I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm just making sure I was right here.

Someone's got a laptop with what I think is a close-to-shot battery. It was sitting 5 years just on the charger never used (and off). It runs perfectly fine off the charger, and the charger will charge my Thinkpad battery (same voltage and whatnot).

The battery in that laptop always shows up in Windows as either 2-4% charged or 100% charged. When it's 100 percent charged, I'll unplug the charger and it'll last around 2-3 minutes and start beeping and saying the battery level is critical. It'll then go down to 2-4% and I'll plug it back in again and it acts fine.

I can't imagine what else it could be other than battery, so I'm just making sure I was probably right. I sent them off to buy one for 60something dollars online, the cheapest I could find it for.

It's a Systemax model laptop, P4 2 GHz, but I don't remember what else in case anyone was wondering.

A:Solved: Lappy battery

It does indeed sound like the battery.

The battery voltage indicates to Windows that its OK (100%) but due to age and internal resistance, when it is asked to actually deliver the power it collapses quickly.

1 thing i like about vista is the aero, but i dont like vista much and considering of downgrading to xp, i dont have windows vista on a disk, its on my laptop restore disk with some crap acer also installs. i really want to go back to xp and yes i have the disk for that, but is there anyway i get windows aero on my xp if i do downgrade?

A:[SOLVED] downgrading my lappy vista to xp, any way i can keep windows aero?

Aero is capped with Vista and you can not have on XP...
Make sure you download XP drivers before you downgrade to XP...
Manufacturers does not provide XP drivers for certain models...
Check on Acer Web Site if there are XP drivers...
If there are not, google it...
For my model there are not XP drivers on Acers Web Site...
So I had to find them somewhere else =)

I keep getting a pop up message that says: "speed up browsing by disabling add-ons"...but I'm confused as to which "add on's" I should disable, for there's three that show up when I click on the the disable add on's thingy...lol, which says to click on it to disable add on's, yet I havent disabled anything yet...because I dont want to accidently mess up anything by doing so...so I'm hoping someone here can help me, here all the add on that are there now, and the seconds they have on them: real networks download, and record(20 seconds)...adobe pdf link helper(3 seconds)...office document cache handler(2 seconds)...I know what looks obvious...yes...get rid of the add on that has the most seconds...but still...I wanna make sure to talk with experts before I make any move, especially if it could possibly mess up my laptop. So if u please, please help me here. Thanks.

Hello,
I reccently downloaded a realtek high def audio driver but after i booted i recieved a blue screen after windows xp screen.
0x0000007f (0x00000000 x4)
I am not sure if the problem is hardware or software. Also, i was wondering if their is a bios command to check my RAM.

A:[SOLVED] Pleas help - Blue screen

The error message is due to hardware deffective it might be with memory, motherboard or CPU processor overheating due to overclocking. But to confirm where the problem.

First uninstall the audio driver and download the upgrade version of it. (If you had installed the upgraded audio driver than suggest you to use the "Roll back" options to use the pervious driver installed.)

2. Go to BIOS settings and run a memory diagnostic tool to find out is there any problem with your memory RAM.

3. Check the tempertaure of the CPU from BIOS Settings or download Hardware Monitor http://www.cpuid.com/download/hwmoni...onitor_116.zip
(HWMonitor is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : 1. voltages, 2. temperatures, 3. fans speed. )
Save the log file and post it.

Hi, have you been able to print before and this just started to happen? Have you changed anything or downloaded any new programs recently?

What exactly is the full error message you receive?

Go to start search and type, cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt type:-

Code:
reg query "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler" /s > 0 & notepad 0
(press enter)

next type:-

Code:
systeminfo > 1 & notepad 1
(press enter)

Please post both notepad outcomes here.

Its a neighbor of mine I help them take care of their computer all the time.

The problem is the screen freezing randomly, it might be in 3 min might be 5 or 10 or 25, it does it after it has been turned off for awhile or all night or when you have been on it for awhile or quite awhile. Point being its not heating up cause it does it when it has been off for hours them 3 or 4 min after it is turned on or sometime it might be 2 hours after you turn it on. I had a thread a couple of weeks ago about this same computer I came to the conclusion that it was the Powersupply, so I put in a brand new 400W powersupply and it ran great (no freeze ups for a few days then all of a sudden it started in again).

The mouse freezes so they can't do anything but shut it down at the tower so I gave them another usb mouse tonight and told them when it freezes to unplug there mouse and put the new usb mouse in and see it it works right away then it would be the mouse. I have great doubts about it being that but I am at witts end. I consider myself pretty good at fixing computers hardware and software problems but I am lost. I have no idea. I looked in the divice manager everything is ok, checked the events and nothing happening there. I know the computer is clean of viruses or spyware cause I keep it clean for them monthly.

A:Solved: Windows XP SP2- Screen freezing-no pattern- but lots- Can someone help? Pleas

The first thing that comes to mind with older machines is overheating. They can accumulate a lot of dust (even in the cleanest places) and fans can get bogged down. Check all your air intakes and remove dust from the interior. Make sure that all fans are moving (including the one on the graphics card, if present).

While inside, check all your connectiuons and make sure the graphics card is firmly in its slot.

If that doesn't help, try a memory test:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

Im not really sure what happened, usually there's a series of events or changes made that I can retrace through google to fix any issues. With this I literally stopped playing a game I've played for forever, went to bed, and woke up with my laptop crippled. When I try to do anything or run programs everything slows down extremely bad and all the physical memory goes into use and I've noticed the PC usage going up as well now. If I can manage to start a game and get into a game then the game will run fine for the most part, but everything literally everything else is in slow motion.

A:Save my lappy please

Make a few passes with this: MemTest86 - Offical Site of the x86 Memory Testing Tool and let's see the result.

I have a somewhat aged (but working once more!) laptop. It suffered a HD crash (deaded clicky noise of doomed data ) a while back, but after replacing it, it works fine. However, now the battery doesn't seem to hold a charge... It looks like it has juice in it however - as the battery will light up when you push the power indicator button on the side of it (the battery that is.) I was just wondering if anyone knew of any manner of battery recalibration tool for the HP Pavillion ze1000 series laptop or equivillent... Thanks in advance! QWERT.

I don't think there is anything to fix. The appr. 350MBs are probably used by your on-board graphics and depending on what it is processing it uses a bit more or less.

Depends entirely on what you are going to use the laptop for. If general office use, go for the GS - if you are going to use it for gaming, spend the money on the better card.

Any ideas why?
Compaq Presario C700, vista

A:Lappy's keyboard

Does capslock and numlock work still as far as actually typing on the keyboard, as in the function of it works but just not the lights? If so then you may have a short with the actual lights installed, not the lights itself but the wiring. If this doesn't work when you type then you have a keyboard malfunction and possibly need to reinstall a new keypad, and not all that difficult to do if cautious.

I have recently recieved an older laptop as a gift, to be more specific, a dell inspiron 7000. I was told when i recieved the computer that it took a long time to start up. i got it home, turned it on, and it loaded normally. but after about five minutes, the computer froze, and i removed the battery. the fan did come on as it was supposed to, so it was not an overheating issue. i opened the case, tighened all the screws and reseated all the cables. i tried agan, it started, but it only lasted until the windows logo screen came on then froze again. i went into the case again, removed everything from the case, and removed all the dust. i put it all back together, it started and ran for about half an hour. in that time i had started and restarted it many times, all without any issues. shortly after formatting the hard drive (i have a copy of winXP i wanted to put on instead of win98) it shut itself down. ever since, whenever i attemp to start the computer, it does not POST. it will power on, run for 6-14 seconds, then shut itself down. it will repeat this process endlessly untill the power source is removed. i have narrowd down the problem down to either the motherboard or the internal power supply of the computer. if anyone has any ideas on what else it may be or where i can get parts for this particular laptop, please feel free to post, email me at [email protected], or send me a yahoo message at lazarine_wyvren.

Hi Guys

Im looking for some help with my notebook. The last week or so ive felt it was starting to run a little hotter than usual but im struggling to work out what the true temperatures are.
Ive installed SIW and Speccy and both report my 2 cores are running between 80-85 celcius and my HD at 49 celcius which i would have thought was a little hot.(whilst running light programs) However my intel desktop gadget reports cores 10 degrees lower than this which seem a little more normal for a notebook. The TjMax for the cores according to intels website is 90 celcius which is programed into the gadget so my question is which temperatures are correct. The gadget which takes into account the max temp of the cores or speccy and siw. Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to help cool her that would be appreciated. Ive done the usual cleaning of the fan and blowing through with some compressed air but temps seem to stay constant
Thankyou

Does your Laptop bios show the temps? Have a look at those if it does.

Always put you Laptop on a flat surface, avoid: Your Lap, quilts, cushions etc. I some times put mine on a plastic kitchen tray upside down when I use it!!

Ok, 1st post and thank you VERY much in advance for anyone willing to try helping.

My Laptop (Dell Vostro 1500 ; Intel Core 2 Duo, 2MB RAM, WINDOWS XP, nvidia geforce) has been slowly attacked by viruses and trojans. Not exactly sure when it started, but it has increased in severity.

I first noticed it when the Windows Firewall was disabled and I couldn't turn it on. As my router has a built-in firewall (so i thought) i wasn't too terribly concerned.

Also, windows updater wasn't working properly. Neither was Avast!, windows defender, or malbytes. hmmm...

Next, my browser started throwing random pages at me. Since I use mozilla with NOSCRIPT and ADBLOCK this was really wierd. The pages would open, but noscript blocked everything on it, so no biggie there (or so i thought).

Next issue that happened was that when I closed my laptop it stayed on, monitor, HD, everything when I closed the screen. At first I thought it was the battery (since it was always dead when I turned it on), but then I noticed the monitor on when closed.

Finally, I figured a system restore may fix the issue with the firewall and screen, so I went back to June. After this, I did a quick test and found that the monitor and HD was going into Hibernation when I shut it closed, but the firewall still wouldn't go. I closed the screen and went to the supermarket.

When I came back, HO BOY! The screen was on when I lifted it and the sucker was HOT! A malicious fake antivirus program called ... Read more

All of them show up your Nvidia graphics drivers as potential culprit. Update them since they're from back in January.

However I'm not positive this is the actual problem. Your best bet is to run Driver Verifier and let it crash once or more afterwards and send us the crashdumps. Do not select the following checks when setting it up: Force Pending I/O Requests, IRP Logging, and Low Resource Sim. Restart it after you're done. Follow all other instructions given by the article.

Btw, you may have very well succeeded in providing the oddest crashdump I've ever seen. A minidump that's 916 MBs in size. Amazing.

Recieved a laptop that was initially getting browser re-directs. I managed to get rid of some of the re-directs and used it once or twice and then the Internet Explorer will now not connect at all and wireless is giving me a supposed "limited connection" to my network. Have scanned several times with various tools and found some minor trojans initially which were removed or quarantined but still experiencing problems and nothing at all is being shown as the problem.

Posted below is my dds.txt log and the .zip'd attach file.

I know its seems odd me posting something for help. However it seems like I have reached a stand still in terms of fixing the issue again and again. A brief background on the issue:

I bought the HP notebook in the month of November and after a week or so I started getting random BSOD. I tried to fix the issue myself looking at the dmp files, however now it is becoming more of a problem and there is no sequence which I can recall which triggers the BSOD. As per the initial diagnosis I reinstalled the wifi card drivers from the HP website as there was an update for that. Since that did not fix the problem I performed a clean install of windows using the media from HP (apparently it took 6 hours to finish! ). Post the reinstall the frequency reduced and I still updated the wireless card drivers and the video card drivers. And now the frequency is less but still annoys a lot.

Most recent one was today when I was working on the PC.
Now when I look at it, I usually have chrome & or video play back apps running when this happens.

Driver is qualcomm atherios and version is 8.0.1.340 Let me know if you need further info. In a nutshell, BT is no more working in my lappy. Please help.

Ok So...takes webpages ages to load (using FF but same on all browsers) and when using IM replies are delayed...

Ping statistics generally 1 packet lost each time, with average time ranging from 34ms to 65ms

Using Wireless from BT Voyager router, mum's connected to this too using USB (haven't had time to swop to ethernet) Anyway, her connections quite slow too (I blame this on her PC ha, the HJ team are helping with this) and she uses the BT Yahoo browser.

Gah!

I've tried doing the old "Unplug for 3" but doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Getting pretty fed up with it, feel like throwing the lappy across the room!

BTW it's an built in wireless connection....

Solutions?

So it seemed that my 2 gb chip had gone bad on my laptop. It said I had 3gb installed but only 767 mb were shown available. So I removed the 2 gb chip and ordered a new one. After getting it, managed to do a stupid and install a 2gb ram chip into my laptop while it was sleeping, not off. My computer is still running as slow as it was with only the 1gb chip installed, and the system specs still say the same thing.

I ruined my ram did I?

A:Installed ram while my lappy was sleeping

If you remove the 1GB stick and install the 2GB in its place, does the laptop boot and recognize just the 2GB stick?

Edit: I assume you have turned the computer off then back on already?

Also, where are you seeing this 767MB available? What does the system info say, what does the BIOS report for the amount of RAM?

Please post the full specs of the system including the Windows version.
