Setting Up Multiple HostNames To VM's

Q: Setting Up Multiple HostNames To VM's

I have a computer with LAN IP OF XXX.XXX.5.190 and I am hosting 3 VM's with IP's of XXX.XXX.5.192, XXX.XXX.5.194, XXX.XXX.5.196
In my router config port forwarding I have set ports 21, 80, and 81 forwarded to XXX.XXX.5.192 and I setup hostname of HugeDomains.com - YourSiteGoesHere.com is for sale (Your Site Goes Here) so that RDC to this site will direct you to the desktop of XXX.XXX.5.192
Now question at hand is, can I set-up a seperate hostname to direct to one of the other VM's that is set-up on the host LAN IP? For example, set-up www.forwardtoVM2.com direct to XXX.XXX.5.196?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi i'm having a strange issue with one of my users.

We run a logon script to map network drives to a users machine during logon using the following schemea \\hostname\share$

However for this one particular user onehostname cannot be resolved.
All shares on another hostname are mapped successfully.
And when mapping via IP ALL shares are mapped successfully.

I'm successesfully able to Ping the hostname and I've tried flushing the DNS cache and restarting the machine but the problem persists.

No other users or machines are reporting the issue.

If you can offer any help or advice I'd be greatful

This issue has happened every now and then on the wifi only for some weird reason and in the past couple of months and now it's starting to happen on my wired network. I cannot go to any websites such as google.com unless I use their IP directly. This means some things like Skype and TOR (only method I have of posting this at the moment) still work. I've tried everything from static to DHCP LAN IPs, router/ISP/opendns/google's DNS servers, and nothing seems to fix the issue. This affects all wireless and now wired devices including android, windows, and lubuntu. Chrome gives the error message "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG". What on Earth is wrong here? Is it the router? Modem? Is it my ISPs fault? Does anyone have any clue?

A:Cannot access any hostnames, only IPs

Not a Chrome fan.. Drop to DOS and type in nslookup and see what the output is. Here's an example:

C:\Documents and Settings\MikeyB>nslookup
Default Server: google-public-dns-b.google.com

In the above you can see from my computer here, I have google's dns resolver manually configured in my ipv4 properties. You have said that you have tried putting in a static DNS address and it did'nt work. I'd check inside your router for the info that your ISP might have xmitted to you.

Also, flush out your DNS cache

ipconfig /flushdns

My current setup is this.

PC A = Domain controller. 2 nics (bridged) and adsl connected via usb.
PC B = 1 nic
PC C = 1 nic

PC A has a ip of
PC B has a ip of - DHCP
PC C has a ip of - DHCP

PC A is the domain controller and also serves as a DNS and DHCP server running win2k3. PC B and C are running winxp.

I have a few problems which ive just noticed.

Firstly, PC C always joins the domain with the first charchter of the hostname being capitalised...why?

Secondly, all machies can ping each other, but if i ping PC A from PC B, and then try pinging PC B form PC A it suddenyl stops communicating (cannot find the host - times out).

Thirdly, if i ping PC C from PC B it pings fine, but does not display the FQDN only the netbios name.

I have tried to re-register the DNS server as well as checking firewall rules etc. One thing i have realised is that i have not entered the domain name as the primary DNS suffix on the client pc's. I am currently at work and will do this when i have the chance. But apart from this what else could be the problem?

Thankyou for your help,

Developing Drupal 6 sites locally using XAMPP 1.7.1.

I discovered localhost ( is accessible either by typing: "http://localhost" or "http://kat.ph" (?).

Where "http://kat.ph" comes from?

I opened my "hosts" file on Windows and it is not listed there. I checked "httpd-vhosts.conf" out (\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf), but it is not there either.

I had this problem before restoring completely my system through recovery discs.

After restoring completely my Windows operating system, the issue is still there.

I have made a computer scan using the Windows Malware Removal Tool, Eset Nod32 AV 5 (installed on my machine) and even Eset Nod32 online scanner. Result: no threats found.

It seems like two default hostnames have been assigned to

How can I get rid of "http://kat.ph" pointing to

I want only "http://localhost" to be mapped to

A:2 hostnames assigned to by default

I found out what happened (unbelievable).

This is the proof Western democracies are slowly
falling into China-like dictatorships while people
keep on sleeping.

I connected another PC to the Internet and...
guess what? The same problem arose.

To cut a long story, my ISP (Telecom Italia) has
blocked some sites, they are not accessible at all.

If you connect to those sites while a local server
is NOT running, you are presented with a "Page not found"

But, if a local server like Apache is running on your machine
and you try to connect to a given censored site, you are
redirected to (localhost).

I have had the confirm of this by trying to connect to
a different censored site (kickasstorrents.com) while Apache
was running. Same behaviour as kat.ph (that is, I am redirected
to (localhost).

No virus, no bug, nothing like that. It's simple, old-fashioned,
tyrannical, iilegal, China-style CENSORSHIP.

I'm using a wirless labtop but I'm having an issue where I cannot ping any hostname on the network.

ping IP of a computer on NW and it works.
When I ping local hostname or local IP I get a, 'request timed out'

From another machine on the network:
When I ping the labtop's hostname I get, "Ping Request could not find host..."
When I ping the labtop's IP address I get, "Request timed out."

I also did an IPCONFIG /ALL and pinged the default gateway IP, DNS and DHCP servers and all worked.

Is there any way to configure something here so that the wirless labtop can communicate with the rest of the network?

A:Cannot ping local or remote hostnames

this is called Ping By Name, the other form is Ping By IPaddress.

You should always be able to is Ping By IPaddress and if not, then there's a problem
with the TCP settings.

Ping By Name requires some service to translate Name=>Address.
At home, the simplest means is to add the names into the host file.
The file is located at
You may need to login as an admin id AND to reset the read-only attribute to
be able to save the file.

Use Notepad to do the edit.

The content should be
name (sp) addressthere must be at least one (sp) SPACE between the name and the address
eg: linux7srvr

ALL THAT SAID, you may have further issues on the network configuration.
The address of each system normally changes everytime you start the system due
to the DHCP service in your router. It is preferable to use DHCP rather than static
addresses, especially when you will seldomly need Ping By Name.

Hopefully, you don't need to debug your network every day, so I would recommend
AGAINST all of the above and use Ping By IPaddress when necessary.

I am using an eMachines W3502. My internet comes through Suddenlink, and the cable modem is connected and working properly. It has been reset, both by myself and by Suddenlink. The NIC is also working correctly, as far as can be seen. I have an IP address, and the adapter correctly gets the DNS servers automatically. However, for reasons unknown, the computer will NOT resolve DNS addresses. If I ping a remote IP, I get an answer just fine, but if I ping google.com, the name cannot be resolved. I have confirmed with Suddenlink that their DNS servers are working fine, and I can confirm that. (I'm using a second PC to troubleshoot the first one, and to do so, I'm connecting through that same cable modem, and using the same DNS servers.) I have tried manually entering Google's free DNS servers, and (which I confirmed that I can ping), and this did not resolve the issue. I've flushed the DNS (no help) and even installed a second NIC. The second NIC detected perfectly, and behaved exactly like the first. It can get an IP, it can ping outside, but it cannot resolve host names. I've exhausted Suddenlink's tech support - they have confirmed that their hardware is working, and they won't support the issue beyond that.

I will post the results of a sysinfo as a reply to this message. For further assistance, I'll also post the results of a ipconfig /all.

Thanks ahead of time!

Hey Guys,

I got what I assume is a real simple problem for you folks but then again this is my first try in the world of networking/webdev/servers.

The Backstory
So I have a Linux server in my house (runs Fedora 14) that I was using as a FTP server for my friends and I to upload files to when we needed to share stuff. It used to be linked to my dyndns account which pointed my old hostname lucout.homelinux.com to my FTP server for FTP connections.

The Problem
Now that dyndns is no longer offering free accounts I've taken the next step and purchased my own domain (lucout.com) from namecheap.com and want to point my FTP server to that domain.

What I Have Done So Far
I got my namecheap account set up to have A type host records that point to my comcast-given IP address 50.152.XXX.XXX for the @ and www. hostnames. I also have URL forwarding turned on with those settings.

I have ddclient (finally) running on my linux server with the following ddclient.conf file:

daemon=300 # check every 300 seconds
syslog=yes # log update msgs to syslog
#mail=root # mail all msgs to root
mail-failure=root # mail failed update msgs to root
pid=/var/run/ddclient/ddclient.pid # record PID in file.
ssl=yes # use ssl-support. Works with
# ssl-library

## To obtain an IP address from Web status page (using the proxy if defined)

Why go through all this if you could just keep running with DynDNS for the pay for service plan? I was also affected by this and they gave me a coupon code to save an additional 20 or 25% (can't remember) off their service packages. I ended up just paying $60ish for 5 years of service.

I have forgotten the url of a site I've used a lot. It hasn't been real long since I used it, so the site should still be active. I have looked through stored passwords, bookmarks, and histories for many browsers, and can't find it. I've searched online by what kind of site it is - a site to help memorize lists, like names of all the elements, or countries of the world, or words in a foreign language, and haven't had any luck with that approach.

What I want to do now is use a program to search the entire hard drive for domain names and make a list- searching every file would probably do, or every file but able to pick folders to include and exclude might save a lot of time. The domain name is almost certain to end in .com, if not, then .net, so being able to pick which domain names would be useful too.

For this purpose I don't need to see the file except for the domain names. Ideally each domain name (hostname, perhaps, something like "stackexchange.com") listed once, in alphabet order, or maybe sorted by the date the file it was in was last accessed or modified or created.

Something like

but much much larger.

I am unfortunately not in a position to spend money on the software.

We have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.

I have recently run a HDMI cable from my PC to my TV, but im finding i have to set the output screen every time i wish to watch on TV.

What im currently doing is each time i have to right click on desktop then select Screen Resolution.
Its already set to multiple monitors but the TV has black screen.
I then select Extend these displays
This enables the TV to show the picture but then the PC monitor goes off and the TV is bad ratio.
I then have to press 'revert' this makes both Monitor and TV resolution watchable.

I was hoping for a way to always have both screens on so i dont have to go through this method each time.

I have attached pics to show

A:Setting up multiple screen outputs

You don't need to keep TV on all the time.
Extend the desktop to TV display and set resolution. Then disable that display.
Now, press WIN+P this should open a menu, you can select display configuration easy with this. Ideally projector should be the TV display but mine are reversed. So experiment with settings.

You should see the mess with 3 monitors and a TV on top

I use Windows 7 and Firefox. I have long been using both WMP and Winamp. My audio and video files would automatically play in WMP, while internet streams would open in Winamp. I also use Audacity. I could use two or all simultaneously, lowering any to give my attention to another as I work with them. This is the way I need it to be for what I do with audio.
Since I had my computer serviced at a shop, including scans and updates, numerous settings and functions have changed or been disabled. The shop attempted to correct a problem with playing streams, but it has caused all my audio files to be played in Winamp as well. How can I get the files (only the files) to play in WMP again? The shop didn't have the answer.
This is an update to my question.
After I posted the question, I got an email appearing to be from Bleeping Computer telling me that an answer had been posted here. There was obviously no answer posted here, but this comment was in the email:

I will consider whether I really need to do this or not, but for better or for worse, right now I have it this way. I have a D-Link DIR-655 Router (mainrouter). It has ports as follows:
a) WAN - Cable Modem
b) #1 - NAS
c) #2 - main1
d) #3 - main2
e) #4 - Linksys switch
f) Wireless - Linksys Print Server
The switch is wired as follows:
a) #1 - mainrouter
b) #2 - clientrouter
c) #3 - guestrouter
clientrouter is a Linksys router. clientrouter is wired as follows:
a) WAN - Linksys switch
b) #1 - d-des
c) Wireless - dw-des
d) Wireless - bw-des
e) Wireless - at-des
f) Wireless - bt-des
g) Wireless - aph-des
h) Wireless - awii-des
guestrouter is a Netgear router. guestrouter is wired as follows:
a) WAN - Linksys switch
b) #1 - Cord for guest computer
c) Wireless - Any guests on the network
I chose to have multiple subnets to logically divide up the network into groups depending on the reason for the client.
However, I do not think I have used the right technology to accomplish this, because it's not very reliable. The netgear router needs to be manually unplugged and plugged back in often, but this is normal for it's model. The Linksys router is humming just fine along. When I in the past, tried a Linksys router (the same model as the clientrouter), as the mainrouter, it was unstable all the time. I had to return it (there was no damage or anything, it was just inherently unstable).
This model, the D-Link, is similar, but until now was seeming to be liv... Read more

so i have been trying and trying and trying, googling all sorts of various permutations on this problem. And nothing seems to work.

to explain better:

when i use either windows personalization (display) or Nvidia control panel neither sees the TV,
if i set anything related to multiple displays in either right after i click apply the setting auto revert to previous settings,
the only time i have been able to get the TV to show anything from the PC is when it was the only monitor connected (via S-Video) and it only displayed up to the point just before windows actually loads and starts(basically until the loading bar disappears) Edit: this is the only time the PC seems to have recognized the TV
i am running Vista,
my TV has both S-Video and the red green blue connections(although i have never used them for lack of red green blue cables)
i have also tried to use an RCA Switch box(don't know what else to call it. Will explain if needed)
i know the TV can do this as i have done it with both this same computer and with a laptop

A:Problem setting up multiple displays

I don't believe you can use S-Video to setup a second display. I haven't used that type of output in ages, but I believe you can only output (ie: clone) the main desktop.

S-Video is low resolution. Depending on the video chipset and TV, 640x480 or maybe 800x600. Thus the reason why you loose the image as Windows loads. The BIOS and Windows loading screen are VGA (640x480), as Windows loads, the video drivers and desktop settings are loaded (which are likely higher than supported by S-Video).

Set the desktop resolution to 640x480, shutdown Windows and power off the PC. Connect the TV to the S-Video output, power on the TV, and then boot into Windows. You should have an image on the monitor and TV.

I'm running XP with two users. I'd like to have most of the programs, but not all of the folders available, both on this PC, the laptop, and on my home network. ( I realize that programs can only run on the PC they are loaded on ).

For example, when my wife signs on using her User name, I'd like for her to get Outlook with all of the files and folders, same as my settings. Right now, she gets Outlook, but not the same folder setup.

I'd also like to share all of my folders on the network, but only on my User name, not hers, and vice versa.

Is this possible, or is it too complicated for XP?

windows xp has annoyed me thusfar only because i constantly set 'my documents' folder to icon view but any time i enter it it's back on tile view, this isn't a massive problem but any help is appreciated.

the big annoyance i have is that i'm an avid Half-Life 2 and Counter Strike source map developer and this means i regularly spend time trawling through folders for texture files, routines ad configs and each time i access a folder it is in icon view whereas i can only fully browse the media i'm interested in if it is in list or deatiled view.

thus can anyone give me tips on either how to set multiple folders within a mother folder to the same view setting or how to stop folders reverting back to 'tile' view after i have set it to another view.

basiacally any time i change a read/write issue etc i am given the option to apply this setting to all subfolders, but i wonder if there is a way to apply <folder view> settings to all sub folders.

I don't know if there is a way to do what you want (maybe a utility on the web somewhere?), but these two things may help, especially the second one.

In any folder window, Tools - Folder options... - View tab.

At the top is the ability to apply view settings to ALL folders (not just sub folders).

About 6 lines from the bottom is an option to Remember each folder's view settings.

Hi Guys - an online friend is currently running a TV from his PC with an HDMI cable, and has asked me this question.

i’m wondering if i can set up a spare monitor into my current setup. my main monitor is plugged into the cpu and i have a hdmi wire running from the cpu to the tv. i don’t have a spare hdmi plug on the cpu.
i’m able to use both screens independently.

is it possible to setup the third screen to also work independently – e.g. so i can watch a movie from my computer on the tv, read websites off my usual monitor, and have the third monitor for something like a chat program ?

i figure i need an hdmi splitter – is this true ?

I have replied that I think it's not as simple as that, and that I THINK he needs a graphics card that will to support this. So, my question is as basic as: what hardware would he need to be able to do what he wants. Just in general terms - not specifics, at this stage.

A:What's needed for setting up multiple monitors ...

From how you've described it, you have 2 outputs and 3 screens, you need a graphics card that can support 3 outputs to use 3 screens, it's a fact, a splitter will only clone the display, not display a new desktop.

Hope this helps.

Greetings. Frequent reader, first time poster. I've browsed the forum on and off for some time trying to locate the answer to my troubles, however with most of the threads locked (and not wanting to bump old posts) I figured my best option was to post a new thread in hopes of gathering some more information.

I work in a medium sized business with 50~ employees. We recently decided to allow wireless access for employees, newer computers with internal wifi, and customers. Now, I'm savvy enough to know how to setup a wireless router without using the instructional CD and just accessing it directly via the IP, that's all fine and dandy. However, the range of one singular wireless router hardly covers 20% of the building. And I ran into another issue I'm hoping two have some help in. So here's my two situations:

1: The main network hubs are located in a maintenance room far off in the corner, so setting up a wireless device there was not beneficial. I attempted to set one up via an ethernet port in the middle of the building. This worked without issues, and connected fine, however- The wireless router now has it's own separate set of IPs instead of "being one with the main router/hub." Our default IPs are 192.168.15.***, while this wireless router has created a separate set of IPs with 192.168.1.***. This wouldn't be much of an issue were it not for the fact our server needs to be connected via RDP through some wireless devices. So we... Read more

A:Setting Up Multiple Wireless Points as One Entity

1. Any wireless router can be used as an ethernet switch and WAP as follows.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Lea... Read more

Hello all --

I have worked as a designer on PC and MAC for 20 years, but have never had to do the following task, and have not found good source info through Google searches:

I will have a "Master" laptop in one main room in which I will collect presentations for speakers who will be presenting these PPT/Video files in other meeting rooms
The Master computer will be setup with folders on the desktop that are named to reflect the remote meeting room names.
Each Presentation room will have 2 laptops (Main and backup) ... the presenter in that room needs to be able to access the files that reside on the Master computer
How do I set up the Network parameters of all the computers?
How do I create folders to share files across the network?

I hope this is clear -- I have watched this done before, but have never had to set it up start-to-finish myself.

Thanks for any help you can lend to me!

A:Setting up a Windows 7 Network between multiple computers

Welcome to Seven Forums,

What is the Operating System of the Master PC where you will be storing files and act as a file server? Are the other PCs mixed of Windows O/Ses?

Are you trying to setup and network both wired and wireless computers and other devices (if available)?

Hi, I am redirecting here what was part of another post as it is more appropriate under a different title: I'm a teacher and I want my students to all be able to access their work from home and school seamlessly and easily. The "work" consists of text docs, powerpoints, video, etc. In general the files won't be huge. It was suggested to me that the best way to do this is with Dropbox, and I've started learning about it and setting it up, but I need to know a couple things (which I asked Dropbox tech support, btw, and they haven't responded):

1) I'm going to set up 33 individual folders, one for each student, so that their work is protected. and other kids can't get access it. Each folder should be "Bob," "Mario," etc. How do I do this? I assume I'll create 33 folders on my home computer for DB, which is easy to do, but then how do I set them so that each child has his/her own permissions/access?

2) I assume that any shared resources I will provide: videos, documents, etc, I just put under "Public" in a sub-folder called, say, "Resources," which anyone can access?

Thanks for any advice!

I am trying to configure my network to allow remote desktop access through a router (from outside the router). What steps should I be taking? So far, one computer works, the other doesn't. Windows 7 Pro on both.

A:Need to know what steps to check for setting up multiple rdp ports

Since you've got one RDP connection working, I assume you know how to forward ports through your router and how to connect to your LAN remotely.

Leave the existing, working, RDP connection to computer A alone.

For computer B, set it to listen on a non-standard RDP port (for example, 3388) and forward that port through your router to computer B.

How to change the listening port for Remote Desktop

To connect to computer B remotely, connect to the same address as you would use for computer A, but tell the remote desktop client to use the RDP port you have chosen for computer B.

How to configure the Remote Desktop client to connect to a specific port when you use Windows XP

You could also set up a VPN that would allow you to connect to your entire LAN remotely, and therefore RDP into any LAN computer by name, but this is more involved.

I switched to Windows 7 recently and tried to set up multiple accounts when I ran into a problem.
I need to set up 200 user accounts on machine (dont ask me why lol) but once I reach close to 100 it locks me out. By lock me out I mean I cannot create any more new accounts, I cannot enter the UAC panel, I cannot manage any of the existing accounts including my own adminitrator account - in other words I cannot do anything under the 'user account' tab on the control panel. if I create one of the other accounts as an administrator it shows me the same results - actually it wont even go into the user accounts tab no matter how hard I click on it...
I tried this on both my machines - one running Family the other professional 64bit. Same result - one got to 96 accounts the otehr to 98 accounts.
Is there a limit to the number of user accounts you can run on Windows 7? I rememebr on Windows XP there was no limit (although the welcome screen slowed down to a crawl when i tried to set up more than 50 user accounts). Is there a way around this limitation if there is one? If there is a limitation is it with regards to these versions alone and perhaps the Business/Enterprise edition does not have this problem?
Any information would be appreciated.

A:Setting Up Multiple User Accounts - Problem

if you have to create 200 accounts..i suggest you to make server..
and you can arrange it easy. you just install window server 2003 R2. and use active directories to manage your clients account.

Hoping someone can help me please.

I have 4 monitors, 2 graphics cards, running Windows 7 Professional.

I have just had to swap out one HDMI screen (which gave me sound) for an older VGA. No sound anywhere (not surprising). One of my other screens luckily has HDMI, so I have just changed its connection to HDMI/HDMI (was HDMI/DVI whilst i had the other HDMI screen), and rather expected to get sound. but no. yes, i have used the icon bottom right of the specific screen. and i have tried the remote control (its a TV). nothing.

I haven't a clue what to do next! I should say this HDMI is on the other card to where the previous was.

Any info gratefully received.

When I set up the 2nd account. It seems to be ok.
Then I go to another computer and send a message to the
2nd account. I never get the message in the Window 7 puter.
The account is a valid account with my ISP. It does not show
as not accepted by the 2nd computer.

I am sure I have done something wrong....

A:setting up multiple accounts in Window Live Mail

If the first account is working fine, when I see new accounts not working. I.e. not sending and or not receiving I go through the account set up carefully. Depending whether it is not sending or receiving some setting for incoming or outgoing is not right.

My wife seems to have problems with her computer despite all my best efforts using Norton, Super Anti-Spyware, Malware Bytes, and Open DNS. I am building new computers for all of us using two Asus M597A LE R 2.0 and one non LE, as well as a newer DDR4 board with I7 processor...(board and processor specifics to be determined.)

What I want to do is put in an SSD for the OS and a SATA III HD for data. In addition, after all programs are installed, I will clone a drive, leave it in the system, but disconnect the power for my wife's PC. This way, if she has a problem, she can get back fairly quickly. I am going to use Audit Mode for the install to move the user folder.

For my wife's PC, in addition, I want to install an EXTRA Windows 8 drive.

So, my wife will have four drives.

The point of the extra OS is that when she watches movies form a foreign country, which is where she seems to get the problems, she can boot up into the extra system HDD which will NOT have the user folder moved. Since the only data there will be her favorites/book mark. I am hoping that I can do this so that she can boot up from UEFI...that is select the drive in which the second OS is installed...in this way, I hope to prevent the rest of the system from becoming infected.

My first question, will she be able to boot up into the extra system without a problem if secure boot is not disabled?

My second question, if anyone knows, will this cause a problem with system backup utilizing Acronis TI 2... Read more

Dell Latitude D810 DVD viewing on Sony LCD TV via S-VHS cable
Laptop display no longer works once Windows XP Professional is loaded

I hooked my Dell Latitude D810 to the monitor to my Sony TV via S-VHS cable.

I watched a DVD from the laptop drive on my laptop monitor and the TV monitor full screen (they were not split screen images).

It worked great until I decided to try and “fine tune” the image dimensions on the TV.

I am not sure in what order the events unfolded, but the TV monitor suddenly showed only the wallpaper image on screen, but the laptop still had desktop items and task bar on with the wallpaper image.

In the DISPLAY field in SETTINGS, I was scrolling between 1. (Multiple Monitors) on ATI…
2. (Multiple Monitors) on ATI…

I may have messed up with the settings in the ADVANCED tab too.

My laptop display no longer works once I am in Windows XP Professional.

F8 and F12 allowed me to run diagnostics (all passed) and a safe mode start that also loses the display once XP Pro is loaded.

Once XP Pro is loaded, I can hear the laptop accepting my password entry with its cute little “beep”

It sounds like a pop-up block shortly thereafter – not sure that is relevan... Read more

A:Help Needed - Multiple Monitor Setting Killed my Display

Welcome to TSG....

Go into safe mode and try to remove the display adapter in device manager and then exit out and reboot and see if it re-installs the display adapter driver. This might reset the settings for the screens. Also if you get the screens in safe mode try to reset the procedure back to what it was or to a default setting in the same place you made the settings change the first time.

I want to make a wallpaper slideshow with multiple pictures. However, many of the pictures I am using have different dimensions, and I want to set different picture positions for each one (e.g. one picture set to stretch and another set to fit).

However, every time I try to do this the position changes for every file in my folder. So is there any way to set them all individually?

A:Help setting wallpaper picture position for multiple pictures

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Stretch is the only preloaded way to do all images easily but often makes a mess of it,
Ideally the images would be the same size as your screens resolution and you can simply use fit,

I recently had to go back and post a lot of data for a prior year.

Entering 5-6-3 gave me a date of May 6, 2003. There were hundreds of entries to be made and I wondered how to set the spreadsheet to assume that the year was 2003 for all of them (so I didn't have to input the "-3" each time)? But, of course, any time I allowed the spreadsheet to assume the year, it assumed the current year.

Is there a way to change that assumption- so that entering 5-6 would give me the day of May 6, 2003 without constantly inputting the -3 (or/3)?

We have a Win7 PC with a console monitor and 4 additional monitors spread throughout the building. Our previous system had software from one of our vendors that essentially gave us a matrix on the console monitor as to what was being displayed on the other
monitors, similar to what you'd see with multiple security camera feeds being displayed on one screen. The problem is that we can no longer find the installation media, our vendor discontinued the software and won't provide us with the version we used to have,
and I cannot find any commercially available software package. Does anyone know of a system we could purchase that would help us setup content on multiple displays from the one console screen we can see? Thank you.

I am currently running 7 64bit. I have 2 displays and when I opened up Firefox for the first time, it opened in screen1. I moved it to screen 2 and eventually it started opening in screen 2. My question is, how do I set something like that as a default. Take word for example. If I want to tell it to open in screen 2 all the time, what would I do?

A:Multiple Displays - Setting Defaults on which display a window is opened in

To set the Default display in 7, right click on the desktop, then screen resolution, then click on the display in the window that you want as default, and check the box for "make this my main display".

On my desktop computer my setup with Cox Cable guarantees me download speeds in the range of 11,000-15,000 kb/sec. However, while my desktop is being re-set up, I am on the laptop, and even though Cox assures me I should be getting the max speed (we tested it online), I can only download two sources at once and those are at speeds of around 25-80 kb/sec.

How do I change the setting to download more sources at once, and b) is it most likely individual servers that are the villains here, and not my laptop? Thanks.

I have a Sony laptop with Windows 7, and recently purchased a new LCD monitor. I know it is supposed to be easy to use both monitors, but so far I have been unsuccessful. It seems like I can only duplicate, and not really extend the monitors, so I see the same on both screens. Also, when I try to close the lid on my laptop, the external monitor goes to sleep. I am obviously doing something wrong, but cannot figure out what it is. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Not sure what type of Sony you have but try changing the view by holding down Fn (down next to you windows button) and press F7 then press enter to keep the view.

Let me set up the scenario:
We have multiple printers, lets call them Printer1, Printer2, Printer3 and Printer4. All of these have to be deployed to our devices and Printer1 needs to be set as default.
GPP seems like it should do the trick, so I configure the above four printers, ensuring that Printer1 is set as default in the settings.
Upon logging in by a test user, i see that all four printers have correctly mapped, but a random one is set as default seemingly ignoring the tick box directing otherwise.
I know that if I run a gpupdate, the printers will sort themselves out and Printer1 will be the default. I also know that logging off and back on will have the same effect. But as these users will not necessarily be logging into the same device
each time, I would prefer a scenario whereby the right printer is mapped at first logon.
So my questions are as follows:

Is there a configuration of GPP Printers that would allow this to happen at first logon? Can i get gpupdate to run silently via a scheduled task? Can No.2 be done simply without need for additional script files/software installs?

I'm putting a website together for my cousin and we're going to transfer their domain name. We're planning on doing the hosting on Lunarpages. The domain name should transfer just fine, but one concern we have is whether or not their current e-mail address (which shares the same name) will also begin directing e-mail towards the new host. So will their current e-mail address transfer easily too?

If it is the same domain name, after the transfer, setup the email

should work as soon as the transfer is complete and the
