I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: 30 day activation period cut short

When you try to boot XP a page should open with Let's Activate Windows at the top. There should be three options, Yes, let's activate Windows now over the Internet, Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and you have already precluded the other option. Once you have a valid product code click on the option that you wish to use and it should prompt you through the process.

Where are you getting the product code from?

The last 2 days i have noticed that after around 30mins or so i can no longer open files/internet/pics etc

Nothing can be opened but window tabs can be minimized and have full use of mouse and keyboard.

I cant open task manage when this happens and only a restart works.
This can only be done manually via the reset button on base unit and not via Windows restart function.

Ive run full AV scan with MSE and came back clean.

Not installed any programs within this time, the only thing that i can think of updating was Firefox 2 days ago.

many thanks for any help

A:PC freezing after short period

If you created a System Restore point prior to updating Firefox, you could use that restore point to roll back your system.

If you don't already have it, and can get on the web (or otherwise place a downloaded installer on the problem computer), you should try a full scan with Malwarebytes after allowing it to update.

When machine is left for a short while it goes onto screen saver but when left for a longer period it fails to respond, with cursor appearing in top left hand corner, and the only way to restart is to press reset button. Anyone any ideas please?

Hello.

I encountered several BSODs within days of each other. I don't play games or download anything on my PC. I just use it for surfing the net and general usage (mostly Office). I also technically faced a blue screen just 2 days ago. I clicked on a folder and suddenly my monitor flickered and I saw a flash of blue before it went black.

I am using Windows 7 32 bit.

I am not very tech savvy so I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Attached are the minidump files.

Thank you very much.

I am running XP SP3 and use Firefox 2.0.0.15. I recently started losing my Internet connection (running a NetGear wireless PC card on my laptop) at random a few minutes after startup. Downloaded Windows Live OneCare trial version to sweep for viruses. Found a Trojan horse and deleted, along with some cookies. Problem persisted. Got a new wireless card...problem migrated from lost Internet connection to frozen system, freezing anywhere from 5 to 100 minutes after startup during Internet usage. I had downloaded a couple of plug-ins to Firefox but uninstalled them, thinking that was the problem. It froze again about 10 minutes ago. I have not been able to normally shut down the computer in a few days and it can't be good.

I have run CHKDSK and Defrag operations. The admin menu says my HD is "healthy" and these analytical tools haven't found anything wrong yet. I haven't found the tool that checks for physical defects. Should I do that?

My computer runs hot with the cooling fan running non-stop, so I think heat might be the problem, but it's been like this since I bought it four years ago and it's just acting up now. I'm about to purchase a notebook cooler, but I want to know if something else is the problem. My computer froze while I was writing this, so I installed my old wireless card and will see if that helps, but I'm not putting any money on it...it didn't change a thing and, in fact, the computer runs worse. Hello, recently my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400, running WinXP Media Edition)'s been failing; it freezes anywhere from ten seconds to five minutes after I log in. I'm unable to install an antivirus because the laptop freezes during installation. Safe Mode seems to be, well, safer, although even so it has frozen.

I'm unable to install the antivirus (Kaspersky) in Safe Mode because Windows Installer is disabled, and none of the solutions I've found online seem to do the trick. And I suspect that even if i could get the installer to work, it'd freeze halfway through anyway.

I have no idea what's causing the freezing; it might not even be a virus at all. I've noticed that the laptop always freezes at the "Copying new files" stage of the Kaspersky installation, although whether that has something to do with my own timing or that procedure I can't guess. Also, the time that the computer did freeze in Safe Mode, I was attempting to rename a file.

The computer is completely frozen; Num Lock / Scroll Lock can't be activated/deactivated, the mouse doesn't move, etc. I can't even shut down without either pulling the plug out or holding onto the power button.

A:Laptop freezes after a short period of time

That model has been out for about three years? How long have you had your Inspiron 6400?

We need to know the configuration, including hard drive size, brand, free space, as well as memory installed.

It could be that the CPU cooling is too full of dust, hair, fiber, etc. to cool adequately... or that the hard drive is failing, or that you have inadequate memory. But it could simply be an infestation that needs to be cleaned out.

Have you tried re-enabling Windows Installer? Have you attempted to use MalwareBytes, SuperAntispyware, ComboFix, Windows Defender, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, or other top-flite spyware detectors and removers?

I'll cut to the chase - my computer is crashing, a lot. It seems to do it mostly when I am either 1) allowing it to idle and do nothing for more than a few seconds, or 2) performing medial tasks like writing in Word or something like that.

All of my info is attached in a zipped file.

I'm specifically focused on the three most recent crashes (Codes 3b, 24, and 1e) . There should be a lot more in there because my system seems to bug-check if I leave it idle for more than 20-30 seconds, but my computer wasn't creating .dmp files until I ran chkdsk with both options selected.

Let me know if you need any further info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a home server running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a PC with an Asus P5N-D motherboard. (nVidia 750i SLI chipset, nForce 10/100/1000 NIC)
We have around 10TB of hard drives connected to it and all are in RAID 1. (two 2TB+2TB arrays with Seagate Green drives and one 1TB+1TB array with Seagate 7200.12 drives)
Randomly, it will decide to slow down from gigabit to 100mbps. (My router shows gigabit as orange and 100mbps as green)
That's very unfortunate for us seeing as we transfer hundreds of gigs of data through it regularly.
If I unplug the cable from my router (Netgear N600 DR3700, DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/17/11) st) and immediately reconnect it, it goes back to gigabit. (The light also switches from green, 100mbps, to orange, gigabit)

Here is a screenshot of my advanced network settings box.

And here are the settings I have selected:

Network Address: Not Present
Priority and VLAN: Priority Enabled
Speed/duplex settings: Auto Negotiation
VLAN ID: 1
EVERYTHING else is set to Disable

Under Power Management, "Allow .... turn off to save power" is unchecked.
Any help? I'd rather it stay in gigabit mode.
Thanks.

My laptop is shutting down after a short period of time.  This started about two months after installing windows 10.   I checked my settings and they are what I want so resetting them probably won't help.  I saw an answer to this problem that read as follows:   What does "remove the tick from the box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen'." mean?   I don't see a box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen' with a tick. Open windows Control Panel, open Personalization, click the Screen Saver link in the bottom right and in the following window adjust the 'Wait' time to a more acceptable figure and remove the tick from the box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen'.  Click Apply, then Ok to save this setting.

I've discovered this issue predates Windows 10 and some online posters noticed something I have been able to verify in my situation.  It you restart, boot up, or wake from sleep with the power button the system doesn't go to sleep after a brief period of idling.  If you wake it from sleep with keyboard or mouse it does go to sleep.  I think better stated would be, it returns to sleep.  This discovery explains why at times I have thought the issue had somehow been resolved. Using the power button to wake up a system is an OK work around, but not ideal.

I have been having this problem for about a year now where my computer hangs for a few seconds and then resumes. During the 'freeze', I can still move my mouse, but programs stall or won't open until the freeze is 'over'. If there is a media player playing, it'll freeze and loop the audio or just crash completely. When I'm listening to music, It'll stop and then resume after the freeze. The problem never leads to BSOD or anything, but it's getting pretty annoying.

I have run chkdsk several times and there were no errors and I'm sure all of my drivers are updated.

Anyone know what the problem may be?

A:Computer hangs for a short period and then resumes

I think its a small virus causing the problem. You can check online with many brands of antivirus to see what you might have.
The virus may be taking many resources from your computer so you have this issues or perhaps its part of the problems that the virus is supposed to do.
Also, I suggest you to make a backup of your files because you never know what these kind of problems will lead to

So this has been an issue with my PC pretty much since I got it back in September however has just recently gotten so bad that it can't be ignored. When running a large program such as Counter Strike or Rocket League the game will run fine at around 190fps/150fps respectively however shortly after will drop to an apparent '60fps' however it is extremely laggy and looks more like 10. This occasionally will fix itself for around a minute then break again. Recently though it will not fix and the whole computer system will lag until the application is closed. It will then take up to 5 minutes for the PC to run normally again.

At first I thought it was a thermal issue but have downloaded multiple PC monitoring programs and found this not to be the case. CPU and GPU sit at around 70C / 60C. I have reinstalled and updated drivers including the integrated graphics driver and have factory reset my PC 3 times. Nothing seems to work.

This is an odd problem. This has been happening for a few days now and I'm at a bit of a loss about what the problem is exactly. It seems to have started after a recent Windows update, but I'm not sure exactly what specific element has screwed things up for me and it may have taken a bit of time for me to notice the problem due to the nature of it. I wouldn't know when to roll back my system to even if I was willing to try, and I'm not at this point.

If I leave Windows 10 alone for more than a few minutes, it freezes. This happens without fail and it's consistent. Any more than five minutes give or take a minute or two and it's frozen hard and requires a hard reset. Ctrl alt del doesn't work, alt tab doesn't work, nothing but the power button or the reset button on the case has any affect.

There is no error message, there is no spinning wheel mouse icon, the mouse pointer doesn't move. It's just frozen and no input does anything. The screen just has a still image of whatever was displaying when it happened and audio is also dead, no system sounds or anything. There was sound once, but it was when I had a game running and left it too long, and it was just that locked up audio buzzing sound. It's a hard lockup of my system and not just the video getting stuck.

It also doesn't matter if something is running. If I have a video or game running, it still happens. As long as I'm not actively inputting something with an input device such as the keyboard, mouse, or a gamepad it lo... Read more

Hi, some thoughts and a possible temporary 'fix' to get you by for now.. while you research the many threads there are on sleep issues on the forum, and some questions that may help anyone looking at this.

First, have a look at this and see if it relates to your situation:
Solved Win 10 Unattended Sleep Timeout - Same as Vista, Win 7,8[.1] ? - Windows 10 Forums

If not fixed:
1. If you put your PC to sleep or into hibernation manually, can you resume successfully?
2. Have you tried a clean boot - what happens?
3. You can also use shellexview (freeware) to disable shell extensions (hide all MS items first, the disable the rest) and see what happens- should not need to restart to try.

Finally, to keep you going for now: try downloading and installing 'Don't Sleep' (freeware).
Running this may stop your PC going into this odd state.

Have only had my T480 for a few days and Constantly plagued by an issue with the trackpoint and it's buttons. After a random period ranging from 1 minute to 10 minutes, the trackpoint stops working entirely; the touchpad becomes extremely laggy. After about 30 seconds the touchpad is working correctly however the trackpoint and its buttons stop working all together. The only way I have found to solve it, is rebooting the system, however it happens after every reboot. On occasion the trackpoint will work after this, but for only a second before failing to work again. This appears to be random, maybe after 15 minutes of it failing, after forgetting it's broken and trying to use it. This is after updating the Touchpad and pointer drivers, ensuring im on the latest BIOS.However this exact same issue occurs on a Linux partition, which leads me to believe it's a hardware fault.Has anyone experienced this before?

A couple of months ago, I had one of my graphics card 'die'/Code 43 on me (you can see the thread about it here: Could my graphics card have died?), and now my second graphics card has done the same thing - except I haven't had the same 'monitor not displaying' problems that I had with the first one.

I was playing Just Cause 2 at the time (it's not that power-hungry at all really), and it wasn't that long into the game when the graphics went funny and crashed/froze my computer.

[Force] restarting my computer, I was greeted with these lines (sorry for the slightly blurry image - the RAM was still counting up at the time of this picture btw):

I still had the Code 28 [under "3D Video Controller"] even after I installed the latest graphics driver [80% sure of it], and I still have it now.
However one thing has changed since the previous problem: I installed a 64-bit Windows 7 [Home Premium still] back in January (2011) - so perhaps that's why I didn't get a BSOD this time.
ps. I have never overclocked my cards, and I don't think I ever want to (too risky for my liking).

A:Probability of both graphics cards with probs within a short period?

It could certainly be the graphics card. I would check the monitor cables and stuff before just assuming though.

Hello,

It seems i have narrowed down my issue that I have been dealing with for it seems like months now. Well essentially my system will reboot anytime it sits for an extended period of time (about 15 to 20 Minutes). My computer will go into standby mode. I do have it set for my computer to never sleep but only my screens. I have followed the BSOD instructions and do and those to attach to this post. Here is the additional information regarding this problem...

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? - x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version?Full retail version
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Eh, varies video cards about a year old, memory and hardrives are about the same length of time. Chip is fairly new within a few months.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) OS was freshly reinstalled on 11/17/2011.

All drivers for all pieces of hardware in my machine have had the newest drivers updated, including my video cards. I have also done the BIOS update for both of my video cards available from Palit. Oddly enough i can play Starcraft II for hours and no issue with rebooting... only when it sits for an extended period of time as mentioned earlier. Any ideas woul dbe great...

Thank You,
Josh

Hello Nissan & welcome.

Analyses
Most of your dumps are including your Graphic Driver. So to really make a secure uninstall and get rid of the leftover files of the uninstallation from the Control Panel, we'll use some specific tools. The little guide below tells you what to do to uninstall and install your Nvidia-driver.

Tutorial

i) Find your driver here, save it to your desktop
ii) Download Driver sweeper, for the leftover files
iii) Uninstall your driver from the Control Panel
iv) While rebooting, go into safe-mode without internet (tip: plugout your LAN cable or disconnect wireless)
v) Run Driver Sweeper, click all the Nvidia components and analyse them
vi) Clean them all
vii) Head into Windows, without internet
viii) Install the Driver from the desktop

Anyway, this is a brand new APU build. I've only had the computer for a few days now, anytime I try and play Dayz for example after a good amount of time it will just BSOD on me, after a restart and lets say you try and launch the game again, it will BSOD during the loading process. If you try and run lets say two games at once, it'll BSOD after a little while. I have a strong feeling it's a heat issue with the stock heatsink, and I have a 212 evo coming Monday, so I would hope that would be the cause but to make sure I rather ask some other people.
I know for a fact this stock heatsink isn't able to cool this chip, because you can check Core Temp, or Speecy, and the chip is at around 70C+ which of course you panic and kind of lay off of it for a little bit, a few days ago I actually believe it hit 93C before I shut the computer down. That's way too hot, so I do believe the majority of these BSOD are heat related, but it could be heat and driver related possibly as well?

Anyway here are my computer specifications as well...
Motherboard: GA-F2A85XM-D3H
Memory: 8GB (2x4GB) CORSAIR Vengeance 1600Mhz
CPU: AMD A8-6500 GFX Radeon 8570D
Hard drive: 320GB Seagate 7200RPM
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 550W

Currently chip temp with just the internet browser open is literally 68C, I think these BSOD are heat related...What do you think? I am pretty certain, lol

I have included the ZIP of the dump files and such, as stated per sticky thread.

Okay so i've had this new PC almost 1 month now I believe(Maybe a little less). Everything was going pretty well until a few days ago, it suddenly restarted after quickly flashing the Blue Screen(Way too fast to read).

Then after everytime I boot it restarts at random times giving the quick blue screen and restarting. Sometimes it restarts just before loading windows logon screen, then sometimes a few mins after windows has fully loaded. The max time i've had it running was probably 10-15 mins.

I've tried formatting it quite a few times only to have the exact same problem, nothing had changed hardware or software wise to cause anything like this. Also no POST beeps so that doesn't help.

I've found out that the HDD isn't the problem, i'm running it right now and it works fine. I've also tried installing on multiple HDD's and keep having the same problem, both IDE and SATA.

Before this, the PC was working very well, except for not being able to boot from disc, like WinXP for example. Yet I'm using the same DVD burner now in this older PC and it boots CDs and DVDs fine. :s

A:Blue screen quickly flashes and restarts after short period of booting

First you need to stop the restarts so you can read the BSOD.

Turn off auto restart - right click my computer, properties, left click advanced, and in the startup and recovery section left click the settings button and uncheck the box 'automatically restart'... next time it will blue screen properly, then you make a note of the exact message and post it here.

Second, since the hd's use 2 different controllers, the mobo isn't a prime suspect (new you say?).

Check your temps and voltages during any period where it stays on for a bit.

Check that the cpu heatsink is secure (socket 775 stock units can be hard to seat).

A:Grace period activation expiring very soon-need new key or help

You have a KMS Volume License Key for Enterprise - such Keys require activation at private servers, not at MS's public servers.

From where did you get this Key? You need to contact your System Admin for assistance.

You will lose NO data when it goes out of grace period - but MSE will start a 30day countdown if installed, and cease working at the end.

When I reactivate tomorrow, will everything be there? (Please say yes)

Is there any way of getting in tonight?

Once you activate your copy of XP, everything should be just as you left it.

If you had specialist software, you'd be able to access the data but you'd be limited as to what you could do with it

I have a very similar problem to this person, (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic160500.html) except I am running Windows XP home edition.
I downloaded a file I presumed would be safe, scanned it with Mcafee before opening it and unwittingly installed Total Secure 2009.
My computer then froze up so I had to restart. On restart, I managed to scan using Mcafee and Ad-aware, Mcafee found RemAdm-Generic (C:\windows\system32\LMInit.dll), Ad-aware found a few PuP's I removed.
I then restarted again, and a new account had been created "Admin" and I couldn't open the task manager on other accounts.
I tried to run MBAM, but after 3-4ish minutes the computer logged me out, then froze on the login screen.
Anyone help out? I don't like having to restart every 3-4 minutes

Hello Everyone,
Of course I'm typing this post on my laptop that came pre-installed with vista home premium 32-bit installed on it. A short time ago I stumbled across a site on the internet that offers free software to change older computers that are running older operating systems ( like mine ) into a chromium o.s. that comes installed on newer chromebook computers. At the time I thought this sounded interesting, so I thought I'd try it out. BOY was I wrong for even remotely ever considering it !! I downloaded the transformation software..I followed the installation instructions exactly..( the software MUST be installed via usb drive ). Of course I was informed before I started the procedure that " everything on my hard drive would be deleted ", which at the time didn't bother me. That's where I went wrong..in the fact that I hadn't done a system backup in case something went wrong..which it DID. To keep a long story shorter, I essentially had to start from scratch on my laptop. Anyway, I was FINALLY able to get a copy of vista home premium SP2 32-bit from a forum member in here. Hello Everyone,
I have an on going ATA deployment, where the customer wants to know, the possibility of having the logs / event retained for 1 year and an approximate idea on the impact of storage and any limitations for MongoDB.
As per the ATA sizing tool and article the requirement of ATA center falls in the below specification.

Packets per second from all DCs

CPU (cores*)

Memory (GB)

Database storage per day (GB)

Database storage per month (GB)

IOPS**

400,000

12

96

120

3,600

2,000 (2,500)

So we have a approx. storage requirement of 3.6 TB per month, so how long are the logs/event on ATA center kept by default and can we change the retention period for the same.
Thank you,

Running XP pro Sp2, IE 7 & Mozilla 3.6 8 . Using Mozilla, facebook, farmvile game. Mozilla has the file plugin-container.exe, which taskman shows hogging resources. Out of the blue my pc started the beeping randomly while using mozilla. When I close, no beep since. All other apps are standard, usual and up to date. No new hardware or software. Recent past & some random scroll bar moving by it's self, have not found a fix. That happens on both browsers. Should I remove or disable the plugin-container.exe, & would it affect mozilla & farmville? I read where it suppose to stop the browser from crashing, but it doesn't. Also have virtually the same setup up on another pc routed with this one. Please give me some insight!
If this is the wrong forum, please direct me. Thank You, bikinibeegee

keeps asking for reactivation. does not allow reactivation. I used a registry cleaner. Maybe this is the problem. I have tried a few fixes on other forums. Please let me know what other info I need to share.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers
jimbo
