How to clear ZoneAlarm "Program Control" programs?

Q: How to clear ZoneAlarm "Program Control" programs?

I want to completely reset that whole area of ZoneAlarm. I know i have to go to "Internet LOgs" folder or something, and delete the files in safe mode. I think there is also more than one Internet Logs folder. So which Internet Logs folder should i pick, and what should i delete? Dont want to delete anything i might need (something non-ZA related)

Preferred Solution: How to clear ZoneAlarm "Program Control" programs?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I'm trying to set Notepad++ as the default program for *all* file types that it can open, using Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Your Default Programs. I want to make N++ open every file type it can open, and so I don't want to do this by individual file extension.

Notepad++ does not show in the list of programs that I can set defaults for, and I see no option to add a program to the list. I've Googled this question to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to set a program that doesn't appear in the list as all its defaults?

Thanks.

A:Adding a program to "Default Programs" in Control Panel

When I right-click on a file to open it, I get the option to "choose the default program", and in there, you can eventually open a browser to use to find the app you want. That app then becomes the default program for that file extension.

When right clicking on a file type and then choosing "Open with" it brings a list of frequently used programs to open that file type. There are several programs there that I don't use and would prefer they didn't show up. Is there any way to clear this list ?

A:Clear the "Choose Program" options

I'm pretty sure BAxBEx Software's OpenExpert allows you to remove the existing entries as well as add your own. If it doesn't work, post back and I'll talk you through editing the registry entries.

You may want to reinstall the operating system.

Backupthe files that are importantto you before you reinstall.

The "New" installation will overwrite the current one

If you do not format your hard drive before the reinstall the installation should not harm your files (That's why I suggest backingup your files) and will speed up the installation process.

Hello jason & welcome to SevenForums!

Have you been trying to deleting this program by deleting the folder in the DATA path? It would probably fail after trying to uninstalling in the control panel then.
Try looking for the path and see if it's there!

Also, try this well popular software, for a perfect uninstallation of a software:

Revo Uninstaller

You do need to be admin on both (and yes they are different). You also should not be in Program Files as that is solely for legacy for 32 bit apps, shouldnt be anything there that you need to change.

Hey, I used the thread search here and found out how to remove the peper trojan my dad had on his computer, along with HSA.

The spyware has been removed, the computer is running splendidly. However, entries still remain in the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel. They all seem to be related to HSA, because like the entry for HSA, all they really do is open your browser and go to a page where it says you can download an uninstall program.

Does anyone know how to remove these entries from the "Add/Remove Programs" screen?

Also, how come the folder of the programs I uninstall not get deleted under "program files?"

A:Inquiry about "control panel - add/remove programs"

Many applications have very bad uninstallers. They don't really care about what happens if you are so rude as to decide that you don't want their programs. It shows a lack of integrity, or at least knowledge.

Get another uninstaller, like Your Uninstaller, or one that searches the registry and folders for all parts of an application and removes them all.

In Windows 8.1 Update 1 I cannot change file associations whether I try to do so from Control Panel or from within an application. For example, here's the popular VLC Media Player file association preferences:
I cannot select (put a check mark) or de-select (remove a check mark) from any individual file association. If I click on the selection box, nothing happens. I have the same problem even if I open the application with elevated privileges. I can check the Select All box and all associations will be selected, but that's all I can do.

I can go to individual files and choose Open with and that association will stick, but it's far easier to select an application's default file associations at one time.

Can you try 'chkdsk' ? It is worth trying a simple check first, see what the effect is, before you do anything more serious. To use Windows 'chkdsk', in Vista, 1) Go to 'Start' type 'cmd' 2)in the list, right-click on 'cmd', choose 'Run as Administrator'
3)In the box, type, chkdsk/f (press enter) 3)type 'Y' 4) Reboot your PC and see if Windows can fix your problems with the system.

Almost sounds like something is doing a System Restore under the covers.

Can you provide a list of software running and installed? Maybe we can spot something in the list.

Download and install CCleaner from the following link: CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

Start CCleaner. Click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:
Uninstall > Save to text file (install) ? bottom right corner of app window
Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ?Documents? FOLDER:

I have been confused if programs automatically download to the optimum "program files" for 32-bit or 64-bit or do I have to select which if the two program files I want it in? It seems everything has been going into the x86 file. I don't want to just move them all over to the 64-bit file if they really belong in the x86 file, but I am sure my new photoshop programs belong in the Program Files file yet they seen to have downloaded into the Program Files (x86) instead. Also, how am I to know which programs are better suited for either folder?

Update: I tried copying the Photoshop file and moving it to the 64-bit folder but it won't let me do so, saying a file is in use somewhere. I do not have any files from this open; I even restarted the computer to completely close anything that MIGHT be open and I get the same message. Is this maybe because it does not belong in the Program Files folder for 64-bit programs? Any other hints on how I can move this program, along with Adobe Premiere Elements (for making videos) that gives me the same message? I have been told these programs would work better running as 64-bit programs so that is why I want to move them.

A:When I download programs, it default to the correct "program files" ?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Windows 7 64-bit uses WOW64 (a x86 emulator) Running 32-bit Applications (Windows)

This means you'll see two Programs folders: Program Files, which is the container for your 64-bit applications and Programs Files (x86), which holds your 32-bit applications.

Any program you install will be put in the correct location. Your new Photoshop programs will be under Program Files (x86) because they are 32-bit applications, with the exception of the 64-bit version of Photoshop, which will be under Programs Files.

Do not try and move the location of your applications, just let Windows 7 put them where they belong.

I have no idea what kind of problem this actually is, so hopefully this is the right forum:

First of all, I have Windows XP.

FYI, in case this is important, I recently acquired the following: Zone Alarm Anti-virus (had it for about a month), Sprint DSL (had it for about 2 weeks), Quicktime upgrade (just installed this the other day, and it also gave me iTunes, which I deleted) - so any of these programs might be to blame, or maybe it's something else entirely ...

The problem: the other day, I noticed that internet explorer wouldn't fully load ... it just gave me a blank window and the hourglass. So, I tried using Mozilla, and that worked. Then, later, when I tried to shut down my computer, it gave me a bunch of "End Program" messages, and took so long that I shut down the comp manually. So, I thought maybe there was a problem with too many internet files or cookies or something (since I recently got DSL and am online all the time now), so I used the control panel to delete all my cookies and temporary internet files, then when I restarted the computer, Internet Explorer worked again, so I figured the problem was solved. Then, the next time I used my computer, IE wouldn't load again, but Mozilla did, so I figured it was the same weird problem. Again, when I tried to shut down, I got the following "End Program" Messages: "AXWIN Frame Window," "DSAgnt.exe," "Task Panel," and "DDE Server Window." I trie... Read more

I have been into regedit to look at where the unistall program reside before this all happened so I can only think something may have happened whilst I was there.

Is there a way of getting a backup of the registry to the point where all the unistall program list used to be?

I can see "roxio" program in the list of "uninstall or change a program". But I dont see it in the list of "All Programs" on start to use it. There is no desktop icon created to activate this program and this icon is not available on quicklaunch either

Now how can I use this roxio program ? where can I find list of all executable programs and how to execute them ? I clicked on the name of this program in "uninstall or change a program" list. I got a message asking to remove this program. So I cancelled it. I right clicked on this proghram to find the path. But nothing came out. I looked in Program Files to find this program, but found nothing there either. I tried to check in the task manager, if any process is running for "roxio" but nothing was there.

How can I use this application now ? If this program is not there in the system then why does it appear in the "uninstall or change a program" list ?

thanks

A:program name "roxio" appearing in the "uninstall or change a program" only

Go to your system manufacturer's web site and download the Roxio software installation package and re-install it. If option for "repair" appears - choose it.

Here is the Roxio site itself --> http://www.roxio.com/

I am on a Windows 7 Professional SP1 system, running IE 11 (11.0.9600.19230C0, update version 11.0.101 (4483187).

When I have Internet explorer opened in "kiosk mode" on one monitor and I open a hyperlink from the other monitor it will open the link in a new IE window (non-full screen) .    If I do the same test with IE not in "kiosk mode"
the hyper link will open in the open window/tab.

I have Internet Options -- Tab settings "Open links from other programs in"  set to "the current tab or window".

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't know if I am explaining this correctly, but at the top, you have FILE EDIT FAVORITES TOOLS HELP. When you click on "File" and a window opens and one of the choices is "Open". In this area you can type an address that IE will open for you. My question is how to clear everything that ever typed there?

Greetings!

I have an XP machine which I only ever user myself (as in, there are no other users on the machine, no guest account, and it logs in without a password).

I'm trying to sort out my expansive and bloated Start Menu Programs list, but it seems that there are two separate lists. One for "Joe" (the main user account) and one for "all users", I guess because some programs give the option of installing for just one user or for everyone.

All of the programs show up in the Start Menu when I click on it, but when I go into Windows Explorer to try and sort them out, there are two separate folders;

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Start Menu\Programs

I know I can move them around in these folders (ie; putting them in related groups, such as "system tools" etc), but can I move all of them from the main user to the "all users" folder, (or vice versa) without any problems?

Thanks!
~Joe

Yes, you can consolidate them all in one, or slit them up as desired.

Hello everyone,

I've run into an issue that I can't seem to find answer to on the net.

When I open My Computer, Control Panel or any folder no files or directories display, after first there is a green loading bar on the address bar and little magnifying glasses (searching icon) on the left side directories but never displays anything.

The files I can see in other folders are unable to be opened and have white blank page icons next to them.

I can still run application so I'm not sure what the issue is. I ran a scan for virus with nothing found and I have also ran a windows update but have not restarted my PC yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I thought I was computer savvy until this problem came up. When I double click my computer, recycle bin, control panel, etc, the hourglass comes up for a few seconds, goes off, and nothing else. No error messages or anything, just nothing. I have viewed a few of the threads covering this and a common link was the hijack this result. I have posted that here, and really hope that someone can help me with this. I have run SpyBotSD and adaware, I have run mutiple virus scans, I did a SFC, and the final thing was to repair windows using the original disk, none of which has help. I am running Window XP w/SP2. Any other suggestions would be certainly appreciated. Hope to here from someone soon. MTCS, out.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Apologises for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy lately. If you are still having malware problems, follow instructions below.

=======

You are using an outdated version of Hijackthis. Please uninstall from Add/Remove programs, and delete your current version.

Next, download HijackThis to your desktop

Alternate link

Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.

Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Do not post that log, instead, do this next:

=====================================================

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.

I accidently posted this in "Vista" so I'm reposting it here as the operating system I have is XP Professional.

I'm having a problem with "Display" in the Control Panel. Yesterday I visited a website and opened a file. After I did that, my wallpaper changed and it appeared to be whatever the website was. I was able to somehow get it off (don't ask me what I did, I couldn't tell you). Now, when I click on "Display" in the Control Panel and go to "Desk Top", the only thing that I can change is the color and I can also click on "Customize Desktop", but I cannot change the background or click on "browse...". Can you help?

Described here. I have a problem with finishing work on "unknown device". For a moment, after installing from the DELL (www.dell.com/.../advanced) driver "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver ", file DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE Device Manager has stopped showing that there is an" unknown device "in the configuration. After updating to "ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver", the Chipset_Driver_RCHTX_WN_2.00.10.34_A11.EXE file, from the same DELL page, again appeared in the configuration unknown device.
I decided to remove the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver from the system via the Control Panel to install only DRVR_WIN_R309372.EXE. Unfortunately, the installation can not be resumed, the message "Found incompatible installation of, Version. Please uninstall it via Control Panel Add / Remove Programs before installing this version of Accelerometer". The problem is that Control Panel no longer shows this application. Suspecting that there were some traces left after the previous installation, I tried to remove them from the File Manager and also edited the registry. In the registry I searched for: "R309372", "RCHTX", "Microelectronics", "AccelerometerP11", "Freefall". I deleted the entries containing the above characters. I would be grateful for directional guidance on how to proceed further. I am using Windows 10 64 bit Dell Precision M4500.

What I found under Windows 7, when you use the "Show Desktop" feature (I prefer the ? Win + D shortcut) and then bring all windows back by using it again, some windows behave as if they're glued to the front of the z-order. What this means is, say, I have windows
A B and C open, with focus on A, hit ? Win +D twice, and now it may happen that if I then want to switch to B or C, either by Alt+Tab or by selecting them on the taskbar, the taskbar shows the highlight, but A stays visible (and usable, it's not just a rendering
issue) in the foreground.

Imagine the following situations, all three windows cascading and overlapping:

A (focus)
B
C

-> ? Win + D

Desktop (focus)

-> ? Win + D

A (focus)
B
C

-> click C on taskbar

A
C (focus)
B

-> click B on taskbar

A
B (focus)
C

And so on. Focus means actual input focus, i.e. in second situation, any keyboard typing is sent to window B while window A is in the foreground.

It does not matter what kind of application; in my current case an instance of Outlook and an instance of Explorer is stuck, while a second instance of Explorer and an instance of Firefox behave normally. This should show that this problem can occur even between
multiple instances of the same application, and that there are no fancy applications involved that like to pretend they are the most important program and internally force "always on top".

This is not really a problem, more like a nerdy technical question, since I like being informed about the goings-on in my PC. I hope I posted it in the right section, since IMVU would probably fall more under "game" than anything else.

I have always been curious as to why would the developers of the chat client IMVU decide to have the program install within C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\IMVUClient (previous versions did so under "Documents and Settings") instead of "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" on Windows... I am also curious if this unconventional choice could potentially make my PC vulnerable to attacks.

Now, the program works fine AFAIK, but I'm puzzled by this. I'm the kind of user who likes having the choice of installing apps in a drive other than C: (to free space in C:, for portability, etc.), and who gets nervous when apps do not install or behave the way that I'm used to.

I was told by someone more knowledgeable than me that it was probably a lazy way to get around administrative install rights in Windows Vista and Windows 7. He also added that the cache data of the program shouldn't be in Roaming when there is no upper limit or even default size set on it.

And yes, this has been asked on their forums, but no staff member ever answered it (only a forum mod, who didn't have a clue).

Any ideas? Or am I being overly paranoid?

Ed.
