Hi,

I Purchased this Laptop few years back. Now it stopped working suddenly. Am in India right now but when i consulted the Dell Exclusive store here they say its not repairable. Kindly suggest. I never fell down nor got damaged by any external source. I wanted to get it repaired or may be send it back to recycling if possible.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

We cannot assist without knowing why the shop said it's not repairable.
How old is "a few years"? Any system more than three years old likely isn't worth a major repair such as a replacement system board -- even if a board is available.

This is a low-end system -- if it requires a mainboard change, it's likely not worth the repair, as the shop has told you.

Hoping to get some help/answers.
Just purchased the above laptop in the subject line, believing it to have a 'backlit keyboard', when what I was reading actually said 'backlit Display'.
We really want a laptop with the backlit keyboard.  Can I purchase and install a Dell backlit keyboard for this laptop, and actually have it work once installed?
Our only other option is to return the laptop and purchase a different one with that feature, but we got a great price on this one, and I have researched keyboard prices and they are not that expensive.

I got a Dell Inspiron 1545 here and I want to check the system specifications on the Dell site. I always use the Service Tag for Dell systems but this tag isn't recognized.. Even the Express Service Code isn't recognized. I tried to contact through the Chat but it's getting closed everytime because I can only access the Chat for Sales Advisor. All other options for chat or e-mail are all dependent of my Service Tag. Can you please help me to figure out why it isn't working and what the system specifications are according to your system?

And sorry to say but it's a real annoying system that I can't send a mail without a working Service Tag. From the DELL technical support website, I downloaded the BIOS Update. On executing the file it asked me system will reboot.  
The system has frozen and I cannot restart my machine. I am using Windows 7 (64bit)

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Try powering up again.
If that doesn't get it going, either the mainboard needs to be replaced, or you need to have a shop un-solder the BIOS chip, flash it externally and then resolder it.

Most of the suggestions offered up by google include using the admin account.
In my case, this happens with my only and thus admin account (personal computer - windows 7).
I would like a solution if possible avoiding a system restore as there are files I do not wish to lose.
I have had issues with the concerned computer for the past 2 months, loading up a temporary profile, and necessitating renaming of the profile via regedit (removing the .bak).

I have attempted to activate the integrated admin account via the console in the system restore menu, which the console accepted ; however it does not appear, and when I try to log in with 'admin' user name, I am informed it has been deactivated.

I found a past question on diagnostic policy service not running and did what you said (make sure its set to automatic), which it is... I also got the error when i tried to start the service... Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service service on Local Computer" then says Error 5: Access is denied.

then you told the person to try uninstalling your network adapter driver ...

if given steps I could do it otherwise I dont know how...

I decided to come here because the dell.ca web support is unable to provide me with solutions.
Here is my dilemma: my Vostro 3500 Service Tag: <Service tag removed> laptop HDD is toast. Bought a new hard drive, but the PC never shipped with an OS re-install disc. Tried to D/L Win 7 disk image from Dell website countless times, but all attempts failed. Finally, I don't even know whether I need the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Searcing by servicetag 9S***V1, its not found.It also have a Express Service tag 2133***4221None of this is helping me.
Spoke to a technician on DELL, he said thats wierd... He could not explain it.And he could not find it by service tag.Anyway, the problem has escalated.At first, the PC started to give bluescrens.Didnt matter if I reinstalled Windows (10)Then suddenly the screen went totally black on boot.The fans and lamps worked , but nothing at all on the screen.
Then I tried to reset Bios.After that its totally dead, nothing happens when hitting start button.I would like a service manual, need to see what the jumpers for Bios is doing.I removed HDD, DVD, RAM and tried, still nothing.I tested the PSU, its OKWhat can I do now ?

If you have purchased the system in the United States you can try to fill out the International transfer of ownership form.  This should transfer the warranties that were purchased with the system in the US to their nearest equivalent in India.

I keep getting these errors.  I uninstalled Dell Support Assistant, Dell Support Assistant remediation, and dell update services  and reinstalled them all but the errors keep coming back and I have a feeling something important in the winretools and dellsupport partitions are not getting updated.

Hi @all,
i have found out that the DELL Vostro 3558 has a 4 pin Backlight connector. So i bought me a keyboard with backlight it said compatible with DELL Vostro 3558/3559.
After connection everything works except the backlighting, in bios i also do not have the option to enable it. Is there a way to unlock this feature or do i need to wire it myself somehow?
Searching lead to an entry where a user successfully got a DELL Vostro 3559 Keyboard with Backlight working, sadly i cannot install the bios from that laptop i think there are not that much different.

So if somebody has an idea, please share it with me :)

Last thing I did was install a single windows update, I don't remember the update's number, but I remember the download size was less than 2Mb. I don't think the update has anything to do with this.. After successfully installing and rebooting, the laptop boots up normally and I get to the logon screen. After I enter my password I get the following error::

You can enable the hidden Administrator account from WinRE (the recovery environment) then login as Administrator, create a new account, copy everything from the old to the new, test then delete the old, corrupted account.

See here for how to enable the hidden Administrator account. Ignore the last part about changing passwords.

Note: Before you can copy anything, you must first logon with the new profile by logging off the current one and logging on with the new one or using Fast User Switching to logon to the new one without logging off of the old one. I have had my Inspiron 15 3000 series since the end of August and was liking it until is started beeping a few weeks ago - sounds like a truck backing up.  It does it 5 times and repeats 3 times when starting up.    I tried online support but you cannot get anywhere until you enter your service tag number or express service code neither are recognized.  I tried calling support but they could not identify my computer with the numbers either (I took pictures of them on my tablet and made them larger so I know they are right).   I purchased my laptop on line. Initially there was a message about the power source, but I have popped my battery out and  back in and the error message no longer pops up but is still beeps.   I am at a complete loss as to what to do at this point and am incredibly frustrated.

my Dell Inspiron 14z is stuck on the Dell Logo at boot up.
it was working well yesterday, but just become freeze at boot up
I can't press F2 F8 or F12 because it freezes at this point.
Releasing the residual charge did nothing (I drained the battery, have no courage to remove battery as the procedure is kind of complicated) - same problem
Restarting and tapping F12 highlights 'Boot options' but at this point it freezes.
Restarting with Fn pressed had no effect - same problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Recently I bought a new LCD screen for my Inspiron 14z 5423 that I bought back in 2012. Recently the screen broke and I went to the PartsPeople website. I got a new screen with ease. Then I saw that my laptop was sold with a Core i5 motherboard with AMD Radeon discrete graphics. My laptop has the Core i5 integrated graphics motherboard. The website said that the motherboard is compatible with my laptop. I purchased the motherboard along with the screen. A few questions I have is if it actually will work with my system. I have been searching for the fan needed for the new motherboard, but are there other things I will need.  My laptop has been updated to Windows 10.
If possible, can someone tell me if this is actually compatiable and if it will work, or if there are things I will need to do. Any information would be great.

it came with mSATA 32 Gb as Cash and 500 Gb ssd western digital 
i am planing to increase the ssd hard capacity to samsung evo ssd 4 Tb and clean install windows 10 from usb

Assuming your're planning on replacing the 2.5" drive with a 2.5" SSD (there are no mSATA drives at 4T -- M.2 yes, but mSATA, no), best is to get rid of the cache drive (or use it as a small storage drive).  While it accelerates the hard drive, it will slow down the native SSD.

Every time I'm tuocuing the lid on the top or bottem right side the pc restart itself.
The easiest touch restart the computer, at first I toght it's the screen(LCD) so disassemble it and connected a HDMI cable to my TV. I even replaced my motherboard.

It's an Inspiron 7520 with discrete video - any board for that model with that video will work.  That said, putting $250-300 into a board (plus labor) into a 4-year old system makes for a questionable economic choice -- you are probably better off putting that money toward a new system.

Hello, I currently have a dell new inspiron 14z, with 512gb hdd and a 60gb of cache-ssd (if that's the right term)I'm planning to buy a Samsung 256gb ssd and install it in place of the hdd - and since the Windows is installed in the HDD, this means that I'll have to reinstall Windows again.
So since I'm a newbie to all the ssd thing, I have a few number of questions -
1) Would I need to change BIOS settings? It's currently set at Intel RST setting (I don't remember the right term, but it wasn't AHCI), and it uses rapid storage technology using the micro ssd. Would I need to disable it to reinstall Windows?
2) Since I don't have a recovery disk, is it ok if I just download Windows from http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/windows-7-sp1-iso-download/  and install it in the USB?

Hi Andrew Pai,
mSATA drive uses the SSD technology to make the system faster. If you replace the normal mechanical hard drive with SSD hard drive the IRST technology feature would be nullified.
However, to use the SSD on the system please change the SATA operation mode in the BIOS from IRST to AHCI. You will need an operating system reinstallation disc to install it on the system. You can use the link below for placing a request for operating system reinstallation disc (USA only).

Hi there!

Today my laptop just turned off and beep a lot. I can turn it on, but my laptop is very slow...
I have Inspiron 5423 14z.
I ran a diagnostic, and It sad "the processor fan failed to respond".
Error code: 2000-0511
Validation: 98322
Msg: Fan - The (processorFan) Failed to respond correctly
I don't know what is the  probelem with the fan It's working, but my laptop running slow.
Please help me!

Hi,

I have been reading for about 2 hours on your site and I haven't found an answer to my problem, so here goes...

I have a Dell 600M Inspiron, which strangely when I turn it on it says it is a D600 Series Latitude. Well anyway, I recently opened it up and cleaned the fan because it was running hot and it has happened before so I cleaned out all the dust and put it back together. I turned it on and it acted like it was going to boot up, then it went to the "Windows did not start successfully" screen. I have tried to start it up in every mode, safe, safe with networking, Last good config, and start normally and it again acts like it wants to start up then goes back to the "Windows did not start successfully" screen again. Today I tried it about 12 times and I did get another screen that says "A disk read error occurred, Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart" and when I did that it went back to the "Windows did not" you know the one. Anyway, I did the F2 button on restart and I checked the screens, it says my Service Tag and Asset Tag are Not Installed.

Here are the specs on my laptop, let me know if you need to know about any other specs I didnít include.
Pentium M 2.00 GHz/600MHz
CPU speed 2.00GHz
Level 2 Cache 2048KB
System Memory 512MB @ 266MHz
Video Controller ATI Radeon 9000
Video Memory 32MB

This is going to be quite a long description. Flashback to about a year ago. My son and I were trying to hook up his computer to a dell external monitor. It only provides hdmi output, but we had a USB to the phone line thing. We thought we could hook it up by connecting the computer to the monitor with the phone line port in the computer to the USB port on the monitor. MAJOR MISTAKE. The whole computer when black. The screen wasn't lit, but the power indicator was on. Nothing else. We ended up fixing it, but don't know how anymore. Before we did this, on startup, we saw the black screen with Dell Inspiron on it. Afterwards, all i see is lines on the screen.
Now fast forward to now. Recently (last 8 months) when I turn on the computer, I get the lines on the screen and I hear this beeping. Accidently happened in a library. Librarian thought I had a bomb or something I was able to fix it by connecting the computer into a external screen by the hdmi. The screen would then light up.
Then a couple hours ago, all broke loose. I went into my room, hit the power button and got a response of the same lines on the screen, but a beeping. But then I noticed several more but different now green colored lines on the left side of my screen. I took it to my tv thinking that would fix it and got the computer screen up on the t.v. Hello,
I recently bought a new Dell U2515H Monitor which is capable of 2450x1440 resolution.
I connected it to my Dell Inspiron 14z 5423 laptop using HDMI (there's no DP on the laptop).
The 5423 comes with two display adapters: an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and dedicated AMD Radeon HD 7570M, which supports 2450x1440 resolution.
However, Windows only allows me set the external monitor's display up to 2048x1152 resolution.
Does this mean it uses the integrated card for the display?
Is there any way to fix this?
(All my drivers are updated to the latest versions)

! I purchased a Dell 5759 just a few months ago from Amazon. Since its purchase, the battery randomly cuts out at intervals of every few to several days with no triggering events.  I attempted to seek help a few times but apparently my service tag and express service code cannot be recognized by the system.  I've tried calling the Inpsiron help number, but for better or worse, the call is disconnected when my numbers cannot be recognized.
Now I get a Dell Power Management error that the system can no longer communicate with my battery.  It has ceased functioning en toto.  Without being able to register, I cannot get help for this issue, but when I go to email any kind of technical support, the Service Tag or Service Code are the gateway to having access to submitting a ticket.
I'm not sure what else to do at this point. This is a perfectly fine otherwise smooth running computer but I need the battery to work and not cut out at random intervals.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi. My service tag directs me to 7559. I think I installed one or two drivers of this model. Should I have installed 7577 drivers instead? Also, I'm not sure whether I have to install all the listed drivers.
And I'm having performance issues. Yesterday I was getting 60 fps in battlefield 1 and now I'm getting barely 30. Something happens when I close and reopen the lid of the laptop and this causes performance issues. Also, the temperatures don't go up when I'm getting low fps.
Not sure what this is about. Is it driver related?

Hello !!!.
Please sorry but I don´t speak English very well. I live in Argentina but I bought my Dell Inspiron in USA.
Few days ago my keyboard backlite stopped working and I don´t know why.
I have tested with Fn + F6 and enabling the windows mobility center and nothing .... there is no way to turn it on again. I have not made any kind of software or hardware changes these days.
Operating system Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 - Bios A17.
Someone will have some kind of information about it ???

Hi matalcacer,
To enable backlit follow these steps. Press < Fn >< F6 > once to turn on the keyboard back light. Press < Fn >< F6 > second time to decrease the brightness of the keyboard back light and pressing < Fn >< F6 > for the third time turns off the keyboard back light.
Incase this does not help, please update quickset and touchpad drivers to see if that helps.

Problem:
I can't get the graphics to switch to use the AMD dedicated card when 3D applications are being run. This has been confirmed by disabling the AMD card in device manager and seeing no difference from when it's enabled. It's also been confirmed by using utilities like HWMonitor that show no activity on the AMD card when running demanding 3D apps. Both cards exist in device manager

What I've tried

Installed the latest drivers from ATI, switchable graphics options are there but they don't switch
Removed both drivers in safe mode and allowed Windows to install the default ones. Using this method shows not switchable graphics options and it never worked.
Removed both drivers and installed the ATI driver from the Dell driver page (There's not one for Intel HD 4000). Switchable graphics option is there, but does not switch.
I've checked that Catalyst is setup correctly with the correct performance and power plans, to no avail. I've even tried the options to force high performance and they don't work.
I've tried solutions for my laptop and related hardware, to no avail:

Hi All, I hope somebody can help!

Dell 1520 Inspiron running vista home premium up to date with all updates except SP1.

I have vista set to automatic upgrading and this has worked well until I noticed that Sp1 had not installed. I tried to do it manually and it starts then after some time it aborts with the message
" An internal error occurred while installing the service pack" error number 800f081f.

I'velooked at the microsoft support page for this problem and have tried all the actions they recommend:

1. Downloaded full standalone SP1 multilanguage 32 bit
2. Disabled Avast (anti-virus)
3. perform hardware scan - no problems
4. run system file checker. Aborted during verification phase (10% complete) with error message "Windows resource protection could not perform requested operation".
5. run memory test - no problems
6. uninstalled avast and performed all the above with same results.

After each action I reboot the computer and tried to install from the standalone version I had downloaded.

My hunch is it could be something to do with the language support versions of vista (I don't know what Dell ship as standard in the UK) but don't know how to find out which one I have.

I've tried to post an email with microsoft but they only support the US And canada via e-mail.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi and welcome to BC!Disable the Windows Update Service by going clicking the Start (vista icon) button, and in the search box; type in "services.msc" (without the quotes). Scroll down to Windows Update and right click on it and select Stop.Then, go to C:/Windows and find the folder "SoftwareDistribution".Rename the folder to something like ?SoftwareDistribution.old?.Make a new folder called ?SoftwareDistribution?Go back to your Services window and start the Windows Update service.Then try to install it again.Regards,Adam
