's only because I have NO other explanation. Does anyone have an idea? Sorry for the long explanation.

Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Laptop not booting, possible graphics card issue?

Try Last Known Configuration. If that doesn't work then boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the Display driver and restart. Windows will load the Default VGA driver. Then you can download an updated driver for the display.

Hello,
I own a Samsun laptop. It had always worked fine, until it fell while shutting down and presumably damaged the hard drive. Nevertheless, I reinstalled Windows and it ran perfectly well for a couple of months. Then, all of a sudden, it wouldn't even boot. A few light went up and a faint noise could be heard from the fan, but that was it. After severan tries, it finally booted, but now the keyboard just didn't respond. From then on it's been the same: most times it won't boot, and when it does, keyboard won't work. Sometimes it'll freeze at startup or crash when trying to activate the screen keyboard. What can I do? Is it fixable? Expensive? My warranty's still on time, though, and I'll give it a try tomorrow, but on the meantime any help would be appreciated.

A:Laptop double issue: booting and keyboard

You probably damaged the HDD and possibily the mother board. If your comfortable opening the laptop you might want to check that the keyboard ribbon is still seated properly, note this will probably void your warranty, so if you plan on using the warranty don't open up the laptop.

What OS (Operating System) are you using? To shutdown firefox, right click the taskbar & on the menu that pops up left click Start Task Manager & go to the Processes Tab,find firefox, highlight it & click End process. You might get a pop up asking you to confirm it,click yes & X out of Task Manager.
You need to install Malwarebytes on the harddrive. Once its installed, update it & run a (full) scan.

Folks............Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to offer.......

My Laptop was working just fine last evening, and this am is now not booting successfully.......

Once powered off, when the on button is pressed, the following message appears.........

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this. etc, etc."

When safe mode is pressed, a bunch of prompts run, and then it freezes. You must then shut off the PC and then restart to get back to the menu choices.

Another message we see now is............

General help in the Bios...........
"Set up systems behavior by modifying the bios configuration. Selecting incorrect values may cause system boot failure; load setup default values to recover."

Not sure where to head here.........any idea what is going on?

Additional input............i HAD loaded in the last couple of days a new Quicken Premiere package, but that appeared to be working fine, and the laptop had been on and off several times before and after that load, successfully.

Sorry...I just don't understand what or why this condition so suddenly appeared. the PC is perhpas 6 months old, and i regulary run Spysweeper and Nortons on it, and had in the last day or 2 had run both on it.

Thanks for reviewing this request.

Hello,

I?m writing in to ask someone who's really computer savvy for two distinct problems with a 6 month old Lenovo Y580 Ideapad Laptop of mine. It runs Windows 8, 64-bit.

Basically, I haven?t seen either of these two issues, sound-freezing/visual, crop up with anybody else, including Lenovo?s own website, so I?ll be over the moon if anyone can shed some light.

I'll explain the first issue in detail.

Here goes:

From early on, this laptop, has had ridiculous freezing issues. There?s no virus on it or anything like that on it. I've estimated that the laptop has freezes an average of at least twice a day(!), and it's had maybe 10 BSODs.

I?ve updated all Drivers and done a clean wipe and reinstallation of Windows 8--I have no choice, it?s built in with the laptop system--but to no avail; it still freezes like anything. There is no pattern to the freezing. The laptop could just freeze if opening up a document, or worse, if saving one. (However, I did notice it to be slightly worse when I was running multiple videos on Youtube).

Finally, I sort of isolated a problem: If starting the Computer up WITHOUT Audio (RUN/MSCONFIG/Services/disable Windows Audio at startup), there are basically NO hangs/freezes whatsoever. You can run it for hours and hours. Apparently, the same thing happens if run in Safe Mode: there appear to be no freeze issues.

This got me thinking "It must be a Drivers issue," so I checked the Drivers again. However, both the Realtek Driv... Read more

I have a friends Asus x54h laptop that is not booting, and it is droving me crazy.

What is happening:
When the power button is pressed the fan turns on and some indicator lights turn on including the hard drive indicator light. Then the disc drive makes a noise and the hard drive indicator light turns off. Here is a picture of the indicator lights:

Nothing ever shows up on the screen.
Sometimes after running 1-5 minutes the laptop will just completely turn off.

What I have tried:
-Booting with just the power cord connected.

-Booting with just the battery connected.

-Taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button for 40 seconds, then plug in and try to boot again.

-Attaching a screen and pushing the keyboard buttons to add an additional screen. Nothing showed up on it.

-Taking it's hard drive and putting it in a good laptop. It booted into Windows and ran without issues.

-Replacing the current stick of ram with a new one from crucial.com. This laptop only has one RAM slot and I don't have any compatible RAM so I had to just buy one. I put it in, and nothing happened differently. Also, if I remove the RAM completely nothing happens differently. This made me think that there might be an issue with the RAM slot. I looked at it, and there seems to be something a little weird about one of the connectors. Here is a picture:

hi Sriharshahonne,

Welcome to the Forums.

When you power up the machine, can you observe the temps of the CPU/GPU by using HWInfo / HWmonitor or similar utility while the unit is idle and under load (normal temps should be between 50C-70C on light to medium load @ 24C-28C room temperature). However, if the CPU and GPU are fully stressed, the temps will hit around 80C-90C

Check this Lenovo U41-70 review
 - Link to picture (temp readings using HWInfo)

if the temp. is too hot and you feel uncomfortable & can barely use the unit on your lap then you may want to consider contacting the lenovo helpdesk to report the issue or the place of purchase (if it's still possible to exchange the unit).

Hi,
I just got a ASUS G75V series and updated it to windows 7 professional with Intel core i7.
I was able to work with it and everything was fine until I had to install XP because some softwares are not compatible with Win 7 x64.
I have Win 7 on drive C: and windows xp on drive E: which in windows XP environment it is shown as drive C: again(I have two HDDs, 500GB each).

So as you can predict I tried using the dual booting and followed the tutorial for that on the website, I wasn't able to get it to work exactly and each time I had to change the bios settings to boot either win 7 or win XP,

I downloaded easyBCD and was trying to get it to work but my silly mistake was I Reset BCD configuration under BCD backup/repair tab and ever since I haven't been able to load windows 7 and the laptop directly loads windows xp.

I ran easyBCD in windows xp and tried to fix the problem by adding the bootloader for windows 7 there but nothing seems to work.

I am really stuck and I can not reinstall windows 7 because it is set up with all the softwares for my work

A:Issue booting Win 7, booting directly into XP & no boot manager

It sounds like you have the OS's installed on two separate HD's, and were booting them correctly via the BIOS - setting preferred one first to boot in BIOS setup, then booting the other one using the one-time BIOS Boot menu key.

To restart Win7 unplug all other HD's, Mark the 100mb System Reserved (preferred) or Win7 Partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

Once Win7 starts, plug back in the XP HD and boot it using the Asus F8 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key, or install EasyBCD to Win7 to add XP on its Add OS entry tab.

First thing to do is run an extended (NOT just 10 minute) diagnostic on the hard drive.  If you need further assistance, post the results of that (numeric error codes) along with the full model information - i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS L501x, etc.).

Press F12 a few times immediately after powering on to get into the diagnostics.

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Hello there, occassional lurker, first time poster, hopefully someone here will be able to help

I've been setting my laptop to dual boot xp pro, and Ubuntu on a seperate partition. All was going well, until xp decided to die altogther. I don't have that error to hand, but it's gone a little further now.

Was going to install xp pro on a 3rd partition, and it started up fine. Now I can boot fine to Ubuntu, and the 2nd version of xp. However, the original xp is still having issues.

Now, when booting up, gets BSOD - bad_pool_caller. Code at the end is: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007,0x00000CD4,0x00000060,0x86F7E1FC)

Everything I've read suggests this is talking about a hardware or software conflict. However, I've not installed any new hardware. I suspect there is a software conflict between the two versions of xp, but I can't see how that can happen.

I can boot into the 1st copy of xp in safe mode, however, explorer.exe fails to start up. Tried running it in task manager to no avail.

I forgot to add - I am using GNU GBRUB to boot between the 3 operating systems.

EDIT 2: Tried it again to boot 1st xp in safe mode - new error for windows product activation - a problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the licence for this computer error code 0x800004005

A:Dual booting laptop crashes booting xp pro.

Are these installations of XP Pro on the two partitions diferent install disks with separate key codes?

My Lenovo Laptop recently has stopped working. It turns on and everything, it just cannot boot up.The loading screen pops up and everything, but it won't go to the login screen. When I power the laptop on, it goes on the loading screen, and stays like that for a good 5-8 minutes, then gets an error message that says"Process1_Initialization_Failed"Then it tries to go into System Recovery, but after "Loading Files" it goes into the loading screen, then transitions into a black screen. There are no options, just a black screen.I wait for an hour, and absolutely nothing happens.I made sure nothing else is plugged in except for the Charger. The laptop is a Lenovo Y51.If you need anymore information, please ask. I really need this fixed soon.

My Computer data:Lenovo G50- 45Win 8 already being installedMy problem:Hey dudes,I wanted to start my PC as always but instead of starting my GUI, windows just showed me the message that "Automatically reperation is being prepared". I used to wait but after hours the computer stayed the same. I decided to use the "onekey recovery" but instead of recovering, the computer just showed me the lenovo sign and used to load. The same procedure, I used to wait hours, but nothing changed. After that I prepared an USB device and set win 10 (64) on it and wanted to let him boot from my device. After having a lot of problems, I found a page on the internet telling me to change to "legacy" mode and to disable secure boot. Well, done that and enter with "Fn and F12" the boot menu. Selected my USB device and he is really showing me a Win 10 logo. But, and thats my problem he isnt doing anything else. He is just showing me a loading circle with a big blue Win 10 logo. I dont know what I should do next. Any Ideas around here? I've heard that a Hardware issue could be possible, isn't it? While booting, I pushed different Keys and heard one single, loud Beeping. Any ideas what I could do guys?Would be really glad to hear from you  - Greetings

So, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61T 9660CTO which I bought in 2007. It has served me well. Yesterday, it was working perfectly, albeit with some exxtra high heating at the bottom, close to 60-70 degrees Celcius. Then , I wanted to put in a new SSD into it. So, I took out the old HDD and then connected it, and the other SSD via USB casing to another computer running a disk cloning software. Tried it did not work. Now, I put back the old HDD into the Thinkpad, it does not start up again at all. Even the first screen which says "Thinkpad" press Blue button for recovery" does not come up now. Hard drive is not it, since the screen does not switch on at ALL. If it was HDD failure, it would say something like HDD not detected. But in this case, it does not even show the initial Thinkpad screen. So, this may be a loose connection somewhere (even though I did not remove the casing at all while removing the HDD) Both times, I removed and reattached the HDD, with the power cable removed from the Thinkpad, but, the battery was still inside the chassis. Short circuit? Bad! Someone help.

In case its not clear, when I press the power button, I do not arrive at the press Del to enter BIOS screen at all. No THINKPAD screen. Just black screen and no HDD activity

Hi guys,I fresh reinstalled windows yesterday and allowed it to collect updates overnight, including drivers. This morning I wake up and powering on the machine, I am greeted with a recovery screen. Selecting exit and continue brings me back to the recovery screen.I tried refreshing it from that screen, though it asks for recovery media, of which there appears to be none, even when I have a properly configured and bootable recovery media USB key inserted. As a recovery bootable device I use a lexar 8 gb USB drive. The machine has no optical drive. The only thing I can gather is that USB and or legacy boot mode are not enabeled. As I am totally blind, I have very little knowledge of the bios of this particular device, and any decent explanations are scarce.I know how to get to them (press f2 for bios and f12 for boot menu I believe) though anything else is beyond me.Could somebody tell me what to press at the keyboard to enable USB mode, and or legacy mode, if that particular option is needed? And by the way, for those curious about how I gathered information about the recovery screens, I use an app called seeing AI, which takes screenshots of anything you tell it to, and tries to tel you what it sees.Even with good lighting, the seeing AI app isn't of much use to help navigating the bios menu. Most problematic, I can't tell exactly what order the app sees the options, as compared to what order they are actually in.I would be most greatful if anyone could help, as this is the only ...  I bought this system just 3 days ago though not brand new but it was working very perfectly,   the system is running windows 8 pro n, I connected the system to the Internet and I was asked to update windows which I accepted and after the update,  (some failed while some were successful)  the system began misbehaving,  the screen goes black while the system is on,  I had to switch off the system and power it on again,  the screen comes up but after some time goes black again,  I tried some tricks I read online which seemed to work but later, the problem continued and the tricks stopped working, somehow,  I managed to get the system running normally again n I thought maybe the failed updates is the problem,  I selected the windows updates that failed n try to update again,  the screen went black again,   I turned the system off and tried to turn it on again but this time, it refuse to power on,  when I hit the power on button,  the power on light comes up and the fan tries to run and goes silent,  the power on light goes off immediately,  tried n tried n the same thing keep happening,  hitting the power on button, the power on light comes up and after some seconds,  goes off again,  I took the system to an engineer, he said the system has board problem,  I don't know how true is this Cus the system was running very  well,  all this problems started right after the wind... I am having issues with booting my laptop. The other day I tried turned on my laptop and it came up with a message which disappeared before I could check what it said. It then put me in a loop with restarting my laptop with options and now it isn't booting at all. Each time I try and power on the machine the screen goes black and the lights on the front to show power and charge light up. Then after about 20 or so seconds, it shuts down. I also tried pressing the OneKey Recovery button on the left side of the device however this did the same as the power button. I stripped down the laptop to check the CMOS battery to see if that was the issue but the battery was healthy and showing 3.19 volts. What else could this issue be?  Thanks, James W.

Hello,I recently bought (used) a Lenovo H520 that will not boot. When I press the power button, the fans spin up and the power button stays solid on. The disk read/write light quickly flashes about every three seconds. Absolutely nothing happens on screen so I cannot access the BIOS. I got it cheap due to a bad hard drive and used an old Windows 7 drive instead. I upgraded it to Windows 10 (x64, wiping the 32-bit 7) and it worked fine. I do not know what changed between then and now but now it will not boot. I have already attempted booting without the hard drive to the same effect.Thank you.

My Lenovo B590 was working fine yesterday, today suddenly I can't make it boot up. I have recorded a video that demonstrates the behaviour of the Laptop on Power On:https://youtu.be/T9IcxsIgRcE It remains in an endless loop of powering up for a sec, making some click-sound and turning off immediately. Longpress power button ends the loop. AC cable is connected, battery is inserted. Things I tried that didn't solve the issue:Power On only with AC cable (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Power On only with battery (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Removing both RAM and trying it with one each in each of both RAM slotsProbably an issue with the motherboard? Anything else I could try?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you are experiencing.  I would try removing the optical drive and then try powering the laptop up.  If that doesn't work then remove the hard drive and power up.  Since the click sounds mechanical in nature, that would lead me to suspect either one of those devices.  If the laptop powers up with a drive removed then suspect that drive as being faulty.

Your model's User Guide will explain how to remove those drives.  Here is a link to that manual for your reference.....

Hidy ho all,

I have a Lenovo G505s I bought in august. Up to this point, its been a great machine. This morning (11/20/2014) I installed some updates from windows update. around 4:30 PM today, I rebooted the machine, because I had an hour break in between classes. During that reboot it tried to install those updates, and it said it failed. After the failure it said it was reverting back to the prior state before the updates were installed.

It then rebooted again. It got to the Lenovo splash screen, and some little white text on the bottom of the screen has said for the past half hour "Updating your system (5%)" with the windows 8 little circle thing spinning around just above it.

I did try restarting it by holding down the power button, but it came right back to this screen.

Google has turned up nothing yet. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have they (you) been able to fix it?

A:Lenovo G505s not booting

I think the quickest way around this issue is to let the OS try to install the updates it might take a while to do so(which is a pain) but I would wait because you don't want to mess up your system you might loose more than the time you will wait
