Solved: Giant Type on Webpages

Q: Solved: Giant Type on Webpages

Okay, it's BIGGER than I want now! LOL

I've been trying to make print easier to read since I got WinsXP SP2, but now I've messed around where I shouldn't be and have ended up w/GIGANTIC print on websites such as this one. (Much bigger than the type you're probably seeing here.)

I was fooling around in Ctrl Panel and reset some size options. I thought I was in device mgr, but can't retrace my steps...but I was DEFINETLY somewhere in the Ctrl Panel.

Can anyone help? Thanks, Fox

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I haven't used it in a very long time so I've forgotten...

But what is the code that you type in the browser right before the webpages address to check to see when it was last updated?

I don't know whether it is javascript or just html. Any help would be great. Thanks.

A:What to Type in Browser to Check Webpages Update?

I don't know about a code, but you can use http://web-sniffer.net/ to check the date last modified.

I made a similar post recently but didn't have my logs uploaded- logs included this time. I had a lot of trouble getting the GMER log- twice the PC restarted while running the scan. This time I booted in safe mode and ran it while I was out. Hopefully it includes everything. Saturday morning I was infected with AVE.exe/XP Security Center. It was difficult but I managed to get rid of it. Since then I have apparently picked up new viruses/trojans OR the original problem was not fixed after all. My current problem is that, if I try to right click on say- some Yahoo search results, and select "open in new tab," then instead of the selected page I get redirected to seemingly random other pages. I can work around the problem by instead selecting "copy link location" and pasting the URL into a new tab, but obviously there is some kind of malware I need to get rid of. I have updated today and run the following programs to deal with this- Avast 5.0, Malwarebytes, Spybot SD, CWShredder, and Ad Aware. They have all found items they didn't like and neutralized them, but the problem persists. I have also downloaded the newest HiJackThis and run a scan and saved a log file, which I can post on request. I do not know the name of the hijacker/malware I am dealing with. One note- I have also intermittently been getting pop-ups saying "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." I don't think thi... Read more

Hi there

I'm a sucker for these strategy sim games, so I bought Hotel Giant, (Sold Out Range). I have installed it successfully but it won't run.

It looks like it's about to start, and then just jumps back to the desktop and nothing else happens. It does not crash and I don't get any error messages.

I have written to the support team but they never bothered to answer, so I'm stumped.

You guys are always so cool at helping me out, so was hoping you could help me get the game to run instead of it just jumping back to the desktop.

Thanks again

Meg, Scotland, UK

Okay, I unticked the compatibility option altogether, and the game started, it got to starting the tutorial then froze and jumped back to the desktop. So i'm back to square one. Still no error messages.

Hi, I have pop up error message Unable to cast object of type 'System.Boolean' to type 'System.String'" comes up every time windows 7 started...
So I check the msconfig if some start up software has error but I couldn't find anything.
I unchecked all start up application and reboot it but still have error message.
So I go event viewer then I found the error happened in the same time I start up the windows 7 so this might be the one.
This is info for error I got.

Log Name:Application
Source WMI
Event ID 10
Level : error
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Is there any way to fix this error so that pop up error might stop??
Thank you!

I am not sure what is wrong with my computer. It has been acting funny for weeks but Avira can't seem to fix it. My Google searches keep being redirected to incorrect website (unless I use the cached version) and randomly web pages open up on their own. These pages aren't blocked by my pop up blockers and I believe its because they open up as a web page not a pop up. They are usually those fake news articles that use the logo off of websites like Good Morning America, WWAM news etc talking about some miracle remedy or get rich quick scheme. When I try to X out of the page a series of pop-ups come up saying "if I close this page I will lose out on my chance, Click OK to close or cancel to remain on this page". If I click OK another one pops up continuing to try to convince me to stay and so on. I use task manager to end the window instead up that closes all of the pages I have open at the time. Reading through other Bleeping computer forums I see that it is commonly recommended that users with similiar issues download an app RKUnhookerLE.exe and post a log. I did that but don't know what they mean. I'm posting the log below.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 7500 Laptop and have run into a problem. When I first logged on to the internet, I noticed that my homepage of MSN.com was too big instead of it's original size. I went to other websites and found the same problem. It's even happening on this website. My screen display is set to 1024X768 pixels so my desktop and the items on my desktop are not affected. I ran each of the programs on the desktop and did not find any problems. I did a virus scan, ad-aware, spybot and every other hijacking program but with no luck. This problem is occuring ONLY when I run the internet and nothing else. Oh yeah. I'm not recieving any error messages.

I have recently installed my own Apache webserver and everything seems to be going fine. The DNS is setup and working and pages do indeed publish to the web. Everyone can view them... except me! Yes, I can see my pages using http://localhost:8000/pagename.htm but once I try to view using http://www.domain.com/pagename.htm Firefox then returns "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at domain.com:8000." (Verizon blocks port 80 so I have redirected to port 8000.) Also using IE I get the standard "The page cannot be displayed" error. On that IE error page it details how to change your LAN Settings to automatically detect. I have tried that also with no success. The same errors are also returned when I disable both PeerGuardian and my software firewall. My router's firewall is always disabled. Is there anyone that can offer some insight into this problem? It's nice that my server is working but frustrating that I cannot view my pages properly.

I have no issues when it comes to having a internet connection but when trying to open a webpage with IE It says cannot display webpage. I tried the diagnose connection problems on the webpage and when I go through all the options it says Windows cannot connect to internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP this is probably caused by firewall settings.

I am also having trouble getting some programs to work such as Highjackthis, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, which is disabling me from sending a highjackthis log with the post or determining if there is some type of virus even though trend says there is no virus.

The internet connection problem is limited to only the user accounts. Under Administrator in safemode I am able to pull up webpages but the programs I try to install still do not work.

Recently my computer has started displaying giant pixels anytime I want to start up a computer game like The Sims or Trickster. For a while I thought it was just 3-d games that were not working but then I tried playing a 2-d pixel game, and I had the same problom, here is a screen cap of what I am talking about.

The computer that I am running is a eMachines T3256.
It has a nvidia GeForce 4 MX graphics card.
Is there anyways that I could fix this with buying a nother card, or downloading something, or will I have to take my computer in to someone to fix it?

A:Giant pixels, I need help

Re The Sims (original?) - your card should be able to play that

Re Trickster - your card doesn't support DX8 for 1.1 pixel shaders so probably cannot play that

Re the pixel problem - uninstall your present nVidia dtrivers in Add/Remove programs, reboot, and install the latest drivers.

edit: if the l;atest drivers don't fix it, uninstall them and try one of the 53.xx series - they apparently could, with hardware assisted software emulation, support vertex shader model 1.1.

When I add an attachment, the image appears huge to the receiver. How do I reduce the size of the image.

A:giant images

Hi carol, you would need to reduce the image size in a graphics program, like Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro. Adobe Photoshop is rather expensive, but Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro are arouns $100. There are free image editors out there, I just don't know the names of them, try going to http://www.download.com and look under the graphics section and there should be some editors there you could either download for free or atleast get a free trial to see if you like them. Hope I have helped.

I run Chrome 7.0 as a browser and today the webpages have some squares where there should be text. I've attached a screenshot.
I often correspond with Korean students and if they have typed something in their own language (using Korean software) I'll get this in the emails but I've never seen it on webpages before and I have no idea why it is suddenly happening. I don't use Korean software and I have no recollection of changing anything on Google Chrome which might have started this.

I DID look at Gears for GMail yesterday, because I wanted to know what they were and if they would be of any use to me but I couldn't find a sensible explanation and (as far as I know) didn't change anything and why would that affect the browser? But I add it here just in case it gives you a clue.

Any help would, as always, be very much appreciated.

PS: I have looked at previous problems here that people had with squares but none of them seem to be like mine.
When I went to attach the .doc file with the screenshot, all the buttons had squares instead of text but I worked it out - I hope

A:Solved: Squares instead of text on webpages

You have marked this thread solved. If this was intentional and is correct, please post the solution that you found so that others can benefit. If incorrect, please Click the Mark Unsolved button at the top of the thread until a real solution is found. This means that other helpers are more likely to notice this question and find a solution.

Also, the screenshot hasn't appeared. Not easy to pick the right set of perfectly identical boxes I suppose.

Hey guys Ive got a Aspire 3620 and im trying to install my wireless internet through a DLink 524+RevE and my card will connect and I have full bars, but i cannot load any webapges, nor the router webpage (ie 192.168.0.1). This i extremely annoying as I am now tied to an ethernet cord. Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Not getting any webpages to load - wireless

If you have encryption enabled, try w/o encryption until you get a successful session.

First determine if the problem PC is really communicating with the router when it claims to be connected.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run – cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting. Following is how to use ping to test for communication with your router, the internet, and the internet with symbolic name.

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

IF you got replies,
2. ping 66.94.234.13 (or any other internet address you know)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got replies,
3. ping www.yahoo.com (or any other internet name)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

Hello.
I have been having some problems with my Acer Aspire One Netbook and my home wireless network connection. Netbook says it's connected to wireless and signal is strong, but webpages either don't load, or load partially(text only, or parts missing) but very slowly. Netbook connects fine to wireless network other places (work, parent's house) and pages load perfectly! But at home is where I have the problem. Any suggestions? I'm not great at computers, so any "plain english" instructions would be especially helpful! thanks in advance!

hi everybody...
i have always to use Refresh ONCE to open any webpage using ie or firefox
The first time the page isn't displayed as if there is no internet connection(no response)
Then I try again, like refresh or something and the page opens
But once a website is opened and i want to open it again, it opens directly...

I guess it may be some update i took on the windows update but i'm not sure...
Any clue?

TODAY, I HAD TO REFRESH TWICE AND NOT JUST ONCE EVERY WEBPAGE IN ORDER FOR IT TO OPEN...
Now, it's more than 5 refreshes but it depends from site to site

Technical:
If i try to repair my local area connection, it stops at: Clearing NetBT
And if i try to connect to messenger, there's apparently a DNS problem...

Sorry but i found the solution on the site by doing a search concerning this NetBT clearing problem... I couldn't do it first because i didn't knew about it until later... so sorry again to have asked an already existing question... but i didn't knew

Hi there

When browsing using IE8 on realestate webpages I am being asked to Debug the webpage.

The debug script mentions Jscript Debugger and that an expected object wasn't found.

I subscibe to the realestate site and need to log in to save searches etc. I find I can log in ok then after viewing a few pages I'm logged out.

I have posted on Spyware Warrior under the now closed topic: Browsers giving "Debug this page" requests.

They have checked the DDS log and can find no spyware etc and suggested I talk to you.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated

Gordon

A:[SOLVED] Being asked to Debug webpages

Script debugging is not for you to do as an end user. The Jscript Debugger is used by the site developer along with other tools. You can open and use it (Shift+F12) but my suggestion is to notify the site proprietor (the real estate group) and see if they have a fix. It could be they made the site IE9 compatible but possibly another browser i.e. Firefox, Chrome or Opera might do the trick.

hello

ive reinstalled my windows and all my old programs, but ive found that IE7 doesnt have a freshly updated webpage when i visit it. For example, if i go to google news, it loads yesterdays information.

When i choose to go to a website it loads real fast; exactly like i made the page available offline.

The only way to update the page is to click refresh, and now everything is updated. Its really annoying because i have to click refresh for every page just to get an updated page.

Ive used IE7 and my internet was fine; the pages were updated automatically when i chose to view it.

How do i fix this?

Thanks

I have two computers connected to a D-Link DI-624 router. My ISP is Comcast and it goes through a Motorolla modem. Computer A is running Windows XP and can access all webpages. Computer B is running Windows XP x64, and can not access certain webpages (ex: 1up.com). My PSP can connect wirelessly to all webpages. The problem I am trying to solve, obviously, is why Computer B is not connecting to some webpages.

Both computers use the latest version of FireFox, but the problem exists in IE as well.

The first test was to ping the remote IP. That came back fine with no failure.

After checking with my router manufacturer, it was suggested that I change my MTU setting on the router to 1452. I did that, and I got back one of my pages (sonystyle.com), but I'm still missing others. I tried other settings I found on the Net (like 1400, 1454, 1480, and 1492) with no change to the situation. The manufacturer concluded that because my other computer and PSP have no issue connecting, it isn't the router. I tend to agree.

I have a static IP set up for all devices, and I'm connecting directly to the Internet. My FireWall is off, and I have no virus or spyware issues. The only difference I see with the machines, is the Computer A is running XP and Computer B is running XP x64.

I read a previous thread on a similar issue, and the solution was to clear out the HOSTS file. I checked my file, and there is nothing in there to suggest these websites are being blocked. As you can ... Read more

I would like some advice.......I was advised on this bulletin board to download "GoBack" to help if I had any problems, which I did, but ended up having a few problems with it, so using the add/remove progams deleted it.
I use IE5 and can connect to ntl homepage fine. When I try to connect to other web pages, this is where the problem starts. I can connect to Tech Support Website no probs. But when I try some other websites, I get the error page come up. I try refresh and wait for the loading line at the bottom to complete, it gets about half way and then starts again. It is taking ages to load web pages, if they load at all. In the bottom left hand corner of IE it says "connecting to *******(numbers)" but it doesn't connect straight away. When the error page came up last I clicked on "Detect Network Settings", it started to do so, but still remained on the error page. Anyone got any advice as to what to do????

Hi all, very strange problem here!

My friend has a laptop - Dell Inspiron 6400, Windows XP
Up until last week everything was working fine, but all of a sudden his web browsers stopped working. IE, Firefox and Opera - none of them will load a webpage, but none of the troubleshooters detect any problems with the connection. The connection itself is working fine for everything else - MSN messenger, Skype, Google Earth etc.
The problem is with both wired and wireless connections so it doesn't appear to be hardware related. There are no IP conflicts, pinging works fine (local IPs and websites), latest drivers for everything as far as I can tell. I've reinstalled/reset settings on the 3 browsers to no avail and performed the /netsh reset commands I've seen on other threads, no luck.

The only antivirus/firewall he has running is Avast but it's set to low security and there are no blocked ports/programs.
The strangest thing of all is that when you go into Google Earth and click on one of the Wikipedia icons the page opens fine in the embedded browser, and from there, you can browse the internet without any problems! If you click on the button for it to open the page in an external browser however, the same problem. Very odd!

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You can also change what pop-ups are allowed by going to Internet Options > Privacy > Pop-up Blocker Settings. Personally, I block all pop-ups and then whitelist any sites that I want to allow pop-ups from (or CTRL click links to open in a new window and bypass the pop-up blocker manually).
