OUTLOOK 2002 password rejection

Q: OUTLOOK 2002 password rejection

In a pop-up, Outlook 2002 DEMANDS a password from me every time I try to send or receive e-mail. The blind password (xxxxxx) appears in the box so I know Outlook already has it yet it forces me to re-type it. Sometimes many times. So annoying! Please help. Paula

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

we are slowly migrating to Windows 10 at work and there is an issue with Outlook 2002. First, the setup:
- 1 Microsoft Exchange account for everyone. No issue here.
- 1 GMail account with Pop3 setup. Keeps asking for password each time we start Outlook, but then doesn't ask again.

There was a fix on Windows 7, it was about the protected storage and it worked, but does not in Win10. You can find results in google:
outlook keep asking for password windows 7 protected storage - Google Search
I didn't want to mess my registry before asking here. Any idea of what is the best solution?

I have been to the MS fix site for this problem but it is absolutely terrifying to behold!

Page after page and about 1,567 steps (almost) to resolve the issue!

Is there an easier way to save the password on a permanent basis rather than having to type it in every time I open Outlook?

A:Cannot save password in MS Outlook 2002

Did you do this from the MS site?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684/en-us

I had to do it for Outlook 2000, you have to edit the registry, but don't do it if you are not comfortable with it. You can always do a system restore if you make a mistake.

I loaded Office 2002 on my new laptop with Windows 7.

Every time I click send and receive, I am prompted to enter the 'network key' - i.e. password - for each of my 4 email accounts. This is despite the fact that the password is clearly stored in Outlook, which I did when I set up each email account.

Why does it prompt me for a password it already has? How do I stop the madness?

Thanks

I installed my trusty rusty Outlook 2002 in Windows 7. I had tansferred files and settings using WET, but the pst files didn't go to a location Outlook would recognize. I opened the pst file nevertheless and despite having also a reference to an inexistent pst file in the folders list (I had the same problem in XP, I can't get it out of there, but it doesn't do anything), everythigng works fine

Except for the email password. I have entered the password and checked "remember password" in account set up. It comes back asking for the email account password everytime I open Outlook and check emails, even if I check "remember password" in that screen (my Outlook is all in Portuguese, I can post snips if needed).

I tried this solutiion from Microsoft Suport (Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express), but it is meant for XP and requires that you change the Mail setting in Control Panel after changing the registry. There are no Mail settings in Control Panel anymore.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi

I`m running Windows XP Servicepack 2.

I`m having a problem with Microsoft Outlook 2002 (Norwegian). I have 3 mail accounts (POP) registered in the program with username and password. When i want to check mail i hit the "send and check" button.

Outlook always asks for passwords to the accounts even though i have told the program to remember passwords. I have tried to make it remember the passwords by editing the accounts and typed the passwords (I have also marked it to be remembered) and i have tried to make it remember the passwords when it prompts for passwords when im checking the mail.

Every time i shut down outlook, the passwords are gone.

Has anyone got a clue?

Hey all,
Yes I know I should upgrade to a more recent Microsoft office, but why spend the money when most all of it works fine? The only thing that happens after we switched to Windows 10 Home, is that Outlook asks me for a password when I do a send and receive. Works fine after you enter it , but was wondering if there was a secret to getting around this nuisance, or is it only accomplished by a newer version?
I have went the Compatibility Mode and the Compatibility Troubleshooter route, but no change.
I have a new desktop computer with Windows 10 preinstalled that replaced our Windows XP desktop - won't work in that. Also, have a laptop that was upgraded from Windows 7 Prof. to Windows 10 Prof., won't work in that either.
Used to work fine in our previous Windows XP home desktop.
Any sure fixes out there?

I am a new employee at this facility. It was just acquired in a buy-out and the new parent company doesn't have any IT support staff. I am a temp-to-hire but have been in IT for 20 years. (One of those jack of all trades but master of none guys.) After the acquisition a few weeks ago this facility was naturally booted off of the previous owners exchange server. So as a fast and dirty deal this facility went to a pop3 host to get set up for email. As I begin understanding the muck that I have inherited I have come to find out that I have win95/win98 machines and some windows2000 and XP machines. My problem seems to be with the 2000/XP machines running outlook 2000 and 2002. The 95/98 machines are not utilizing email. When the email accounts were set up - the password was saved for them in outlook. Unfortunately each day, at different times of the day, the outlook application requests the user to key in his/her email account password again. This may happen 5 times a day or it may happen 30+ times a day.

I am using my personal laptop (Windows XP/Outlook 2002) as a guinea pig to try and fix the problem but have had no luck thus far. Any help regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Am running Win XP Pro along with Office XP SP2. Just went to the Office XP update site and installed the Excel and Word 2002 Update Oct.16 2002, and the Outlook 2002 Update Jan 22 2002.

Word and Excel still work fine, but Outlook will only start in safe mode, hanging at the splash screen if started normally. I tried the trick of renaming the *.dat files noted in some of the bulletin boards, but tis did not help.

I then un-installed Office XP and reinstalled it to SP2 level without the three patches noted above. Outlook still refuses to start normally.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there is a "patch to patch the patch" for this problem, but can't seem to find the article again. Have also unsuccessfully searched the web and am now truly stuck!

Since Office seems to have reinstalled itself with all it's old defaults, I assume that the un-install programme does not remove registry entries? Any idea if there is a manual un-install instruction set anywhere - I can't find it at Microsoft.....!

When she opens her bosses 2003 calendar, the same appointment is still a whole day, but it stretches across 2 days (in this case 10/10/2004 and 11/10/2004). Both users use common Regional Settings (Australia).

I recently re-installed my entire computer, incl. MS Office 2002.
When restoring the .pst files, something went wrong. Maybe I needed to re-install more than just .pst files, maybe it screwed up because I renamed the back-up files?

Either way, the problem is that the Contact folder is not displayed in the Outlook Address Book, and I cannot manage to make it so.
I tried the following:
- Right-clicking the Contacts folder, Properties, Outlook Address Book tab. The checkbox "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is greyed out, so I cannot check it.
- Tools, E-mail accounts, View or change existing directories or address books. Outlook Address Book - MAPI is listed (as only one). When pressing Change..., I get an error message: "This E-mail account cannot be configured. Please run Outlook and choose this profile before attempting to make changes to it." There is only one profile (I had 2 before re-installation, but no longer needed the second).
If I try to Add... an Additional Outlook Address Book, or a Personal Address Book, I get the error message "The account you have added is not fully configured. It might not work properly until re-configured correctly."

Nice, but how to re-configure it correctly??? I prefer not having to re-install the program...

I tried to Remove the listed Outlook Address Book, but then could still not Add... one (same error message), so the originally listed one re-appeared.

What can I do?

Not sure how it got that way without more information but what happens if you simply end those processes.

Then you can open it up again and see if it starts replicating itself. There may be more going on behind the scenes that you are not aware of yet. This might be a good initial test to try.

I'm trying to read the e-mails from my old Windows 98 computer on my current Windows XP computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully do this. The e-mail client on the Windows 98 machine was Outlook Express 6 and the one on my current XP computer is Outlook 2002.

I followed the instructions listed on the Microsoft support site (Article ID: 270670) for backing up the data from Outlook Express which left me with a folder of .dbx files (Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc) which I then burned onto a CD and transferred over to my XP computer. My problem is that now that I've done that I'm not sure how to get Outlook 2002 to import that folder of .dbx files or recognize it. I googled it but didn't find any helpful results other than links to expensive conversion programs. So could anyone here offer any help on the matter? Thanks in advance.

A:How do I import messages from Outlook Express 6 into Outlook 2002?

Update: I realized that Outlook can't open the .dbx files and that Outlook Express has to export them to Outlook. However, when I tried this it only exported the messages in my "Sent" folder and none of the messages in any of the other folders, including Inbox.dbx which is about 500MB in size so I know the messages are in there. Any advice on what to do next?

In outlook 2007, use File - Impor and Export - Import from another program or file - Personal Folder file (.pst).

Then you point it at a copy of the PST from your old 2002 version of Outlook, copy it over on a CD or DVD or via a network if connected (it will be a large file usually).

You can tell it to not create duplicates etc as you want.

Welcome to TSG!
Researched and found little about your problem. It is possible you had a pre-existing virus or trojan on your system which is causing problems. When you installed NAV 2002 did you retrieve all the new virus definitions and run a full virus scan on your system? Also go to this website and run a free online virus scan to get a second opinion.

We are in a school setting. Students on a few of our computers cannot save their powerpoint files using a password--there is no error message--everything looks like it works. But the filename does not change in the title bar and when you close the file, it prompts you for saving. Even if you go through the whole thing again, it doesn't acknowledge your save with the password. It only does this on some machines, so we assume it's some silly setting somewhere--but we have no idea where.

I did see a tip recommending that for the conversion to work, you should back up your 2001 file in 2001, and choose to restore a file in 2002. Which will then, supposedly, convert the file correctly?

I have been getting a message that I cannot delete any emails in two of my accounts. I cannot delete any sent e-mails that haven't been sent. I cannot delete any appointment reminders. I had a problem with Outlook several months ago and called Microsoft, paid my $45.00 and they set up an additional account. I want to delete the original account that has the same problem and I lost the directions that they gave me to do that. I would also like to correct the deletion problem on the newer account. HELP, Please.

Just to be sure, this is Outlook or Outlook Express you are referring to?

How are you attempting to delete them as they would be in your Out Box?

Please verify it is Outlook we are talking about.

I keep getting emails in a foreign language. I have no idea what they say and I don't want them. I've been using Rules Wizard and Organize to automatically send some of them to the Deleted folder. Is there a way to send any email not in English to the Deleted folder other than what I've been doing? Heaven knows I get enough junk mail in English!

Hiya

There dosen't seem to be much of a way, that I can find. Have you tried Blocking the sender, to see if that'll work?

When the message come in, rightclick on the message and choose Block Sender. This will send it to the bin, but no more will be allowed from that sender again

Regards

I have a new computer with windows 7. I configured Outlook to go to my ISP and get my email, but when I open an email it displays what looks like the source file in the old Win XP & Windows Mail. Does anyone have some input to this as to why it displays like that. Not every email does it, some displsy like the email should, but most shows the (What I call Source Files) listing??

1. Who is your email?
2. What version of Outlook?
3. Can you paste a picture of the bad email here.

I had a signature on Outlook 2002 that worked fine. It included a JPEG file. Recently I attempted update to Outlook 2003. My signature (the picture part) would not work. It just showed a box with an X in upper left. We took off the 2003 and reinstalled 2002. I can now send out emails with my signature fine, but when associates email me with the same logo on their signature, it shows up as just that box. When I hit "reply", their signature shows up correctly in the reply email. I would like to solve the 2002 problem. Even more, I would like to reinstall 2003 and have it work correctly. I am not sure if problems are related.

I think you need to reconfigure Outlook 2003. I think it hanldes signatures different.

Not that I want this done. But someone wanted to know if they could get this message turned off.

After you delete a item from the Inbox and then go to your delted box,
And delete something out of here you get a message that says.
Are you sure you want to delete this stuff?

Is there a way to get rid of this message and just delete it like it does when you delete it inside the INBOX?

Hi fatbob,
Yes, you can disable that. Go to Tools/Options and choose the Other tab. Click Advanced Options under General. Uncheck the box that says "Warn before permanently deleting items".
