Preferred Solution: Adblocker software or Browser Extension

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Adblocker software or Browser Extension

I use the Adguard extension for more than 3 years now and I'm very happy with it. It is light and blocks everything it needs to block. It also has some protection against bad/malicious websites. I use the extension, since I don't need the desktop version. I used Adblock plus in the past, but I liked Adguard much more. Áblock is also a good alternative, but after trying much adblocking extensions. I always return back to Adguard.

I'm using uBlock Origin, it's light and simple to use. I used in the past all of these adblocker and I think uBlock Origin is the Best. What is your favorite ad blocker? The light is more uBlock Origin also in your opinion?
Mod Edit: added additional adblocks. Note that most work with Firefox and Chrome.

A:What is the best adblocker extension?

I have mixed experience with uBlock O. Not all pages render properly. ABP works fine out of the box. Ghostery is not an ad blocker. You can use some of its features but basically obsolete if you are using an ad blocker already.

ABP is a bit heavier than uBlock O but then again, hardly noticeable unless you running 10+ tabs and have a mid end or low end system.

Ghostery I would just steer away from it, plain and simple, due to their policy (google it for more info).

edit: voted Adguard since I know added the 4th option to OP.

Hello.
I downloaded a file from thepiratebay and it infected my computer with something. I'm usually very careful about these sorts of things, but this one got through.
everytime I open my browser (firefox) there are about 8 differnt types of ads that congest my viewing. They slow down my browser, making it take up more resources, hence, slowing down my computer overall. I did some research and was directed here for best results. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

I have provided a screenshot of my browser while typing out this cry for help as an example. For the love of god, please help me. It's getting worse.
Thank you.

P.s. I see "Ads by Cinema-Plus-1.7c" rather regularly in the upper right-hand corner of my screen when i'm redirected to a blank, white page.

Hi first poster here.

I am an online poker player and I like to play on Ultimate Bet. However, I recently got my computer from brother who also plays on Ultimate Bet. I am trying to create my own account on this poker site but it is not allowing me to as it says only three accounts are allowed(all ones my brother created when he had the computer). Now that I have the computer I cant create my own accoutn because I assume the site has tracking cookie, so If i remove the browser the extension will this not fix the probvlem? and how do I do it?

A:Browser Extension Removal

Hi. . .

Can the program in question be un-installed?

Also, try using system restore using a point prior to your brother's installation of the program - if possible. START | type rstrui.exe into the start search box | select rstrui.exe from above.

If not, reset IE7 by clicking on Tools - top right of IE screen, then see the screen shot:

How do I erase any memory that ultimate has? I assume it is be getting rid of the browser extension but that I have no clue how to do. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Delete all cookies and see if that helps. Cookies are one way that they know that computer has been to the site before.

A:Malwarebytes Browser Extension?

Malwarebytes Extension for Firefox

At Malwarebytes, we are constantly trying to improve our customer’s protection from digital threats and one of the better location in the system was the browser.
We were trying to set-up the Firefox extension so that we can start the internal Beta of this technology. The early availability, although unintended, still contains a lot of kinks to iron out as it is an early Beta and was meant for Malwarebytes employees only. However, since the cat is out of the bag, we encourage you to try it and do give us feedback.
What about other browsers? Yes we will be trying to support others, but we are still deep in development.
Our apologies for this hiccup, and please bear with us while we tune and tweak this product to release quality.

Legitimate, yes. It is just not being publicized. Note it is marked as experimental.

i have a very, very old digital camera. i of course installed the software that came with it. the problem is that every time i transfer pictures from the camera, .jpg files keep getting registered with this digicam's program (which is called 'image expert'). i want jpg's to open in internet explorer like they normally do. i keep having to delete the old association and create a new one.. then i've to go into the registry so i can get the thumbnail views working again.

there is no file association setting in the digicam's software. is there any way to stop this from happening? or has 'image expert' created a hopeless situation?

A:digicam software keeps taking over .jpg extension

try the following.

Go to a .jpg picture and 'Right' click it. *Don't open it, JUST right click the unopened file*

From the menu choose 'Properties'.

Near the top is an option saying 'Opens With'.

Select that, then look through the list of programs it brings up.

From there you can bring up the default opening program of your choice - Internet

Explorer is in the list as is 'Windows Picture and Fax viewer' [which you might want to try out if you haven 't already].

The important part of this procedure is directly below the list of programs in the dialogue window itself-you'll see a line saying;
'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'
**** Tick the checkbox you see there to make it your default opener for all your .jpg pictures.

Hello,

Have a quite old program that ran on previous PC which used XP.
Would like to get it going again, if possible

Tried all the compatibility screens and wizaards, and it seems like one problem "might" be that W7 can't handle one of the program file xtensions called: .INS

I did a Google, but all that seems to come up are a multitude of sites that want to sell Registry scans, etc.

Is there a place anyone can recommend where I can obtain the extension inexpensively or free, to install ?

And, if i can get it, what do i do with it ?
Where do i place it, etc. ?

Much thanks as always,
Bob

A:Obtaining Software Of A File Extension ?

Hello Bob,

The file extension in itself should not cause a program to not run on win7.

I can find 12 references to programs that have used the .INS filetype

Alphabetic File Extension List

what is the actual program you are trying to install - if it was designed for XP then unless the program deals with system level access or is specifically written to only work on XP one of the compatibility modes should work.

another option if you have Professional or Ultimate Win7 is XPmode

One other option is to convert your existing files into a newer format and/or find a program that is win7 ready that can read the files or file conversions

Hey guys,

So I'm suspecting either Magic Mouse Utilities or my Watch Dogs installation (I got this from a friend) carried along a virus to my computer.

Chrome shows something like this in a block of text (this is my website, and this is not normal behavior, I've already checked in other devices so don't ask me.):

I've already checked Chrome Extensions, and it's not there.

I've ran RKill, ran JRT, ran Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes is still running, but I think JRT deleted mntemp and some shady Chrome autorun from the registry. Adwcleaner reports my PC is clean.

I've attached Magic Mouse Utilities, hopefully someone can check if it contains malware by running it in a sandbox. (I should've done this) THE ZIP MAY BE A VIRUS! IF YOU ARE TESTING IT PLEASE BE AWARE IT MAY BE A VIRUS!!!

Chrome still shows these after the scans. Malwarebytes is still scanning, so I will edit to show the results when it is complete.

Anybody know what this is?

EDIT: I know a FRST scan would help you experts immensely, but as I've said Malwarebytes is still running and I'd rather wait until that finishes so it doesn't clash.

This behavior only happens in Chrome, and not in Edge. Weird.

EDIT2: This is the JRT scan log: http://pastebin.com/ZL3fxmRN

This is the RKill log: http://pastebin.com/xBrzfwGG

How can I remove GoSaVeu web browser extension, for ever?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and my main browser is Google Chrome (I still have Firefox and IExplorer installed). Every time I start Chrome Avast would report that it has blocked a threat and it will continue periodically reporting the same threat until I remove GoSaVeu from my extension list in Chrome.

Funny thing, after a reboot it returns back to Chrome! GoSaVeu has been haunting me for days now! Nothing what I have tried helps! I tried running avast virus scan in DoS mode, GoSaVeu still remained. Going into Safe Mode and deleting the extension there. Deleting Program files related to GoSaVeu in safe mode. Deleting everything that has anything to do with GoSaVeu from registery in safe mode. Running CCleaner in save mode. Resetting Chrome settings in safe mode.

I tried everything recommended on http://www.fixyourbrowser.com/remova...removal-guide/ save for countless anti-malware/virus softwares.
Basically, how do I remove GoSaVeu and keep it removed?
Thank you for your assistance,
ZF

A:How can I permanently remove GoSaVeu browser extension?

Okay I basically figured it out, there were some additional files located in AppData that kept on reviving it.

If you turn on Developer Mode in Chrome you will see from where the extension is loading from, I followed the path and deleted this whole ocdnj...kmf folder. In addition the same folder is present in Chrome SxS\User Data\Default\Extensions. You have to do it for every user account including Administrator and Guest accounts.

In addition to cleaning it from Google Chrome folder, you must look for a folder in AppData/Local called Torch. As there will be present a folder with the exact same extension folder name and files, delete that folder for every user.

Hi Is there any (ideally open source) software for Windows that can be used on a PC, to monitor the usage of internet from that PC? It would need to include both browser and non-browser sources (e.g. a service that sync's calendar to gmail). So any software on your PC that uses would need to be configured to point to this local internet monitoring software/proxy. The monitoring software/proxy then would be configured to point to the company proxy server (address, port & credentials). Things that come to mind that might be close but not really focused on solving this might be perhaps: Charles Proxy, Fiddler 2, SQUID? The idea would be it could give you a daily/weekly/monthly report of internet upload/download usage on a per program/process/service basis for the PC it is being run on. thanks PS The scope is only monitor Internet usage for the PC that the software is running on. It's just aimed at tracking my own Internet usage at work on my PC from the point of view of the various software I have that does sync to Internet.

A:software to monitor internet usage on an XP PC? (browser + non-browser)

Only thing I know of that comes close it NetLimiter. But I would bet Squid could do it but that is way over my head.

A:What is the best adblocker?

I have mixed experience with uBlock O. Not all pages render properly. ABP works fine out of the box. Ghostery is not an ad blocker. You can use some of its features but basically obsolete if you are using an ad blocker already.

ABP is a bit heavier than uBlock O but then again, hardly noticeable unless you running 10+ tabs and have a mid end or low end system.

Ghostery I would just steer away from it, plain and simple, due to their policy (google it for more info).

edit: voted Adguard since I know added the 4th option to OP.

I am so frusterated - several weeks ago I picked up this "Red Adblocker" somehow - I don't know where this thing is or what I downloaded containing it.  It's driving me BATTY!  I have "gotten rid of it" repeatedly only for the blasted thing to reappear hijacking my browser days later.

How do I track this thing down for good??

I was wondering if anyone uses noscript AND adblocker simultaneously?

I've read into these plugins and they seem great however there was some minor squabbling between the two development teams at one point.

Can anyone comment on their personal experience using both of these firefox plugins simultaneously?

I appreciate your invaluable experience.

A:noscript + adblocker

I use a Hosts file, noscript, adblocker plus, Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus and Ghostery and all are working just fine.

When I try to see them, I just see blank
I have never downloaded any adblocking programs in the past....

Here`s in an example on Firefox:
Notice the blank space where the ad should be....

And Here's one on Chrome:
Again, Blank Screen....

Please Help me by telling me who to fix this....

Thanks

A:Ads Being Blocked without Adblocker

Why would you want to see those ads?

Looks like something is blocking the ad server.

Check your security software and firewall.

Look for the ad server ad.g.doubleclick.net.

Also have a look at your Hosts file.

Browse to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Click on hosts.

Choose Notepad from the list of programs to open the file with.

Well, fl studio file extension .flp, misteiously losz its default program.
It was not even in control panel >> default programs, extension was missing from windows.

In folder I did not changed to view file extensions, every other extension was not showed, but lets say PROJECT.FLP was showing like this in folder, and was threated like no extension, was threated like if it is just PROJECT and no fullstop and extension behind.

I fixed problem, but now when trying to reproduce again, and if I delete asocciation it will show just PROJECT, not PROJECT.FLP, that was weird problem and I would like to know why this happened?

Appreciate help to locate and eradicate virus...As I explained: I had a few ads in news sites I visit, so I just downloaded Adblocker+ ...Now I have ads on EVERY page/screen! I can't find any "ad" files in "programs/features"; they all appear legit. This is driving me nuts as I should not have downloaded anything anyway, and just tolerated a few ads here and there --- to have this result/virus! Thank you very much!

I can't seem to get Ad Blocker to block web pages for me. I enter the web pages and select the option to block the URL, but the pages keep getting displayed.

I downloaded AdMuncher and it works just fine, but I'd prefer not to have to pay for this service.

What's really needed is an IE add-on which does the same thing but with a single mouse click. There should be an icon on that you could press that would have the function of blocking that URL.

Thanks.
Matt
