Random Program/Window Freezes - Formatted/Flashed/Memtested..- freezes still persists

Q: Random Program/Window Freezes - Formatted/Flashed/Memtested..- freezes still persists

So one of my friends is running Vista 64-bit with her DXdiag attached.

I also have attached her Windows 7 (today, a more recent Dxdiag).

Her computer was fine about two months ago and shes had it for 13 months. Then these "freezes/lockups" started randomly throughout the day. She'll be gaming or just browsing the internet with a few AIM/MSN windows opened, random programs will lock up and freeze while others stay perfectly functional. Windows seldom freezes along with the programs, but it does happen occasionally where she can't use task manager and the windows button is forced to freeze for about 2-10minutes. She hasn't had freezes above 13ish minutes because she manually shuts down her computer about that time.

Sometimes when she freezes, she gets past bios and while windows was loading it sent her to a black screen that didn't load anything. She had to keep restarting a couple of times and waiting 10ish minutes and eventually her windows loaded up. She says this doesn't usually happen either.

She wiped about a month ago and it didn't really do anything. At all. She did a clean format/reinstall of windows and these freezes still happen with the same occurrence rate/severity/duration.

I also have the event viewer logs of her system, and programs. They were taken right after the freezes. Not sure if these help, they seem like a bunch of crap to me, but just incase? I can't tell anything for certain from it but it does say there are some errors.

Now, I made sure the drivers to her computer are 100% updated, windows vista is updated, and these freezes still occur.

Heres what we tried. I can't figure it out at all.

Searching for the bios for led me to find this.
Flash succeeded, problems till persist.

Ran memtest86 for 12 hours, no errors.

Reformatted to retail stock with CDs in Vista 64-bit.

Ran without video drivers.

Ran in safe mode.

Dual booted into Windows 7, windows 7 updated fully, fresh/newest drivers installed for all motherboard components and video card.

All of these failed, freezes still happen to random programs. If anyone can figure this out, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

These sound like hardware issues. Please run these free, bootable diagnostics:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

Post back with the results and we'll move on from there.
It won't hurt to run MemTest again - but I wouldn't put a priority on it.

Title pretty much says it. While trying to fix a different problem I've been having with my computer, I flashed my BIOS. I had never done so, so it went from version A00 to A07.
Now, my computer freezes randomly. They are spaced about 5-10 minutes apart, and control/alt/delete doesn't do a thing.

Any ideas? I used the Dell websites utility to flash it, and it went smoothly.

A:Flashed BIOS, now comp freezes

What was the problem and did the bios update claim to fix it?
If you did the most recent bios do another and go back 1. Whatever you do no beat bios, please.

A few weeks ago I began to get a popup window at start up: Program Files/Common with two helper.sig files inside. I read up on how to get rid of those (dl'd/ran Brute Force and DeepDive) and I no longer have that issue. In the last week or more though, my IE has been freezing regularly. I have done the usual maintenence, cleared the cache, cookies, defragged, disk cleanup, also disabled script debugging as I had read elsewhere.
Earlier this week my wife said she saw a warning popup from our Avast AV program. unfortunately, she isn't sure what she did to the message, I didnt see it and it has not happened again. I ran a scan and nothing has come up.
Below is my HijackThis log, from the little I know it seems as if O18 should be 'fixed' but I dont want to jump the gun. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm getting frustrated to the teeth trying to fix this problem with my laptop. It's a relatively new laptop as well (only a year old). Basically every app i open, every little things i do, would end up being unresponsive for up to a minute, then it would work for a few seconds and freeze again. I cant surf the web, play games, or even go to the start menu without everything freezing on me. Heck, typing a 3 letter word would take an eternity.

I've done a ton of research and did everything i can think of to fix this issue. I've refreshed my windows not once, or twice, but THREE times and this problem persists. After the refresh everything would go smoothly for a day then everything gets progressively unreponsive. I've also booted in safe mode and ran both malwarebytes and superantispyware. The scans ended with a few threats and ive quarantined and deleted every malware. Next thing i did was doing the sfc /scannow in command prompt. It detected some corrupted files and successfuly fixed it yet the problem still persists. My last hope was upgrading to windows 8.1 but alas, but even that didnt do the job. Everything is not responding and its driving me nuts.

Please, someone out there, give me guidance. Thank you.

P.S. I'm typing this under safe mode with networking (everything seems to be completely smooth and responsive in safe mode)

I think it has to do with hardware. Can you please post your PC's specs? Could be old hardware or low GHz.

Hi
Let start with testing the hardware
Since we don't know the cause of it and events you have posted don't tell much

1) Run memtest on your machine download it from the link in my signature
burn it on CD and boot your machine with it
Make sure to only have one stick of RAM in your system when you are running then test and run it for 8-11 passes
Then turn off the PC and replace that RAM stick which was just tested with the other one run the same process again

Download HWmonitor and post the temps under full load and idle

Also I personally do not like Driver updating software from 3rd parties
so If i were you to download the drivers from Asrock's website for your motherboard model as well as for your video card from Nvidia's website
Use Driver sweeper to uninstall the current drivers
Reboot
install the just downloaded drivers

Also do as this thread says and post the files

I have random freezes sometimes they are glitchy and rarely BSOD all on bootup or up to about half hour in (which also turns of the mouse). Also youtube doesn't autoplay playlists and all sugestions next to the video are black. This started a few weeks to a month ago, first it seemed just a minor annoyance but it started to become more often the last few days. I've tried some checks but without success.
Also I remember the week before those crashes that twice the screen driver crashed for a second or 2 and then a message popped up about how a monitor driver crash was adjusted, always when I played a certain game that is still in beta so I taught it was the game.

I posted the same problem a few weeks ago in another forum, without success so I try it here. I dont have a restore point from before that and nothing special in the installed drivers list.

Computer sticks during boot on cold start. First, hard drive won't get past HP start screen. Then it gets farther with each repeat after pressing button to shut off. Hard Drive light goes off. Three different drives have been cloned into the system. Two were original WD 320 Gb, one a data drive; other was 4 year old Seagate 160Gb SATA.

Power supply has been replaced.

Today the BIOS screen showed on first and second attempts. Then it said it was collecting array. Replaced battery on motherboard.

Occasional freezes during running after finally getting to run state. Cannot get out of freezes without power button. No software escape works as suggested on HP's Vista troubleshooting.

Occasionally it would reboot on freezes. Now it freezes without reboot. The cold start problem has become more obvious the last few days with all the testing and restarts for Windows Updates and drive switches.

Go into Device Manager. Right click on the Teredo devices (that are having problems) and select "Uninstall". If needed, the devices will reinstall on your next reboot (but, in most cases, then don't come back).

You only have SP1 installed. Please do the following:
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates

Vista freezes with "pink screen," unless in safe mode. Problem persists after factory image recovery.

Windows Vista freezes with a "pink screen" and horizontal dashed lines. Sometimes after freezing, I'll get the BSOD and my PC will restart. The freezes used to happen about 3-5 minutes right after I logged in to my user account, but nothing happened up to about 5 hours yesterday.

Today, I wasn't even able to get past the login screen without freezing, so I went into safe mode, where I spent 2+ hours transferring the files I wanted onto a hard drive. My PC didn't freeze once. After I moved my files, I went and reformatted my windows partition of my hard disk drive with the HP factory image recovery.

But as soon as I finished that, before I could even set up my first account, my computer freezes (with the pink again). I tried going into safe mode, but it won't let me do that unless I have an account set up.

Help please! Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone. I'm very sorry for just being a new member and allready posting.
I felt like i needed to post this straight away as i've seen the technichal support given by the community
and as much i can be honest, this is the top website i found with the most fixes.
to anyone that will be interested in helping me, I appreciate it deeply - thank you very much.

Recently i left my computer to update a game ( world of warcraft ) overnight.
When i woke up I was confused why it was back to the login screen. ( im guessing it must have reseted )
So i logged in, couple of minutes later the wallpaper changed into something 'Warning your computer has been infected everything you do is logged'
so bla bla. So i ran a couple of AVG scans manage to find the thing it was something called b.exe ( been deleted ). now my wallpaper problem is fixed.
HOWEVER sometimes when i turn on the pc it's just a plain black screen with a curser in the middle a couple of clicks it will freeze ( it works after a couple of hard reboots).
Everytime i search something on google ( using firefox ) and click on the link it brings up a new tab with 'jump' title.
the computer also randomly freezes at some point.

This is my log.

Hi folks,

Thought I may need to start a new thread, I noticed other threads have similar issues to what I'm seeing and didn't want to confuse by re-posting in the same thread.

I have Windows 7 Enterprise and just started having many random windows blue screens. I think it started as soon as I tried to run a trainer for a game Company of Heroes, since McAfee said it was a trojan and I tried to restore it after seeing online by other folks that the file was legit.

Anyway, since then I think, i started to see many BSoDs, not always the same BSoD message and they would occur during normal windows usage, a few times in Safe mode with networking. But most of the time, usually within 5 to 30min of running normally.

Anyways, I ran the McAfee virusscan and it found a few viruses, also ran spybot and malware bytes, and Stinger. I ran them from safe mode and was able to clean out the affected files.

I still see fewer BSoDs, but mainly now my google chrome browser won't work. I've tried uninstall/reinstall and every time I load it, it never works. sometimes freezes and I have to do a hard power off/on on my laptop. I have a lenovo w510.

Other problems is that my windows randomly freezes. Also, so far I can use Internet Explorer and Firefox, not able to install Opera. But when using Firefox or IE, i sometimes get random redirects.

I have ran hijackthis and can provide the log file. I can also provide the windows minidump files.

Please help! I greatly appreciate... Read more

You don't say how old your computer is but assuming it's not brand new, note that DVD/CD players can fail. First you might clean the lens, or try a different DVD/CD.

Does it boot up to the HDD, or is that having problems too?

Bought this HP computer last year as Windows 8 and subsequently updated it to 8.1. In both versions, the computer freezes multiple times per day while playing Facebook farm games. Ram: 10 gig, 9.8 useable, Processor: AMD FX 6200 six core processor 3.8 GHz, 64 bit OS x64bit processor. When it freezes, must "X" out of FB and start over from desk top page. Sometimes it also freezes in Pogo games as well but not anywhere near as much as FB. I've checked for and updated Windows and checked for driver updates as well. None of the drivers required updates and the system says they are operating normally. The only other symptom is a window pops up sometimes saying that the computer lost Internet connection even though my other computer is still on the Internet (Windows 7). Also, the login screen, where you choose the user, does not freeze after a few minutes. The pc only freezes after choosing the user. However, I've discovered that being in safe mode doesn't trigger the freeze. Any way to solve this?

I didn't had this problem before I installed my graphics card driver. and everything seems to be good.

And I just re-installed OS for this PC had others problems.
Like I had a Dual Boot system but when I try to login in XP it gives me errors when I get it. like " Didn't found my documents " 4 kind of errors. and was going way to slow. same problem with vista before format windows bar goes white and PC freezes and windows Explorer dont work and icons keep going. wansnt in mode to fix it so I had to format and install OS again.

I recently incured a problem downloading files through internet explorer 7 and 6, the problem is that when i start my download it reachs 99% done then the whole thing freezes, sometimes it will say verifying download but will not go any further. The only way to close that window is to do it through task manager, which also shuts down any other window using internet explorer. By doing this some downloads are still valid but others are not, i have restored to IE6 but have the same problem.....
has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix this ?

I've been having some problems with my operator system freezing when a new window is opened.

I've been experiencing this problem for a while but with Win. 98 and as the system was over 6 years old, I decided to have an all round upgrade of the machine and software.

I am one of these types of people who doesn't understand computers so have had some help upgrading the system from a relative who does.

I have had a new motherboard, memory, processor (bought as a pre made bundle) and hard drive installed and have installed Win XP, and used my old cd rom, cd burner, and graphics card from my old system.

The first problem we encountered was it wasn't allowing us to partition the hard drive as we had done with the old 98, so my relative installed 98 to partition the hard drive, then installed XP from there.

XP is all up and running now but after it has opened 1 or 2 windows it freezes, and completely locks out.

has anyone any ideas as to why it is doing this? or where we may have gone wrong on the install.

any help or advice greatly appreciated as I'm starting to loose faith in our abilities to do this.

A:XP Freezes when a new window is opened.

If 98 was installed and then XP installed on to it as an upgrade, that could be the cause of your problem. When you add an operating system to an existing one (ie an upgrade) that can introduce all kinds of problems. You will have much better stability if you install xp on to an empty partition with no files or other operating system on it. Plus you must ensure that any devices (graphics card, printer, sound etc.) are all using drivers which are xp compatible. XP has a very wide range of device drivers which install automatically during setup if it detects a device which matches it's database. Such devices will work straight away after setup has finished, but for any devices which need external drivers just make sure they are xp compatible --- you can ignore any warnings Windows might give you about a driver not having passed quality testing -- just click 'install anyway'. But I'm convinced the way to go is to repeat xp setup using an empty partition.

Hello everyone!
I have started getting browser redirects to XXX sites and others.
This problem persists on all browsers - IE, Firefox and Chrome. Dolphin browser on my android also has similar redirects now - so could have been a problem that originated through a wireless router hack/virus.
Any suggestions are welcome. Already ran Malwarebytes and could not solve the issue.

I have tried searching online for different solutions but I have yet to encounter a problem that is very similar to mine.

Basically when I boot up and log in to my account everything is swift and fine. I open my first program (normally Chrome) and then surf the web. Then once I try and open a different program or a new window with Chrome then it suddenly just freezes. It will be fine after about 10 seconds then everything starts to become choppy until windows explorer suddenly crashes and I am left with no choice but to force shut down my laptop. I then go through the same process again. As long as I stick to one window and one program then everything is smooth, until of course I try to open a new window or program then my whole system eventually crashes.

I have been using Windows 7 for about two months now and this is the first time I have encountered a problem with it. Please help me if you can as my assignments are due in this week and I need to be able to multi-task with my laptop.

Thanks in advance!!

If you need a quick fix. Just use System Restore and go back to a point in time, prior to the problem. Once working make a system image and put it away. Any future problems, you can use system image to go back to that point in time.

I am using IE-11 with Windows 7, 64 bit
After I open Explorer from the start menu, I go to the Tools, gear icon, in the upper left corner, select safety>In Private Browsing, and it opens that window. I close the original window and continue on. I can close and open the Explorer from the start menu several times, and all works well ? I see that option presented, which I select, and it goes on.
However, then I act as someone paying attention and use CCleaner to get rid of all my extraneous files that may be left behind from my browsing. I then go to the start menu to open Explorer, and the In Private option is no longer available. I am guessing that it got trashed by the cleaner, but in my experimenting, I have not been able to find which file needs to stay around for me to have the ?In Private Browsing? option available from the start menu. Can you help?

Is it possible to have the ?In Private Browsing? option used when opening the Explorer from a shortcut icon on the desktop?

Frequently, when I have a window open, whether it be in windows explorer or
going to different websites using Firefox or IE, the window freezes. I
cannot click a link to a different website or to a different section in
explorer. I found the only solution to fix this is to click on the task bar
at the bottom first, then i can click on a link. Sometimes this also does
not work; that's when i do ctl-alt-del. I dont have to delete anything from
there; just open that up. Then, again, I can click on links. I also can not
select things from drop down menus with my mouse; only using down arrow. I
updated to SP3 and did all available updates thinking something maybe that
would fix it, but it did not. Now, i just reinstalled windows. This also
did not fix it. I am stumped. I did a scan on my hard drive but found no
errors. Could it be a motherboard problem? Any help would be appreciated!

Greetings everyone.

I'm having a dog of a time with IE 6 on a Win2000 machine. It seems that any time a new window should pop open, IE just hangs for a minute or two and never opens the window. This happens whenever I click on a link which opens a new window or when I right-click and select "Open In New Window".

I have tried SpyBot, Adaware, and the MS AntiSpyware. They found a lot of junk which I removed, but the problem just doesn't want to go away.

I have included a HijackThis log, as I can see from searches that it is useful in finding the culprit. However, I can't make heads or tails of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, I've experienced this issue about five times in the span of two weeks.

When my wireless connection isn't found, sometimes Windows is unresponsive when clicking on the wireless icon near my system clock. It shows either the empty bars with a yellow indicator or the empty bars with a red x. When I try to click and bring up the list of available networks, nothing happens. Even right-clicking doesn't do anything.

Explorer has given an error and needed to shut down three of the five times this error has happened.

Any idea what could be causing this to happen?

Thanks!

hi and welcome

there are several things.
first if y ou are NOT using homegroup, you can disable IPv6. it is located in network and sharing.

Second next time it happens type cmd in search>type Ipconfig /flushdns, then ipconfig /renew. let us know if that helps

third
type device manager in search> go to the wifi tab. look for your wifi card, is it listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown devices" with yellow on them?

Let us know the results

So, I tried to "reinstall-repair" my PC from window XP service pack 2 CD. It freezes at "37 minutes left." I restarted it about 2 times (may be I shouldn't have! :( ) after waiting for about 40 mins the first 2 times. This is the third time and I am thinking to wait longer.
There were some suggestions that I should delete .int file but when I go to shift +F10, I could not find .int file.
Should I reformat it or what other thing could I do?
