I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All,

I have been asked to learn about Microsoft clusters by my company and don't really know where to start.

Can anyone provide any links or help for the following set up please?

2 servers running at the same time with an external database on a disk array which both servers connect to seperatly (one active one passive at all times).

Any help will be muchly appreiciated.

Hi people

I have a problem with my servers they are both 2k advanced both are using Pentium3 1ghz processor one has 1.5gb of mem and the other 2gb of ram.

My problem is i am running an e-mail service of which both servers is running lansuite 2004 with around 100 users one is processing incoming mail only, the other processors web mail access and pop3 etc.

The SMTP server processor is idle 98% of the time but the other server the processor is constanly at 95-100% in use and is heavily system resource deprived. I was considering if the cluster service that comes with 2k server would help this. I.e share processing load.

Please advise as i don`t want to waste time setting it up then finding out it won`t work or makes little or no difference.

Thanks in advanced

A:Clustering windows 2k advanced server

With that much memory I am not sure why your are running at that high of a CPU load. I really doubt clustering will help much. Are you running OWA for webmail access? There can be a lot of optimization done to IIS to make it use resources better.

I am looking for a script that will dynamically update Windows 2003 DNS (AD) to the second server when the first server fails. The servers are appliance servers (not windows).

Does anyone have a script to do this?

Example of script function:
1. ping first server every 10 seconds
2. if no ping reply for 60 seconds DDNS the search.x.com DNS A and PTR record to the second box.
3. if the first server becomes available again for 120 seconds then DDNS the search.x.com DNS A and PTR record to the first box again.

I am trying to setup the Failover where it plays a video file (mpeg2 with transport stream) upon failure. If I set this file to play as a file, it works fine, but then stops when finished. What I would like to do is have this file loop continuously until the network is re-connected. I have tried to set up a playlist, but it does not work. My playlist was created using notepad and is entitled ASIC .txt

Settings ….

Backup Channel ….. Playlist
URL box is ………. file:///mnt/usb/sda1/mediafile/React (have also entered React.txt)

My txt file is attached, but is ….

media:file:///mnt/usb/sda1/ASIC .mpg
Any help would be gratefully received. Alternatively, is there a way to get the single file (that works) to continuously loop?

A:Failover from USB

There may be a way to script something to work like you want, but the script would be a lot more complicated than simply "play x". It will also need to check to see if the alarm has cleared and then stop playback. But it will largely depend on what exactly you are doing (or trying to do) as you haven't provided near enough details for anyone to help.

I have a friend who is working in a ancient classroom environment using XP PCs on old hardware.  I am interested in setting up a cluster of these XP pcs (Not using a server OS) to share drive & CPU power.  I've seen some 3rd party apps that
I am not sure about and was wondering what options does my friend have?
The school doesn't have any funds to implement any VDI due to costs.  The school is scraping the bottom of the barrel as it is just for basic items so they have no interest in any IT related funds.
I understand a real cluster environment requires a server OS + proper hardware but I'm looking for a 3rd party freeware / cheapware solution.
Is there any such option to cluster hardware without a server?

What is clustering? (Hence the Subject Line). How does it work? All I know is it belongs in the Networking board.

A:What is Clustering?

Clustering is configuring a group of PCs or servers to act as a single unit for load balancing and high availability. When it was first introduced MS referred to it as "wolf packing".

hi everyone, how can i setup automatic fail over for this diagram.A and B are different ISP suppliers and we dont have to access for edit router configuration.both are leased lines.thank your very much for your support.

A:automatic failover

Many business class router/firewalls have feature called SLA where you can program a secondary Internet circuit as a backup to the primary. The router/firewall will do a continuous health check on the primary circuit to a designated site you choose on the Internet. If there is anything that drops under the threshold you set, the router/firewall will roll over the Internet connections over to the secondary circuit.

I'm not sure if the SMB router/firewalls which advertise themselves as dual WAN ports can operate in this manner. I do know their basic operation is to do a round robin or if link status for the primary fails will roll over to the secondary WAN port.

I have a customer that has their main branch in Ohio and they have another branch if Florida. They are wanting to have something in place that would have one server take over the other if something happens to the main server.
Ohio loses power, they want the Florida server to kick on and act as the server in Ohio.

so the servers would have to sync on the fly. This is called clustering right? If it is not clustering what is it called? How expensive is it to do this over the internet? The servers are both running Sco Openserver.

A:Clustering Question

Clustering's part of it. Kinda screwed with SCO Opensever, however. There are other ways of making that work, though.

How quick do they want the data?
Do they want instantaneous failover?
What type of data is this?
How does replication need to occur? Syncronous or Asyncronous?
How much are they willing to pay?

Disaster recovery ultimately comes down to a TCO calculation. How much does downtime cost the company? Once you know that figure, it's much easier to architect a solution.

I initially thought Microsoft clustering but everything I have read says it is terrible. I'm researching information for a clustering project where I work, and I've been unable to find any ready-made external drive units for the shared drivespace that are even remotely in our budget -- the ones I've come across seem to be the Yahoo-level rack-mounted systems starting at 10's or even 100's of thousands of $.

If I can't find something cheaper, I might try to build my own in a case, or just go with network load sharing, and not do this type of clustering (we will be running two identical W2000 Adv servers), though it's nice to be able to update software without actually taking the system down.

I'll be happy to go into more detail, but I don't want to lay it all out if nobody's messed with this before.

I'm new to the forum. However, I really need help on my Vista OS on an HP desktop PC. I am getting the following reports:
1. "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

2. "Problem signature - 01 Auto Failover"

I have read some of the responses to this problem and have 2 problems. First, I am a novice when it come to this sort of thing, and next, my PC did NOT come with a disc.

Question: Obviously, Vista is Trash ie, most of the responses, and so is 7. However, since 7 seems to be the only option to upgrade to, how do I do that after purchasing a 7 upgrade disk, if I can even do it???

By the way, a common problem I find in your threads is the downloading of photos, which is the last thing I did before my PC crashed.

Also, will I lose "My Documents" if I can an upgrade???

If ANYONE would be so kind as to offer me some advice (in NOVICE Terms Please , I would greatly appreciate it.

I am new to all of this, I have been thrust into a situation where I need to figure this out.

We have a 2800 connected to a microwave transceiver (our main uber fast connection) and a T1 via ADC Kentrox Data Smart Max T1 (our backup connection)

This is what I walked in to.

What we/I would like to do:
-continue using the MW as our main connection
-use the T1 as an automatic failover if the MW fails due to weather or other event.
-if possible, I would like to take the T1 directly to the Cisco 2800 bypassing other external equipment.

I believe we intend to drop our current provider.

Additional complication:
We are hosting our own website and customer services via the web via this connection, if failover occurs how can we assure that traffic still finds its way to us?

With all of that said, what do we need to do?

I know this is a huge issue and I hope I can look to this forum for guidance on these issues.

So, after long thinking and struggling alone on making this happen, I though I could need a helping hand.

In short, I want to develop an application, which would make beowulf and high-performance computing clusters easy to build, and accessible to everyone owning an electronic device with some sort of CPU and some sort of RAM.

Just to mention, I am only beginning to look into programming. I have no previous experience in this domain. Any help is appreciated.

To carry on, I found Open MPI. I found it's a library, and looked up what a library was.

Now, I am wondering how I can implement this library into a working application, much like OpenMosix.

But the only thing is that I want to make it work on more operating systems than Unix and Linux, including Windows; Machintosh is included, not to mention all the other less popular OSes and mobile devices. Applications on all platforms would sill work seamelessly, as they would be on the same OS.
I was thinking of using all the types of interconnections possible, from high-end ones to low-end ones, like InfiniBand, CAT5, CAT6, and CAT7 Ethernet, and even wireless technologies like WiFi, WiMAX, and Bluetooth; the user would be able to choose the percentage of how much of each of his or her type of ressource available on his or her system, the user wants to share; the user would be able to choose to join an existing cluster on the Internet, or to make a private cluster, and to leave a joined cluser anytime. i see this being done for other fields, but can a GPU graphics card cluster be used for gaming?

A:graphics card GPU clustering?

You'd probably be more informed by simply goggling your question as I did, It seems their is a lot of information on it.
Most of it is about using it for medical imaging uses, reason being that it's just simply overkill for the computations needed for gaming
One site clustered 4 dual GPU's in order to render MRI images from a single computer, speed of the rendering was the reason for clustering the 4 dual GPU's.
Then theirs the cost and the fact that special code had to be written to take advantage of the calculations needed for what they were trying to achieve.

Also for gaming purposes their are already boards out that can handle 4 GPU's( which would be considered a cluster of sorts) but you also have to take into consideration bottlenecking since all calculations have to be processed through your CPU and RAM not to mention the game can only be rendered to whatever limit it has been written for.
For instance once you have the game set at all the highest settings more GPU rendering power is no longer needed.

As you question stated you've seen this being used in other fields, but if you think about it it's already being used in gaming when you can run TRI SLI or Quad SlI, which is a cluster of GPU's in itself.

So my GUESS is yes you can use a cluster of GPU's since Quad SLI is available on certain MB's
But then again I could just be way off base that is why I suggest you search for your answer yourself (not trying to be rude) http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...27s+... Read more

I am reading about Clustering in Win2000 Adv Server and a little confused as to why some companies choose the "Hot Spare" solution where one server of a two server cluster does nothing but wait until the main server goes down and then take its place, when the could have the same two server "Load Balanced" cluster where both servers serve the requests making client request faster and as in the "Hot Spare" solution if one server goes down the other still functions !

I need to configure my router for three routes ( two separate fiber links and a radio link) with one of the fiber links being the primary link, the other fiber a secondary route and the radio a backup route for the fibers.

I am looking for a best fail-over configuration that will allow traffic to flow primarily on fiber link A and failover to fiber link B incase of failure in link A and incase of failures of both fiber links, the traffic to flow on the Radio Link. The configuration should allow for reverse once the fibers are restored.

I link my Windows home PCs (7 and some XP) to a separate file server box via a persistent network mapping. There's a separate mirroring server in place on the network too.

If one server goes down, theres an undignified scramble to remap drives so that work can recommence - but is there a quick way to have Windows 7 pick up the job of determining primary and secondary availability to speed this?

I know I could probably do something involved and complex via a virtual server and clustering but I'd prefer something simple and client-side if possible !

A:Quick and dirty way for alternate failover server?

I thought the basis of this type of RAID setup is to redirect traffic from a primary to a secondary without interruptions. I didn't think you would need to do anything if the setup is correct.

We have a fairly unstable Internet connection through Dodo (Please no quips about peanuts and monkeys, I know Dodo is a terrible ISP). They, and Telstra have refused to fix the problems, preferring instead to blame my equipment, despite the fact that I have replaced every part of the network many times over. Line noise on the connection is terrible, and causes anything up to 30+ disconnections a day, from anywhere between 10 seconds to 90 minutes.

As my sons play a lot of online gaming, disconnections not only kill the game, but also get them demoted on the servers.

So, they have a 3G mobile phone with 1.5GB data allowance per month.

But we are having problems finding any software (preferably FREE), that will let us set up a fail over environment such that when the PPPoE connection fails it switches to 3G, and automatically reverts to PPPoE when that service comes back online.

Any one know of any software that meets this need?

Hello members,

I have a HP Pavillion running Vista Home Premium SP2. On this laptop machine I have installed VMware Workstation for virtualization and have 3 Windows 2003 virtual machines installed in the VMware software environment. My LAN is connected to Belkin DSL router. I am trying to define and test mirosoft cluster services.

My problem is with assigning static IP addresses for the Windows Server2003 hosted virtual machines. If I allow dynamic IP assignment all my VM machines are able to access the internet, ping each other successfully. However, Microsoft documentation that I have read (and other MVP blogs and cluster articles) recommend that for the private network adapter (this is the local area connection #2 on each node of the cluster), I should use static IP addreses of for the first node and for the second cluster node. I have tried to do just that but finding that using the IP address of 10.* I lose access to the internet, and all pings of the VM machines fails. But if I use a static IP address of 192.168.*.*, I regain access and all pings works.

A few questions that may help me resolve this issue:

(1) Do I really need (is it a must, so to speak) to use the IP of and What's the difference between a class A and class C IP addresses? Why can't I just use 192.168.*.* that seems to work?

On every attempt it came back as a "Bad Driver" as the issue. On my last attempt to boot it finally went through to windows, but things are randomly crashing. I checked AVG, which says resident shield isn't active and it cannot turn itself on. I tried to run several scans and they all fail automatically saying that they were terminated. I ran Malwarebytes and it did not find anything. I would appreciate any help that I could receive.

When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
.rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

I have 25 files and folders on my desktop but only 15 are visible when viewing the desktop directly. All of them are visible when viewing the desktop in Windows Explorer. I have two monitors configured as one and keep all desktop items on one of them. I've tried selecting everything with CTL-A while on the desktop and moving them around as a group, to see if the missing ones might have somehow scrolled off the screen, but that doesn't reveal them.

Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks.

I own a one year old Toshiba Tecra i5 laptop.
Recently when I save anything to the desktop, I can save the file but not a new shortcut.

I can no longer create a new desktop icon manually, and new icons are no longer created
automatically as they always had been in the past.

I work off my desktop a lot, so this has become a real pain. Any ideas?
A solution would be greatly appreciated.

A:Can't create new desktop icons when saving to desktop in Windows 7

Here are some things you can try.

Click on the desktop and press F5.
Righ-click on the desktop > view > and uncheck "show desktop icons" then check it again.
Reload the icon cache.
In windows explorer make sure hidden files are shown. To do this go to:
Tools > folder options > view > select show hidden files, folder, and drives.
then go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local (replace "username" to your username)
and delete IconCache.db
Then reboot.

Hi. I'm a Windows 8 newbie, so go easy on me .

I'm trying to RDP from my new Windows 8 laptop to an XP desktop, both of which are on my home network. When I try, I get the below error...

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

As best as I can tell, none of the conditions above is true. Here is what I have looked at so far...

- On the XP machine, in System settings / Remote, "Allow users to connect to this system" is Checked. I have successfully RDP'd to this machine in the past, but this is the first time I've tried from the Windows 8 machine.

- From the Windows 8 machine, I can ping the XP machine, and I can access a shared drive on the XP machine. In fact, I've been moving files between the XP machine and the Windows 8 machine, in both directions, all day.

- Just to eliminate another potential issue, I have set the username and password on the Windows 8 machine to match that on the XP machine.

Incidentally, XP machine is running XP Pro, 2002, SP3.

Thanx in advance for any suggestions to diagnose and resolve this.

I have windows xp home edition on both of my computers, and they do have a remote desktop program, but ive found out that windows xp pro actually has a better version of it that will actually work. I cant get the windows xp home version of it to work. Is there anyone that knows of a free remote desktop program, or if someone would be able to send the windows xp pro version of the remote desktop program.

A:Free Remote Desktop Program, or how to get windows remote desktop to work

XP Home has "Remote Assistance", while XP Pro has both "Remote Desktop", as well as "Remote assistance". You can download from Microsoft, a Remote Desktop "add on" which will enable your computer to become the "client" but not the "server".

can you provide some details about what you've done to get "remote assistance " up and running?

Hello all,
I have that error message and the desktop doesn't load fine, no icons, no background etc, I read some fix about going into the C:/users and delete a blank desktop there (if you see 2 desktops) but I only see one (full of icons and stuff), this issue doesn't
happen that often but obviously is annoying when it does, if someone have any idea, I would appreciate that.

I recommend you to temporarily disable all the third party security programs
and boot in Clean Boot and
Safe Mode to test the issue.
If everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem.
Proceed with the remaining steps to pin-point out the third party service.
In addition, you can create a new user accouter and see if the issue persists.
If it works in a new user account then you need to fix the corrupt user profile. Visit this link for the steps:

For this issue, I suggest you provide as many details as you can about the problem you are experiencing.
Did you receive the error message when you start up your computer or try to save to the Desktop?
If so, I suggest you try clean boot to check the result.
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista:
If the issue persists, I suggest you create a new user account to test it.
Create a user account
If it works in a new user account ,you need to fix the corrupt user profile.
Copy the previous user profile into the new one, you can refer to the steps on this link:
