Windows won't allow password change in 2nd user account?

Q: Windows won't allow password change in 2nd user account?

I have a Panasonic FZ1000 camera that is wi-fi capable. However, I'm having the worst time getting the PC and camera to pair, as have many others. One suggested workaround was to disable "Password protected sharing" in the control panel's Advanced Sharing Settings. However, windows won't let me do this because (to the best of my knowledge) I would first have to remove the password from my Guest user account. I have tried numerous times to do this, but unsuccessfully. Here's what's happening: I enter the Guest account using its proper pw. In the control panel, I get to the "remove your password" screen. Here there is a field asking for my current pw. I enter the pw used to gain access to the Guest account and get the message that "Windows cannot change the password." BTW, "Password protected sharing" can't be disabled in the Guest account, either. Help please.

Preferred Solution: Windows won't allow password change in 2nd user account?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I hope someone can help.  I set up Win8 and used my Hotmail account.  I saved the password so that I would log in automatically.  Then, I changed the password to my Hotmail account, on the web, not through Win 8.

So, now, when I turn on the computer, the saved password is not the right one. Not a big deal, but "pesky".  Does anyone know where I can change the saved password?

I have found many articles regarding CHANGING the password.  I do not want to change my Hotmail password, I want to change the one that is STORED in Win 8.

Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to set it up where the only time I have to put in the password is after I've shut down or restarted it instead of putting it in after it's simply been closed? Or will I just have to remove the password all together?

Hello everybody,

I have realized that all the laptops I installed Windows 10 in the last year (several family laptops) are running with Microsoft-Accounts which are Admin-Accounts. Now I read that this is a serious security issue. I would like to change these MS-Admin-Accounts into MS-Limited-User-Accounts?

But how?

And next question: Should I set up for every laptop then a local admin-account?

Thanks a lot for your help.

A:Windows 10: How change account from admin into limited user account?

As long as you have not disabled UAC, User Account Control, or invoked the hidden full administrator, then your users are actually running as standard users and will be prompted before performing any Admin level tasks - you can if you wish create a standard user on each of the systems in addition to the administrator, but this will not provide much better security and is likely to generate complaints from the users as they will have to set-up the accounts again to how they want them.

Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in -  there was no log in available at all.

Just got a new laptop with windows 8, not familiar at all with the OS, but accidentally misspelled the account name. Obviously, this has little impact on functionality, but I would like to change the name so any files I have from my other computer get put in the proper location without having to correct the username typo when switching back and forth. Basically, how can I go about changing the account name on my computer. There are no other users, I just set it up today. Thanks inadvance.

A:How to Change Account/User Name on Windows 8

Hello theIrishBAMF, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you would like to only change the display name of your account, then you could use an option in the tutorial below depending on if it's a local or Microsoft account.
User Account Name - Change in Windows 8
If you wanted to change the name of your user profile folder (C:\User\(user-name), then The best way would be to create a new account with the name you wanted instead, and just delete the old account when finished. If this is a Microsoft account, then you would need to switch it to a local account before creating a new account since you will not be able to have two Microsoft accounts on the computer using the same email address.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have the following steps in mind:
1. Create a new administrator account
2. Copy the profile from old username to new user.
3. Backup the entire registry.
4. Edit the exported .reg file to find and replace old user with new user.
5. Login as the new user.
6. Delete old user
7. Restore the new (edited) .reg

Alright, so my issue is that I set up my Microsoft account on my Win10 laptop back when Win10 first released. At the time it was associated with an older email account that I have since changed to a new gmail account. I was able to go into my Microsoft account settings online and set the new email as an alias, as well as the primary for the account. My desktop (the system I am typing this on) is on this account with the new gmail address attached to the user account (as a Microsoft account). My laptop, however, still shows my old email as the account name. I contacted Microsoft directly and they connected to my laptop through a remote connection to try and fix it, but they were unable to figure out how to change the account name. I have since performed an in-place upgrade to refresh the Win10 install, which prompted for my Microsoft account credentials. I was able to connect successfully, but the account name is still stuck on my old email address. Under User settings in the control panel, there is no option to simply change account name like the local accounts do, and the OS is the home edition, so I have no access to the group policy editor settings. I have seen a few references to registry edits, but I'd rather avoid messing with that because I realize changing the account name might mess up directory addresses (since the 'user' directory is linked to account name). Does anyone here have any suggestions? Sorry for the wall of text, this is kind of a tricky situation to exp... Read more

I was under impression that the user account password security in Windows 7 or Windows 8 has been improved by Microsoft since the old days of Windows XP, and that it is now virtually impossible to bypass it... well, I thought so until I read this, or watched this.

Can someone confirm or deny that it is that easy to bypass someone's Windows user account password? If so, why even setting it up? It just makes life more complicated...

Also a follow-up question. If I use something like disc encryption (TrueCrypt), or Microsoft's own BitLocker, will it be as easy to get into my data too?

A:HELP FIND WINDOWS ACCOUNT CODE TO CHANGE PASSWORD

where do i find that MS account code to satisfy MS, is it in her computer some where?
It's normally sent as a text to whatever cell phone number associated with the account.

Or a non-MS email address, if one was registered when creating the MS account. For example, mine can go to my AOL account if I want it to, say if the cellular service is down or I'm out of network range.

It will be a 4 digit code.

1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint
While you type a wrong password, the password hint will pop up below the password hint box. Based on password hint, you can think of origin password generally.
But the preconsideration is that you have set up password hint for user account password, when you are creating Windows system account and password. Besides, password hint had better can remind you and only you of forgotten password. The most important thing is that it couldn't like password, but has to be related to password.

As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I could think of Windows login password instantly.
2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account
PIN code is a quick, convenient way to sign in to this PC by using a 4-digit code. If you have ever created one, this may be the simplest and most effective method for Windows 8 password reset... Read more

Create a password for your account and lock the desktop when you're not using it. If he doesn't have access to Windows he can't change anything.

If he needs access to the system, create a limited account for him. This type of account won't be able to create new accounts.

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

A:Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Have you gone into the MS account from the local account and changed to the new password?

I assume that your local account is of the Admin group, which should give you access to the MS account settings.

So this is probably the strangest problem I have ever encountered with Windows 7. About two or three months ago, I noticed that my user account had suddenly changed into a guest account. I get prompted for an administrator password when trying to do any tasks that require administrator privilege. It is not a huge hassle, as I know the administrator account password.

Here is where it becomes very strange. When I turn my computer on, it automatically logs me into my user account (the guest account). When I got into the user accounts section of the control panel and try to manage user accounts, it shows exactly zero user accounts on my computer. Also, when I try to change my user account (the guest account) to an administrator account, precisely nothing happens.

It gets evens stranger. When I log out of Windows, the only user account I can pick from, to log back into Windows, is the generic "Administrator" account. My user account is nowhere to be found. When I go to the control panel and try to manage accounts, only the administrator account is listed. There is an option turn on a generic guest account, but nothing related to my original user account is shown. Again, this is in contrast to when I am logged into my user account (the guest account), and see exactly zero user accounts listed on the manage accounts screen.

I feel that I am pretty good at avoiding bad websites, and I do have an antivirus program installed (not that that will prevent my ... Read more

Hi,

I am looking for some help please !

I am struggling with a family computer that i think may have been shut down during an update ?

It is a Intel Pentium 4 2.93 with 512 MB running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3.

Currently when you start up the computer it is going to the logon screen with the logon name filled in as the 'name of the computer' and asking for the password. No user account has ever been setup since the machine was purchased many years ago.

If you just click ok without a password it carries on with its startup until you get to the desktop when it pops up an error message :

Explorer.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

If you click ok you then get left with just the desktop, no icons or start bar etc. You cannot use ctrl-alt-del either.

I have the same problem with safe mode.

I can however get a command prompt if i log on to safe mode with command prompt.

I have tried running the recovery console and logging on as administrator and trying to do a system restore but the box comes up and just hangs.

I am not sure what to do next and any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

Many Thanks,

Hi all.

I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition and I would like to use my current account as a Limited user account.

I realise that I will need at least one administrator account on my PC -- so I go into user accounts, create a new administrator account, then I try to change my current account to a limited account, but it will not let me!

See the screenshots;

I would like Admin to be administrator, and Dell07 to be Limited... I do not have the option to change Dell07 to limited for some strange reason.

I have managed to do this on my parents PC easily. I simply created another Administrator account, then changed their account to a limited one. I don't understand why this will not work on Windows XP MCE...

Any idea why this is happening?!

You should log-on to the administrator account thru safe mode and this will allow you to change the account you want to so it will be a low-admin account. You can not change the account you are logged into t anything other than the account it is because it is the active account.

According to Mr. Microsoft a user account is a collection of information that tells Windows which files and folders you can access, what changes you can make to the computer, and your personal preferences, such as your desktop background or screen saver. User accounts let you share a computer with several people, while having your own files and settings.  I would like users on my LAN to refer to me as CAG not Owner.

Ok, hoping someone can help me.

i was in process of adding my kids to the pc so they can log into the school website for the homework. now, somehow, the account i am actually on (which is mine) changed the user log on as my sons, meaning his name now has all the software and progs etc (not what is meant to happen) rather than creating a new separate account.
So, i have tried to change this but unable to revert this sign on as my account, and to simply create another with mine means i lose my work.

ive googled but all i find is setting up accounts, not exactly what i am after

is there a way i can revert this log on to mine and then create a new account (again) for my son?

TIA

Change it back to a local account first. Then back to your Microsoft account login:

Hello Nick,

Are you able to "Browse" to the folder you want instead? See the yellow tip box under step 8 in the tutorial below to see if it may help.

i just got this laptop and it was used. just want to change the username, but it will not let me. i've gone through the control panel, user name change, and when i do, it says that i cannot have a name with "$#@* etc., which i obviously don't have in the name.
i've tried setting up a different administrator account, and it gives me the same error saying it has an unacceptable character.
any ideas?!?

Try using the administrative account through safe-mode.

I had my friend set up my computer, and when I got it the user account name for admin was MrX, so I changed it however it didn't change the folder name. On some of the games I play, they draw the profile name from my user account and it still comes up as MrX, even though I've changed the name already. How am I able to permanently change everything so that this stops happening?

Thanks

Changed User account name in Control Panel but the User folder in explorer remains the same. No option to Rename at rightclick.

I notice in User Accounts it says the name change is for Welcome screen and Start Menu. Why can't we change the User folder name?

Is there any option besides to delete account and start over? It is the only account and Admin. Will we lose anything other than files in User folders?

A:Can't change User account folder name

I don't believe so. It is a hold over from how Profiles are created. When a user account Profile is created, it sets a specific SID. That SID then stores what it thinks it should have, which, I believe, was also user account folders. I know that I have tried with XP to just pull over someone's profile, even from the domain, but for the computer, it was dead set on the naming convention it stuck for the SID that it would try and recreate it.

Hello,

A few months ago I purchased a Toshiba Satellite Laptop that has Windows 7 installed. I blew through the set up process and I realize that I made a descision that I want to change.

My computer had a default setting for the user of OWNER-TOSH when I look at our network. How can I change that to a different name? I have cruised around the Control Panel and just can't find it.

Thanks for the help!

A:Default User Account Name Change?

The best way is to MAKE and new account and then move all of your files to the new account. You will need to make all of you customization again.

AFTER you have moved everything and have been running the new account for a while (several days), then you can delete the account AND files from within Control panel.

Yes, there is a way to rename the account, BUT, the folder under "Users" will stay the same.
