I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

-memory_management 0x0000000001a,

- "A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. The faulty driver currently being on the kernel stack must be replaced with a working version." GDRO.sys-
address fffff88000626a8f9, base at fffff88006269000, datestamp 49b9d125

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

System specs:
Processor: Intel 2500K Core Duo Unleashed
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-p67A-UD3P
RAM: I have 4x4 Corsair Vengeance, only using 1 stick of 4GB corsair vengeance currently due to troubleshooting.
HDDs:Intel 180GB SSD and Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 TB (empty)
PSU: corsair 750 watt
Soundcard: MOBO

When I canoo

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

I have just built a Windows 7 machine and am having lots of problems

I can't run windows update which outputs error messages - have followed all the fixes for this to no success

I get BSOD constantly whenever I try to do anything

The system is all new apart from the GPX card (full spec below)

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core
Asus M5A99x motherboard
8 GB (2x4) Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey DDR3
Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB PCIe (moved over from old PC)
1 x OCZ Vertex II Bigfoot 120GB SSD (OS and program drive)
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD (file storage only)
Rane TTM57SL USB soundcard
730W BeQuiet PSU

The system is a fresh build yesterday with NOTHING installed on any of the drives apart from:

Motherboard drivers
Windows OS - 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
Windows updates (up to a point - 8 of them can't install)
Serato Scratch Live software and drivers for the TTM57SL
AVG Antivirus Free

I have attached a zip of dump file and report

Any help would be massively appreciated

I had updated the Windows 10 April Update on my Thinkpad X230. I use Bitlocker to encrypt C, D disks. Before update Windows, I suspended Bitlocker function on C, update all newest drivers downloaded from Lenovo for Thinkpad X230 (BIOS, Firmware, ...). After update Windows 10, I can use my laptop in some hours, then I shutdown it. However, from this time, I cannot boot Windows, it only boot on some seconds and automatically turn off. I use USB Windows to go to boot my laptop, then turn off Bitlocker in C drive, and I can boot and use my Thinkpad. Unfortunately, when I turn on Bitlocker again, my Thinkpad X230 cannot boot again. Any idea for me? Please don't tell me turn off Bitlocker.

Windows Update just offered BIOS 2.32 for my P70 (20ER) with no override capability provided! I've seen this behavior before for BIOS 2.31, but I had already updated my system to that level so the Update did not process. This time, however, the system rebooted several times on the Lenovo splash screen with a red progress bar. I checked after the system stopped rebooting to check the BIOS level and it was now 2.32.
This "feature" is very dangerous to be on automatic given the recent issues on several systems becoming bricked for one reason or other with a BIOS update. I don't believe that it is prudent to place firmware on the Windows Update Service in which the normal safeguards are bypassed.

I'm unable to install an update to windows installer 3.1. I've tried many times and it always fails. But I also read the fine print about that update and it doesn't sound as if it matters much if I don't install it, so I'm going to ignore it.

Trouble is, I can't find a way to tell windows update to STOP automatically notifying me that that update is available. I can cancel it but every time I restart I get the update shield back again.

Obviously, that's not a problem, just an annoyance. But is there a way to tell windows update to stop offering me that particular update permanently?

HI! Saludos from Mexico.

I've been using the forum for the last week studying windows 8 and it's features, because recently i just bought an Asus x450CA with Windows 8 CoreSingleLanguage. (i use xubuntu regularly and osx, win7 a little)

So, i managed to download a Retail Win 8.1 update 1 (MSDN) and couldn't use my win8 OEM key to activate.

I realized i had to get a CoreSingleLanguage version, so downloaded the most recent ESD from a thread on MyDigitalLife.

I proceeded installing with Generic Key and then activating with my OEM key, and procedure was flawless.

Started downloading drivers, and search for updates, and i find my Windows update is showing KB2919355 with a more recent date as shown here:

Any info. regarding this situation? Windows 8.1 update is already installed as shown here:

I reinstalled Windows 7 because I apparently forgot to set the BIOS to AHCI for my SSD. No real problem doing this, but I noticed I was not offered HomeGroup during reinstall. Why might that be? I inadverently left the computer connected to the Internet through a cable modem and wireless router (D-Link DIR-655), but upon reloading of Windows also noticed there was no Internet connection as I need a RealTek LAN driver installed to get any connectivity. Besides, once I deleted the old partitions on my way to a new install, the driver and any connectivity should have been lost and made no difference to install. But what do I know...I have been around Win7 for about 3 days.

Did something go wrong on my install (no HomeGroup) or did having the Internet connected have something to do with this?

- Phil

A:Windows HomeGroup Not Offered on Install

Probably you need to enable LAN in BIOS - Windows would supply a driver then, and you'll find Homegroup ready to be set up.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Core 64bit, I'm logged in with Local user account, so device encryption is off and there is no way to enable it.

I have set Windows update to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". I usually wait several weeks after windows updates are released before I install them.

First when optional updates were released on September 15th I could see KB3084905 listed in available optional updates list, but 2 weeks later when I decided to install optional updates KB3084905 was no longer offered to install.

Was it pulled by Microsoft because it's not applicable to my system since I'm logged in with local user account or for some other reasons?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

A:KB3084905 is no longer offered by windows update

It's been pulled or another cumulative update has it, it's now where to be found in the Microsoft library.

Windows update have not offered me (yet?) to install SP1 update. The only reason I can think of is that I have not installed KB976902, but as it has been dubbed as the "Blackhole" update until recently, you can understand my hesitation to install it. Most experts advised to wait. Another issue that arises is that after some research I did in the internet, one of the hotfixes installed with SP1 is KB971033. I guess many of you remember this update and that a lot of people (between them myself) were reluctant to install. What does it mean KB971033 hotfix installed? So I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions as to how to proceed with updating to SP1 (is it worth it? Should I wait until it is offered?) and if anyone has managed to install it without having to install KB976902.I have windows 7 ultimate x64.

A:Windows 7 sp1 is not offered from windows update

I have win 7 home premium and installed SP1 w/o an issue. I also have both updates you mentioned, and my system is running fine.

Came across this today, thought it might be helpfull!!
" If you have a Compaq or HP desktop system and have used Windows Update to odtain WinXP SP1, you have probably seen a special update for your system. The update is actually a help file that directs you to the Compaq-HP site to obtain a patch. The patch is small , but vital that you implement it. If you do not install the patch, the next time you use WinXP System Recovery utility, you could lose all data stored on the hard drive. Follow the directions provided with the Windows Update , print out the patch instructions you encounter along the way, and have a floppy ready and you should be able to download and install the update within 15 minutes"

Now what should I tell them to do?

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Windows 10 Still Offered as Free Upgrade After Fall Creators Update Launch

Back in 2015 when Microsoft officially launched Windows 10, the company offered it completely free of charge if the upgrade from genuine Windows 7 or 8.1 was performed within the first 12 months after the release.

But even though the promo came to an end in July 2016, Windows 10 was still available free of charge with a trick that Microsoft didn?t seem to be too very keen on blocking, and by the looks of things, the same trick continues to be available today.

Basically, Microsoft allows customers who use assistive technologies to upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost, and all they have to do is to ?claim? they use an accessibility feature in the operating system. There?s no verification taking place and the upgrade can be performed by pretty much anyone presuming they run a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
This doesn?t mean that Windows 10 is free of charge. No, because whoever wants to use this ?loophole? to upgrade to Windows 10 still needs a genuine license for their Windows operating system. But with product keys for Windows 7 and 8.1 still up for grabs these days if you know where to look, moving to Windows 10 is less expensive than it might seem at first glance.

No word on blocking the loophole
So does Microsoft plan to block this free upgrade method? Good question, and although an official answer isn?t available, the company says on the upgrade page that the offer will ... Read more

Microsoft Announces Patch for Critical Windows 10 Anniversary Update Bug

Soon after Microsoft rolled out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 2, the firm started getting reports of a potential bug that might impact partitions on computers that upgrade to the new version.

Specifically, users were complaining that after installing the Anniversary Update, some of their partitions were no longer visible in Windows 10, making it impossible to access data that was stored here.

Without a doubt, many thought their data was gone, but Microsoft rushed to acknowledge the bug shortly after that, explaining that it was working on a fix, and no files were lost despite the fact that partitions were no longer visible.

And recently, Microsoft announced that a patch was ready, and it would release it to users as part of the next Windows update patch, without actually providing specifics on when exactly this is scheduled to take place.

?Thanks for everyone?s input and patience. Microsoft is planning to release a fix to address the majority of the misidentified partitions in an upcoming Windows Update,? a company engineer said.

Possibly releasing to insiders first
Furthermore, this message doesn?t state whether Windows insiders would get it first or not, but the chances are that they will given the fact the original post also highlights the steps necessary to get updates as part of the Windows Insider program.

Among the Patch Tuesday updates of August 2014, IIRC, KB2976897 was one of the problematic security updates. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 x64, and KB2976897 is being offered as an update. Custom patch bypasses update block for Windows 7, 8.1 PCs with newest-generation processors

A few days ago, Microsoft has officially blocked updates for PCs running Windows 7 and 8.1 on the newest generation processors. This means that these systems will no longer get feature updates, hotfixes, or security patches. While this indeed is an inconvenience for those opting to run the older operating systems, a GitHub user has found a way around the hurdle, thus activating updates again.

The user, who goes by the name "zeffy", has tested four batch scripts after this month's Patch Tuesday. The files will patch Windows DLL files, which will then fool the system into thinking that the processors are still supported. The end result is that now delivery of updates to the formerly blocked PCs will continue unhindered.

According to the README file he has provided, Zeffy was able to create the patch by reverse engineering the KB4012218 update Microsoft has recently provided, and compared it to the ones that are already in his computer.

In his analysis, he found two culprits, "IsCPUSupported(void)" and "IsDeviceServiceable(void)". He found that these functions were responsible for triggering the block of updates in new processors. Zeffy's scripts modify these, by changing the functions' outputs to "1", meaning "supported CPU". Once done, he states that updates will be delivered again to older operating systems with moder... I have a FLEX 215 running the new Creators Update.  After I installed this update, Windows update  keeps offering me the ethernet driver even though I already have this latest ethernet driver already installed.   I tried downloading the latest ethernet driver from Lenovo website and went through setup steps and repair option.  When I checked again it did not says "Windows is up to date and the time".  It kept trying to install the ethernet driver.
Is this happening to anybody else?  Please help

Hello CaryguyThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try to uninstall the driver, and the let the computer try to find it.

Click Start, type Device Manager, and press Enter.
Find and double-click the category of driver you want to uninstall
Right-click the device, and click Uninstall.
Windows will prompt you to confirm the device?s removal. Click OK to remove the driver.
After the uninstallation is complete, reboot your computer as soon as possible.

See if this can help.

Hello everybody,

I need help on how to install manually a patch which seems to be quite essential to upgrade my
16gb tablet to the 1511 build of windows 10:

the patch is KB3124260 and I downloaded manually the .cab file from the official support site, but I have
no experience about this, and no clue on how to install it. Is there any tool or script available?

thank you very much in advance!

A:Infos on how to install an update patch manually (.cab file)

You can install a .cab file using DISM like this from an elevated command prompt (you'll need to update the path in red..)
DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\temp\<whatever path>\KB3124260-x64.cab
It should however install automatically anyway (according to the release notes) so do check windows update first.
