windows7-32bit & windows7 64-bit

Q: windows7-32bit & windows7 64-bit

I purchased windows7 for when it comes out in Oct. My question is this
I have vista 32-bit and can do an inplace upgrade to windows7 32-bit.
Can I also do a dual boot and run windows7 64-bit on a second hdd? On the same machine!
Will I have to purchase a second key or would the same key work for both
32-bit and 64-bit?
If I install the 32-bit win7 can I upgrade to 64-bit using the same key or
do I have to purchase a second key to do This?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To the best of current thinking says the same key will work both 32 & 64 bit. you can dual boot both and should be able to use the same key.
Good luck and welcome to 7 Forum.

I support a user who is using a Dell OptiPlex 760 on a LAN. They work in the company?s Shipping and Receiving Department and were recently migrated to Windows 7 SP1 with IE v9.0. The user now states that, ?My Internet connection is lost at random on the computer. Upon rebooting the computer the internet returns, but then it will drop out again hours later.?

The scenario is that the user access the Internet during the morning hours, leaves their office area to make pickup/deliveries and returns to their office after several hours only to discover that the network card on the computer is no longer working (network connectively icon has a red x ? also, the NIC?s link light no longer shows any activity). In order to re-establish a network connection, they must reboot the system.

I have been attempting for several days now to resolve their issue. The things that I have done are:
1. Ensuring that the computer has the most recent critical Windows updates.
2. Downloading and installing the most current driver from Dell?s website for the system?s Intel Pro 100 NIC and Windows 7 32 bit
3. Downloading and installing the most current driver from Dell for the system?s Intel chipset and Windows 7 32 bit
4. Changing the Device Manager settings for Power Management of NIC to disabled
5. Ensuring the Windows Power Options are set for

Hi: First make your set of recovery media before proceeding to install W7. Then you need to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot. Then you have to install W7 using USB flash media.  It won't work from a DVD. Then you have to run this tool to put the USB3 drivers on your USB installation media. There is a readme link with instructions for how to use the tool and there are instructions for converting your Windows 7 installation DVD to a USB flash drive if you are not using a W7 USB installation flash drive. Make sure you choose the right file for what operating system you plan on running the tool on. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility

@arn-arn_zambo Your desktop came preinstalled with Win10, and the problem with the newer Win10 PCs is that HP does not provide any older Win7 drivers for their hardware. This means that unless everything works with the Win7 downgrade, you run the risk of being stuck with a PC in which some of the hardware does not function properly -- and most likely, never will. If you wanted a Win7 desktop, you should have looked around to buy one instead of a Win10 desktop.

Hi,

Motherboard: MSI, 870U-G55 (MS-7599), 5.0, To be filled by O.E.M.
Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011, Updated and Enabled

This has now put me in a position where i can upgrade to windows7 64bit! JOY!!

After updating my system i realised i must reinstall windows7 (32bit) back onto my computer thus creating a separate folder marked "windows.old" where all my files where now kept...

My question is that if i were to upgrade to 64bit (possibly using windows anytime upgrade service?) would i have to go through the process of reinstalling all my programs again?

N.B. The reason im doing this is because i have been informed that i will be able to use more of my 8GB RAM since you can see above it is only registering at appropriately 3GB.
Thanks in advance!

Will I lose files, programs, or settings when I install Windows 7?

An upgrade installation of Windows 7 will keep your files, programs, and settings in place. A custom (clean) installation doesn't preserve your files, programs, or settings. If you plan to do a custom installation of Windows 7, be sure to back up your files and other information first. You'll also need to manually reinstall your programs. I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.
And please if you have an answer, something for me to do, it needs to be A.B.C.'d out step by step as Im not an expert. But I guess I already proved that...
Thank you in advance.

grandtheft, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Looking at the specs for that HP,

HP Compaq dc5100 Business PCs - North America/Canada QuickSpecs

you are severely limited in what you can put in it. No AGP slot, no PCI-E x16 slot; and only has a couple of PCI slots and a single PCI-E x1 slot. About the best yuo're going to get without breaking the bank is something like this,

Newegg.com - PNY VCG84512D3SPPB GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

which while being rather on the old side now is still far and away better than the old integrated Intel you're likely using now. That and it also has Windows 7 support.

What must I do to have my 64bit Windows7 correctly display non-alpha numeric characters sent from a 32bit system? Example: transmitted "Don't" is received as "Don’t". Other characters produce similar 'rosary garbage.'

A:Displaying 32bit characters in 64bit Windows7

You need the same font installed on both systems.

Although the codes are the same, the characters those codes display vary considerably. The font interprets the codes. If you don't have the same font(s) installed you get different characters on your display.

I am trying to install a 64bit Windows 7 on my 32bit Vista computer... I have run the upgrade advisor thing and it said that it should all work...
I bought a Family Pack with 3 upgrades and it has both a disc marked "32-bit software" and one marked "64-bit software". I want to get the 64bit windows 7 home premium so I inserted the disk and tried to run the Setup.exe but I get an error saying

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I then tried to run the file as administrator and then get a different error saying

E:\setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

What am I doing wrong here?
I have already installed 1 of my licences on another computer but then I installed a 32-bit Windows 7... I know I have to do a clean install to go from 32bit to 64bit but shouldn't the disc work on my 32bit system? :S

A:Installing 64bit Windows7 on my 32bit Vista

Hello Azryel, welcome to Seven Forums!

There is no upgrade path from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows, it will have to be a clean install; have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If you have to upgrade because of data you don't want to lose on Vista you can use the 32-bit disk to do so.

Just to be clear, you have to boot the Windows DVD to do the install, it can't be run from within Windows, have a look at this tutorial at the link below.

Hi: You need these drivers... ethernet controller: This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp55083.exe pci device: This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones. File name: sp55085.exe smbus controller: I have zipped up and attached the driver you need for that below. Download and unzip the file to its folder.  Do not do anything with the files in the folder. Go to the device manager, and click on the smbus controller needing drivers. Click on the driver tab, click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

I am running windows 7 32bit
Print spooler has continued to be unavailable, when i start it manually and try to refresh the devices/printers page it stops..
error code 7031 or 7034 print spooler has terminated unexpectedly (in event viewer)
I have searched online and found a ton of things, I have tried the following:

I have tried using a differnt user profile, no change
i have tried 8 different restore points going back 3 months.. no change
i deleted all files in c:\windows\system32\spooler\PRINTERS
I deleted all filed in c:\windows\systerm32\spooler\drivers
I edited the registry in hkey-local\system current-control-set\control\print\environments\winNT x86\version3 (deleted all subkeys)

I am about to reimage the system at this point but i wanted to post this as a last chance since a re-image and app reinstall, and domain setups would take at least 10 hours i am hoping someone can help, since it was printing just 2 days ago.. the only thing
that was done was a network printer was installed, but at this point all printers and drivers have been removed by the above mentioned methods.

After a lot of net searching I have found the solution.
It is not understandable why DELL does not provide drivers for Inspiron N5110 for Win 7 32 bit?
Me and a friend of mine recently got the Inspiron N5110 laptop with i3, 3gb, 500 gb. We installed win 7 64 bit as only its drivers were listed on the website.
But 64 bit causes problems while running hi-tech softwares like Matlab and Xilinx (Yes, I am an engineer ). So I had to move to win7 32 bit.
But Win7 32 bit drivers are not available on web. My friend got a solution for this. He found that almost all the win7 32 bit drivers for Vostro 3350 and 3550 are compatible for Dell Inspiron N5110. I download and installed them and they are working on my laptop very well.
You need the following drivers. The actual files are named like R161139,exe, no description. the description is added by me.

(I wasn't sure which sub-forum to ask this question in, hope in here is OK.)

A:Windows7 64 reading windows7 32 drive?

Hi Jaibird,

A hard disk is not 32-bit or 64-bit and does not depend upon the installed OS.

Yes, in some parts and no in others.
You can access files/folders from the partition Hard Disk (Documents, Photos, Favourites).. But you cannot get the messages saved in outlook.

Be advised that the (Documents, Photos, Favourites) will NOT merge into your current Windows 7 64-Bit.

My laptop runs an AMD Turion II, 4 GB RAM, and Windows 7. I need to connect to a VPN that runs on DOS where I can use the netuse command. I've tried using DOS-Box and Virtual Box. DOS-Box is supposed to be a 16-bit emulator but appears to be just used for games. I couldn't get Virtual Box to allow me to load DOS onto the virtual drive.
Does anyone have any ideas that can help me with my quest?

Hi All,
I am an experienced user and can normally fix my own problems...But. I have an older MSI K9AGM board and want to use a gt240. I currently have a PNY 9600GSO overclocked 768 meg card. Runs like a champ. I have 550 watt power supply but there is no donngle to card. Unlike the 9600GSO. I plug it in after I installed the PNY drivers and Windows begins to load. It freezes without displaying the four lights that become the win logo. I reset and get the system repair option so I attempt it. It freezes.
I then take the thing and put it in my kids intel p4 board. Also MSI 945GCM478-L. He is running Vista Home premium. Begins same problem after installing the PNY driver and reboot but his system repair works. Fixes problem card is great. But i can't get it in my 7 box. I have updated all drivers and I mean all. I have to wonder since my board has ATI drivers if the problem isn't the geforce versus ATI i have seen for years. But it really doesn't solve the system repair not working. Either drivers fighting or broken files and a forced reformat and reinstall.
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Great Gurus of win7 world and ask for help.
Thanks in advance.

A:PNY GT 240 and Windows7

Welcome to Seven Forums donnietr. When I installed my GT 240 (see my system specs). I just installed the card, and let windows find the driver, which it did. After I got it working, I then went to nVidia site and downladed latest Windows 7 driver. Suggest you uninstall the nVidia drivers AND any ATI drivers. If needed to remove ATI drivers, this is for advanced users:

Catalyst Uninstaller

Try installing without install CD. See if windows finds the card natively, then update driver at nVidia site:

Sorry, can't include information beyond what I'm typing as can't get past Windows logo screen before OS goes into page
that states "Windows can't start" and requests either Repair or log on normally. Can't do either. Tried Repair, states
can't repair and identifies problem as Windows Defender Offline. This is the last program I ran prior to having problems.
OS suggests recovery but OS won't do that either; suggests removing new hardware (none) or recently installed software
(only Windows Defender Offline is new) and can't get at Control panel to remove it.
Running Dell Laptop Studio 1537 with Win7 Pro legal copy. Would like to get around this without losing my data, if possible,
but have Win7 Pro if must reinstall. Any suggestions?

A:Windows7 won't log on

Can you boot into Safe Mode? Press F8 after the bios quickly? See if you can get into that mode?

How do I remove my password temporarily as I am required to enter my password each time I turn on the computer? If I leave the computer for 10 minutes when I come back I have to enter my password.
This is a pain as I am the only person using this machine.

A:Windows7 log on

Why only temporarily if you are the only user? I go to Control Panel, User Accounts and Change your password, just leave it blank if I don't want one. It can be restored in the same place, just type the password desired but DON'T forget it.

I have made this poll, because, I use now Windows Xp home and I must buy a new Motherboard, my meaning is than too, when I finished with searching for mobo and the other components, than is it maybe also smart, when I buy a new O.s.
But I buy this only, when I do know your experiences.
When the results from the poll is bad, than I waiting for W8 and use until the W8 is there, Windows Xp.

A:O.S. Windows7

I have seen that 6 people vote on my poll for yes and 1 for no, that are not so much votes, I am sure that are more people they can tell me their experiences.
When someone say no on my poll, than is it the meaning that he or she let me know, why he or she said no.
We are here on the forum for help together and help is also give your opinion on a poll and write your results by no.
So I do hope, that are more people will give their opinion, it is not the meaning that I doing a bad investment.
Building a computer is not cheap and when you buy a product that is not so good, than is that not so fine.
Votes from lot of people, help me much further.
Come on guys, ladies too of course, give me your votes, please.

Thank you.

I have vista64 ultimate. System meets compatibility requirements for windows7. Used for games such as Crysis, MOULa, LOTRO, MS Flight, Avatar the game, etc. Active email, blogging, etc. No business. Will windows7 home premium edition do? Or shoud I go for Professional or Ultimate, all 64bit? UPgrade or complete new install? I can download current documents and pics, games, etc. that I want to keep. Where to buy? MS home is expensive; cheaper at locations on NextTag, but??? I only want legal programs. What else should I consider,do? Should I even change?

A:which windows7?

Out of curiosity I just checked the price for a Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Upgrade from Vista Ultimate 64-bit and it is expensive at $183 !!! If you don't need all of the extra business stuff, a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM only costs $99. I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium and I have no problems with any of the latest games. I have Crysis, MoH, MW, MW2, BC2, and Black Ops all running at max settings. The only difference with an OEM license is that it doesn't come with the free Microsoft support for the first 90 days that an upgrade version comes with, but with sites like this... who really needs Micro$oft?

I am asking on behalf of a friend who sent me this question today -- thought maybe someone here might have AOL and experienced the same thing and might know of a fix -- here's the situation:

It seems that when someone having windows 7 sends an email to a person using XP, there can sometimes be no scrollbar in the email. Have you ever heard of that or know the fix? It makes the email impossible to read unless the receiver forwards it to them selves

I do not have AOL and do not have this problem, but maybe an AOL user could respond to this.

I'd appreciate any input please.

Thanks

A:Windows7 and AOL

This may not be what your friend is talking about, but I have a cousin that uses AOL and I get a lot of email from him like that. Right below the address bar will be a paperclip and some words that is the subject of the email with .eml as an extension. If she double clicks that she will then see the message.

This is true for what I get from my cousin and all he does is forward junk. A normal email may not be that way from AOL.

I don't think you can. Just return the disc and buy the Windows 7 Professional Anytime Upgrade from Amazon: Amazon.com: Microsoft Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade (Home Premium to Professional) [Online Code]: Software

Who plans to move over to Windows7 when released? Do you plan on using it as your primary OS? Dual boot it? Use it on a test machine? Are you looking forward to the release? Do you feel it is Vista fixed?

A:Windows7

Well I am using Windows 7 as well as Windows XP and I must admit so far it is way to much better than Windows Vista...
Even it is in beta phase, I think 7 is better than Vista SP1 hehe...
I am planing to move to Windows 7 when Microsoft release... Dual boot with XP of course =)
It has some bugs but it is just beta phase, it will be fixed when release comes, I hope =)
