Lenovo Y510P Battery Recharging Issue

Q: Lenovo Y510P Battery Recharging Issue

Hi guys, first post here. I've had my Y510P for a little over 2 years now, around last year I experienced an unexpected shut-off and the laptop became unresponsive for a few days (as I did not yet know a work around, could of gone back on immediatly as I later discovered). The problem is that, when the laptop eventually dies on battery power, if you plug the laptop into the mains and try to turn it on absolutly nothing happens and there is no sign of life. This is only resolved if the battery is removed, the mains power cord is unplugged at the wall and plugged back in, and the laptop is powered on via only main power. At this time the battery can be inserted into the laptop when it is already on and the battery will charge as normal and the laptop can be then unplugged and remain on until the battery dies again and the cycle repeats. I have purchased two replacement batteries and tried two seperate chargers and the problem is consistent, would love to hear if anybody has has/had this problem and managed to find a solution, if you need any more info please leave a reply. Many thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a lenovo ideapad y510p and everything was fine until for I thought I'd do the battery reset in the lenovo energy management,at first the battery was dead and laptop wouldnt turn on,,I found one way around this which is that first I take the battery out and then insert the ac adapter, the laptop turns on then I put it in hibernate while I insert battery after which it seems to charge but only after I do these steps, but if I take the adapter out and insert it back in,it would stop charging.this is all because of the lenovo energy management software battery reset.I've uninstalled it but it doesnt work.any suggestions?I'm guessing one of the steps after full charge during the battery reset the battery gets drained where it says "plugged in and not charging" until it reaches zero is the problem.

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Situation: Currently deployed in Afghanistan with limited resources for my personal laptop. My windows 10 OS (Windows 8 came preinstalled on my laptop) stopped being able to boot up something about a config file missing. So my easiest option I could find was to downlaod UBUNTU onto a bootdrive from a buddys laptop. I installed ubuntu but want to know if theres a way of wiping my old Windows OS and getting it back? I could go back and find the error for the windows boot. But would honestly just like to wipe it and reinstall windows. I do not have a boot disc or product key that i know of for windows since it came preinstallled. Sorry if some of what i said was redundent! Appreciate any help!

Hi,
I recently purchased a used Toshiba T4800CT laptop. I've been looking for an owners manual, but I think my question can be easily answered by anyone who has a laptop. How is the battery charged? I am using a AC adaptor for power at this time. I tried to find a # or email address to contact Toshiba but due to my somewhat embarrasing lack of PC knowledge, have been unable to locate what I am looking for. Anyone offering some help is greatly appreciated! Sherrie

A:Recharging a battery

Most, if not all, laptops charge simply by connecting the AC adapter. When the adapter is connected, it will then power the laptop from the AC adapter, while charging the battery, if the machine is off, it will still charge the battery. Also, the charging board in the system(sometimes part of the mobo) will shut off when the battery becomes fully charged, so you don't have to worry about it overcharging the battery.

The computer I used was '' Lenovo Y510P ''. There is a '' Nvidia GT755M [SLI] '' as a display card. I have tried both ways of downloading the video card driver from both GeForce Experience and Nvidia driver site. Both kinds of graphics cards are starting to update. Later, the 'graphic driver is installed' part of the screen goes and never comes again. I can not enter Windows when I turn off the computer. I have to take format from scratch. After formatting, Windows automatically loads a graphics card driver in 2017, trying to update the driver again, it stays black on the screen again. I have to format again. With DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) program, I deleted the old video card driver and updated it again. But I met the same problem.I communicated with Nvidia and stated that I had such a problem. They asked me not to install the 388.13 video card driver. That graphics card driver has been loaded without any problems. But I have the same problem with all the video card drivers out there.NOTE: This problem only happens on Windows 10. I can update the display board without any problems in operating systems like Windows 8,8.1.NOTE: I have been having this problem for about 2 months, before I could update my display card in Windows 10 without a problem. The driver I am currently using is: 388.13

my laptop battery has no charge and will not recharge when plugged in . . . does this mean that i have to buy a new battery? or is there something else that could be causing this problem?

A:recharging laptop battery

It is most likely the battery. The charging system could have a problem, but in 99% of cases, it is a bad cell in the battery.

If you are handy, you may be able to open the battery case and test for the bad cell and replace just that. But it would involve cutting and somehow putting it all back together, and depending on the age of the battery and how well it was treated (cycling full discharges, for example, to "condition" the battery), repeating it all again when the next cell goes bad.

I have a Palm Pilot M505. When I recharge it, I check the home page to see the battery gauge. For the past 3 weeks, it's been showing about 95% full, but never 100%. The battery gauge indicates usage, but doesn't reach a full load anymore.

Any ideas?

Are there any Palm programs that will give me more info on the status of the battery?

How long should a fully charge Palm Pilot last?

Hello, I just recieved my ZBook G3 Studio and sometimes the battery appears to take a long time to recharge. In some cases it seems to take 20 minute to increase by 1%. I haven't done any offical tests but it seems that if I unplug/re-plug in, the power cord the rechardge rate improves.  I've got a couple ideas to test - wondering if going into, coming out of sleep mode might be were things go wrong. Thanks for any thoughts and/or suggestions. -Peter

I have the same problem... And at the moment I feel really frustrated by It.The "solutions" I found on the official HP forums are simply not plausible. They require stripping off batteries, praying on knees and use of magic potions made out of frog eyes and snake skin. For instance:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-ZBook-G3-Battery-is-plugged-in-but-doesn-t-charge... As it seems it is a flaw hidden somewhere between the bios and the drivers. It also seems it is an old problem which appears to happen to different HP Laptops. They could have solved it by now as the problem seems to be a few years old. I thought I have a high end product and I found myself with problems like this (just installing Windows 10, proved itself as a big challenge)... And they want to compete with Apple.... :-D :-)) BR

Hi. I no longer use this laptop for travel so am not too bothered that the battery no longer works, however, when I leave it on mains power, the machine always dies. Sometimes it can be almost as soon as it is switched on. Sometimes it will last longer. I have put it on the eco setting and told it never to switch off. I don't see why the battery should make a difference when it's on mains power but it does. The battery is internal so I would need to open up the machine to take it out. Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated. I use this as my work computer at home and really don't want to have to replace it. Thanks.

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Avoid purchasing lenovo y40!! I have a lenovo y40 about 2 years old now. About 6 months in, computer shut off without warning, battery guage stopped charging around 40%, randomly said 100% on some days, and eventually shut off without warning within 5 minutes unplugged. I posted on the forum and did every single solution lenovo suggested and solutions other people have tried and ended up having to purchase a new battery after several several months of trying to fix it, for about 100 dollars. Fast forward another 6 months with my second battery and the symptoms are back. Computer shuts off without warning within 10 minutes. I even took very good care of my battery this time, making sure to unplug overnight and letting battery drain good amount before charging. Just two weeks ago my computer was completely fine, and this happens all of a sudden. There is definitely a flaw somewhere. My battery guage will show 100% one moment, then shut off the next. Upon booting up it says 0% again. It charges up to 100% again over time and then the cycle starts again. If lenovo has any new solutions, im willing to try, but im not going to try all the old solutions from the other threads. I have been a lenovo fan for a while but with constant investments going in to fix the products, its incredibly frustrating.

Hi,

If you want to have a bad equipment, choose Lenovo.
Poor hardware and client support as poor as their hardwareFew months after buying a Lenovo Laptop (one of my bests errors). i had a soucy with my battery (it held 2h instead of 4. However, i took all the precautions to take care of the battery, when it was a 100% of charge, i unplugged the laptop).
I contacted the french client support Lenovo, all they answered was to restore the computer (so to format the hard disk drive) and to call them.
Lenovo is the biggest error that the computing knew.
My rate ? 0 (as well as for quality of the laptop than for the french customers support).

A:Lenovo G70-35 - Battery issue, get 2 hrs instead of 4hrs.

Hi Michel47 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

What I am led to believe about the technical supports goal on the factory reset is to immediately isolate that this is not anything affected by the software . If you are to have the same charging issue then most likely you would offer service needed by your machine specially with the battery.

Back up your files as needed and try to continue with your technican and have this issue attended as soon as possible.
Hope you both arrive on what would work best for the case in hand.

Regards

Hey guys;I purchased a Lenovo Y700 almost 1.5 years ago (Lenovo ideapad Y70015ISK and Product Number: 80NV). I have never played a game on this, mostly net browsing, working with office products, watching youtube vids, and this sort of light tasks. The battery has been lasting for almost 4 hours until recently. By the way, I did not keep the the laptop connected to the outlet for all the time. When it was fully charged, I would unplug it. At least, i did it for 80% of the time.A few days ago, I noticed that the battery is not holding charge as before. I realized that now it only last for around (less than) 2 hours. It is really surprising for me, as It di not start to decline slowly and gradually. It suddenly went from 4 hours to 2 hours. What is happening with my battery? The Lenovo Vantage shows the battery is in "Good" condition. Is it dying? Is less than 2 years a normal life time of such batteries? Thanks

Hi guys!  I tried to open my computer today (the charger was not plugged in) it didn't open. So I plugged the charger, tried it again and turned it on. But the charge was not running, the charger was plugged in but it couldn't charge. I waited a little bit and the charge came to 100% within 2 minutes of 2% and it said "your battery is fully charged, please remove it from the socket". When I removed it, it suddenly went off. And I switched it on again, it showed 0%.For the solution, I tried to download Lenovo Energy Manager for Windows 10, the driver was loaded but the application did not open so I could not use it. Then I downloaded Windows 8 version and tried to reset gauge, it didn't work and shuts itself down again. Now I can only use the plugged in . But this situation affected the performance of the computer very much, I study architecture so i have to fix this immediately. Please help me

My Y50-70 battery is still in good condition after 3.5 years of use, I can tell by the fact that it lasts for more than 2.5 hours in High Performance mode going from 100% to 20%. I mostly use the laptop plugged in with Conservation Mode on. I regularily do cycles of the battery mostly when I'm traveling with Conservation Mode off. The cycle count is around 200, so I know it's half way its service life. However when the battery reaches around 20% I need to imediately plug it in, because then it could go down to 0% in a minute. In fact when it shows 20%, the moment I plug it in AC the battery gauge shows imediately 0% and then is slowly going up. I'm like 95% sure that the problem is with the battery gauge, and there was a Battery Gauge Reset option in the Lenovo Utilities preinstalled on the Windows 8 OS that came preinstalled when I bought it. Windows 8 and 8.1 were such a disasters but luckily then in less than a year came Windows 10 and everything ran smooth, except for the fact that Lenovo dropped half of the utilities to perform useful tasks like Fan Dust Removal and Battery Gauge Reset, instead they are offering useless software like Photo Master in the Support Section. Somehow I managed to install two years ago a version of Lenovo Quick Optimizer that does the trick for performing Fan Dust Removal but no luck with Battery Gauge Reset. Recently my trusted X1 Carbon, which had a normal battery life after about 5 years of use, of about an hour or so.  Recently this suddenly changed to 15 mins so I thought it was time to change the battery.  After buying a "new" battery off of eBay, giving it a full charge and pulling the power cable to test it something strange happened... It first said that there was approximately 2+ hours of normal operation, so I continued to use it.  It seemed to operate normal but after about 50 mins or so when the battery was apparenly at 68%, it just jumped to 15% and went into low power mode. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the battery or is there an underlying issue? Any drivers or firmware I should be upgrading. Thanks in advanceKW

Like totally black...if you needlessly stare at the black screen for a few seconds you can see very very faint background (which is the desktop itself)...and when plugged back in, the brightness comes back alive again.Brightness controls are working well, drivers are updated. I even OneKey recovered my laptop to its initial state but to no avail. Still has the problem. The laptop is currently at factory state, still functional with that brightness being an issue on battery mode.

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

Hi guys,I have a one-year old Lenovo Z510, I have already flashed the battery firmware 5 months ago.Now the laptop shutoff at 35% of batter with no warning or notice that the battery is almost empty. This problem was occurring before the first firmware flash and that flash solved it. So please is there any other firmware update because I cannot flash the current firmware (same version).

Okay here are the details:Windows 10 HomeIdeapad Y510P, only a few years oldworks perfectly finebattery at 0%, plugged-in not chargingoriginal battery and power cordsI can't remember how to get this message to pop up again, but I remember it saying something along the lines of 'Lenovo does not support batteries they didn't make so we are going to pretend you don't have one in'. I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

My battery keeps jumping from 40% to 7% within a matter of minutes. I tried resetting my battery but the battery won't go to 100% charged to be able to reset it (it only charges to 99%). How do I fix my batter if I cannot fully charge the battery and then fully discharge the battery?

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... A:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.
