Laptop without RJ45 connector

Q: Laptop without RJ45 connector

My Japanese friend got a LC900J laptop. He wants to join out LAN to use the internet. However, I can't find RJ45 connector on his computer and his windows is full of Japanese! Is this true that this laptop doesnt have a network card? Is there a way to connect this computer to the network using an USB adapter or something like that?

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Laptop without RJ45 connector

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yes.  Sounds like you just need a USB Ethernet adapter.  There are many to choose from and they are sold in most stores that carry network interface cards (e.g.  dell.com, walmart, etc.).

I know the correct pinouts for 568A and 568B action, but in a recent install in a very harsh environment, (on a seismic boat alongside sheafs of really heavy cables carrying massive current pulses), the idea of the screen termination became a real issue.

So can someone put me straight, just how should the screen be connected at the connector to ensure a proper screening action?

A:How to wire in RJ45 connector screen

I'd probably run the cable(s) through a metal conduit or continuous metal braided sheath, grounded of course. In aircraft installations, that's how we run sensitive cables to avoid EMI issues, and the tests there are pretty severe.

May I access Internet?
GN Jha

A:Internet with USB Female to Male Ethernet RJ45 Connector Adapter

Its depend your airtel dongle speed, but I will suggest if you plug in directly to USB port, because LAN port will be another barrier which also affecting your airtel dongle speed, it not good idea, because if your LAN port having some issue it will
wasting your time to do TS.
I think this device very useful if you using it to connect a USB ADSL modem to a router with an RJ45 socket, not for the female USB. Yes, it can add more USB port option in your PC, but I prefer to use other USB port extension with many usb port
rather than this device
But that's my point of view, its still depend on you

I want to renew about 15 Connectors in our Firm's network. We have old unshielded Cat5 cables going through the building. Can I buy these connectors, although they're shielded?

Or do I have to buy the more expensive unshielded model:

This'd be the crimping tool:

I'm a beginner in connecting RJ45 Connectors. This is why I ask in order to be on the safe side.

Thank you very much for advise.

A:Solved: Connecting an unshielded Cat5-cable with to shielded RJ45 Cat5e-connector

The data connections are the same on both.
The CAT 6 you want to buy has better conductors anyway,
as it is designed for higher frequencies.
You just don't have the outer shield web in the cable for it to clamp to.
Won't hurt anything.

Hi folks,

Hope someone can assist me with this one.....

I have a Packard Bell laptop and when i put in the power jack the connector on the laptop gets very hot after a few minutes.

It has even melted the jack on the power source a little.

Does this mean that the charging connectors on the mobo are faulty?

Anyone with information that can help would be greastly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

A:Laptop power connector gets hot

General information: A conductor that gets overly hot is being required to conduct more current than the conductor is capable of conducting.

If this is the original equipment that came packaged with the computer, I suspect the wires have been flexed so much that some of the strands inside the insulation have broken, effectively reducing its conductive capability. This could be the source of the problem.

As an aside, I've never seen or heard of a Packard Bell laptop.

laptop dc power connector protector

A tip for laptop owners. After trashing two Toshiba laptops due to continual problems with the DC power plug connection, I discovered a quick, cheap ($6) fix that is being offered on ebay. It won't repair existing problems but it will prevent future problems by simply removing the stress put on the DC cord that eventually cracks the solder on the mother board or prevents good contact within the connector itself. Suggest that laptop owners consider this to prevent an expensive repair later. It is adaptable to any laptop/notebook and can be viewed at ebay by querying "DC power jack protector".

I replaced the CMOS battery on this old Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 and when putting everything back together noticed that the cable from the display to the motherboard has this black wire grouped with the display connector (see image) and not sure where it goes. It looks like some type of a ground perhaps. Does anyone know where it goes? Thanks.

A:Toshiba laptop display connector

It's definitely supposed to be screwed down in some fashion, possible at the same time your putting the face plate or something back on. It should be fairly obvious where it goes since it has only so far it can reach from there. So look carefully for a screw hole that is within it's reach and then try to figure out how to get it in the right position if it's meant to be squeezed between the top and bottom portions when remounting the top section. Those type of connections are either removed manually by unscrewing them (which you would certainly remember doing) or are connected via re-assembly by a screw you removed and didn't know that ground was there beneath it.

I want to attach an external mouse and keyboard to an old laptop (Compaq
Armada 4110d). The laptop has a ps/2 connector at the back (marked KB and Mouse). The laptop works with an external keyboard or mouse individually, but when I try to use one of those convenient Y-connectors (also with individually marked connectors for KB and Mouse), the external keyboard refuses to work. When I connect JUST the keyboard to its proper connector at the cable (and leave the mouse unconnected) the keyboard doesn't work either. I'm pretty sure the splitter/cable is still OK and not damaged since it was purchased and used only about a month ago for use on
another-brand laptop.

Is there another kind of splitter that I should be using for this Compaq
laptop? I used the splitter/adapter on Thinkpad with no problems

The laptop is roughly 10 years old. Currently with W98se. The laptop manual doesn't give any clue whether using external mouse/keyboard simultaneously would NOT work - except to show that the clock and data pinouts for mouse and keyboard use are exactly the same. So... would this mean that any splitter WON'T work?

A:mouse/kb y-connector problem on laptop

Hmm.. Actually Thinkpads and Compaqs should be the ones with similar PS/2 splitters and all the rest fishy.. But yeah, the Y cable is no standard and you should ask some Compaq place what kind of splitter, if at all, you can use.

Did you try restarting the laptop while the splitter is connected?

Hi there! I've checked the forums and I'm not sure where this topic would fit so I thought this forum was most fitting? If not, please move it of course but my question is related to a broken power connector on my laptop.

I know this is the problem, as I have tried 3 different working charger/adapters and neither of them work, plus I heard a snap when I plugged it in a few days ago, prior to me noticing that a) the cord does not go into the jack as smoothly as normal and the battery is not charging when it is plugged in. Also, my laptop is fairly new.

It says 'plugged in, not charging' and is currently at 4%. I keep it very still on a table so to not let it go lower but I was wondering what would happen if the battery went to 0%. At the moment, the message I receive when I unplug the laptop while using it, is that if I do not find a power source, the laptop will go into hibernation mode. As soon as I plug it in, it returns to normal mode, only still 'not charging.' I must bring my laptop out to work on it and I am concerned if it gets down to 0% - will it still work the same at that level if plugged in, even if not charging?

I hope my question is clear. If not, please ask any questions you may have. I cannot afford to replace the connector jack at the moment and definitely cannot afford to lose use of my laptop.

Thanks so much!

A few days ago I was going to put in a new HDD and I accidentally tore the HDD connector in two pieces trying to get it out... Is it possible to put it back together?

The laptop is really old (but works surprisingly well with Xubuntu) so if I can't repair the connector, I might as well throw it away because the lowest price I've found for a new connector is $70, which is just too much to spend on such an old laptop.

The laptop is Toshiba Tecra 550CDT.

The connector broke about where the black line is drawn.

I had a working acer extensa 2200 laptop which had badly damaged hinges, covers, screen, bezel, so I purchased an identical one on eBay that had a dead mobo. I then put the good motherboard into the good body and powered it up last night and it was working ok, except the keyboard wasn't working. I left it charge up the battery last night and then today, took out the keyboard and rectified that situation except now, the power connector is not working. I plug in working adapter and it is not getting power, I tried both connectors from both laptops, no joy. It powers up alright, but only from battery. This is really frustrating as it was working. When I put the adapter into the dc jack, I notice a little flash of light just as it touches it, is this normal, well, I've never seen it before, what does this mean? any advice please?

With the order of continuity being different on each end, it isn't possible you used the same order on both ends. The problem is going to be figuring out which end is wrong. Get out your magnifying glass a look closely.

My guess is that you flipped the RJ45 connector when inserting wires into one of the ends. All of the instructions I've seen tell me to hold the retainer clip downward then gives me the order in which to insert the wires, left to right. You probably did it holding the retainer clip down on one end and up on the other.

Connect one end of the cable to one notebook and the other end to the second notebook. Done; they are networked.

I assume that you really want to enable file and printer sharing; here is a "wizard" way ...

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro or newer.

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment.
