Text and Mouse Input Even when not Connected!!!

Q: Text and Mouse Input Even when not Connected!!!

Hi everyone,
I need your help with this strange and randomly occurring problem. Here is a video of the problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fm0fhgrsw4rawco/20130331_1135...

Mouse: Microsoft Sidewinder X8
Keyboard: Alienware Tact X
OS: Windows 7 64bit

As you can see keyboard and mouse input is given without me pressing anything and even after I unplug them. To fix this I have gone to "update device drivers" and uninstalled then reinstalled them twice. I have scanned my entire system for viruses. I do not want to reinstall the OS. Resetting the system does not fix it forever. There is no KVM switch and remote access programs are not running. What can I do? Please help it has gotten much worse lately, rendering my computer unusable! Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I think I have narrowed it down to on mouse movement that text input fields fill with %E?;E?+E? or %%E; or different variations of those characters followed by ENTER... I think!?!?
I removed all other languages from the keyboard settings in windows, and turned off the hotkeys for switching languages, this didn't help.
The next step was to swap out the Logitech keyboard/mouse combo with a ps2 keyboard and usb mouse and uninstalled logitech's setpoint software thinking that might be the problem.
It wasn't.
Not sure what steps to take next.
BTW, it doesn't matter what program is open...

Thanks for any help

A:On mouse movement text input fields auto fill with %E?;E?+E?

Maybe take a look in device manager to see if any of Logitech's drivers are still in use, if it is, uninstall them.

I am running genuine windows xp sp3. Installed ie8 a few days ago but this morning most of my text input fields have shrunk to an extremely small size and the text itself is about as big as a pixel. I cant see what I am typing. Some sites are OK and others are not.
Has anyone experienced this or can offer any suggestions.

So my friend has a problem with his computer.
This weekend the screen blacked out and when it came back all of his input text went invisible. For example all text in notepad is invisible until highlighted, URLs in Chrome are invisible until highlighted, drive and folder names are invisible until highlighted, all searches in the start menu are invisible and the search text as well.
We have tried some basic troubleshooting but the problem persists. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

A:All input text invisible

Have you tried the basic Windows troubleshooter for the video function...in the Help menus?
Have you run the dx diagnostic tool?
Sounds like possibly failing video card, IMO.

I'm running Windows 7 on a several-month old Compaq laptop. I don't believe specifics really matter. Anyway, about a week ago, a pretty annoying issue popped up. After having the computer on and doing anything for an hour or two, all programs begin to hang whenever I try to type any text within them. This is includes FireFox, IE, Word...any program. Really. I'll have to force quit them when they hang, yet if I start them again and try to type within them, they hang again. I'll have to restart in order to do anything involving typing. What should I do about this? I've never heard or seen anything like it. I've always browsed safely with Adblock and NoScript, I have an AV (Avast) and Firewall always active. I really doubt its a virus though, because my laptop came with a special hard drive partition that allows restoring to the entire HD's factory default. I've done this after the hanging problem popped up, yet the hanging still shows up after over an hour or two of use without restarting. I also doubt its defective hardware, since it never started doing this before last week, and I've been using this for a few months. I'm stumped. Please help me!

have you tried safe mode and see if it happens?
you may also check your system logs and see for any hint.

I have the settings shown in the attached file. I believe the second Kyeboard is installed by my app "Keyboard Layout Manager". However, I want to start from scratch, and go back to only one keyboard (and reinstall KLM). But I can only delete keyboard US, not keyboard Hans. I feel I should be able to delete either one of them, even if I have to leave one 'active'. Any comments on that?

Also, is there any way to change the names of "US" or "Hans". I cannot see any way to do this here. Maybe somewhere else?

Hans L

A:Text services and Input Languages

You cannot remove / uninstall the default input language. At the moment you have your own modified layout English (United States) - Hans as default, that's why it cannot be removed.

Change the default to English (United States) - US, click Apply, then remove English (United States) - Hans.

I input data to forms a great deal and would like to know if there are ways in which to speed up this process? Particularly, I would like to know if there are any apps that allow you to enter often-used bits of text with one or two keystrokes, or just a few keys pressed together.

I have googled for this but had no joy.

Thanks in advance.

A:Increase text input speed

AutoHotkey works very well for this type of task.

Go to the site, download and install the software, then go here http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/Tutorial.htm, read through the tutorial and write a few simple scripts to get familiar with how it works.

I don't understand why this is happening, I've reset my browser MULTIPLE times and I've also tried to upgrade to IE9 but it fails during installation. This is very irritating as I have a lot of forms to fill out every day for college and I can't even read what I'm writing.

Edit: Not every textbox does this. For example the search engine on this website does not do it and the textbox I am typing in now does not do this. It seems like anything in a form does this.

Edit 2: I've noticed that drop down menus are the same, it's almost like the font has a superscript html tag for some reason.

A:Textbox input text VERY small

I wonder if you have the same problem with entering text in the box you used to type your question. Is the problem only with text entry boxes in browser windows and not with other programs like Windows Explorer (for files not for the internet).

I'm surprised resetting the browser doesn't help since the default options are correct for most of us. However there appears to be a workaround:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...3-052c2aa71f72 .

I'm about to finish this school project, a game in flash, and I am kind of stuck. It's all about getting this code, and once you get it, you win. Now, personally, I think the code cracking thing:

http://www1.edexcel.org.uk/dida-0906-d202/links/code.swf (code is 123456789)

.. the project website have provided us with is rather pathetic, and my teacher has given me permission to make my own one.

And I have no idea how to. I know how to make text to be written in, but I don't understand the script needed. Like, I want one set of letters to lead to one frame, and anything other than those letters to lead to another frame. Someone from another forum provide me with:

if ( txtbox.text == "whatever" ) {
gotoAndStop( "frame" );
} else {
gotoAndStop( "other frame" );

.. but I don't understand how to get it to work. Something about where it says txtbox, the varaible name of the input text should have the same. I don't understand .. can someone please help me?

Thanks a lot.

I'm having some very wierd problems...
For certain app's (mainly all microsoft) I can't enter text into certain areas. For example, I opened IE and wanted to search something using google, but I can't enter any text into the Google search box!

I realised that I also can't enter text into windows messenger to login (email address and password). So its more of a problem than just IE. Its actually a windows problem - must be something wrong with the windows system.
I don't have a clue what the difference is with the input box on a web form and the address bar in the browser (as the address bar works fine, I can enter a URL no problems, I just can't enter stuff into forums and google etc....)

A:Very strange text input problem

when writing text in a Gmail sometimes I must have accidently pressed some button to cause this glitch.
When I move my cursor to a mis-spelled word to correct it, instead of the cursor positioning in between 2 letters it highlights one of the letters. If I then delete that letter the highlight goes to the following letter so that when I add the correct letter the following letter is deleted and so on. If I then add that letter the next letter is deleted!  If the correction is needed in the middle of a long email then Oh!
I can continue OK from the end of the text but I have to leave that glitch behind unless I retype all from that point and make sure I don't make any more mistakes.
In this text here there is no problem so it appears only in Gmail. If I bring up a new Compose the glitch remains. I'm using Win 7 but it has happened before in XP.  I've tried pressing all the function buttons (Ctrl, Alt, Esc etc.) in combinations to no avail.
Perhaps only a reboot fixes it but that's a long way round.  Any help please.

A:Gmail text input glitch - how to cure?

You may have accidentally pressed the Insert key (found just above the Delete key)  Press it just once then write a "test" email containing misspelled words and make a correction.  Did that help?
Another thing to consider would be using the GMail spell check options:

A:Feed input to program using text file in windows???

Well...I'm no programmer...but I've always thought that you need to know source code, etc. before modifying/updating any program.  I mean...it's not like there is one standard way to write a program unless things have changed from the eons ago when I played with dorporate financial forecasting programs in the 70s.
Additionally...many programs reflect caveats which indicate that no attempt will be made to modify the product, moreso (I imagine) if the program is a "for cash" program.
You might actually get a more knowledgeable, valid answer...if you post in the BC Programming Forum.

I have an input mask on field (txt result) on form to allow only digits, input mask e.g. #99.
The problem is that the field datatype is text in the table.

This is field (txtresult) is reused on other forms to collect data that is also text - so I cannot change the datatype to number.

Problem is that they are able to add - or + in this field with input mask. Is this because it is a text field? Is there a way to change the datatype in code?

A:input mask for datatype text hat allows only digits in a textbox

I don't know what you're trying to do, and I'd hate to inherit it, but it sounds like the application's behaving correctly given the input mask

#99The initial # accepts a space, a digit, a plus, or a minus. If you want a 1- to 3-digit unsigned number use

999as the input mask.

I'm having a font issue and after much reading I haven't found a solution
yet. I'm using IE7 on Vista. The text I see on a webpage looks fine. The text
I see on menu bars/address bars/search bars, also looks fine. What I'm having
trouble with is anything that I have to "input" on a webpage. It's too small
to read and it appears to be a strange font. For example, when I log into an
account my username and password appears too small to read while I'm typing
it. It's very bothersome as you can't tell if you've typed something
correctly or not. They're are a couple of instances where it shows up that
way on a page somewhere but it "always" does it in any field in which I have
to "input" data.

My view: text size is set to "Medium" and changing this has no affect on
these fields. It only changes to text that appears on webpages. I did make
one discovery though. When I change the "encoding" from Unicode (UTF-8) to
Western European it seems to fix the problem (my input text shows up
normally) but it's only temporary. As soon as I reload, visit another page,
or open another window it reverts back to Unicode (UTF-8) and the problem
returns. I've tried using the "Auto Select" after switching but I get the
same result.

I am running IE7 on my other machine with WinXP and I don't have this
problem. View: text size is set to medium and the encoding is Unicode (UTF-8)

Hello everyone,

I apologize for the strange title, but basically I ran into a very strange occurance the other day. A user was sitting at their computer without touching the keyboard (and with Speech Recognition off as far as I can tell [it had not been configured]) and words were spewing out onto their Powerpoint presentation. These words formed nonsensical statements and sentences. It first showed up as ellipsis that had a blue highlight over them that shortly changed over to words.

Suggestions as to what this could be? Also, it's Office 2003 (Powerpoint in particular) on Windows XP Pro.

Okay, this is a new problem for me. I have a windows 7 computer that I got second hand from a computer repair place. It's a new install, but not genuine apparently. All this computer is used for is surfing the net on a large monitor/watching netflix/hulu/youtube.

So, had a few bsod problems with netflix and similar, but nothing big, until monday. On monday, it suddenly wouldn't take any input from the mouse after the first few clicks. Sunday night it worked fine, the most recent change was an installation of dvd decrypter on friday. However, monday it will load up, allow me to click past the "not genuine" screen, and maybe click one or two more things, then any time I click above the taskbar, there is no response. The weirdness is that I can do anything from the taskbar. Open/close new programs, access the windows menu, etc. But if I click an open window, it deselects it, like I had clicked an empty portion of desktop. This also occurs if I click an icon on the desktop. The keyboard works fine, and it's part of a wireless set.

I tried cold-booting it, and a new mouse, neither worked.

Finally, I did a system restore to about 3 days ago. This seemed to restore complete functionality. However, I just found out from my wife that its' exhibiting similar symptoms-- she will go to netflix and everything will work fine, until she got to the page where something was playing, at which point it wouldn't accept commands again.

I am currently experiencing a similar problem with the Demo version. I have previously been able to play with no problems, until recently. I had changed nothing in the menu's, nor changed my mouse/keyboard/joystick or any drivers.
Originally, i was having the exact same problem, so i tried an un-install/re-install to see if this would fix the problem, now however, i can use my keyboard, but my mouse still refuses to respond while trying to select a spawn point.

Hi, I'm using the (painfully slow) keyboard to use my cursor as my computer disconnected my USB mouse when I woke up the computer a couple of days ago and hasn't accepted mouse input since. This particular mouse works fine on my laptop, as do the other two (wireless) mice that I tested. My wacom tablet is also unable to affect the cursor.

I tried deleting all drivers from the USB and mouse sections of the device manager and a hard restart, no change.

I checked the bios and it seems to say that usb is being recognized. I can still use the ports to charge my phone and they light up my wacom and wireless mouse, just don't accept input.

I'm having a problem with the interactions between the mouse and keyboard and the computer. When using the scroll wheel, the webpage that I'm viewing will begin to zoom in and out. Clicking the scroll wheel usually fixes the issue. Sometimes I will left click to open a shortcut and receive the properties box, so in order to open anything I have to right click and use the open option. Sometimes clicking on anything will result in the File option opening at the cursors location and refuse to leave, instead just flickering. Keyboard works for awhile and then refuses to respond correctly, opening dialog boxes, not responding, etc.

Reinstalled all drivers, rebooted system, cleaned the inside of the computer, tried other mice and keyboards all with the same effect.

My mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Optical "Blue" mouse that I purchased for my old system around 2000-01.

I believe I installed the latest driver available when I got the Gateway, and I just replaced the batteries (just in case), and still the mouse seems to be a bit sloppy. I've heard that some monitors, especially non-TN monitors have an issue of "input lag." Do I just have to live with it, or does anyone know of a remedy? Is it the old mouse?

Thanks. Iggy

A:Solved: New monitor = input lag from old mouse?

Hi again. I never like to leave any of my posts unresolved. Just so you know, I found the solution to this problem myself. It is true that non-TN panels will have more input lag than TN panels and you can't change that; however, there may be other variables that you can control to reduce the lag to an acceptable level.

I really did not want to go back to a corded mouse. That would have helped. But I need my freedom, man! Enter the "Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical" mouse. It has 1100dpi optical scanning as opposed to the 400dpi of my older mouse. That's all I needed. I was half-expecting that I would have to go to the more expensive laser mice, and I would have too, but I always liked the simplicity of my old mouse, and I couldn't find a similar laser one.

This Logitech mouse did the trick. It originally retailed for $60, but I got it new for $10 after rebates. What a country!

I hope I'm not wasting your time here, as I'm not positive this is a virus/malware/keylogger/whatever issue, but I came here knowing you're all knowledgeable in this and hoping you could at least cross this as an issue off the list. Recently I've had issues (I've actually only played Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins to test this) with my input being lagged or delayed, not sure how to put it. Basically, if I'm standing still looking around, everything is fine, however, when I start moving my character, once I release the button (whether it be the movement keys or the mouse button while looking around) it carries on for anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds. I've tried many different game/performance things, such as Vsync and Mouse Smoothing etc. Anyways, I'm STILL waiting on the RootRepeal to finish (boy this has taken all day), but I'm hoping the DDS may lead to something while I wait. Thanks in advance.

*EDIT* I added a HijackThis log for a bit more info until this RootRepeal is done.

Hi everyone,

I recently got a used Dell mouse from an old school auction of old PC parts that still work, but they don't need anymore. I picked up an old mouse, and when I tried to plug it into my PC, and let W7 install the drivers, the system works downloading and installing the drivers for a minute or two, until I get a BSOD error. I know the mouse works, because I tried it on a different PC with W7 Ultimate 64 bit (same as my PC) and it worked fine.

I've attached my .zip file with all the needed files, and would really appreciate my help seeing as my current mouse looks like it's on it's way out. If you need any extra info, please post here, and I'll try and get the info for you.

Hello there!

Seems like the dump files doesn't point to your Mouse driver though it could the reason for the crashes. I found few really out-dated drivers that needs to be updated.

Enable Driver Verifier Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers and post us with the updated dump files.

Update the following drivers:

I am trying to reuse a old HP Compaq machine as a CCTV server using iSpy: Open Source Camera Security Software.

Whenever I boot up the machine, everything is normal, UNTIL I get to the (Windows 9x style) login page, when mouse and keyboard do not work.

The keyboard works fine in the BIOS, but the mouse can't be tested.

I have a Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1a CD.
The OS on the HP is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.

I am without broadband, using a dongle to rely on for internet, so ISOs and torrents are a big no no.

This is using a wireless keyboard and a wired mouse, both USB. As I said above, the keyboard works fine in the BIOS. Both keyboard and mouse work on a Windows 8.1 machine, so I know it is the computer's problem.
Any ideas? Thanks,

UPDATE : Found "HP Restore CD", but the computer does not recognise it. BIOS says "No IDE drive found"

Hello all,

I'm having some mouse problems, and I've read some relevant threads (ie http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-6116-Mouse-Behavior.html). However, i'm not sure if the same applies. Here's a little of what I have: description to follow.

XP Pro
I have a Kensington wireless mouse plugged into the machine's usb port
PS/2 Keyboard
A cheap cool-i drawing tablet (in usb hub)
AMD 2.4 Gs
1/2 gig mem
Via motherboard (will lookup chipset if needed)
Nvidea 64 meg card
40 gig hd
and crdrw etc

Here's the issue. I aquired a new Kensington mouse, intelligently plugged in both that and my PS/2 mouse because I didn't know if I liked the new Kensington. It flaked out, causing erratic mouse movement, gliches in cursor glide, then kaput. Well, I know that I'm able (although not recommended) to have two mice. So I unplugged the Kensington and continued without a glitch using my old trusty rodent. Then came along my graphics tablet. It's pretty cheap, nothing fancy. I plugged it in, first to my usbhub, then directly into the port. The same problem as having two mice. I replaced the PS/2 mouse with the kensington, again (just for giggles). The mouse works fine, now. Plug in the tablet and the same tune plays. I have not yet tried just the tablet without the mouse (come to think of it). Should i completely avoid this type of set up, or is there a problem outside the user (be kind, i'm admitting stupidity).... Read more

Thank you all for your public service. It's great that for every scumbag who decides to irresponsibly unleash his work on the internet there is an expert willing to invest his/her time to assist in eliminating it. Now that the preamble is finished--on to the problem. First, please let me explain in as much detail as I can what happened.

Around 3 weeks ago, my machine contracted some really bad malware. This immediately became apparent when Firefox began involuntarily visiting random web sites around every 10 seconds. In addition to this, install boxes would appear asking me to agree to install anti-virus software. I can't remember the exact names. One of them was Rapid Antivirus 2008. To make matters worse, I found that I could no longer visit certain websites, specifically, the usual anti-malware sites and the tech forums, nor could I update any of my antimalware programs. Whatever I had was trying to block me from accessing any tech support sites. I circumvented this by visiting Google's cached web pages for advice, and using mirror sites instead of main sites to download software. While I was able to enter Safe Mode, I was unable to do so with Networking turned on.

The process of eradicating most of the infection was lengthy. I began by downloading Malware bytes and running a full scan, which, though finding quite a few infections, was unsuccessful in eliminating the entire infection. I also downloaded Spyware Doctor and SuperAntispyware ... Read more

I have an older dual core Windows 7 pc that I have been using as a file server. It worked fine until recently, when it started having little "freeze attacks". In Windows Explorer, when I would click on a file or folder, it would freeze up for a few seconds, then free up. If I then clicked on the folder again, it would highlight. When I would click on a different folder, it would freeze up again for a few seconds, then free up and allow me to click the folder. When frozen, the mouse pointer would still move around, but clicking on anything had no response. I should also point out that when I re-booted it, it would freeze at the Windows logo (all motion would stop) for several minutes, then would continue booting into Windows.

I wasn't sure if this was Windows 7, hard drive, or other hardware issue, but I have a faster pc to take over the file server role, so thought I would re-build it and see if that solved the problem. I formatted a different hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on it from scratch. However, at the end of the install, when it re-booted to start into windows, it froze at the windows logo (logo stopped moving). I waited for 2 or 3 minutes, but nothing happened. I left it for a while and came back to discover that it was at the screen prompting for new user name, etc. I tried to continue, but when I type about 2 characters, it will freeze for 15 or 20 seconds. Then I can type two more characters, and it will freeze again. I can't even get the thing ful... Read more

My optical mouse (USB) that I've used since day one on my month-old computer in place of the supplied PS/2 mouse began to fail last night. I replaced it with the PS/2 model, and it worked fine. I put the computer into hibernation, bumped the mouse as I got up, and it returned from hibernation. Weird. After checking all the background processes and power options and finding nothing new or unusual, tried a System Restore, with no change. I hooked up the optical mouse again, and it didn't return from hibernation with mouse movement. I thought I'd just get a new optical mouse and forget about the experience. After declaring my problem solved, tonight out of curiosity I hit a key on the PS/2 keyboard, and lo and behold, it returned from hibernation again. I now remember the computer starting up from hibernation the day after I got it, and I'm sure I probably elbowed the keyboard. It's definitely in hibernation and not standby, I've compared the two states and standby is much quicker. I know you can return from standby with mouse or keyboard input, but I've never heard of being able to do so in hibernation. I even used msconfig to disable all the Acer Empowering Technology startup processes to see if that changed the behavior. It d... Read more

Hi.So as the title states, I'm having a problem with mouse/keyboard input.  Occasionally (usually if I'm doing something that puts the CPU under load, not necessarily full load, but under load.), my keyboard and mouse will get this delay where if I press a key or press a mouse button, the computer doesn't seem to register it until a second or two later.  It will normally happen now and again in short bursts, not really something that happens consistently and continuously for a long and extended period of time.(Okay, so I'm gonna put the problem into a small list, since it's a little easier for me this way)>Pressing a button on the keyboard or mouse, the computer will not do anything with the input until a second or two later.  Example: Pressing forward, backward, then side-strafe in a game will cause it to not register for a second or two, then I'll move forward, backward, then sideways after that 1-2 seconds.  Typing in something like Trillian will cause it to register the first few keystrokes slowly, and then suddenly type everything out in a quick burst.>Sometimes, if I press a button quickly and not for an extended period of time, the computer will act as if I held it down for several seconds once it registers.>If I press enough buttons while the delay is still going or if the keystrokes are starting to register, the computer beeps. I've got filter keys, sticky keys, and bounce keys turned off completely with no way to activate them excep... I've been having this issue since the last Windows 10 update, When I first power on the computer the mouse and keyboard are slow to respond as if there is lag between them and the computer. Also the HDD activity light is going nuts. When I restart the computer everything goes back to normal. I've disabled all 3rd party start up services and programs, and this did not seem to help. Any thoughts? I'm at the point where I am ready to do a fresh install of Windows 7 as I have that CD and the Windows 10 was the free upgrade.
