Lenovo E351 - Buttonless trackpad issue

Q: Lenovo E351 - Buttonless trackpad issue

Hi

I recently bought a Lenovo E351 through ebay. I love everything about the laptop except the buttonless trackpad.
Currently it looks like this:

It's quite frustrating as it's not accurate.

Is there a solution to this? - other than buying a new laptop.
I'm wondering if someone has zig/tweaked it so it can be used with buttons?
I was honestly wanting something like the below keyboard

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you

Jayden

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having trouble with the trackpad on the MiiX 510. It is often hard to correctly position the cursor, and sometimes I have to remove my finger from the trackpad in order to get it to respond. I have turned off all of the gestures but still don't always get good response. The driver is just a Microsoft driver and I don't see a Synaptics or other trackpad driver available.Any ideas on how to make the trackpad function more reliably? This is my only complaint on an otherwise fine product.

I would like to change the scrolling speed of my lenovo yoga 910 but the only settings I see are the tracpad gestures and mouse settings in mouse and tracpad settings. This looks like a windows 10 issue but some other laptops have additional settings for trackpad and I would like to know they exist for this ultrabook. I also wonder if I can configure the trackpad gestures. For example I want to add/configure the dragging gesture from double-tap to three finger tap and drag. It seems that you can only turn them on/off. Again, this seems to be a windows 10 issue but any help is appreciated.

Hi all, I just fixed my y510p from video artifacts due to a loose video cable connection, but when I put everything back together, my trackpad no longer works, and in device manager, I had an unknown device listed that was not there before. Anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas on how to fix it? I thought it may have been a cable that came loose when I was taking the computer apart, but I checked the connections to the trackpad and they're all good. Still not working though. Thanks in advance!

I think I may have uninstalled them completely at this point and I don't know where to get them back for Windows 10. The only thing under "mice and other pointing devies" is Ps/2 Compatible Mouse; not sure if there should be somehting else. Also when I change settings in control pannel, like the speed, it does not effect the trackpad only external mice. If anyone can help me out it'd be much much apperciated.

Hello. I have had my Ideapad 300 for several months now and I really love it except for one thing, the trackpad. Due to where my hand and fingers naturally sit, there is a spot on the trackpad that shows a little more wear than the area around it. In this picture ( http://imgur.com/bJovhqL ), you can see that there is an oval shaped region that looks a little different. The problem I am having is that several times a day (up to several times per hour), the trackpad goes nuts.  It doesn'ttrack my finger correctly and performs multi-finger actions even though I'm just using one finger.  It jitters around the screen if I try to use it, and I just have to wait for it to self-correct by staying off of it for up to 30 seconds.  If I look at the trackpad icon on the bottom right of the taskbar while it's messing up, the trackpad is registering multiple fingers. I'll use one finger, and the icon will display 1 finger, 2 fingers, 3 fingers, 1, 2, 1, 3, 4, etc.  Like I said, I just have to wait it out for it to go away.  And on one occasion, I noticed that even if I hovered my finger above the trackpad without actually touching it, it would still register fingers, like it was being super super sensitive or something. I've tried everything reasonable to fix it, tweaking the settings, uninstalling and reinstalling the trackpad, updating the drivers, using the OEM drivers, and nothing works.  It's getting very annoying, and ... So I booted my PC after an update the other morning and the keyboard and trackpad weren't working. I tested the brightness keys on my keyboard and they still worked so it couldn't be a hardware issue there, and my mouse still worked so it was just the trackpad that had something wrong with it. The trackpad has a driver error (code 10) but the keyboard says it's working correctly. Here's what I've tried in hopes to resolve the issues so far: -Reinstalling trackpad drivers -Uninstalling both trackpad and keyboard drivers then restarting -System Restore -Chkdsk on both drives -A trick I read on these forums where you flip the device into tent mode, then after a few seconds flip it back round to laptop mode. I am utterly confused as to what's wrong here as nothing has even slightly helped my problem. Any help?

After a Window's update, my trackpad stopped working. After searches online for how to fix the issue, I noticed that the trackpad was completely unistalled from my computer (vs. just being disabled). I went to the Lenovo website and re-downloaded the driver, which fixed the issue..... for a few weeks. Now my trackpad stopped working again (randomly mid use...I had not restarted my computer or anything), with no further windows updates occuring. I looked and it is once again, unistalled. I tried to download the driver again, but it didn't fix the issue this time. How do I get my trackpad back installed and working?

The trackpad might break me here... it's absolutely terrible if you're the kind of user that likes to use single finger click and two finger right click exclusively. You can set it up for this behaviour but it basically disables the entire bottom third of the trackpad.

Are there tactile click locations for left and right click in the bottom corners?  Or is it totally "tap" sensing?  Mine shipped out yesterday and this was one of my concerns.  Another option that just went on sale, the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, has dedicated buttons like a traditional ThinkPad.  It's much pricier for the same hardware, though, and I like the Yoga flexibility compared to a Surface type setup.

I got my Lenovo Yoga 710 in the summer of 2016, and everything works great except for the inactive scrolling. The inactive scrolling only works when I have an external mouse attached to my laptop, in which I am able to type in one window while scrolling in another window that's inactive. However, the inactive scrolling doesn't seem to work when I am using my trackpad and not an external mouse. I have updated all of my drivers, but I just don't understand why the feature would work only with the external mouse and not the trackpad. It is rather inconvenient to carry around an external mouse when the trackpad is supposed to do the job. I am coming from a Macbook Pro and I really miss the inactive scrolling that it provided.  I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me. Thanks! P.S. I do not have any third party software installed and the inactive scrolling feature is "enabled."

Hello,

I have a GX60 1AC-021US, and I recently installed windows 8.1 because I knew the cd key was on the motherboard. Ever since I reinstalled Windows, my trackpad turns off when I put the computer to sleep. When I resume my laptop, I have to press Fn+F3 for it to work again.

Also, if I have the Synaptic drivers installed then my trackpad won't work at all. When I press Fn+F3 the trackpad enable image displays, then almost immediately the trackpad disable image displays, and my trackpad doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello There is a feature in Lenovo Ideapad 310 which is being annoying to me: the trackpad is deactivated when I press a key in the keyboard. How this can be configured on Xubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and on Asus M2400Ne with a Synaptics device, looks like this is solely a software issue, but I was not able to find where is this configuration on Windows 10. The Windows 10 options in Configurations-> Devices-> Mouse and Touchpad had no effect, even the option to delay the time between I use the keyboard and click was not effective. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse had no option to change this too. I have searched and found this topic, but I am seriously concerned regarding messing with Windows registries. I do not want to change registries I do not know because I need the capability to boot the computer after this. I tried to find the registries cited on that topic, but could not find them. Is there a option somewhere which I can deactivate this behaviour? All drivers are updated using the System Update program that came installed on the computer. Windows 10 is updated too. Thank you.

Hi,
I purchased my XPS 15 2 years ago and I noticed as soon as I started using it that the trackpad left button kept sticking, causing it to stay selected on anything you click. I contacted Dell and they said it would take up to three weeks to repair because it needed to be flown to Poland.
This delay was too long for me as I need my laptop for work so I tried to grin and bear it but after a few months it was driving me crazy so I contacted Dell and organised for it to be sent off. It came back a few weeks later but unfortunately had exactly the same fault.
I tried to put up with it again but it's now got too much again - I didn't spend £1500 on a laptop to have to use a wireless mouse with it. I've contacted Dell to ask for support and their response is that I need to purchase post warranty support for my laptop HOWEVER you can't buy it if there's an issue with your laptop. So I have to pay to get the problem that my laptop was shipped with fixed before Dell will then support it.
I really don't know what to do - can anyone give me any advice because it's about to go in the bin.

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 directly from Lenovo. Is a solid laptop with great specs and battery life, however the trackpad starts skipping, feels unresponsive and jitters. This happens consistently and on every time I use the laptop from more than 5-10 minutes.I've tried all of the following with no solution:1. Reinstalling drivers from Lenovo site2. Changing charger cable (this was recorded actually in battery power, so happens both connected and not connected to power)3. Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again.4. Powering off the laptop, holding the power button for 60 seconds then powering it back again.5. Changing the settings for sensitivity6. Disabling the track-pointI was wondering what would cause that and if I should just return the laptop and get another one with a non-defective trackpad.

Hi,

I'm experiencing a strange problem with my trackpad. Although It is shown as installed under Programs and Features, it is absent from the Device Manager. I don't know how it can be possible but that's the reality. Alongwith that, I'm also unable to use the trackpad right now.

A little bit of history about this issue: Initially, in response to touch, the cursor started moving erratically. After sometime, it began to lock and unlock on its own. Sometimes even the left-click and right-click buttons also became unresponsive. Thinking of it as a driver issue, I unistalled and then reinstalled the trackpad drivers. After that everything seemed to work fine but that was not going to be for long. The problem appeared once again and this time, the cursor started moving and clicking on its own as well.

Suspecting some malware or something like that to be responsible for this, I decided to scan with Kaspersky Internet Security which was (and is) already installed on my system but it failed to detect anything. Thereafter I tried multiple security softwares like Eset, Malwarebytes, Trend Micro, F-Secure, Super Anti-Spyware, and some others as well but to no effect. I even scanned in safe mode but strangely, got the same problem in safe mode as well and no detection of any sort. Not to mention that both my Windows 7 and KIS 2015 are fully patched and updated.

But it was not going to stop at there and all of a sudden, the trackpad went completely dead. B... Read more

There seems to be quite a few issues related to the 'precision' trackpad on many laptops Dell is producing. I just bought a 15in XPS Laptop which is a beautiful piece of machinery. But shortly after buying it my cursor would float all over the screen. Strangest behavior I've ever seen. When focus is on a program trackpad seems to work fine but when focus is on the desktop you literally have no control over the cursor using the trackpad.
I've contacted support who have done what they can but now want me to send the laptop in for repairs. As this is most certainly a software issue I cannot justify sending the laptop in losing it for a month to some hardware shop unless they can tell me definitely that this is hardware related.
I will be posting a video of this behavior on YouTube. I've done a full reinstall of Windows, updated BIOS, Chipsets, run extensive tests, and still the problem continues. At this point the best solution so far is to disable all gestures and features of the 'precision' trackpad and carry a mouse wherever you go! Such a shame that a fine piece of engineering like the XPS suffers from basic BIOS issues. I mean it's the trackpad on a very expensive laptop.

I'm having a very odd issue that I am able to duplicate over and over. When I boot the computer (Win10 on an L560) depending on which trackpad clicks I use, I get a different malfunction once I get past the login screen. If I use the trackpad to move the cursor around and use only the soft click to login the mouse fails to function once logged in, that is to say the cursor won't come up/move and the soft and hard clicks don't work and the pointing stick all do not work. However if I use the trackpad hard click in the login screen the cursor and the soft click functions work once logged in to windows but the hard click function and actual click-button do not work. Funnily enough if I use the hard click (that functions in the login screen) THEN click the cursor button  (right above the trackpad) the hard click ceases to function but the soft click continues to work.  If I don't utilize the trackpads or buttons at all in the login screen and only the keyboard to login then the trackpad does not function at all once logged into windows.  There may be one other 'gotcha' I can't recall but all the issues are repeatable and don't make a lick of sense. I have replaced the hard drive, the track pad, the track pad ribbon, the whole upper case, and have replaced the motherboard (recieved all under warranty from Lenovo, sans hard drive) I have updated all drivers (windows, all hardware, and indeed the trackpad drivers) and checked every available settin... Since I got my XPS 13 9360, the trackpad is virtually impossible to use: the pointer jumps everywhere, the text gets selected (and even deleted), some programs quit suddenly because the "ghost" pointer clicked on the terminate cross, etc.
It has become impossible to use except in very dedicated usages (e.g., only using the keyboard without the trackpad)… or installing a separate mouse, which is really stupid for such a computer that could be used anywhere (e.g. on a train) and where the mouse becomes a real hassle. (And, come on, using a mouse is so 1990s.)

I tried numerous solutions, including creating file /etc/modprobe.d/xps13-9360.conf and adding blacklist psmouse (as mentioned here), but nothing seems to work.
I use Linux Mint, but the problem occurred as early as the fresh Ubuntu system I received; in fact, during the very first boot of the computer during the customization of Ubuntu, the pointer got crazy, which made me install rather Linux Mint (where the system unfortunately still shows up).
Note that I realized that the pointer gets crazy mostly when doing "drag and drop". It seems that standard moves and clicks will not produce the bug.

Exact Dell version is XPS 13 i7-8Go-256Go-Ubuntu
The system is Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya xfce.
