Linux CentOS 7.6 on ThinkPad P72

Q: Linux CentOS 7.6 on ThinkPad P72

Hi All, I got my P72 with 2x1TB NVMe and 128 GB RAM with Windows 10. I am wondering if someone has tried to install CentOS 7.6 on P72. I read somewhere about ThunderBolt BIOS corruption so I am reluctant to be the firstone to try it out and brick my machine. Ideally, I would like to have dual boot for Windows and Linux or I can simply take out the Windows NVMe and replace that with a new NVMe and install CentOS 7.6. I need that to run multiple VMs for software demo purposes using CentOS. If there is someone who has successfully installed CentOS 7.6 on P72, please let me know your experience or tips. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've just bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga (this one: https://www.lenovo.com/de/de/laptops/thinkpad/l-series/ThinkPad-L13-Yoga/p/22TPL13L3Y1) with both a touchscreen and a so-called "Thinkpad Pen Pro" stylus for handwriting. On my Manjaro installation (Arch Linux with gnome) the pen works like a broken mouse, allowing me to move the cursor around and execute left-clicks upon pressing it into the screen really hard. However, Both of the pen's buttons do nothing and I can neither use it to select text nor to draw lines in graphics software such as Krita. It is also not registered by gnome's settings no matter how much I move the pen around, resulting in a picture that looks like this:As much as I love Linux, not being able to take handwritten lecture notes is kind of a big dealbreaker for me right now... Do any of you have experience with Yogas and their pen support for Linux systems? Or do I really need to downgrade to Windows 10 again?

HiI'm using the P1 with 64G RAM and Xeon CPU and several virtual machines running concurrently under VMWare WStation. The P1 runs under Win10 workstation and  i would like to possibly have VMare host running under a Linux distro rather than MSWin as it seems more efficient. But searching seems to indicate Lenovo has no Linux certification for P1. Any views on this ? Best

I am running Ubuntu 19.10 on a recently-purchased X1 Extreme gen 2. The installed BIOS version is 1.26. I looked in the Drivers & Software page and I see that 1.27 was released on 29 October. However, running `fwupdmgr --get-updates` says "No upgrades for 20QVCTO1WW System Firmware, current is 0.1.26: 0.1.23=older, 0.1.23=older". How long does it usually take for firmware updates to be available via fwupdmgr? Should I manually update? I downloaded the BIOS Update Utility for Linux and the README. The directions in the README are clear, but nowhere do I see the 20QVCTO1WW ID mentioned above and want to make sure that I have the correct files. The BIOS Update Utility download is called `n2oul06w.zip` and contains 3 CAB files: N2OET40P.cab, N2OET40W.cab and N2OHT32W.cab. Is this the right file? Which one should I apply? Thanks in advance,-Mario.

Does the X1E support S3 sleep under Linux? It can't wake from suspend in Ubuntu Linux 18.10. Do we have to wait for Lenovo to offer such support through a BIOS update (like the X1C6) before wake from suspend or hibernate is possible under Linux?

Hello,I'm under Ubuntu 18.04. I haven't updated the BIOS since purchase, so the current version is:- UEFI 1.08 (N22ET31W)- ECP 1.05 (N22HT20W)That is, January 2018.I would need to know if it's safe to directly upgrade the BIOS from versions 1.08 to 1.34 (ECP 1.17) using the officially recommended fwupdmgr procedure (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-...), or if the upgrade should be performed more incrementally. In addition, the corresponding n22ul17w.zip archive contains two cab files (N22ET57W.cab and N22HT32W.cab); it looks like one contains the UEFI BIOS and the other one the ECP. Should both be installed sequentially after ZIP extraction (and if so, in which order), or is fwupdmgr "ZIP-aware", i.e.fwupdmgr install n22ul17w.zipwould work? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am having a whole range of display problems trying to setup dual external monitors using the DisplayPorts on the ThinkPad Workstation Dock model 40A5 with a TP P50 running  Linux.  Most notably, only one DisplayPort works and only in conjunction with the internal ThinkPad monitor; I never see both external monitors in the Display setup utility.  So I can not get the DisplayPort/DisplayPort combination to work.  Also, the VGA/DisplayPort combination does not work.  Just very bizarre behavior.  I am using RHEL 7.2. Has anyone had luck making this combination work?
