Touch screen and pen/stylus stop working - Helix

Q: Touch screen and pen/stylus stop working - Helix

Note taking with my new Helix is unbelievably frustrating! It's Windows 8 Pro -- fully updated (Windows and Lenovo drivers and apps). I am using Microsoft OneNote 2013. The problem is regular locking up or freezing of one or the other of the touch screen or the pen / stylus. Sometimes the pen still works, but fingers on the touch screen have no effect. Other times the the touch screen works, but not the pen. I'm not 100% certain that it's limited just to OneNote, but that's where it's guaranteed to happen. I can "fix" the problem most of the time by putting the Helix into sleep mode and then waking. Other times I have to shut down and restart. During a two hour session this will happen a dozen times at least. This makes it nearly unusable. Rob

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I experience almost the same problem. It seems that when I use OneNote with the stylus, the touch input stops working. I know that it is supposed to be disabled while using the stylus on/near the screen. What happens is that if I for instance use the stylus, switch to the windows 8 tile screen and try to use my finger nothing happens. If I touch an icon with the stylus it works, and then I can use my fingers - for a little while. Then it stops working again, and I need to use the stylus to reactivate touch input. And so on and so on. I tried to do what bloggs stated could work - to put the device in sleep mode and restart. This resulted in the windows 8-version of the bluescreen...

????I am facing a rather unique problem with the Thinkpad Helix (2nd Gen). The thing is, we have two Helix laptops in our family. Sometime after the upgrade to Win 10, I faced significant problems with the touchpad - the point would stop moving and even disappear and even the trackpoint would not work at this point. But the touch display was (and still is) working flawlessly, so I simply shut down Windows and started again. Since this was not the ideal scenario, I had a chat with a Lenovo executive and with some friends, and after considering all the opinions, uninstalled the drivers for the touchpad and reinstalled them (with the automatic "search for drivers online" option. Problem solved! Although I am still facing a few minor issues (which I dont want to address right now) with this machine, it is now functioning well enough for normal daily use.So, with the July 29 deadline for the free Win 10 upgrade looming, I decided it was better to upgrade and possibly regret rather than regret not installing. And, as expected, I faced the touchpad problems soon after the upgrade (which I was kinda prepared for, or so I thought). Armed with the solution which worked on the first Helix, I went about the uninstalling and reinstalling of the touchpad (and later some other) drivers. Sure enough, the touchpad problem went away. However, this has now resulted in the touch screen not responding to touch (of finger or pen). When I saw the "about" in settings, the display properties ... Read more

Yoga thinkpad 20cd. I have the original stylus that came with the lap top as well as an aftermarket LIfebook stylus. The screen doesn't register either stylus. When i go to the windows pen calibration the stylus works fine. The calibration consists of tapping targets with the stylus pen. It is very accurate. Soon as i close the calibration window the stylus doesn't interact with the screen at all. I assume I must have changed some setting by accident or it occurred with an update. The stylus use to work a few months ago. I have tried messing with my display settings to remove the adaptive brightness at one point and may have selected a wrong setting. Thank you for any help provided.

ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... Hello,I had problems with OneNote win8-appa dn OneNote 2013 long before this happened: sometimes the touch screen function was completely shut dow and unusable but more often the pen/stylus completely stopped working.I found a workaround for this problem from the forums: installing a wacom driver and using a user-submitted simple batch-file to restart the driver and get rid of the cursor getting stuck in the upper left corner.Today at school I turned on my Helix, opened OneNote and tried to take notes but the pen did not work and there was no cursor; not even in the top left corner. Next thing I did I uninstalled the wacom driver and tried to reinstall it but all I get is "supported tablet was not found on the system" even though I restarted the system with the pen out of the dock. After that I tried all the current versions one after another and nothing helps. It also seems like there's no other drivers on my system as the pen and touch- properties in control panel yields no information or settings regarding the pen - only touch.I have no idea what to do, no idea what drivers to uninstall/reinstall. Can anyone help me or does anyone else have this same problem?

A:Thinkpad Helix 3698-6CG stylus/pen not working at all

Update: things I've done so far includeun- and reinstalling all related drivers I could find, checking if BIOS is up to date (it is), tried installing wacom drivers, reinstalled windows 8 pro, fully updated windows and all drivers, restarted again and again. There's no response from the pen. Nothing happens when I take it out of the silo and try to use it: clicking and writing both yield nothing. It's like it didn't even exist. As I try to open the pen settings like calibration from the control panel, these setting don't seem to be accessible at all: the pen-related tabs and options that used to be in "pen and touch" and "tablet pc settings" are nowhere to be found. It seems as though the whole hardware part has gone missing and the software with it. There's definitely no trace of any digitizer-related stuff.I tried to install the wacom drivers, all the versions I could find (of course one at a time and uninstalling one before installing another). The latest (7.1.1-16) like all the others can't detect any presence of wacom hardware, even if I remove the pen from the silo and restart the machine with or without it - I tried both ways just to be sure.Everything else works fine. I can use all touch-related actions no prob and I've had no problems with the keyboard. Please help, I have no idea what to do.Forgive me for any grammar mistakes and typos, both posts were made in a hurry.

Hi from germany, i have exacly the same problem here. I bought the identical helix system with i7 and 8gb. Sadly i have the same issues. The touchscreen started to be unresponsive and/or laggy, all over the screen. Then somehow it started to make phantomtouches on one point again and again. This phantomtouches are fighting with the stylus, trackpad and sometimes touches of my hand. Needless to say that the rate of phantomtouches is that high that you can't win the fight. I tried recalibration, driver updates, windowsupdates, did a rollback (2x) and reseted the whole Helix Thinkpad to the original delivery status. After doing the reset via windows the notebook rebooted and .... the phantomtouch was right on the exact same point as before. Even before i could register my pcname and so on. Not to mention that this error accured in tablet and notebookmode. Sometimes the phantomtouches stopped, but they just returned 5minutes later. Would love to see a solution there.

A:Re: Lenovo Helix Touch Screen Malfunctioning

I received my Helix (36984SU, i7, 8gb RAM, 256 gb HD) approximately 10 days ago.  Over the weekend I began to experience malfunctioning of the touch screen when using in tablet mode.  At first there was a single vertical section of the touch screen that was unresponsive.  Now, the problem has spread to the entire touch screen although the bottom half (when held in landscape) is basically inoperable - the screen detects "phantom" touches and very inaccurate real touches (as shown below).  Squeezing the bezel around the screen seems to cause more phantom touches to be detected.

The stylus works fine although it tends to battle with the touch screen because the touch screen is constantly detecting "phantom" touches.

Also, I just re-docked the tablet last night and found that the touch-pad mouse also gets stuck in the bottom left of the screen but is released after about 10 seconds of being docked.  This may be due to fighting with the touch screen as well.

I tried re-calibrating but I can't even hit the targets given in the re-calibration tool due to the inaccuracy.

As you can see in the image below, I drew the red arrows with the stylus and then I went back and traced the red arrows with my finger thus producing the green lines with the touch screen.

I also created a couple videos of the malfunction in action:

I purchased a HP Pavillion 14-n229TX more than 2 years ago. Everything is going OK until one day the touch screen stop working. Then the day after it worked again and then stop working until now. I think this problem is caused by a software problem. So I refresh windows 10 with the tool from Microsoft, it does not help. The next step, I created a media boot USB and format the windows partition and start a brand-new windows 10. Magically, it worked, I have my touch screen back in a few first setup steps of windows 10, the whole touch screen was working fine... until I finish all these steps. My touch screen was gone... again. I have tried every solution on web that I found include:- reenable, reinstall HID touch screen driver in Device management- update driver through AMD, HP Support Assisstant- I event clean the sreen with no hopeNow I don't know what to do next to get my touch feature back again.Experts please help me.Thank you very much.

Hi all, I hope you can help me here.
I have bought a Laptop Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series an year ago, and almost 2 months ago, sometimes the tablet mode did not work so well as while turning it back to laptop (by turning the screen), it stays in tablet mode. Never mind i managed to continue using and disabling the automatic mode change. However last week stopped working at all, and now i see that the touch screen is not respoinding either, even when you touch it you would see that is reacting but now nothing.
I tried to reinstall Windows 10, check drivers, uninstall them are reinistalling but  ( not able to take out the battery as is not possible in this model) and still is not working.

Can you please help?

Thanks

Thanks for helping me..

A:Laptop Inspiron 15 7000 Series - Touch Screen Stop Working

Look in the control panel under Pen and Touch.  If you don't see a touchscreen listed, it may be the connection has come loose or the cable is damaged -- you'll need to remove the base cover and check the connection between the screen and mainboard.
The service manual you need depends on the model you have - is it  a 7778, 7737, 7779 etc.)?

we are interested for a touch screen laptop, but this is more for my wife who is a teacher.
She likes the way our Samsung Note handles the S-pen and she would want to use a simialr pen with the laptop at classes.

Is there such a facility for pens with sharp edges to be used with a Flex for example?
Or we should jsut get those black, rubber, thick capacitive pens?

A:Flex - touch screen Pen/Stylus?

Here is a pen great for writing: http://www.adonit.net/jot/pro/Just search for 'best capacitive stylus' on Google. Pick the one you like mostAre you interested in the ThinkPad 10 perhaps? It has a digitizer pen, it will also disable touch input while the pen is being used. Which is quite useful. It is a small step up to 700 EUR. Also get the keyboard dock.http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/thinkpad/thinkpad-10/I can say with 100% certainty your wife will love it. I got its more expensive brother the ThinkPad Helix. If a student can love it, so can the teacher right ;-) ?The ThinkPad 10 has many flexible options she might be interested in. You won't find anything better for that price.

You need a special screen but I can't remember the term for that, maybe digitized.

Hi, March of  last year (2016) I bought the Lenovo Ideacentre AIO 700 24" mainly because the clerk at BestBuy told me I could draw right on the screen with a stylus and that was not just on Sketchbook Pro 7 (bundled in) but with any drawing program. I called Lenovo at that time, they said the same thing.  I put it away as I had projects to complete and now have it set up, bought a Wacom Intuos Pro Paper Edition, which is great, but that stylus doesn't work on Sketchbook, or anywhere on the screen. Neither does my old little Bamboo Tablet's stylus. Wacom says, Oh, sorry, try another maybe. Lenovo said, only Wacom, then they realized my warranty or whatever had expired two weeks ago and wouldn't continue the conversation, stating if I were to purchase a new year, they could talk to me further, otherwise no. Nothing works and I cannot find any info....so here I am.Is there the functionality of drawing on my screen with a stylus of any kind at all? I know many are available but Wacom's are not compatible, and though I love my desktop, every reason I got it and the new $549.  Wacom Intuos Pro Paper Edition (great product) and all I actually wish to do is draw with a stylus on this screen. No info online, maybe there's an expert here!

I need to know if there is a stylus I can use which looks and feels quite like a pen, I don't like the compressible rubbery feel of some stylus, they are not smooth enough.

A:Which stylus should I use with my Inspiron 15r touch laptop? Will a 'Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel' work with it?

Hi Shaurya,Welcome to Dell community.
Yes you can use stylus pen with this system.
15z has 15.6" LED-Backlit LCD Capacitive Multi-touch screen, so you can use Targus Stylus with this system which Dell recommends. For further help you can click on the below mentioned link:
http://bit.ly/VoK4ml
The Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel is the newest stylus from Wacom that a user in that forum said works well. The site, http://bit.ly/WSqVAQ  , says it's compatible with the Latitude 10. Technically, any of the non-battery (somehow powered wirelessly by the tablet) powered Wacom stylus should work.
Please reply me if you need any further help.

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Click 10 tablet which runs Windows 10 home. I am looking to purchase a fine point stylus with USB charging capability (similar to this one Amazon.com: Stylus Pen, BoxWaveŽ [AccuPoint Active Stylus] Electronic Stylus with Ultra Fine Tip for Smartphones and Tablets - Jet Black: Electronics).

I don't need pressure sensitivity, it is for making very simple diagrams and highlighting text in some applications. It is an item I envisage using maybe once or twice a week. I don't want one that has a plastic disk on the end.

I noticed quite a few have a battery that only last 12 hours so looking for something which is rechargeable.

My budget is "as little as possible" but could realistically extend to the ~US$50 mark.

Does anyone have experience with a stylus that they can recommend?

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I cannot enable it and when i check in the properties the following message displays: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... [YouTube]Exept for my phantom touches only occure in the lower corners of the screen. Which doesn't make it any better, though.Rebooting gives me a break for a few minutes, but then it start again out of nowhere. Sadly, for some time, after the repair i haven't used the notebook at at all, so I didn't realize there is this problem.During this time, of course my ThinkPlus Service and the warranty for the device run out. But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. I was able to use the touch input completely problem-free again and felt happy like a little child, not knowing how much is missed this comfort! The problem w... Read more

Hello, I use an HP ENVY m6-n113dx Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) amd A10 laptop. just dowloaded the latest windows(10)  update and also some amd radeon updates, and now my touch my touch screen controls the cursor instead of the main page. For example if I want to scroll a website, i need to touch the scroll bar on the right, insted of just swiping up to scroll down. I left my laptop with my kid sister before I updated it so I cant tell if the update was the cause. Also, I cant find pen and touch settings, I've searched every where.

Hello, I've looked up how to get a stylus/pen to work now on the horrendous touch screen software for the newer x360s. I belive this is by installing a new HP FHD Touchscreen Controller Firmware Update firmware from your laptop's specific model. (Although I may be a few steps behind) The problem is that there is no touchscreen firmware update for my 4193nr model.  My questions are: can I use download another 13 inch model's touchscreen firmware to make it work? Or will it be incompatible? But more importantly, CAN HP PLEASE RELEASE A TOUCHSCREEN FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE 4193NR AND ALL OTHER SPECTRE MODELS? Lastly, if you guys have any tips circumventing this and making the stylus to work without the firmware, I would be extremely grateful for any of your help. Thanks

Greetings, After installing Windows 10 pro from scratch into my old Spectre 13x2 (Product number: E9W92UA#ABA, Bios version F.20), I notice that all the touch gestures on the touchpad no longer works as it used to be.   The gestures on the screen still work without any issues.  The device manager doesn't show anything with a yellow exclamation mark.   I search HP for touchpad driver but can't find any.  Is there anything that I can do to restore the touchpad gestures or fix this issue? Thanks in advance for your time and help.

OK I have read other post with the same concerns that I have but dosent seem to have the exact same problem i would say. Im running on windows 8.1 now beause i downgraded from the windows 10 thinking that it may resove my issue. Ive tried numerous things with no luck. The things that I have tried so far is trying to recalibrate the touch screen, dosent respond,Looked up the HID compliment touch screen driver looked for errors and updates for the driver nothing.I also uninstalled the driver and re installed it and that didnt work.I went into the device status of the touch screen hardware and it said that the device was working properly, I opened up the HP utility center looked for updates and downloaded them restarted the computer of course...no luck, from there I went into the windows update and checked there. Some updates were installed but none fixed the problem that I had, from there I went to the windows trouble shooter and no updates or issues were found, from there I rebooted my computer and went into the Diagnostics UEFI V 5.3.2.0,went into componet testing and the touch screen option wasent there as it should be.Now I did all of this while i still had windows 10 so when all of that had failed I tried to do a system restore, that didnt work I downgraded to windows 8.1 and that didnt work and after that I just did a complete reboot of the hardware and had everythinbg erased thinking that would work and of course it didnt.I also forgot to mention after i upgraded to windo... This is just a wild guess, but do you have Magnifier turned on? It's an Ease of Access feature in Windows that will magnify your screen, or parts of your screen depending on the view. To turn off Magnifier in Windows 7, press the Esc + Windows logo keys. If that isn't the problem, please respond with more details: What is your operating system? When did this problem begin, and do you remember making any changes before it started? Please describe in detail how the screen size changes.

First of all I was running Windows 8 everything was fine. Upgraded to Windows 8.1 everything was good at first. Months after doing so my touch screen started acting up. It would only work when I position the screen a certain way. So I stopped messing with it because I thought it was a wiring problem inside the computer. I would fix it later, And then sadly I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed shortly after there was no touch screen options at all. It says there is no Pen and Touch. Today it was listed in the control panel so I started messing with it. Drivers were there all up to date. They said the Device did not migrate. It was 2 or 3 drivers listed for the touch screen and they all said the same thing. After a restart they were no longer in the device manager and no options in the control panel anymore. Please help me figure this out... Thank you.

What's the model name and complete model number of that Toshiba?
(2 sets of characters separated by a dash comprise the complete model number)

If that Toshiba wasn't tested for and doesn't provide driver support for Windows 10, you can expect some of its devices not to work properly or not work at all.
That tends to be more of a problem with laptops than it does with desktops.
