[SOLVED] Screen resolution changes everytime I turn on the comp.

Q: [SOLVED] Screen resolution changes everytime I turn on the comp.

I am running Windows XP, don't know what service pack.

When I started up my computer and then logged in, the screen flashed black, a message from the monitor appeared "auto adjust in progress" and then my screen was at a very low resolution. I tried changing it back but none of the resolutions seemed quite right (could just be me). So I decided to restart and see what happens. This time login screen is at the low resolution (I can't remember if I had left the screen at a low resolution when I restarted.). So I go back, try one ore time and the same thing happens as the first time, log in, screen flashes black, message shows for fraction of a second and the resolution goes low.

I can't remember what I did since the last time the computer was on before the problems started occurring. But, today I ran a scandisk, (because of a problem an HP printer I installed yesterday is causing), I installed a new program called "Combat arms" (a free to play online FPS I downloaded) and I uninstalled multiple applications as part of some cleanup I was doing.

Any advice on fixing my problem would be greatly appreciated!

Preferred Solution: [SOLVED] Screen resolution changes everytime I turn on the comp.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When loading Windows and yet to reach my desktop, I get this error on the blue screen.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory optiosn such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

My problem started back when i tried to install windows 7 on another disk, but it would not. Now i did this while my primary windows 7 hard drive was already istalled. after i gave up on trying to get windows to install onto this secondary hard drive, i rebooted the computer to find that my primary ssd would not load windows, and simple came to a black screen that said:

Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart

then i would press a key and it would say:

Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

I have no recovery disk and most definitely do not understand what remove disks or other media means because I removed the windows installer dis and tried again but nothing happened. Please help, i am so confused, thankyou.

My desktop keeps showing blue screens. Yesterday I was able to start it up and tried to restore to a previous point, but it wouldn't complete and gave a blue screen. Now I can't turn the computer on without a blue screen displaying. I've pulled out the old laptop to post this. So far I've copied down the info for three of them. They are as follows:

The first one I saw:
0x000000051 (0x0000000D, 0x00000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Another blue screen displayed:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x864401A8, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)
And the last one I saw:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x86D79168, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your STOP 24 error...indicates a problem with either a key system file, your partition/file structure, or your hard drive.

See 24 in left column at http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm .

The Stop 51 error is somewhat ambiguous, but...since part of the error message indicates a registry problem, I would believe that.

Okay now i have no idea what the model is for my mother board, and no idea what type of AGP slot it has, but it is empty because atm i have an onboard NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX INtegrated GPU. my computer atm is an AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 512 MB PC2700 333 cl2.5 DDR (its also a crapy HP Pavilion if that helps). I bought the computer back in september 2003 and it was refurbished if that helps in determining what type of AGP slot it is.

here is the video card i bought:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1043623&sku=C460-8006
(ya i know, noot good or anything, but i dont need some super good video card with my computer) i only wanted to get a new one because when i bought new ram (2x512, PC3200 400 cl2.5 DDR ram) it didnt work in my computer when ever i ran a game like cs, it would always shut down or restart my computer.

I know i need to disable my previous driver for my onboard video card, but i did that and installed the video card and checked to see if it worked by plugging in my monitor, mouse and keyboard and turning it on, and nothing came up on my monitor.

The help would be greatly appreciated, because i also want to run another game on my computer (like HL2 or CS:S because CS 1.6 just aint enough )

And if you are able to determine somehow what type of AGP slot it is, would the AGP 8x i bought work on it? or would it have voltage issues that are causing it to not work.

This morning my computer auto-shutoff (before I woke up). When I went to turn it on, the box light and fans blinked on for less than a second and then nothing. I opened it up, it's clean (dusted it with air about two weeks ago), all lines look and feel to be securely in place, and the motherboard light is on, which I think rules out the power supply. So what is wrong with my system?

System Specs:

Power Supply: 470W Thermaltake (Silent Power Edition)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz (1066MHz Front Side Bus) (4MB Cache) (Conroe)
MotherBoard: Asus P5N-SLI (Chipset: nForce 570 Intel) (SLI Compatible) (Conroe)
Memory: 2GB DDR2 Super Talent at 800MHz (High Performance)
Hard Drive: 80GB Western Digital (8MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB (By: XFX) (PCI-Express)
Cooling: Air Cooling (Certified Digital Storm Heat-sink and Fan) (Stage 1 Cooling)
OS: Windows XP ME 2005 SP2

I do plan on calling Digital Storm Tech Support this morning, but since they're a west coast company I have to impatiently wait for them to open at 9am. Depending on the problem, they may not be able to fix it either, so I come to you guys.

Thank you, in advance, for any light you can give to this problem.

if your just now setting it up it could the motherboard shorting out. like if one of the mounting screws for the motherboard is touching something on the board it could cause it to short out. try and see if you can remove the board from the case so that its not touching anything metal and see if it will boot up.

I just received an HP P7 1207c which uses a DVI-D ports only. I had to buy a
Insignia? - 20" Widescreen Flat-Panel LED HD Monitor - NS-20EM50A13

At first i had problems with the computer not allowing me to change the resolution from 640x480. After i shutdown and redid the cable and made sure all the screws were actually in the pin holes, i was finally able to change my resolution. Ive restarted my computer at least 5 times and each time it reverts back to 640x480. Ive updated my drivers to the latest. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A:Resolution reverting back to 640x480 everytime computer is restarted

I would first try a different video cable.

For testing, use the "(recommended)" screen resolution in the list of available resolutions (Windows Desktop > Right click > Screen Resolutions)

While in the Screen Resolutions settings, click Advanced Settings > go to the Monitor Tab
Make sure the box "Hide modes that the monitor cannot display" is checked.
Then use the drop down box to select the highest mode available.
Hope that helps

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

focusing on getting the data off -
It may be possible to boot from another Operating System
This will at least test the Hardware and also see if you can see the Harddrive and possibly get data off.

If you have another PC with a cdwriter and spare CD
goto http://www.ubuntu.com/ and download the ISO

full details are here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

click on the image "download ubuntu"
Select a location
then begin download
Save the file onto your PC – remember where you saved it – so you can find it again to create the image bootable CD.

You do NOT copy the ISO file onto a CD - you have to use the ISO to create a bootable CD
The CD creator software you have on the PC may have an option to create an image from an ISO
If not - use this free program http://www.imgburn.com/

When the UBUNTU CD boots - you will see the following options
1) Try ubunto without any change to your computer
2) Install ubuntu
3) Check CD for defects
4) Test memory
5) Boot from first hard disk.

Use OPTION 1 "Try ubunto without any change to your computer" ONLY this option this will run from the CD and not install onto your harddrive - be careful, if you do install onto the PC - you will wipe the data and software OFF your hard drive.., so repeat only use option 1

Now you should see a UBUNTU desktop
This at least proves the main parts of the PC are working

You may see your Harddrive on the deskt... Read more

Well my computer froze, and I restarted it. It got stuck restarting so I turned the power off. Now when I turn it on, it goes to the menu where the choices are Safe Mode, Normal mode and a few extras. I choose any of them , it flashes a blue screen and then restarts again, taking me to that menu again. The flash is like half a second, and I cant read it. Anybody know what is wrong? I cant turn it on at all. All the choices do the same thing? Is it dead? I dont have anything important on it luckily , other than some downloaded games and crap. Please help!!! What do I do?

A:Starts up, then restarts.... EVERYTIME, cant turn it on.

Same happened with me - couldn't see the screen not one bit. I found out the error message though which helped me a lot, if you find it out - you'll be able to get a faster result as people will know the exact error.

Try getting a camera and if you can put it on "continuous" shot or video it and pause it at that second. :P

Does it do the same thing if on first boot you enter safe mode (F8)? Have you checked both the application tab, and system tab in event viewer?

If there is nothing in eventvwr then it must be a "normal" event. Even those are listed in eventvwr. Can you take a snip of the events adjacent to the time of the first boot and upload it to us?

I have to hit the reset button every time I turn my computer on. After i hit the reset button everything comes up just fine. But every morning when i get up I turn the power to my computer on and it has a blank screen the two DVD drives blink and the hdd led stays lit up bright. but then when i hit the reset button it comes up just like normal. can anyone tell me why this is? It's not affecting anything that I can tell just annoying. I do not have to go into BIOS and change anything after this occurs. Windows starts just like normal and there does not seem to be any thing else wrong with my pc.

Thanks for the help guys this site is the best!

Hey guys. With my desktop pc, everytime I turn it on the date and time is always not what it should be. A few moments ago the date was I think 25th of November 2006 and the time was way off what it is now. The date actually usually does reset to 2006 but haven't noticed if it's the same day/month in 06.
What could be the cause of this and how could I fix this?

A:Computer date and time changes everytime I turn it on

The first thing to check when the time is not shown properly is the battery and check BIOS.

For a long time, everytime I turn my desktop on, it automatically checks C:/ and D:/ for errors. Now that I've installed another hard drive (2 hard drives now) it checks for D:/ and F:/ drives. It doesn't take a long time to check (2 minutes or so), but it's giving me the impression that something is wrong with my computer.

I don't think I've set up my desktop to have this 'routined' disk check for errors. My friend has this same problem, except that he just told me it 'stopped' for him all of a sudden.

Let me know if you know how to solve this.

A:Automatic HDD check for errors everytime I turn on my computer

Check out what Microsoft has to say about Error Checking at start up.

If that doesn't help check your antivirus settings.

I get this error message whenever i start up my computer or restart it. Is this a serious issue? if soo how do i fix it.
(see attachment)

A:Error message everytime i turn on/restart onto computer

Might be serious. Something is trying to install itself.

Have you recently tried to install any software ?

If not, I'd wonder if you have some malware trying to do something.

Along with the Vista x64 pc we also have three other pc's at home (two are Vista 32 bit, the other is XP), one xbox360, two Wii's, and one ps3. They all connect to the internet with a wireless connection. The Vista x64 pc I have tried both a wireless connection as well as a hard wired ethernet connection.

I have two Cisco/linksys wireless routers that I have tried and the problem is the same regardless of which one I try to use. I have a WRT54GL and a WRT160NL. I have tried various firmware versions for both.

The problem involves the Vista 64-bit pc. It is the only Vista 64-bit device we have in the house. The internet runs fine as long as that pc is turned off. As soon as I turn it on, none of the devices I listed have internet access any more. On the Vista 64-bit pc I have tried both hard wired as well as wireless NIC's. Doesn't matter. I have tried putting in a static IP address as well as DHCP, neither makes a difference. Also, I installed Vista Business 32-bit on another hard drive for this pc and as soon as I did that my pc no longer took down the internet. It is obviously a problem with Vista 64-bit.

I have spent hours googling this. Apparently it is a common problem with 64-bit OS's and a lot of people are having this problem. So far I have formatted and reinstalled Vista on the pc in question to rule that out. I have disabled IPv6, turned down the speed on the NIC to 10mb Full Duplex, disabled the Firewall, disabled wireless security on the router... Read more

A:Everytime I turn on my Vista Ultimate x64 pc, it takes the internet down for all

I would say that it that it is a program running in the background as i once had a trojan that was not strong enough to kill my computer however just by running in the background and sending out its messages it would overload the routers/modem.

What I would do it turn on the Pc in question.

Start task manager

Click Netowkring tab and see if the network usage is high.

if it is then click the Performance tab and then select resource monitor.

select network and see what process's are using the network if not then it very well could be a settings issue and I would not know which.

I have a Samsung Chronos 7 (Windows 8).

I don't know how I did it but yesterday I managed to change the screen size with the track pad!

I've found how to change it back however every application (Microsoft Outlook, Google Chrome, Microsoft Word etc) is much larger too.

How can I change these back to how they were?

A:Solved: Screen resolution

Just found it. I had the screen set to 125% instead of 100%. All fine now.

Hi All,
I am designing a database which allows you to enter a sales order within a form. The main user requires large text and so to fit it all in, the form is spread out over three pages. At the bottom of page 1, I have a page break and a command button with the down arrow. They click this and go straight down onto page 2 and then down to page 3 etc.

Other users will use the same form but have different screen resolutions set up. When they view the form, they get all of page 1 and 1/2 of page 2 in view.

Has anyone else had this issue with setting out forms for different screen resolutions?

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Solved: Screen resolution

I would recommend a tabbed form. This will provide the same look and feel besides the size for all users.

I'm trying to increase the screen resolution on my laptop to make things "smaller" so I have better use of the screen. When I increase the screen resolution under the display properties it makes the desktop "larger" and expands it outside of my visible display. I can mouse around and it will 'move' to the edges but I want to be able to see the whole screen. I have never had this happen on any computer before and I'm not sure how to change it to 'compress' the desktop at higher resolution to fit within the visible area and just make things smaller.

A:Solved: Help with screen resolution

With an LCD flat panel display, the display has a "fixed" resolution. If you try any other resolution, the image will either appear too small or too big (as in your case). Your graphics card control panel might support scaling, which would allow you to do what you want, but the quality of the image drops.
