Help with repairing IP address please???

Q: Help with repairing IP address please???

Hi!

Recently my internet went out, called the cable company, had it restored. Thought everything was great. However, when I try to connect using the computer in MY room, the internet doesn't work. It says something about not being able to load the page and for me to check the firewall settings, etc etc. At first I had trouble repairing the IP address. I went and plugged the IP manually from the main pc (with the router directly there) to mine and now it's connected but with no internet... Hope this all makes sense...

Help!!!

Preferred Solution: Help with repairing IP address please???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Help with repairing IP address please???

To re-establish networking via a cable (I assume you are using a Cable Router for this) it takes more that JUST calling the cable company and having them refresh the cable box.

Contact the cable's Network Support and have them help you with that. Cable Network is a separate issue from the Cable Box. You MAY have the issue of the cable's left-hand NOT talking to the right-hand.

I have tried to what to do to fix this issue. (Let me start by saying that my computer knowledge is probably not as good as most people in here). Everytime I start my computer I need to repair my IP address in order to get connectivity. My operating system is Windows xp. But once I do repair it, it works. There has to be a way for me to be able to turn on my computer and not have to do this everytime. No other computer in the house has this issue, please someone help...

A:Always repairing IP address

Open up the command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL and note down:
IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Servers.

Open Network Connections, open Properties of the Local Area Connection, open properties of TCP/IP and change entries to manual and enter values you noted down above in the correct boxes. No need to reboot.

I have been unable to insert an address from my Yahoo email address book for some time now and I have decided to ask for help.

All I am doing is opening Yahoo mail and trying to compose a new email to send to someone who is already in my contacts. When I click "to:" or "insert address" my address book shows up. But when I place a check mark and try to "insert checked contacts" I go to this address on a blank page: http://us.mc1612.mail.yahoo.com/mc/kioskHandler

I see that this has been asked before but no one had replied and I can't find the answer doing a search.

Can anyone help?

I have Vista Home Premium 32 using Firefox. The version is the latest version of Firefox but this has happened in many previous versions of Firefox. (I was lazy [or in a hurry] and just typed in the address of the entity to which I was communicating as a work around.)

A:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

Hi
I would like to hide the address bar but still be able to use the forward and back buttons and some other features.  I have add the rege key to remove nav bar but that removes everything.  Im using this in a citrix xendesktop environment.
I will deploy a site but don't want the users to navigate to other sites.  For instance go to our intranet site but stop them from going to our firewall gui page. So when they click on links I wont them to be able to go back to the previous page.
Any ideas?

I am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange. Can someone please suggest a fix for this (and dont say update the drivers) although it could likely be something as simple that I have overlooked.

The problem was found when I was using the TuneUp DiskCleaner to scan the hard drive labled F (the "File" drive). The scanning was stopped when it reached a folder (a folder that contains html pages that someone sent to me and I saved there), and a error message popped up saying "Access violation at address 019C44F3. Read of address 83C70A78."

I repeated the scanning and the exactly same thing happened -- even the error address reported was the same.

I tried to delete the folder from the explorer window. But everytime after I press the "delete" button, the explorer just breaks down, while that folder remains there the next time I open the explorer. The same thing happens in when I tried to delete it in the safe mode.

Strangely, I was able to rename the folder. It just can't be deleted.

Since everytime the same error address was reported, I assumed there could be some defect with the hard drive. So I launched a thorough scan of the F drive using TuneUp Disk Doctor, which reached the deepest level by checking every 512 bytes sector. The scan took about 20 minutes, but nothing wrong was found.

Can any one help me figure out what's wrong? Thanks.

A:Access violation at address 019C44F3. Read of address 83C70A78.(RESOLVED)

Hi there and welcome to TSF.
First, check the permissions on the folder. Right click on it then select properties. Make sure the folder isn't "read-only". If you still can't delete it, try using the utility MoveonBoot. You can download it from this site.. This allows you to mark the folder for removal next time you reboot.

I am using Outlook 2003 and run Windows XP.

When I create a new message I begin typing the name of the recipient and I would like it to match up with an address I have in my Outlook contact list. However, it does not read from there. It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

At T -13 the installation is processing SVCPACK.INF
A typical SVCPACK.INF file looks like this:

Quote:

;Windows XP
[Version]
Signature=" NT$"
MajorVersion=5
MinorVersion=1
BuildNumber=2600

[SetupData]
CatalogSubDir="\i386\SVCPACK"

Q330994.exe /Q:A /R:N
Q819696.exe /Q /O /N /Z
KB824146.exe /Q /O /N /Z
qchain.exe

It is qchain that resolves new hotfixes with existing hotfixes and controls versioning. (http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;296861 )

Unplug everything but mouse, keyboard, display adapter and monitor.
Restart the installation.

If it still hangs, you will need to extract SVCPACK.INF, edit it as follows below and place it back into the XP image. Then reburn. It might be best to image an ISO from the installation CD, edit the ISO with something like ISOBuster, and reburn as an image file type ISO.

Hi there. I have a but of an unusual problem and perhaps this belongs in the hardware section.

Anyhow, after been away for a few days I turn on my computer and it tells me that I need to repair my XP since there is something wrong with the /system32 folder or whatnot.

I have the CD to repair, however my keyboard is a USB type and deactivates after the initial boot window, not allowing me to proceed from the "Hit any key to boot from CD device....".

I'm wondering if there is any solution to this short of going out and buying a keyboard that uses a standard keyboard connection.

Hi everyone!

I have been reading articles all over the place about repairing XP. I have certain problems such as my taskbar disappeared and Windows Sounds and Flash Movies Sounds not working. I have tried every method on the internet to fix this, but does not work. Although there is 1 method that kept being mentioned which I haven't tried yet because I'm not really sure how to do it. Anyways it said something about make sure the CD boots up before the harddrive? I have no idea what it means. It mentioned I have to configure my BIOS or something, and there was a list of options of what to do with what BIOS. Anyways I dunno what that means, but my BIOS is American Megatrends, Inc. .
I need more information on how to repair my XP with those information I have provided above. Please PM me or post here with more information on how to repair my Windows XP.

A:Repairing XP - HELP!

Hi what it means is that when you put your xp windows in the CD drive make sure that this is the first one to do this. When your computer starts up keep pushing up and down the delete button or if that does not work, then shut it down and push f2. A scree will come up in front of you this is where you need to go, on the first or second menu, scroll through that and you will come upon a list saying floppy, IDE, WHICH IS YOUR hard drive, or CD.Look at the different options of how to alter and save, make cd your first, IDE, Second, and floppy the third one. when you have altered them press f10 to save it will ask do you want to save changes n/y press y press enter, and your computer will now carry on as normal. Now when you come to install windows again PUT your disk in cd drive and it should now recognise it.I hope that has cleared up one or two points.

Help me out. I want to "repair" a certain dead PC. It's one of those "Digitek" types. It used to run Windows 98 Here are things as of now:
1: The hard disk is dead. The PC powers (I can hear some wierd "di di di" as the disk head tries to read) on and displays "Searching For Master Boot Record On SCSI...Not Found, Insert System Disk And Press Any Key"
2: Before it spoilt, it used to display "X is not accessible. The device is not ready". X represents both the floppy and CD drive.
3: I downloaded a Windows 98 bootdisk from the net and copied it to a floppy. Tried booting from the floppy but it failed.
I have a new hard disk which I want to install on the PC. Can someone tell me how to go about it? Just a guess: Could the drivers for the floppy and CD drives have been deleted because device manager used to report that there were two "unknown devices". Below are the specs of the PC:
AMD Duron 1200+ processor, 96 MB RAM, DiamondPlus9 Maxtor 80 GB HDD(this is the one that died), 25 MB RAM SiS integrated video display. Anyone having any questions just ask them.

Well I have tried to use SFC and it tell me that my XP disk is the wrong one.

Could you please explain what you meant by this?

When you are running the sfc scan, are you getting a message that says "Please insert your Windows?XP CD?" if you are, just click on retry and let it do its thing; this might happen on a number of occasions whilst sfc is scanning, which is quite normal.

When using sfc however, it is very important that you use a compatible Windows?XP SP2 CD...what this means is; you must use the same version CD to what is installed on the computer.

If Windows?XP Home is installed the CD that is to be used must be a Windows? XP Home Edition CD.
You cannot use a Windows? XP Professional CD on an installation that has Windows? XP Home Edition installed, and vice versa.

Hi all,
Each time I right click on my favourites to place them in alphabetical order IE 8 seizes. I have tried Tools / Internet Options / Advanced Reset. I have also turned it off & back on again via Control Panel but the problem remains.

I have visited the Microsoft web site to try & download IE 8 to re-install it. I go round in circles, until I finally opt for downloading IE8 for Vista. (The only one I can find) When I try to install I'm told that my operating system does not support IE8 yet I'm running it!

Any sugestions please?

If you already have IE8 it cannot be uninstalled or reinstalled. The best you can do is turn it off. That being said, go to tools>internet options>advanced>reset. The problem is most likely not IE8 but one of the add ons. My instructions will remove them. You can replace one byone until you find the problem.

My friend's computer got nailed by SpyLocked, so like any good person would, I directed him to smitfraudfix to help him out. He followed the directions and all, but when he tried to restart, ended up with an "autochk not found" error, and ended up locked in a deathloop. We found his XP CD and tried reinstalling, but we're kind of stuck on what to do. He's got some things in his My Documents folder that he'd prefer not losing, but when it came time to chose where to install it, we couldn't chose to create a new partition, and we don't know what'd happen if we overwrote the windows folder, since it states that the My Documents (and other like folders) may be deleted. Hello,

This post is in regards to two previous threads. I posted in the Hijackthis forum and it turns out that I probably do not have a malware issue. That post is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...-symptoms.html

The original post, in this forum, is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...-moved-xp.html

Here is a breif re-cap of the symptoms I've noticed:
1. When opening a folder, the system freezes for 15 seconds, then it is fine. Programs do not seem to have this problem, just folder windows.
2. XP's built-in .zip viewer tool doesn't work. I see an hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing happens.
3. Cannot use the Run or Internet buttons on the start menu. Instead, I get the message: "Cannot create shortcut here. Would you like to create a shortcut on the desktop".
4. My "send to" list after right-clicking is populated with only 1 entry (some 3rd party nonsense).

My belief is that I've got a corrupt explorer and maybe something else. An sfc scan asks for the XP disk to restore system files. Unfortunately, it asks for the XP discs, which did not come with my computer. I've tried to point sfc to my 386 folder, but that was unsuccessful.

I greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Hello - I have a DELL Dimension 4700 running WINxp w/ sp2 and sp3. The warranty ran out 12/19/08. The PC crashed today!

I want to repair windows from the disk. I boot from the disk and select R for repair. It asks what installation I want to repair and I select 1 - it is the only installation. Then it asks for an admin pw. I don't know this. I called DELL and they want $50.00 to fix it..., no options. It's the last DELL... probably the last PC...

Can I get around this somehow? I went into setup and changed the ADMIN pw to admin. Went back to the boot screen and entered the password.. It took me to a DOS prompt. I have not tried DOS since 1986.

Can someone provide some help... I would greatly appreciate it.

I did extract the HDs and I harvested all the files I need to another machine... a MAC!

Nonetheless, I would like to repair the OS without a reinstall if I can...

My computer will not boot.
It says safe mode, safe mode with networking, start normally, but none of them work it just restarts the computer and brings me back to this screen.
So, I want to repair xp by inserting my disk to the computer.
I did this, but when i open bios, and go to the boot option, it does not give cd rom as an option, it says floppy disk drive, and two other options. I tried all of them, they don't work.
I also tried copying all of the data from my cd, onto emy usb.
When i turn on eh computer and open bios, it recognizes my usb! I chose my usb to be boot #1, exited bios, and saved changes.
When i restarted / booted my computer, it does not boot my usb, it says "operating system missing"

P{lease help, what am I doing wrong.

A:repairing xp

Your PC will not boot from the USB drive because there are no 'boot' files on that drive. The XP CD contains boot files sure enough but you can't copy those boot files to another drive by simply copying all the data from the CD onto the USB drive. Boot files cannot be copied like that. And with no boot files, your system will ignore the usb drive.

To copy everything including the boot code from cd to usb drive you need to make an ISO image of the cd, then burn that ISO image to your usb drive. You can do that with an app called "MagicISO" from here:
http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm

If there is no cd-rom drive available in the boot sequence options it probably means you need to fit a new cd-rom drive because the existing one has come to the end of it's life.
Either that or the option is there but you don't realise it. It may be called "DVD" or "DVD-ROM" in the BIOS if the drive can read or write DVD discs.

Hi, I have recently repaired my Windows 2000. After repairing Windows 2000, I did not expect that all my files and programs would switch places to other drives. For example, the VLC Media Player was once in G Drive. Now, it is in H Drive. Also, my disc drives used to be I and J Drives, but it is now M and N Drives. Is there any way to change everything back to normal as it was once was without having to change the Target location of the desktop shortcut? I personally liked how everything it was before. Basically, my question is how to change everything back to normal as it was before repairing Windows 2000.

If there's no way in changing everything back to normal, I guess I will have to make a backup of everything in each of my drives, delete the drives, and then start everything over again by partitioning it if I can although it will be really frustrating for me.

A:After Repairing

Normally it should change like that but I think the only way you have to get it back as before is to backup all your files and re-install windows with new partition.

But before doing that try to repair windows 2000 once more and if it is the same then re-install windows

Hi,
I have a problem for over a week now that when I type a certain website in URL address bar it directs me to a different website.
I tried looking at the lmhosts - seems ok.

I also tried going back to a restore point of a time when I didnt have the problem, didnt help.

I would thank you very much for trying to advice me.

Best,
Sefi

A:typing web address brings me to a diiferent address in explore and mozilla

There are a few reasons for this.

First sometimes the site you are looking to visit isa "front" site and is for the most part fake. It is created to get search engines to list it high on the list of returned results.
When you try to use the search link to go to the site you get redirected to the site the creators/owners actually want you to visit. There are various reasons they may want this, but I will not go into the why for now other than to tell you it usually involves visitor counts and or subscriptions translating into money.

Second this is a common symptom of maleware/spyware.
It is also a redirect to a website they are hoping if you see it enough you will get interested and pay to join.
It may have installed as a legit program without your permission.
This would be why the restore did not work.

There are other reasons, but I will only deal with these first as they are the two most common.

If it is only happening on one site I would just forget about that site as it is a lost cause.
If it is happening on more than one site then I would run a few good spyware scans and at least one good anti-virus scan if not more than one to make sure you "catch" it if that is in fact what is wrong.

If you do not already have them I would reccomend installing

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

A:Solved: Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

Hi Jim,
Assuming you still have Microsoft Office (any version) you can use the Word mail merge feature and use your .csv file as your data source - no other programs necessary. What version of Office are you using?

Hey everyone.

I've ran into a problem that I can't quite figure out. My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.

Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP
When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'

-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working

All of these options did not work.

What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

I'd be glad to prov... Read more

A:'No Internet Access' IP address shows router not the modem IP address

That would be your ISPs' address, the router would probably be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 so, in the properties, advanced button for the ipv4 of your adapter, make sure both settings are on auto, and add the correct router address in the gateway box.

Out of the blue my Dell Inspiron laptop decided it needed to reboot for repairs. Now it won't stop doing a scan/repair or some other recovery. I turn it off and on and it goes between the two. Yet it never actually completes either one. It just goes on and on. Now I get the Dell Backup and Recovery program which says there's damage and just keeps going and going. I only visit a few websites and would have no idea how I got a virus. It was fine and then all of a sudden not.

A:Scanning and repairing

This is more likely a bad hard drive than a virus.  Run an extended diagnostic on the drive - F12 at powerup.
If you require further assistance, post the full model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS L501x) and any error codes that the diagnostics show.

Hello,
My Wife's Laptop Hard drive went belly up. It is a "Momentus 750GB hybrid drive. I moved it to my desktop PC and ran "7-data Partition Recovery" on it.

After several days and hours of work. I now have what appears to be the entire recovered HD approx 700GB of file data on an external Hard drive. I think the only files which didn't makeit were those that were trapped by my virus checker. I'll worry about those later.

My Question is: what's the best way to restore the physical drive sothat she'll be able to boot and run Windows 8 again? Of course I have no Win8 install disc, "Thank you very much Microsoft!" However Samsung was nice enough to send me a "restore disc" which will reinstall all the initial software (and included junkware!)
MY current path is to wait for the Restore CD use it to write over the existing HDD and then attempt to copy all the files from the restore directory on my external HDD to the laptop boot drive either the original (if it will still work) or a replacement if it is totally fried (cant be too bad, I guess, I recovered 700gb of data in 7 Partitions (Both NTFS and FAT)) .

Will this be enough to recreate her hard drive to just before the failure?

Is there a better way to proceed? Any gotchas I should be aware of like files being uncopiable, read only etc?? do I need to do something special with the partition's placement, boot records, MFTs, etc?? I'm not at all familiar with these aspects of window 8

Have you made the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD. (Windows 8 only)
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8 (Windows 8 only)

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.

or
You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.

OK, I've found this several times on the internet, but no clear and thorough answer. I'm getting desperate. Here's the situation. I was on the internet, and all of a sudden it froze and wouldn't do anything, including bringing up the task manager when I tried to shut down the browser. I had no other option but to do a hard shutdown. When I tried to restart, I got the typical Windows did not shut down properly message, and chose to start windows normally. However, it went to a black screen and never did anything.

I hard booted again, and got a screen stating the computer did not start properly, and I could either run Startup Repair or start Windows normally. Startup Repair eventually took me to the unmountable boot volume error, while tryiing to start normally did nothing. I booted from my Vista disk and went into recovery to repair the system. However, under select an operating system to repair and click next, there is nothing listed. If I just click on the next button, I get the options as normal to run Startup Repair, System Restore, Complete PC Restore, Memory Diagnostic Tool, and Command Prompt.

So. Why is there no operating system to select under the select box? And if I do skip this and click next, which option should I be choosing on the Choose a recovery tool menu? These are the questions that aren't seeming to be clearly answered on other sites. From what I've gathered from researching, damage was done to a boot file when I did the hard shutdown. Please help, I ha... Read more

Thank you,
Marc
