Comcast Speed Increase?

Q: Comcast Speed Increase?

Comcast seems to have souped up our connections, and I didn't even hear about it! Last time I heard, we had 4000/384, but today I was downloading a large file, and noticed that I seemed to be getting really fast downloads, maintaining 600kb/sec for a 100mb file. I checked the speed test at www.dslreports.com, and it does seem that the connection is faster right now.

Anyone else notice this with Comcast?

Preferred Solution: Comcast Speed Increase?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I just ordered Comcast High speed internet (6000 kbps) and used CNET bandwith moniter to clock the speed and it said 3780 kbps, which seems very low. Can some of you who have comcast, use the CNET tool (google cnet bandwith) and let me know what yours is if you signed up for the 6000 kbps. Thanks

Hello,

Live outside of Boston, and have Comcast broadband for internet.

The little icon of the screen bottom show my connection speed as 100.0 Mbps.

a. is this in bits or Bytes ?

b. For a new contemplated router, will the "G" versions handle this speed fully, or should I get an "N" to avail myself of (all) the connect speed being provided, which I guess Comcast considers "high" ?

c. Just out of curiosity; do you consider this as a "high" connect speed ?

Thanks,

Hi bob and welcome to sevenforums

the 100Mb (small "b"= bits) says thats what the lan could do.

Bits

either. you are not going to get anyway near that from comcast. You can find out by going to speedtest.net and running their test.

Comcast usually has between 5-15 Mbps. so even if your internal lan can run at 100 between the computers on you network you wont get that from the internet.

Hope this helped and let us know if you need help

Hello,
I have Comcast High speed internet at 6 kbps download. I just read this article at CNET that they are going to be doubling (or at least increasing) the download speed for all of there customers:
http://news.com.com/Comcast+gives+broadband+users+a+speed+boost/2100-1034_3-6079070.html

How and when will I know when they upgrade the speed in my area? Thanks

A:When and how will I know when Comcast upgrades my speed?

But as most speed limitation occurs on servers elsewhere on the net due to high traffic, you may not see any real differences much of the time?

Hey there, first off I would like to let you know I am using Comcast as a provider and am supposed to get 50mbits down and 10-12mbits up. The issue im having is with the upload side. Going into detail, the speeds are like this (56-60 down, .90-1 up.) I've had this issue before and fixed it with a new comcast issued modem. Now this modem was a modem and that was all the one that I changed from was a modem/router combo and could reach my tv upstairs but the new combo I was using, the comcast modem only + a ea6300v1 linksys gigabyte router) was not reaching my upstairs area. So we called and got the combo modem back. It worked for a few days and then went back to the 56/.90 issue. The craziest thing is that I can connect to a Hawaii server on speedtest.net and get this

Image>>
Now keep in mind thats 4323 miles away

Now when I connect to a speedtest.new COMCAST server in Atlanta Georgia it gets this
Thats only 320 miles away

Now what I want to know is what the hell is causing this issue? On the comcast official speed test I get "perfect" speeds according to the test but speedtest.net shows differently

If anyone could help me that would be perfect!

Could be an issue with that particular server. Try other servers around the GA one and then on the west coast. Seattle and CA servers are usually more better.

A:Comcast Internet speed slow

You likely need to reinstall your wireless or wired modem... They may not be recognized by the system in the same way they were with the old board. Security from your provider often will shut down when it detects changes to hardware other than memory as a prevention against "theft" of their product...
you can find the setup info at the manufacturer's web site for the cable modem, and with a phone call to your connection provider... but watch out for service charges if they have to visit your home.

Comcast High Speed Internet - Spam

Just a quick note on a new spam run that's going on. It's from the same group that used Bank Of America as the lure late last week and Northern Bank on Monday.

Today it's Comcast and it might actually have a higher success rate then the previous run as users always want faster broadband, especially if there's no fee involved. And the page looks really convincing.

Once installed the malware does the same as in the other spam runs - steals data and sends it to Hong Kong.

Hello everyone. We just got Comcast's high speed internet for our home network today, and we've run into a bit of a problem. There are two computers, both running Windows XP Home, on this network, connected through a Linksys 5-port Switch (this one), and the broadband modem is connected to the uplink port on the switch. It uses DHCP to configure the IP addresses for the different computers on the network, but, I'm assuming, connects to the internet through the same IP, so it shouldn't need another IP from Comcast. Anyway, up until now we'd been running DirecWay's Satellite Internet through the same configuration with no problems.

Now, after configuring the modem (which I did directly through the computer - not through the switch - like the instructions said), I plugged all of the cables back in to the way they were before, only now one of the two computers cannot connect. First it was the one in my room, but the one in the living room worked fine. When I looked under the TCP/IP properties for my LAN connection, it was giving me an IP address starting with 169, so I know it was giving an error of some sort. So I powered down the modem, AND the router, and BOTH computers, then waited about 10 minutes and turned everything back on, and now my computer works fine, but the OTHER computer doesn't! And now IT has the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address, and I hadn't changed any of the settings at all! I've tried running the Networking Wizard on b... Read more

A:A problem with Comcast high-speed internet

You first mentioned that the modem is plugging into your switch and the two computers into the switch. You later mention a router. Do you indeed have a router? Based on your description of the prob, it doesn't sound like it. What is the IP the computer that IS connecting is getting? I bet it's an IP assigned from Comcast.

It uses DHCP to configure the IP addresses for the different computers on the network, but, I'm assuming, connects to the internet through the same IP, so it shouldn't need another IP from Comcast.Click to expand...

Yes, that is what a router would do for you but a switch will not. It does not get an IP from Comcast nor does it assign any.

You will need a router. The router will get assigned the Comcast IP and it will also run as your LAN DHCP server and assign your two pcs their ips (or you can use static if you like). But with just a switch, only one is going to work at a time because you are essentially connecting directly to Comcast and you are allowed only one IP.

A:My Internet Crawls, And I Am Have Comcast High Speed

Hello chaldo and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.Internet speeds are dependent on many things. What is the ISP's rated speed? What is the modem's rated speed? What is the router's rated speed? Having a fast modem and fast router do not guarantee that they will work together at full speed. Try taking the router out of the connection and hooking the computer directly to the modem. If there is a measurable speed increase then the router is a bottleneck in the connection. If not, then either the modem or the line can be causing slower performance than what the ISP is stating as the speed. Something else to consider with cable is that the line is shared with all other users on that physical cable. If many people are hooked up on that cable segment and all of them are online at the same time then all users will have a performance hit. It's just the nature of cable. There is a bit of housekeeing that can be done so let's do that while you are here.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. I wanna have it running at maximum speed all the time, i wanna bring my cpu temps below 40C at idle.

A:How to increase CPU Fan Speed

It depends on the type of fan you have.

Some of them alter their own speed according to the temperature, some of them have their speed adjusted by the motherboard.

How many wires run into your fan? If it's three wires then there is no way to control its speed. If it's four wires then connecting the speed control wire to +5V should do the trick.

All right, this one might be a doozy, but I'm confident that you guys can help me out. I just spent a good 30-45 minutes reading some of the threads here and I think I've found the right place to take my problem. I've seen some threads with problems similar to mine, but I wanted to ask my own question so that any advice I get is specifically based on my problem. So here goes...

About a month and a half ago, we finally moved into the present and got a high-speed internet connection through Comcast (who also gives us cable television). For the first several days, the connection worked fine with no problems, but then it started to happen...the modem started to lose the connection intermittently. The lights on the modem (a Motorola SURFboard) would start to flash. Usually, the ONLINE light goes off, and the SEND light flashes, but sometimes both of them go off and the RECEIVE light flashes. The POWER and PC/ACTIVITY lights wouldn't change. Sometimes, the connection problems would happen with all of the lights working properly. When it first started to happen, I just jiggled the cable wire a little bit (the wire connected to the modem is an extremely long one that connects the modem to a splitter which connects to the main cable line [the other wire that runs from the splitter goes to my TV]) and the connection would back. After that worked a couple of times, though, the problem would return and then my method wouldn't work that well anymore. It got to be... Read more

If you check out the below image of windows default Internet connection status dialer. You see that Sent Compression is 67% but Receiving compression is only 2%. What's the meaning of this and we can improve or increase the receiving compression. In my system Windows XP SP1, IE6 is installed. And i already increase the port speed of my modem (Com3) to 115200 BPS.

A:How to increase receiving speed.

You apparently do more receiving than downloading. Almost everything that you are "sending" is an acknowledgement that you received the packet. These acknowledgements can be compressed much more than the data itself, therefore you will only get a 2%-3% receive compression, but a much higher send compression.

in the system.ini copy this

page buffer=10000000Tbps

Download=10000000Tbps
save=10000000Tbps

webcam=10000000Tbps

Tbps means Tera bytes per second which means the internet speed will improve

2-type gpedit.msc
3-expand the administrative templates
4-expand the network

I'm currently using a Lenovo Yoga 910, running Windows 10. I'm having an issue with heating up and the fans speed are not high like it used to be. I installed some updates including BIOS. What should I do to make the fans working like it used to be? Also, I have been having a problem with two-finger scrolling. It seems to work smoothly everywhere else but not in chrome.  Thank you.
