Some sites do not work on computer, but work on Nintendo DS

Q: Some sites do not work on computer, but work on Nintendo DS

Hello! I am having a problem with some websites at my house. There are certain websites I cannot access on any of the computers we have at home, but I can access them on my Nintendo DS. A few of the sites are:

Occasionally questionablecontent.net can be accessed from a computer at home, but most of the time it cannot. None of the other websites ever work on a computer at home.

So originally I thought it was some virus that happened to be picked up on all 3 desktop computers and the laptop, and I have run multiple virus scans with AVG over the last several months to no avail. Some things were found, and removed, but the problem was not solved. I have turned off the Windows Firewall to see if I could access any of the sites at home, and that did not work either. One day at school I tried accessing the above websites on my laptop, and they worked without a problem. I also went a friend's house for a LAN 2 weeks ago, and I could access the websites on my desktop computer. It made me thing that maybe it was something with the Netgear router we are using at home. The fact that I can access the sites on my DS though makes me think that is not the problem. Just in case, I went to the router settings to see if somehow any of those sites got set to be blocked, but there is nothing on the blocked sites list for the router.

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be since they work on the DS at home, but not the computer, and the computers can access them when they are connected to the internet somewhere besides at home. When this problem first started happening, I was on 32 bit Windows XP and have since upgraded to 64 bit Windows 7, and I am still having the problem.

Any insight I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Some sites do not work on computer, but work on Nintendo DS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One thing you can try that has worked for me and others with similar problem is changing your DNS server. You can always revert back if this does not resolve the problem or leave it. How to change to OpenDNS: Using OpenDNS On Your Windows Vista PC

Alright so at the store I work at we have a computer that we use for the register. Up until like last week or two weeks ago we were able to use the internet explorer to go online but all of a sudden one night we were on and then we came in the next day and every address you typed in brought you to Google. And when I typed in the Yahoo Mail address it brought me to Gmail. My boss said he didn't put any sort of blocker on...he had one of my coworkers calling Comcast to see if it was a problem with the internet. We've run virus software there was nothing. Any advice on how to get it to let us get to other websites?

A:Work computer will only go to Google sites...Help!

Nothing installed on the computer could redirect one web page to a completely different one. If you type mail.yahoo.com into the Address bar in the browser, and you're redirected to mail.gmail.com, I'd have to see it to believe it.

I keep having the same issues so I think my computer has a virus ir trojan or something. It's going really, really slow and it used to be fairly fast. Everytime I go online it's using way more memory than before even if I have up only one page with no images or video. Before: 200mb, now: 1gb. Sometimes I'll be watching something on hulu and the full screen will turn off as if I'm doing something in the background but I'm not. When I do a search and click on a link, if I click the back button it won't go back to the search results. It just keeps reloading the same page. My internet email has been hacked and my husband's email (which I check for him) has been hacked.

I have run a defrag, run scans with AVG antivirus and Rootkit scanner, Malwarebytes scanner, superantispyware scanner. All they find are cookies. So I figure I have something pretty deeply embedded. After the defrag, there was an extra 10+gbs of space freed up on my computer. the next day I turn it on, and that space is gone again.

I don't know for sure if I have a virus but I think I do. What do I do next to get this taken care of?

Thanks for any and all help,

I am running Windows Vista Home 32bit. Browser I use most is IE9. Today the browser shut down because of Data Execution Prevention (DEP). It shuts down quite a bit but I dont recall if this has been the reason or not.

I'm not sure what is going on with this computer.  It's running slowly and doing things that are not normal for it.  For example, the software I use for work is giving me login errors, I am gettting an error with Outlook saying my mailbox has been temporarily moved.  Internet Explorer is running slowly.  Chrome has crashed several times.  My computer restarted itself.  Etc, etc.
I ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything, so I figured someone with a lot more knowledge than me should probably look it over before I go too far.  One thing that may be of note: its a 143GB hard drive with 19.5GB of free space.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give !!!   : )
PS I have tried to upload the addition.txt file, but I cannot tell if it uploaded ?  I tried twice, so if its uploaded twice, I'm sorry !

I use my laptop primarily wirelessly, and recently i scanned my computer with spybot, as i do regularly, and it found virtumonde. I have never had another spyware, but i went ahead and had spybot fix the entries.

Immediately after I did this, my wireless connection has been acting very strangely. It connects fine, and many websites seem to work fine. Some sites, perhaps one-third of sites I try, will not load, or may load after clicking the link multiple times. This is occurring in both FF3 and IE7.

My wired adapter works without a problem as before, so I'm not completely left helpless, but I am now tied down to my desk for all intensive purposes and my laptop loses all the functionality for which i purchased it.

I have tried many things including checking the hosts files, running a utility to fix winsocks, and obviously have tried the basics such as flushing all internet caches, resetting all routers, even reconfiguring them and uninstalling and then reinstalling the wireless driver. Nothing has worked. Finally, I even used the "sfc /scannow" command to repair any corrupted windows system files.

I am at wits end. My computer is configured exactly the way I want it, and I have never encountered a problem such as this. I would like to try and avoid having to reformat the computer because the amount of software I would have to reinstall and reconfigure makes that my absolute desperation last resort.

Please give me any suggestions and any information which mi... Read more

I have problems getting flash to work on most, but not all, web sites. Simple stuff displayed but complex stuff didn't. I get a screen telling me to download Flash player. I was using IE 6, and I could not get it to work on the BBC magazine web site and on CNET. I went to the Macromedia web site and followed their instructions to reload my browser. So, first I used the Flash removal tool one last time and rebooted. I then downloaded and installed IE 7 (version 7.0.5700.6). I went to the Macromedia web site and installed the latest version of the Flash player. The rotating sign tells me that it has been installed. I have version 9, 0, 16, 0. But I still have the same problem. On some sites, flash works, but on the BBC Magazine web site and CNET, I get the message that I have to install the latest version of Flash. So I went back to the Macromedia web site for more ?help.?

I re-downloaded the "uninstall_flash_player" uninstaller (version and placed it on my desktop. I rebooted in SAFE MODE and then ran the uninstaller, twice! Each time it told me that I had successfully uninstalled Flash player. I rebooted and went to Adobe to download/install the latest version (9,0,16,0). The install went ok, as I got the flash screen and the version number of the program. I then rebooted again.

And, I still have the same problem!

Does anyone have an idea about just what is going wrong?

A:Flash won't work on web sites

try uninstalling it through add/remove programs in the control panel, i had a similar problem with flash not working on some sites. just uninstall, reboot, then reinstall. i never tried using the uninstaller they provide from the website but this fixed my problem

Dear Anyone.

I can't make Windows Media Player play sites that use its embedded version to play video. Ive tried 10 and get the same problem.

They all come up with the Windows Media Player little black box with the linked windows and the Windows Media Player logo in, but none of them start playing video! Yet if I cut and paste the URLs into VLC, a free media player, they play fine. 9 worked, but of course I don't have it any more!

So why not just use VLC, you cry.

Because sites like LordOfTv.com have loads of stations and they don't all display URLs. And the video pages of sites like Worldmade Channel don't work with VLC.

If it's any help, if I do CTRL-U and type a URL in, it doesn't recognise is as an Internet link, it thinks I'm looking for a file on my system and tells me it can't find the file. I don't understand that one either (Gawd, if I had a brain I'd be lethal! If brains were dynamite I couldn't blow my nose....)

Anyone know what my connection problems could be:?

Yours puzzledly

The file source (URL) filter is a generic asynchronous source filter that works with any source file that can be identified by a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and whose media major type is stream. This includes AVI, MPEG, and WAV files.

This filter uses Microsoft Internet Explorer's URLMon and supports code pages.

The file source (URL) filter requires the downstream filter to be a parser, such as the MPEG-1 Parser/Splitter, or the AVI Filter.

And when I click that to close,my window(s) close to desk top!

Thank you for reading, and I hope your help.

A:Active X won't work on some sites!

First of all, you don't want ActiveX controls to run from all sites! That would be too dangerous. You should set them as follows so that you get prompted if you want to allow it or not.
Go to Internet Options > Security > Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.
Please do the following:

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.

I belong to an online forum wherein the host appears to me to be a bit passive-aggressive. He makes snide comments, then acts like his target has the problem because, presumed by him, he has years and years experience with such things and getting offended by an online forum is always a choice made by the recipient of the remark, never the hostile words of the poster.

My question is, because of the above and a few strange interactions on the site between him and several other members, I'm wondering if there's any way he can mess with my computer while I am a member or afterwards.

As you can see, I'm quite ignorant about the internet and computers in general.

Thanks for your insight and help!

What on EARTH process is always running in the background to make my hard drive chatter away for literally nearly 3-5 minutes after a bootup...and we're talking with a FRESH install!....Some something is running a LOT in the background but task manager is absolutely worthless in pointing out what is going on...It even gets to the point where , after having the Edge browser opened and perusing the internet for awhile, things get so bogged down, and windows is too stupid to tell me exactly WHY it's bogged down, things get to where even a mouse click is delayed upwards of 10 seconds! lol. Sometimes things completely freeze and pushing the reset button is the only way out...I've gone as far as downloading Avasts 'emergency startup' disc and booting from it , thinking there might be a virus, but it found nothing (although I'm wondering if it's loading a small portion of windows, which if it is, and a virus or malware is in that small portion, booting to the disc and running the anti-virus software is pointless...maybe I should try it with a linux based emergency disc?) ....

I deleted the Facebook shorcut, opened Google, put in the Facebook address, brought up Facebook, added to favorites. Clicked favorites/facebook and it comes up. Closed google, double clicked facebook shortcut, nothing, right clicked selected open, nothing!
I used google to get to your website, created a shortcut, closed google, double clicked dnet shortcut, nothing.
I am mystified, all internet icons worked before I used CCleaner.
By the way all the shortcuts are .com.

I have a recent problem with trying to browse a couple of my regular websites. When I try to view them I get "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at" messages, instantly with no even trying to access the domains. I tried ping and tracert commands in the command prompt, and both failed to connect to the domains. However, when I go to any proxy/unblocking website and enter these sites, they will load fine through proxy so I know they're online. They were showing up as "down for everyone" a few days ago, checking via websites that check domains, but they're working now.

I checked my hosts file, they're not being blocked through that. It's not a Firefox issue as even IE won't load them. I said before, they'll load via proxy websites but not in my browsers through normal use. I have no idea what's blocking these sites or why I can't view them. Could it be an issue on the server's end not letting me connect? Blocking via my ISP? Or just some other thing with my PC? Though I can't think of why these 2 specific sites would be giving me problems, neither is related to antivirus or whatever and all my scans with MSE and Malewarebytes are coming up clean for malware. I did run Windows Update a few days ago, but it was mostly MSE definition updates and 1 Windows 7 update, nothing really special, and I think this started well after I ran the update. As it is I'm basically clueless. And even though I can load them in proxy sites I can't use them as they ... Read more

A:certain sites work in proxy, but not in my browsers

Hi Diosoth,

You may try if possible for you to connect to a Free Wi-Fi Hotspots just to see if it has nothing to do with your ISP. Some DNS's may be changed or update by your ISP. Your ISP doesn't normally inform their clients of these changes, I have experienced this myself.

Other than using Proxy's, Public DNS's might also help.

I have Windows ME, use Firefox, but also have been trying IE and Netscape the last two days. My browsers sometimes display a site, e.g., Yahoo.com, but I get messages most of the time that server cannot be found when I click on links. Sometimes my home page won't display and sometimes email won't go - smtp server not found, but sometimes it works. I use DSL. My laptop, which I am using now, is connected to the same DSL router and it works fine. Today I had the hard drives on my desktop - the PC with the weird problem - worked on at a computer service shop. All data removed, virus, trojans, etc., removed (presuming there were some) and everything put back. I still have the same problem. Also, I use CuteFTE Pro for my web site, and I cannot get it to connect. I am at a loss as to what this is. My email, again seems to be working fairly well since I had the shop work the computer, but the browsers - all of them - do not function right at all. Do I still have a bug? Anyone experience this before. I will be happy to furnish any information you need to assist me. Thanks, Dan

Yesterday I downloaded a program from the internet that did strange things to my computer (the program was removed afterwards). My internet shortcut that was directing to google was directed to mozilla firefox. I deleted firefox from my computer. Now I can't put anymore shortcuts to internet sites on my desktop and the ones who were there don't work anymore. I can access internet explorer 8 without any problem from start - all programs. Some an idea what caused this? How can it be repaired?

I have an issue where any google related site does not work in any browser (IE/Chrome/Firefox). All other sites seem to be more or less fine although perhaps a little slow.

I'm running Windows XP SP3. I can ping Google without issue. My hosts file is clean and I checked in the registry to make sure that the hosts file is where it is supposed to be. I have run all the malware checkers that I can find. HijackThis is clean. AVG reports no issues. If I configure an external proxy server then it works. I have cleared down all my programs but am fairly sure I never had anything dodgy which could have introduced malware. I have flushed my dns. I have changed dns to use the google free DNS service.

I have seen a similar issue reported on a number of forums, some there was no reported solution, others, the cause if different from my own. Some seem to be with a Linksys router. I'm currently using an android phone hotspot. I'm running a Windows 7 laptop on the same network with no issue. Also when I boot the same machine up in Vista, again there is no issue.

I cannot find my XP disk currently although I am trying to track it down

Any ideas where to check next? DDS and GMER logs are attached

When you run this tool, remember to choose 'Skip' not 'Cure' if it finds something. We just want a scan, not a fix.

Download tdsskiller.exe and Save it to your Desktop.

Double-click tdsskiller.exe and click 'Run'

Click 'Change parameters' then under 'Additional options' tick both boxes > OK.

Click 'Start scan'.

If no infection is found, click 'Close' and let me know.

If an infection is found, select 'Skip' from the dropdown menu under 'Cure' then click 'Continue' > 'Close' > 'Close'.

It will produce a log here > C:\TDSSKiller.

Please navigate to the file, double-click to open it, and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Hi everyone.
I am really trying to find my way around here and hope I didn't post this in the wrong forum. This problem could be related to my DSL box. The Internet settings in general possibly. I tried to search for a fix but wasn't able to find a fix on the search menu.
I will try and be detailed.
I started having problem about a year ago. Some sites work, some don't. I use IE7, Mozilla, And Chrome. Tried Opera. I am using Windows 7. I can connect to www.google.com, not www.yahoo.com. Alot of times I can search online, and many links won't work. www.fedex.com dosent work. My secretary is using a laptop with Windows 7. It connects fine to everything. She is wired into the wireless router, and so am I.
I can take the computer to my home which is the same ISP (CenturyLink) and the sites work. I also can update windows then, as it will not update some of the programs (adobe, Java etc) when I am at the office.
I have posted on several forums related to this problem. I tried to contact the provider. They say that because the secretary's computer works then its not their problem.
I just can't believe this problem can be so difficult to fix. I have dealt with quoting customers from my mobile phone connected to the wireless router because the computer was unable to access the sites needed to for the quote.
I am running Malwarebytes. I have tried several antivirus programs. I am also using SuperAntiSpyware... Read more

Greetings all,

My dilemma began this morning. I went to sleep last night, after playing several games (WoW, TF2, Call of Duty), chatting on AIM and Yahoo, and checking E-mail. The usual daily stuff.

When I woke this morning, I found my laptop can no longer access ANYTHING that requires a username or password. I cannot log into my games, I cannot connect to AIM, Yahoo, IRC, cannot check E-mail on Hotmail, load my Work E-mail, nothing.

If it's a website, it simply hangs at "connecting to www.website.com" for whatever site it is, if it's Yahoo or AIM, it simply hangs at the login, then returns an error. Games simply stall at the "Connecting" step.

I have restored my system to Monday, when everything worked, to no avail. I have downloaded SP 3, which was probably long overdue, and that did nothing.

I have changed nothing on my system since it worked at midnight this morning, and when I awoke at 9am, it was in its current state.

I am staying in a hotel, and at first, believed this to be the issue. However, I have a work laptop as well, and was able to access all of the above services on both the Ubuntu and Windows sides of the laptop, so I cannot blame the hotel Network. It seems as though something was updated overnight, which I cannot understand because Windows will not update unless I authorize it. I had a firewall up as well, so I don't think any intruders performed any malicious actions on my PC, but who's to know really.

I told him to copy and paste a host file from MVPS.org but it said access was denied.Any suggestions to how to solve this problem would be helpful. My video card was overheating and my system "beeping". I added a second fan in the area of it and it is fine now except for one site I visit. It is the ESPN Fantasy Baseball Site where the players stats are updated in real time as they are playing. I still get a "beep" from my computer when I visit that site. I just wondered if some sites put extra stress on video cards and if the one I describe might be one of those sites. Thanks,

A:Do Some Sites Make Video Work Harder?

Although some video can certainly stress a system, what you're describing doesn't really have anything to do with video. Of course, I don't know much about sports but I do know about web design and computers. That being said, I've gone to the ESPN Fantasy Baseball site and there is nothing there that would cause a GPU issue. When you say your computer is "beeping", is it coming from the tower itself or from your speakers?

Looking at your specs I don't see any reason you should be having any issues graphically. As a side note, if you are/were experiencing overheating issues your machine would either fritz out (anomalies or artifacts on your screen) or it would shut itself down. There are safeguards in place within the BIOS of each piece of hardware. A threshold if you will.

Sounds to me like the issue might lay somewhere else. First, let's find out where the beeping is actually coming from.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, hope I am posting this right.

I have a hp laptop which has Windows Vista Home prem, and a desktop with Window XP SP3, both have AVAST.

The Problem.

This started a few weeks, I am unable to access some websites on my laptop which is connected via wifi to my belkin router. The websites are general websites like "BUSINESSINSIDER" or " Wiki Answers", some forum, they are like normal website but some others like yahoo, youtube, streeteasy, realtor.com work fine but zillow doesn't come up. I usually use Opera browser which displays
the message :
" Could not locate remote server"

Chrome displays:

" Unable to access the network"

Error 21 (net::ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED): A network change was detected.

But most other websites work fine on the same wifi connection.

When I hardwire my laptop to the router or while using the desktop everything works fine all the websites work.

I have tried turning of the Web shield and network shield on the laptop when connected via wifi but no go.

Could really use some help and thank you for taking your time to read through this.

P.S: Please ask if you need additional info,

So...I've tried entering facebook, but it keeps loading, and then it asks me to choose a connection.
I'm using wireless, and that proves to be an annoyance.
Now,facebook doesn't work, some sites don't work,a few applications don't work(all say that i'm not connected to the internet),and the browser uses work offline as a defaul.
It's starting to get annoying.
It's been doing this since I've connected my PC to the internet cable(after umplugging it from the router).
I'll post a pic.
Thanks in advance.

A:Can not acces some sites/IE automatically uses work offline

facebook seems to be having server issues today.
Forums all over the net are blowing up with complaints.
I can't access it from either of my systems either. It will come up on my smartphone though. (and only using 4g, not through wifi)
Last time this happened it lasted about 2 hours and resolved itself.

Here's a google search for the last hour on facebook server not found.
as you can see it's everyone not just you.

I have had problems accessing Walmart.com and my work site of lps.org . I have read many forums and other information about this same problem. I am using AVG Free 8, I also have Spybot installed. I have uninstalled each of these separately and restarted with no luck. I also have Hijack installed, but I don't know how to read it. Another thing I've read about is the rundll.exe trojan. I do have this in my system32 folder. When I tried to delete it, I was told I didn't have authority to do so.

I have Vista and this occurs in both Firefox 5 and IE 7.

I could use some help. This is driving me crazy. Thanks! Beth

A:Can't Access Certain Sites, Eg Walmart And My Work Website

I'm just going to give this a shot and say try going into safe more and deleting the trojan. You tried spybot, which is my usual favorite of free spyware catchers.. Hm. Try, if you can't delete it in safe mode, using Spybot in Safe mode, and if you still don't get it, I had twoviruses once that were giving me the same error. Combofix killede them right on the bat (Once again, in safe mode.)

I have used this program without help from a professional a few times, no problems, but DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
