I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. I have Windows 7 installed on my PC and I wanted to install my old copy of Vista using VMware, it all worked fine, but it's not activating. I called three times and after entering all the numbers it says something about no one is available to assist me. I don't understand in the past when I had to reinstall Vista, I would also call and activate without a problem. Now it doesn't want too. I don't have it installed anywhere else.

Any suggestions?

I don't need help, I just wanted to post my solution.

I recently setup the latest version of Vmware player on Ubuntu 13.04 and found myself unable to download the tools for it. error try again later or something along those lines. I searched about online for answers but google only presented 1 relevant topic and it didn't have a solution. Anyways I've discovered how to get around this, it's quite obvious really, I feel dumb for taking so long to figure it out. Lauch VMware player as root, then the tools will download successfully. Hopefully this will save someone a world of heart-ache.

Hi all

To install W8 developer edition (current version) as a VM with vmware workstation you have to download / upgrade to version 8. Version 7.1X and earlier won't work. Vmware player (current version) gives same problem as vmware workstation 7.1x.

When you install choose W7 as the OS (there isn't a W8 option yet not surprisingly) and select I will install the OS later.

Then select the DVD device in the vm serttings as a virtual ISO (you don't need to burn a physical DVD) and boot from the device.

Then it will install more or less as W7.

Ignore any prompt for a product key if it appears. I wasn't asked for one but some people seem to get a request for a product key when attempting to install W8 as a virtual machine.

You can download a free trial version for 30 days from the vmware site. ( it may be that eventually version 7.1x will work or the next upgrade of W8 will work so unless you want to upgrade to version 8 of vmware workstation I'd start with downloading the trial).

Then it installs OK

I don't have enough privileges yet to upload screenshot but it installs fine.

I've also posted a suggestion on how to remove / disable the metro gui for those that want a more "classical" Windows look - you can see the post in the W7 Forum until I can get approval to post in the relevant section on this Forum on customising W8

If host:

I had problems with strange performance and network slowness issues before caused by vmware player.
If you want to increase performance and see if disabling the network adapters solves the issue, see here:

I keep getting an IP Address Conflict on my network due to my laptop having the wifi card and 2 VMware connections that keep getting assigned an IP. I have tried to manually delete these VM connections but when I try it tells me it can not delete this connection. How can I remove these VMware Connections?

I know I could just manually assign an IP address to my wireless card, but that is to difficult as the IP for my home network is not in the "acceptable range" as my work network.

I want to connect several VM's mainly Cisco router to same network adapter (vmnet1 host-only network adapter) and want to pass multiple VLAN's as Tagged. I am able to achieve this requirement through bridged network adapter but unable to do so through host-only
adapter. I am using Windows 7 as main OS and VMware Workstation 11.
I have gone through several tech forums but unable to find answer for it. Though in multiple forums one statement was common that Windows will strip the VLAN information when packet received/transmits through network adapter.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

I'm missing the Network adapter on device manager after re-installing vista, so i can't access the internet.

Heres the computer details:
Intel (R) core(TM) 2 Duo cpu, Pro E4400 @ 2.00GHZ, Ram 2047 32Bit.
Motherboard ATK0110 ACPI, i also have a Geoforce 8400GS graphics card attached.

In device manager there isn't a drop down tab for network adapters? only other devices where it shows Ethernet controller, when i click that and try to install it tells me the driver is not installed and it can't find it (code 28).

Any ideas where i can get the driver to re-install?

thanks

Hi there. I recently have had hard drive failure, and I am in need of an upgrade.
However, I'm not sure what I should get...

I have been referred to this site:
Best High-End Gaming PC | Hardware Revolution
Best Mainstream Gaming PC | Hardware Revolution

I think I have narrowed it down in my amateur opinion to:
Amazon.com: Samsung Desktop Class Spinpoint F3 1 TB SATA 3.0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare-OEM Drives, HD103SJ: Electronics
or
Amazon.com: Western Digital 1 TB WD Blue SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive: Computers & Accessories

According to that website, the Spinpoint is very reliable, and the SATA 6.0 is mostly useless. I've read elsewhere that a 32mb cache vs. a 64mb cache will not make a difference either. Secondly, I have heard that WD has horrible support, and that is exactly what I'm switching from. Also, I really only need 500GB, but the 1TB is about the same price, or cheaper. SSD is too expensive for me right now, and I'd like to keep it less that 100$.

Is there another hard drive I should be looking at?
If not, which one should I get?

A:Need new Hard Drive, choices, choices...

I recently bought this one Newegg.com - Seagate Constellation ES ST500NM0011 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive It is one of the few remaining HDDs with a 5 year warranty and enterprize class is designed to run 24/7. I've had no problems with it.

Just a thought, I've had 2 HDD failures in my PC experience of about 18 years, both were WD.

I took help from this website:-
How to install Windows 10 in VMware Workstation - Howali.com

I am confused with two things;-

The first one is what is Split virtual disk into multiple files. I have read that it reduce performance that's why I am more worried about it.

Whether it will affect my pc performance, what if I select Store virtual disk as a single file. Is this option good to go for.

The second confusion is about hardware configuration. Because I am using a Dual core pc with 4 gb of RAM. What would be the best customization option if I want to install Windows 10?

Urgent help needed please!

hey guys, i'm about to re-install windows and format my drive, but i was wondering if there's any reason to boot up and go through the hassle of installing different OS' when i want to try something out? it just seems so much easier and efficient to just do everything in a VMware machine? of course this assumes the hardware is up to the task.

thanks guys

A:VMware: Any reason to install an OS instead of using a virtual PC?

If you just want to try the different flavours of OS then you could be right, a VM is the method I’d choose. You’ve already recognized that there are the limitations of the hardware. Beyond performance issues, you may want to consider issues of peripheral devices as the VM is using the host ‘adaptors’.

In what a problem?
Does Vista not allow usage of physical disks in VMware if you want to install the OS on physical disk?

Note: While installing the guest operating system on a physical disk, if your virtual machine does not boot from the CD-ROM, try changing the boot order in the virtual machine's BIOS. Restart the virtual machine, then press F2 while the virtual machine is booting to enter the BIOS. Change the boot order there.

Heya,

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64.

I tried to install VMWare Server when I came across a very big problem.

It has 4 drivers that weren't installed b/c Vista x64 requires that they be signed.

Is there a way around this, or am I just not allowed to have VMWare Server?

If it's not possible, I'm open to other alternatives. Assuming it's free like VMWare Server. :P

thanks!

A:VMWare server & Vista x64???

The Drivers are:

VMware kernel driver

VMware USB monitor

VMware network API driver

VMware bridge driver
Obviously these are pretty important, so I need to find a way to get them in there, without having to do the F8 option on every boot. These drivers are 64-bit, so did the publisher just not sign them?

I use VMWare with a Vista install and it works just great. I used it to test how Vista would run on my machine, it does run but slowly. You will be able to access all your main computers functions from the 'kiosk' though there are caveats. Can I use the key on the OEM sticker of my laptop to activate Windows Vista HP on VMWare? I updated my laptop to Windows 7 HP, so that means the key should work right?

A:Activate Vista in VMWare?

There's no harm in trying. At the very most, it'll tell you the key is invalid. Here's the thing; most OEM installations don't just use keys. There's a special marker, or string, embedded in the BIOS that they look for. VMWare/Virtual PC provide their own virtual BIOS, so it may or may not work. I think according to the EULA it should be allowed.

Hello, i would like to ask another question about licensing.

I've bought Laptop with preinstalled Vista Home Basic OEM. I know, that OEM license forbids to use this copy of Vista on other machines.
But does it allows me to use it on Virtual Machine instead of on my hard drive. (in fact virtual machine is an "other machine"). I would like to admitt, that i won't be using two copies of Vista, (one on the hard drive, and the other on virtual machine) but only one.

I asked about that, on other Windows-related forum, and the man, who answered me, told that license doesn't allow me to use it on virtual machine, but he wasn't sure.

Ok, here goes the story.

I?m running Ultimate 64bit on the following spec;

I work as an Applications Developer and I have a development environment set up in a virtual machine running Ultimate 32bit. You may ask why i have things set up this way?... well VPN (which i use a lot) is not supported in a 64bit flavour and the same can be said about Visual Studio 2008 & SQL Server.
Anyway, getting to the point, the Virtual Machine running Vista32bit has a RAM allocation of 1 gig but there is a lot of memory swapping going on between the VM and the host OS to the point of a system freeze until i can kill a process or two the free up memory. So what i want to do is strip everything out of the guest OS that uses unnessecary memory ie fancy looking desktop etc.
Can someone give me some pointers?

Well, first problem I see is that you only allocated 1G to the VM. What I would do, is get some more memory in the system, 8G (hell memory is cheap now) and allocate at LEAST 2G to the VM, preferably 4G.

Just my opinion, but I run Vmware on Ultimate64 also, and I use the setup I described, although I am not a app developer.

Can some one help me tell how to configure so that it directly fetches the web pages loaded in the web server instead of modem configuration page.

Thanks and regards

A:Config of D-Link 502T with VMware on WinXP, Ubuntu Server on VMWare!

If this is from a remote location, are you sure you have disabled remote administration in the router?

A:Which VMware workstation player to install on windows 10

VMware workstation is at version 12.1 and can be installed Windows 10,8,or 7 64 bit only, They stopped making 32 bit versions of VMware Workstation at 10.1 and that can be installed on Windows 10,8,or 7 32 bit computers.

Yes you can run almost any version of Windows on it and also most versions of Linux, I think it is even possible to run Android 86 but I'm not sure I haven't tried Android yet

After downloading VMware player 2.5.5-328052 yesterday & during the install phase my screen turned blue with a message "something went wrong with your PC & needs to restart" (close wording to that). After restarting VMware player is not listed in Programs & Features in C/Panel. I am unable to uninstall & the player will not start. Any thoughts please?

A:VMware Player did not install correctly on Windows 10

Try installing it again. The first install is probably corrupted.

Hi guys,

I have just upgraded my Windows 7 Unlimited OS to Windows 10 and when tried to install Vmware Player 7 to 11 versions, it gave me one same error as you can see below:

What might be the reason for this? I never came across in such situation previously. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Vmware Player 7-11 cannot install on Windows 10 after upgrade from 7

I found what was the reason for this error - Windows 10 is 32 bit after the upgrade of 7 32 bit. Need to change it to 64 as my laptop is on 64.

You will probably have to buy a legal XP CD. They can be found on EBAY.

Hi there
When creating a Virtual Machine with vmware rel 8 and using the CREATE NEW VIRTUAL MACHINE Wizard installation will loop if you enter the product key before installing.

DO NOT ENTER THE PRODUCT KEY prompted by the create Virtual Machine Wizard

If you do you get message a short while into the install process -- Cannot read Product key from the unattended setup file and it will reboot and try again and again.

Just create the VM manually (i.e don't use the Create Virtual Machine Wizard) and enter product key as you would with a normal version of Windows.

Cheers

I have an ADSL Internet Connetion via ethernet in Windows XP Pro + sp2
I installed VMware5.5 Workstation (and later updated to version 6) in Windows XP with a vmware bridged internet connection.

I created a new virtual machine in preparation for installing vista Ultimate with all the necessary devices including a vmware ethernet device. No problems with the install, just can't get an internet connection, I checked all devices in the device manager all working fine and checked the network bridge fine too. where am I falling short? :

I want to test the "waters" before deciding whether or not to dive into to Vista or dual booting with XP. So If you can help it would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am running Vista Business x64 on a Dell Precision M4300 and recently tried to upgrade my VMware Workstation 6 for Windows to the most recent version. I had the previous version of VMware running fine on my machine with no problems on the host or virtual machine which was running Ubuntu. After I upgraded, once I rebooted the keyboard no longer worked.

I was able to use the virtual keyboard function from the logon screen to get back into my machine and then used system restore to get me back to where I was previously before I tried to update VMware. I reinstalled the previous version of VMware at this point, but got the same results. So for now, I am not installing VMware again until I can find a good solution. Was wondering if anyone else out there has encountered the same problems and if there is a fix? Thanks for your time.

Hi I tried installing vmware workstation 5.5 on Vista Ultimate, The installation failed and now if I try running the uninstaller my computer crashes into a BSOD.

I can't install some programs now because halfway through it will popup a box warning me that I have a paused installation of vmware and do I want to resume it.

A:Installing VMware Workstation on Vista

From what I read on Vmware's website, Vista is not a supported Host OS for version 5.5. I assume you have system recovery turned on. Have you tried rolling back the system.
