I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003-9YN162 like the one shown on this firmware update page:

Barracuda (1TB/disk platform) Firmware Update

Because i've been having problems waking from sleep mode I wanted to update the firmware on it from my version now CC9B to its current version of CC9D. I downloaded its windows update utility and ran it. Everything seemed ok, it shut down windows, restarted, ran the updater, then it said "FAILED" in big red letters then asked me to go back to Windows. I did, everything was ok nothing got messed up.

Why did it fail to update the firmware? Was it because I didn't have CC9C and it didn't want to skip from CC9B to CC9D? Do I need to update to CC9C first? What should I do?

The update utility says that it cant be run on "RAID Systems". My system is capable of RAID but I dont have a raid setup i use ACHI. Do I need to go into my BIOS and disable something that has to do with RAID? As far as I know I have nothing enabled that has to do with RAID. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A:Seagate HDD Firmware update failed. Why?

I suspect that if your drive is not listed here: ALL FIRMWARE UPDATES - see here - Seagate Community Forums
Which I don't see, a firmware update is not needed nor compatible with the update.

I turned on my computer and a message popped up to update my 3 month old Samsung firmware.
I used Magician 4.5, pushed the button, and it said "failed to update drive with new firmware".
Oh? When I rebooted later my OS would not boot. I went into the bios and it ID'd the drive as Samsung 3.
Now I can't boot the drive at all. I burned the ISO of the firmware update but it can NOT find the drive in DOS. If I boot with another drive and the ruined drive together, both Samsung 840 Pro and Samsung 850 Pro, it jams the boot until I remove the damaged drive. Anybody have any knowledge or any ideas?

I have already solved this issue myself, but perhaps I can help someone else with the same problem. After installing the latest firmware on my Ideapad 700, I was met with a list of bootable devices (HDD + network cards), none of which worked. To solve this, I put the Windows 10 installation on a USB flashdrive and booted from it, then navigated to the command prompt (Repair your computer -> Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> Command Prompt). From there, I entered the following commands:diskpart
sel disk 0
list volI noticed that the wrong drive (the FAT32 system partition) had the letter C assigned, so I selected that one and changed it to a free letter:sel vol 0
assign letter h:Then changed my Windows drive back to C:sel vol 1
assign letter c:
exitI then rebuilt the boot sector (using the FAT32 system partition), just to be safe:bootrec /fixboot
bcdboot C:\Windows /s h: /f
exitThen, I rebooted and it went back to Windows! Hope this helps someone.

Seagate has issued an official statement today, acknowledging all recent problems with some Barracuda 7200.11 drives. Based on the information posted in the company's forums here, select Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB 3.5-inch hard drives made in Thailand, suffer from a firmware issue that bricks the HDDs after a short period of time. After three to five months of normal operation these defective hard drives will suddenly lock-up as a protective measure and prevent the system from recognizing the drive from then onwards. In most cases the information won't be lost, but the drive will be completely useless, changing the drive's electronics won't help much either. This problem occurs not only to the 1TB Barracuda models, but to Seagate 1.5TB, 640GB, 500GB, 320GB and 160GB Barracuda 7200.11 drives, along with some Maxtor and ES.2 models. That's pretty disturbing, but now Seagate will provide its customers with an updated firmware if their drive is problematic.

Here's the full statement from the company's spokesman Mike Hall:
Seagate has isolated a potential firmware issue in certain products, including some Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives and related drive families based on this product platform, manufactured through December 2008. In some circumstances, the data on the hard drives may become inaccessible to the user when the host system is powered on*.

Hi there people, This a follow to a previous thread I started as my former 400 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 HDD was faulty. I have since returned it to Seagate who took over a month to send me a new one!

The problem is the one they sent me doesn't seem to work either, it makes a horrible noise on start-up and then in Bios it reports the status as bad and advises to first back up and then replace the drive. Once it boots into windows it seems o.k but often causes crashes and some really slow performance. I use it as a media drive and it has a lot of video and audio files on it.

The problem is really getting to me as I need the drive for my work and I worried that if I send them back this drive they are just going to send me another that doesn't work and also it cost me every time I send it back! If anyone has anay advice on what it could be please let me know, does it sound as if it's a problem with the rest of my pc or just the drives their sending me? The first HDD problem was different to this one so I guess it's just the drives that are at fault.

Thanks in advance,

Will

A:Seagate Hard drive has bad status and makes horrible noises on boot-up!

Difficult to tell, depends on the noise, is it clicking, or whirring noisily ?

Tried chkdsk to scan your hard drive in search of a wide range of errors. This tool can also attempt to correct a number of hard drive problems.

Would lean more towards the HDD being faulty rather then the PC, but as I said difficult to tell without further analysis.

After that and the rest of the time it runs fine.

Could it be a power supply issue on startup or is there something definitely wrong with my hard drive.

Many thanks

Hi. I ran the Samsung 840 EVO Firmware update that was provided because of the degrading problem said to be with the product.

It went all the way through and said complete. There were no problems or interruptions there. I closed the application and rebooted my machine.

The computer will get to the windows screen but right when it is supposed to go to the login it goes black and the monitors stop detecting a signal. It just sits at a black screen.

The scary thing is that when i try to run a recovery all executables associated with a given recovery error out. I.E. StartRep.exe fails to run. Trying to load previous working fails to run to. They get memory exception type errors!

I put in the windows 7 disc and have had it come up with "hit key to boot from cd or dvd". all repair attempts are the same as above. They fail the same way.

The only thing I have not figured out is how to get the machine to load into safe mode. i have been hitting F8 and doing what I can but I get no such options. My options are only the repair dialogs or boot normally. I do not understand why this machine has never given me a choice to boot to safe mode. How can I get that to work?

Please help! Is there anything I can do? I can't find any samsung forums or info.

A:Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive not showing up on Windows?

It is likely formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled), HFS+. Windows can't natively read that.

"I try to take the files out that I put on a windows 7 PC" is a confusing statement. If you want to read the files on the drive from 7, you can't without a 3rd party tool. If you are just wanting to put stuff on there from the PC and don't care about the Mac backup, then just format the drive. Do that through Disk Management in the Admin Tools control panel.

Any 3.5" drive at 2T or under should work fine.  Upgrading the CPU would mean buying used - these CPUs went out of production not long after your system was current - and that was a decade ago.

Hi! I recently bought an Inspiron 15 7000 (7559). I went to the "Drivers and Downloads" section of the Dell website for my model and downloaded and installed the latest  drivers and updates. The issue started when I got to the "Seagate ST500LM000/ST1000LM014 Firmware Update" download. I opened the bottom of the laptop and made sure that the update was for my HDD. My model was ST1000LM014 so I downloaded the update "Kahuna_ZPE.exe" and ran it.It started to run but then stopped at where it said "rEFInd - Initializing" and a bunch of lines saying "Binary is verified by the vendor certificate". I thought maybe it just took time to initialize so I left for a workshop I needed to do at work and asked my wife to see what would happen. 8 hours after when I got home, it was still on the same screen. Now, when I switch it off and on, it always goes back to the same screen.Has anyone encountered the same issue before and know how to resolve this? Thank you.

A:Stuck at "rEFInd-Initializing" after trying to update Seagate HDD firmware

I had the same issue on my Dell 7559 today. When it tried to install the update it seemed to go into a loop with similar info. The only way I got it to proceed was - at the point where it changes screens (on my PC, it changes) a list of options appear. After much trial & error, I found I could move from one selection to another, then make a selection by moving the up/down keyboard arrows and entering a choice. Some of the options led to the "Safe" screen, which I couldn't find a use for. The top listing was the only one that I hit on that went through a cycle, that didn't seem to end correctly, but at least it stopped the loop. I'm sur Dell support is needed to make any sense of this one.
If I learn any more, I'll update the info.  Mike

Seatools for DOS sounds like it would do the trick but it didnotrecognizeeitherofmyexternaldrives, theotheroneofwhichisworking. Can anyone recommend a fix? Seems to me that it is a software problem, not a hardware problem, so there should be a software solution. I have very limited funds and can't afford to replace the drive right now. It is used as a backup drive so loss of the data on the drive is not an issue. I'll just run another backup when the drive is restored to health. My boot drive is not backed up on this drive, so that is not a problem.

I've got Win XP, and bought an additional internal 350GB hd from Seagate. I've had absolutely no problems with it so far.

I woke up this morning, and my computer was acting uncharacteristically slow, so I rebooted. It took several times to reboot in order to get to the password screen, it would just take exceptionally long to go through the waiting screen, on safe mode, regular mode, etc.

I finally was able to get on, and I opened a folder which is a shortcut to my Seagate for music, but I got a pop up from Windows claiming "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'Music.lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again'

I've tried going into My Computer, the drive isn't there, nor does it appear when I right click, under manage...

There's been no physical trauma, movement, or anything to my tower. Could it possibly be a virus? I've used uTorrent for a while, but never had any issues with corrupt files (that I know of), and a full scan with AVG hasn't turned anything up.

Any thing I can do to get back my hard drive? I appreciate it :)

A:Seagate hard drive gone...

The slow boot times and the fact that the drive is no longer found by Windows, would seem to indicate the HDD has failed. If you disconnect the HDD, your boot times will return to normal. If it's still under warranty, you can have it replaced.

That does look strange. I assume that it's a used disk you've added since there's already a 270GB partition on it? HOWEVER, It doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it.

What exactly is it you want to do? Delete everything on it and create a single 2TB partition or what? Assign a drive letter to the existing partition so you can see what's on there?

There's a free partition tool you can use to do all kinds of partition work that Windows Disk Management can't do. You can find it HERE.

If all you want to do is to expand the existing partition, via WIndows DIsk Management, to use the available space on the disk? Then there's a guide on that HERE.

Just remember that if you delete the existing partition ALL data on it will be lost.

I'm having trouble getting Windows 7 x86 RC Build 7100 to recognize my Seagate 3.5" External Hard Drive 500GB (Model ST305004EXA101-RK). It is connected through a USB 2.0 port on my Asus K8V SE Motherboard - running an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (2.0 GHz) and 1 GB of RAM.

Currently, this hard drive when connected appears in Device and Printers as as "Device" named Desktop. Right Click -> Properties shows that it is a storage device.

Device Manager recognizes it as a Disk Drive and calls it a Seagate Desktop USB Device - no conflicts.

Under Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management the drive appears as Disk 1 - Basic and Online statuses. If I try and assign it a drive letter, I get the following "The operation failed to complete becasue the Disk Managment Console view is out of date. Please refresh the console view..."

Only one conflict exists in Device Manager - I have one Unknown Device under USB Controllers. When viewing that device, it gives me a Code 43 error.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Seagate pocket hard drive . I'm looking to buy the 2.5 GB hard drive the Seagate offers. I know Seagate is a reputable business but is there another type of pocket hard drive that you feel is better for the money. Right now the price for this thing is in the $70 range ended by one of acted sooner I could've gotten it for under $70. Can you tell me is there something better for the price?

A:Looking to buy seagate pocket hard drive.

Seagate pocket drives are good but they are not really cost effective comapred to what you can put together yourself. the seagate (and Other) pocket drives are only 4-6gb in size. they are also only about 4800RPM.

in contrast you can guy a 40GB laptop hard drive with an 8Mb cache and 5400 RPM for around 60.00 and a USB 2.0 slim line enclosure for around 10-17 bucks (it is only slightly larger than the Seagate pocket drive.)

so for 70-80 bucks yuo can have a FAST, LARGE compact portable storage device instead of a compact, slow, limited space portable storage device.

you can find all you need at Newegg. and I highly recommend the samsung 40GB 8mb laptop drive.

It sounds like the external harddrive has died - do you have copies of the files on your computer as well?

Assuming the drive is dead and it is not an issue with the USB connection, it is possible to get the files off of the harddrive though companies that provide such services often charge a high price.

Would this be the usb cord? or would this be something wrong with the hard drive itself?

Don't know exactly what you need, but here are the numbers on it.

A:Seagate Hard Drive Problems!

Could be a cable or drive issue. As it doesn't appear that it's being recognized or installed properly, it could simply be a faulty enclosure. In which case you could remove the drive from the enclosure (*will VOID your warranty*) and connect it internally, via a USB adapter, or with another enclosure.

And you should have a BACKUP copy of all data that you don't want to lose. If it's important, more than one copy. Live and learn.

Hello forum, my Seagate external hard drive which i thought had burnt actually works. But there is a problem, I remember it used to have all its lights shining before, at least sometimes. Also it makes noises sometimes and sometimes it does not. So I thought it got spoilt because when i used to plug it there were no lights and no sound.

Now i still get the same reaction but i miraculously can access the files, so it did not burn right?

Also i have some ''backups'' maybe two but there are some files which are mixed with the original files from the Seagate external hard drive, so i dont know 1) if i should remove anything or place it somewhere else 2) if removing or deleting any files will affect anything in the backups or in the external hard drive. Some files are mixed with the external hard drive files so i dont know how to separate them

Also, i dont know what the external hard drive files do, and what to do if i ever accidentally delete them. I do not remember having a manual for it, maybe i lost it, but i dont have it now also i do not have the box...So i do not know which model it is

The first drive you put in was a 16MB(?!) do you mean GB or 160 GB? The next drive was a Seagate TB drive? Do you mean a Seagate SATA 2 TB drive? is that correct?
If you have run HDD scan and it fails, then the drive is probably bad, unless it is brand new. Then it is probably a bad SATA cable, Power plug, Try changing the cable and try a different power plug, or the Power Supply Unit of the computer is failing.

A friend has broken the USB socket on his Seagate external harddrive making it unuseable.
There's a lot of info on the drive he wants to get off. If i open the case (if I can find a tool that will do it ) what am I going to find? Does it consist of a basic IDE harddrive with an adaptor to the usb so I can just hook it up as a slave via the IDE?
Thanks for any advice

Hello everyone,

I assume that this issue has been posted multiple times, but I believe my issue is unique. I have a desktop PC running Windows 7, and I am trying to run a 2TB Seagate USB 3.0/2.0 hard drive that I bought today.

My problem is my computer recently got shorted by a power outage or something like that, and I had to replace the USB ports. I now only have 4, so I put an external hub that has 4 ports. I can easily run everything with those 7 ports, except I cannot use USB's or flash drives or hard drives of any kind. It will simply not show up. My current set-up is like so;

(0 means open port, U means used, \ means cord to hub.)

0 U U U
\
0 0 0 0

As you can see, I have left the hub completely unused. This seems to be the best way to do it so far. I can plug the hard drive into the hub and that makes it work, but as you can imagine it is RIDICULOUSLY slow. This is not what I wanted, as I am looking to transfer over 500 gigabytes of data. I have tested the hard drive on a Windows 7 laptop and it worked perfectly.

I know that is not much information, but if you can think of anything please let me know.

Tom.

Is it a externally AC powered Harddrive? Quite often running a USB drive through a hub causes it to have insufficient power for operation. I'm unsure from your post, but does connecting it to a port directly make it work?

I have a samsung sv4080h that passes all shdaigs tests including smart. On bootup I am getting a smart error. I think I need the correct firmware or driver for this drive.
I have really been through the mill with this thing, 2nd drive I have tried etc.
It is using the same driver as my sv8004h. I have googled, yahoo'd and everything I can think of.
The drive works fine, it reads great. Passed samsungs surface, spin up and spin down , and smart tests.
Looked on driverguide.com. Does anyone know if it is possible to get hard disk drivers?
Everything is great except I have to hit F2 on every boot. I'll live with that if I have to, but this has got to be a driver issue.

A:Hard drive firmware.

What is the exact error? Did you check Samsung's site for the driver/firmware update?

I know that hardware comes with firmware ... but I don't understand what it does?

Specifically, the hard drive; its firmware.

Firmware is software instructions that are read by the processor, right? ROM, exactly?

It is read-only-memory. But what does it do and what is it exactly needed for?

I thought the hard drive's actuator arm was controlled by the dependency of the kernel under an operating system?

Or is the firmware to guide the arm when it reads and writes over the platter, writes to certain sectors, etc.?

I really am interested in this, but nothing seems to explain this; no source.

I mean do the kernel's base instructions alarm the hard drive's firmware to take action, resulting in the desired operation or instructing?

How does this make sense? I am curious about this, and would really appreciate it if some one here knew more on this than me.

Please help!
After yesterdays update (I used the media creation tool), I now have 3 partitions on my C drive.
The top drive, before the update, didn't have the partition on the right (NTFS 450MB used).
My boot file were in my "E" drive, but now where are they?
Can I get rid of that 450MB???

Here's a different view of the partition:
If I open the 450MB partition and here's what is in it:

Here's what's in the "E" patition:

A:After Anniversary update...where are my hard drive boot files???

I just deleted it 450mb partition. It seems to be OK now.

I have a Macrium boot up drive and a couple of image files if I need to go back.
