Update issue.. UEFI firmware issue

Q: Update issue.. UEFI firmware issue

Any suggestions??

Preferred Solution: Update issue.. UEFI firmware issue

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, I have Carbon X1 5th (20HR) running Windows 10 pro (updated).  Altought I followed the instructions here - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cy/en/downloads/ds120390 (This is the page for Lenovo users who wish to update TPM firmware) - and installed the "BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10" version 1.33, Windows still keeps telling me to update the TPM firmware driver.  In BIOS it shows that I have TPM ver 2.0, enabled. Since Windows kept telling me to update the TPM driver, thanks to Google I found out that there is a tool created by Lenovo called "TPM Firmware Update Utility -ThinkPad" (It is worth noting that this tool is not mentioned on the instruction page). I downloaded the tool, but can't understnad how to use it (assuming that I should use it at all, because this tool is not mentioned on the TPM instructions page). Could you please help me to solve the TPM issue described above? Is there a way to check what version do I have? Thanks in advance!

Dear all, having just updated my the firmware of my Ultra Dock (40AJ0135EU) via Lenovo Vantage to V5.0.6.1, there is now something truly wrong with the power supply; on startup, I am greeted by the famous "low wattage" screen and when using windows, the battery is slowly drained (Lenovo Vantage claims that a 25 W USB-C adapter would be connected instead of the 135 W one). The issue never occurred prior to the firmware update and consistently shows up for any other power cable (trying several ones, including 90 W). So while the "low wattage" screen is annoying, the more severe issue is the constantly drained battery which makes using the dock basically impossible over time. Any ideas? I did not find a way to undo the firmware update - or is the recommendation to wait and hope for yet-another firmware update that (may) solve the issue? Maybe someone has a similar issue and a better / working solution Thx!

I am trying to update the UEFI firmware on this laptop as the version it came with seems to be having issues with many operating systems I try out on it. It hangs when booting with the latest version of Linux (4.8 as of writing) which means I am stuck with the LTS banch (4.4 as of writing) and it refuses to boot any other operating system I try out on it. For example, FreeBSD shows a jumbled, unreadable mess after getting past the boot screen. So I looked up the article on the HP website about updating the BIOS and, following the video instructions, I went to the HP Support page and downloaded the BIOS installer for my laptop and placed it on an old desktop I have running Windows (Vista and XP, I tried both). I accepted the license agreement but instead of asking me where I wanted to save the installer files like it says in the video, it showed the following error messages: Error

BIOS did not support InsydeFlash!I have completely removed Windows from this machine and I don't have a copy of Windows 8/8.1/10 so installing through that is out of the question. Hello, For the X1 Yoga 3rd gen, there was a Intel ME firmware update around last week or so, which I applied but now sometimes when I turn on the laptop the laptop 'beeps' and doesn't boot until I power cycle it. Apparently the error code is for a TCG conformity issue. The solution in the PC diagnostics app is to replace the mainboard. Is that the only way?Since it started happening after the last firmware update I thought maybe there are some issues with the update?Does anyone have the same problem? Or a solution already?Otherwise I'll get the mainboard exchanged.

Here is what has been happening, it has stopped responding on simple tasks such as Firefox or even Windows Explorer has stopped responding. I checked the Resource Manager and nothing too weird has been going on like my last computer when it had a similar issue. (Last time it the search indexer went haywire and I had to disable it). The disk highest active time jumps from 1 to 100% a when it starts to freeze, but other than that I don't see any programs that are taking up all the resources or anything.

The only thing I have installed was Planetside 2 a Sony game, and after I uninstalled that completely still no results.

Another forum was having issues with this and they said that their HD firmware was to blame.

I posted the same on their tech support forum but I'm beginning to think the issue, while it may have been exacerbated by the game Guildwars 2, is likely on my end, but I have a number of suggestions, none of which has worked. Also tried my own stuff.
Anyway, here is what I posted on their own tech forum:
Having a lot of issues getting into gw2…I have bits and pieces of problems others have had in the past, but nothing seems to work, so I’m re-downloading the game, basically. All I want to do is play the freaking game, why does it have to be so much trouble?
Once in awhile I will get that blue and yellow graphical glitch on something. Just more info for diagnosis. If and when this happens, it’s always immediately apparent at character select. However…The biggest problem I have with GW2 is also on login – it either crashes or bluescreens my computer right after clicking play and the client tries to load for 5-10 seconds. For the past few days, 90% of the time it just crashes. If I try to patch after that point, the patcher stops at Downloading 0KB and will not budge from it. Not even to log in. I have to reboot my computer to get it past “Downloading 0KB”.
One post I found said that they started having all these problems after downloading a number of games on Steam (which I have done off and on due to a friend getting me a few gifts) , until their HD shrank down to 30 gigs. Same here, an... Read more

I ran Win 8 Upgrade assistant, it said that "Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC", -your PC's firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you wont be able to use it in Win 8.

Is Secure Boot in 8 like Safe Mode in XP?

My PC info is up to date in the drop down on the left.

Upon upgrading I will be installing a Gigabyte GPU, Nvidia Geforce GT630, which is compatible with Win 8.

A new power supply will be upgraded also, Thermaltake TR2 430W

Have a read through this article....

Secure Boot Overview

As far as your hardware...are you installing 2 GPU's? You say you're installing a Gigabyte GPU and a Nvidia.....so which is it? I would start with a minimum of a 500 watt PSU.

There are PSU calculators that will give you an idea of the size PSU you'll need based on the hardware you're installing.

Never have run into "It is old fashioned cursor less one.", can't comment on that.

If it is using Secure Boot it most likely is UEFI. Since it is new it either is properly set up or you need to contact ASUS about getting it fixed.

Hi Techguys

There's uncommon problem been going on with close to be retirement PC as I've did few updates earlier as I rarely used till I need it.

When I turn on the PC since long time and its running as normal and Windows has informed that updates are available for update so I agreed on all update and close down. When next time I load the computer the POST and windows logo booting as normal but after that the resolution of screen looks quite standard than I expected and my keyboard and mouse were unresponsive. I decided to go in Safe Mode and sometimes that failed as same result and after few attempts, it would got in me through. I restored PC back to before update and its running fine till update comes on. Accepted it and its starting doing the same resolution and keyboard / mouse being unresponsive.

This time I have decided to shut the PSU for few sec like 3 second then turn on and then press power button and the PC runs fine, This has been going for few time but now it seems to be back to normal. Im unsure if my computer has this problem ongoing as I plan to put this PC in resignation and setting as KMV switch and using my new built up PC but have concerns for my old PC which is over 10 years but still ongoing and healthy with regularly service same as the cars. (change CPU/Heatsink glue) and keeping dustfree and reguarly maintaining. The Malwarebytes Anti-malware come out all clear.

Any suggestion?

I have an issue with the firmware with XPS 8920(1.0.10) firmware. Im wondering if this is by design or a bug in the firmware!

Ive setup the machine to use legacy mode with Secure boot off, I've set an admin password on the bios. and I've disabled usb boot! now if I use a uefi usb boot disk, it bypasses this security and allows me to boot from it using F12! it shows the usb boot with a * on the menu and i have to type that password to boot from that key BUT is also shows 2 uefi boot usb disks and allows me to boot from this key. I have an optiplex as well which behaves as expected and prevents booting from usb key.

I tried another suggestion using uefi boot with secure boot on and CSM off but I can still boot from a UEFI usb boot key! Am I going something wrong?

I had the issue on my P72 where I couldn't update the Intel ME firmware and I found two different solutions provided by Lenovo employees on these forums and neither worked for me because of a very simple issue within the scripts. They assume there is no space within the path to the current executable file. For example, one of the scripts has  %~dp0pwrtestx64_win10.exe /sleep /c:1 /d:10 /p:30%~dp0FWUpdLcl64.exe -f %~dp0CNP_H_B_Corp_FWU_Base_Production_12.0.35.1427.bin -OEMID 4C656E6F-766F-0000-0000-000000000000 -forcereset but it needs to be wrapped in double quotes to prevent issues where the path contains spaces: "%~dp0pwrtestx64_win10.exe" /sleep /c:1 /d:10 /p:30"%~dp0FWUpdLcl64.exe" -f %~dp0CNP_H_B_Corp_FWU_Base_Production_12.0.35.1427.bin -OEMID 4C656E6F-766F-0000-0000-000000000000 -forcereset Here's a link to the corrected file I made: https://gist.github.com/kylemisner/095932e295e1d0694d6a8b1b1aab63c9 The original file is provided in this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P52-Intel-ME-won-t-update-to-12-0-24-131...

Hi everyone:
My Asus DSL-N11, misbehaves in Wireless mode. I have therefore connected both my laptop and my PC (3 rooms away) by a 30 metre Ethernet cable. This seems to have cured the dropped connections that were plaguing the system, but now I cannot form a Homegroup. Both machines are Windows 7/64 bit: the PC is a newer, FULL o/s copy, the laptop o/s came with it.
PC very recently built, has a Giga GA-EG41MFT-US2H board with a dual core 6400 and 4 Gb DDR3 RAM.
Problems began when I tried to update the Firmware from ASUS UK. The download showed as an Adobe X PDF, but Adobe could not open it. The router was initially installed in a XP machine (no problems with that) which I moved on. I managed to install it under Win 7 on the lappy, and it works with both machines, but after reading the manual I note that only 98,ME,2000, XP & Vista installation instructions are included.
I intend to reset the router and start over with a fresh install. Can I then use the Vista installation to reinstall the router? And will I be able to make a Homegroup?
Thanks to all.

Hi Bertison and welcome

You certainly can use the Vista instructions and installer if you install in compatibility mode.

To do that you simply right click the installer, go to properties, then compatibility. Choose Vista and install.

I recently decided to upgrade the firmware to my Linksys router. Although I wasn't technically experiencing any issues before the upgrade, my previous version did not include WPA encryption like the newest version.

Since I performed the upgrade, my connectivity is lost anywhere between 2 and 6 times a day. I have isolated this issue to the router by directly connection the computer to the cable modem (no problem then persists). Additionally, the WPA encryption never worked. Whenever I applied a WPA PSK, for some reason, the wireless signal would decrease to virtually non-existent.

Do I need to downgrade the firmware? Does anyone know how I go about doing that?

Christmas holidays are coming and I guess a lot of lucky members will get a PSP.

Also, it is not recommanded to upgrade the firmware of your PSP to version 3.1 using the WIFI facility of your console because you can't be sure about the site from where the upgrade is downloaded.
To make sure the upgrade is coming from a Sony official website, it is better to download the upgrade on your computer in a first time and then you may transfer the upgrade via the USB port of your console.

Recently, one of my colleagues got caught with a junk version of upgrade downloaded via the WIFI of his PSP, after installation, the console was unable to restart.

This is not possible because such software is not placed or released on any of Toshiba webpage.

Fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible with all notebooks due to different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Therefore it?s always advisable to contact the ASP in your country or to check the user manual to get the details about combatable drives.

Seems like I?m not the only one with this problem and no answers as I can see in this post:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z510-Battery-Issues/m-p/2248499#M138065 as you can see this post is marked as SOLVED but these is like 14 more pages after that which denies this post as a fix because it DOES NOT SOLVE the problem! Me and lots of other people have this battery issue, battery indicator shows 100% and stuck on that and after like 30 minutes is turns off without dropping 1%. My searches ended up here that I have to use the firmware update program that always say "there are no attached batteries that require a firmware update" so how about a real fix hah???

I have a W541 and it always worked well with the dock and dual external monitors, that is until the firmware was updated by Lenovo System Update to the Latest Version: 2.33.000 about a week ago. Now when you boot the laptop in the dock, the post shows on the two external monitors then they go black and seem to disconnect as the power saving icon shows on both monitors. If you undock the laptop at this point and immediately re-dock, the two monitors light up and no more issues. While this isnt a huge issue, it is very annoying since it always worked properly before the update. Any suggestions on a possible fix are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:windows seve x64 uefi installation issue

Why are you using RAID which greatly complicates things and offers no advantages since Win7 doesn't like it?

Did you create the UEFI installation media using only Option One from UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows ?

Then did you boot the stick as a UEFI device only, delete all partitions during the booted install so that the installer can reformat the hard drive as GPT? UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

Hey guys,

I've installed Windows 8.1 on UEFI mode on my new Samsung 840 Pro.

Everything works REALLY fast which is great, the UEFI boot process is significantly faster than the old BIOS

Problem is, after enabling secure boot in the BIOS, I am getting an error message saying
"System BIOS detected a non-Windows 8 Logo graphic card. There is no GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) support detected in this card. 'Windows 8 feature' settings in BIOS will be changed to 'Disabled'."

I am not very savvy about Secure Boot, but from what I understand I need to get a special UEFI bios for the graphics card in order to get this to work?

My board is an MSI Z77A-GD65 and the GPU is an EVGA GTX680 Superclocked.

P.S. When loading Windows with UEFI enabled I should see the manufacturer's (MSI) logo instead of the Windows logo right? I'm not seeing it but I have definitely installed 8.1 in UEFI mode and my BIOS mode is set to UEFI only so it's definitely working, I assume that it's related to the "Non Windows 8 logo graphics card" error?

A:Secure Boot issue after 8.1 UEFI installation

Curious what happens if you disable Secure Boot? As long as you keep your system clean, check for virus/malware it shouldn't be a problem.

Otherwise, read here: GTX 680 / GTX 590 - UEFI BIOS | EVGA Forums

I am trying to reimage a number of EliteDesk 800's and am using an Offline OSD from SCCM and deploying by booting up from USB and deploying the image from the USB Key as an automated Task Sequence. The image is Win7 64bit Enterprise. The USB keys and Task Sequence are definitely working on a number of other machines but are having a problem with the EliteDesk 800. The task sequence keeps restarting the PC and getting stuck in a loop. I think that it's being cause by the UEFI environment because I see a Win8 start screen for 20 seconds as the machine restarts and before the Task Sequence kicks in again. Picture is attached. I have turned off Secure Boot and disabled UEFI plus enabled legacy boot.Has anyone encoutered a similar issue ?  Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hey everyone,

Have any of you successfully installed Windows 8 with UEFI on a RevoDrive X2 (PCI-E express card)?

Any suggestions?
It starts the installation just fine for the RevoDrive X2 after loading it's drivers, but on first restart it...:

No boot drive found.Manually select to boot from the RevoDrive from the boot menu (F11), and it just restarts the installation again from scratch.

It installs and runs just fine with legacy BIOS (MBR) for the RevoDrive X2.

It also installs and runs just fine with UEFI on an internal SATA2 HDD.
Things I've done:

Bootable Windows 8 USB formatted as FAT32 w/EFI folder in itEnabled wake on PCI-E/PCM in UEFIBooting from USB from boot menu (F11) and not set to always boot from USB.

Sound like a test, I done with old P4 with no Sata ports with Windows 8 DP.
Used a Raid card for Sata, load drivers in setup, started install, at first reboot, went to a reboot loop.

I installed Windows 8.1 (64) with UEFI in my Asus X550L laptop (I refer this forum UEFI USB guide). After the installation I can see 4 partitions. Just like the tutorial mentioned. Once the Windows 8.1 installation completed I try to boot into the UEFI settings menu, but it boot into the BIOS.

In BIOS, when I select "Launch EFI Shell from filesystem device" it shows not found message.

What could be the reason and how to fix this matter?

A:Issue with Asus X550L UEFI settings

The EFI shell is something you don't normally have to invoke. It is probably not even set up to use.

The UEFI settings are accessed through the Bios. What exactly are you wanting to do with the UEFI settings?

The MP3 player contends that it's memory is full, yet it has nothing in its navigational tree. The mp3 device has corrupted before; however, last time it simply froze on one track rendering it impossible to change tracks without the device shutting down. In this instance there are no tracks to attempt to switch to, the only thing that works is the radio.

My solution was simple, reinstall the firmware implementing YP-MT6 updater--just like last time I had an issue. Sadly, the firmware install freezes well under half way through when it says "locking drive[ers?]" it was one of the two.

Anyway to beet this problem? 'Cause I'm at a loss. Not a happy costumer as far as this little samsung is concerned--i figured their phones were great so their other stuff should be too! Ha.

links to costumer service would be great.

Hi, I would appreciate some advice on how to properly use this software as i can not click the Begin upgrading tab. I can load the firmware file, using the 10.0 version i'm trying to update an usb .mp3 player device's firmware but i had no success using this software, it displays no info for the currently installed version. The device is described as Generalplus Sd Device V2, has no integrated upgrade feature and does not function properly therefore i'm trying to perform this upgrade. I also welcome some insight about other software capable of accomplishing this task, tried a few others but could not get them to do it, i have already tried to contact the manufacturer, the drivers appear to be correctly installed, however i'm unaware if it is the right/latest ones, the device shows shows on windows explorer, i'm using 10, and device manager, i'm able to load music onto it, but it does not skip or play, an error message appears, i would appreciate if i could get advice on drivers to use with this, i tried setting a folder structure but the error persists, it did not come with a manual, from what i could understand it's an S1 device and i have obatined a firmware file for it that displays it's info on Rdiskupdate, i have what i suppose to be Winusb device drivers for an actions device, i would also appreciate if i could understand if they can modified to work with the one mentioned and if i might have to edit the .ini file for the softwar... Good afternoon. I have several ThinkCentre M92p computers and these have been upgraded to Windows 10. I ran Intel's SA-00086 utility and they need to have the Security Update installed on them. I checked in Lenovo support and there isn't a Windows 10 version of the update. There is a Windows 8.1 version available and I'm pretty sure that installing the Windows 8.1 update would work but before I potentially hose the computers in Finance and Operations I thought I'd check to make sure it'll work. So, will the Windows 8.1 update work on my ThinkCentres running Windows 10?  Thanks, Joe B
