W520 microphone BUTTON not working in windows 10

Q: W520 microphone BUTTON not working in windows 10

Hi guys, Yesterday I upgraded from win7 to win10, but I noticed that my microphone button doesn't work anymore. The orange light is always off, and pressing the button does nothing. It is possible to enable/disable the microphone with option menus, but I would like it to work with the button as well.Anyone has any experience? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to be able to mute it when using Skpe and other conferencing software. I has always worked in the past. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Mike

I recently performed a reinstall of Windows 10, and now my mic mute button is not operating! At first I thought it was maybe just the little light indicator not coming on, but a test proved that wrong. What could be the cause of this, you think? And how could I possibly fix it? Thanks

After upgrading to Windows 10, the DVD drive no longer reads discs on the W520. It still works in Linux so it's probably a driver issue. I checked the drivers on Lenovo's site and there is no DVD driver. The drive powers on and will open but nothing is read off the disc. It does not appear in "My Computer". Device Manager shows the drive with a triangle warning icon. Attempting to automatically update the driver says it already has the newest one installed. Lenovo Solution Center says the driver is disabled. Disabling and re-enabling the drive does nothing. How can I fix it?

I guess it's dead. I had paid 300 for 3yr Nbd warranty. It expired 5 days ago. So now have to bin the docking station, 2x pus and 2x batteries, and a 2k laptop. The problem is there is no sub 2.5kg laptop on market which supports 2x 30" monitors except w540 or dell m4800, and would not go Lenovo again.

Hi folks Suspect there's an issue with the driver on X1 Carbon 6 gen after an update from MS. The driver is Realtek High Definition Audio(SSD). It says the latest and correct driver is installed but looking at the logs on the driver the last message on 10 July 2019 is 'device not migrated' and its ambigious as to whether the driver is installed. So, that's why I think my microphone isn't working. At least I can't get Cortana to hear me and I can't do anythign with the microphone settings on normal routes in Windows and via Lenovo. Systems checks on hardware say all is fine. Tried downloading the driver from Lenovo and installing but the laptop knows better and won't install it saying all is fine with the microphone universe. Any advice? Not keen on waiting for Lenovo and Windows to realise the issue and update (if it's a driver issue). Admitidely i'm not great with machinse so might have missed a setup step or switch on somewhere. Richard

Hi everyone I have never had bluetooth working on my w520 but need it now in my research - with consumer grade EEGs, if anyone should be curious. I have checked under bios and cant see any bluetooth settings there. The fact that bluetooth is listed in windows' device manager tells me that there should be a bluetooth module installed in the machine (I could be wrong here). I have tried running 'Driver Talent', which didn't find anything fixable with the bluetooth.  3 images from windows' device manager:  I hope someone can lead me towards a fix

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I have a ThinkPad W520 with an i7 i2720QM employing optimus to switch between a stock intel and an NVIDIA Quadro 1000M gpu. Optimus no longer appears to be working and I cannot get the Nvidia card to function even after reinstalling stock drivers cleanly in safe mode. For several months I have attempted to resolve this issue without success. I am running windows 10 but had the issue before making the switch. On one attempt I was able to get the nvidia control panel to deploy so that I could access the nvidia controls but that only lasted for a week and reverted back even after attempting the same configuration. When attemping to install current lenovo nvidia updates the installer displays an "installation package is corrupt" message. When attempting to launch the nvidia control panel the icon flickers and then does nothing. When I right click on the desktop only the nvidia desktop manager icon is displayed and then does not launch either. This problem started when I connected my machine to a projector and since then my laptop does not recognize any video device.  This seems like such a basic function -- connecting a laptop to a projector -- and I have never had this issue with my other machines. Especially since this is a W series machine designed for performance. It's basically useless to me now.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I remove two memory cards and only leave one in Slot 0 on the bottom and Slot 0 underneath the keyboard, the system boots and recognizes my 8GB of memory. Any guidance on how I can get my system to recognize all four memory cards (16GB) would be great. Thanks.

There is a pink jack port on the back of the sound card that is for MIC. Also see if the MIC is muted from the volume control. In the volume control select Options>Advanced Controls. Then in the MIC section press the advanced key and select Microphone +20db Boost. (this will make the sound more loud)

Get a new mic if it doesn't work. Hope this helped tho!

Hello all,  I just got a Thinkpad Mini Dock 3 with the USB 3.0 port. However, the dock port does not work with my W520 (which has USB 3.0 on it). The dock port does work with my X220 (yes, old school), however (which also has 3.0 port). So, the fault is not the dock, but some kind of issue between the W520 and the Mini Dock. I've uninstailled and reinstalled the 3.0 hub driver, updated drivers, and searched everywhere but cannot find a fix. Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to fix this issue? Thanks kindly,Dylan

Hi all, Our Town Manager has a W520 laptop and about a year ago, the duplication of his screen, when he plugs into a projector, stopped working.  He can send it to the external display just fine, but then his laptop screen is blank and while this sort of works, it's hard for him to see it.  Any ideas what's wrong and how I can troubleshoot it for him?  I know it sounds weird mentioning it's been a good year since this has been happening, but he doesn't connect an external display often, so it's a problem that keeps getting forgotten about.  But he'll be doing it a lot more soon so I'd like to get it fixed for him permanently.  Thanks!

I've been googling and searching youtube for three hours now, without finding a valid solution. My new headset microphone simply won't work on Windows 7. I have:

- Switched it on
- Made absolutely sure it's plugged in correctly
- Downloaded and installed the latest Realtek HD audio codec driver
- Unmuted the microphone (as it's muted by default)
- Tried increasing the sound level in various places to no avail
- Tried increasing the efficiency boost to the max to no avail
- Set the microphone as my primary recording device
- Restarted my PC a few times
- Went to the toilet
- Enabled listening of the microphone
- Done a virus check
- Unplugged and replugged my headset a number of times
- Got my laptop's integral microphone as well as the headphones of my headset, but since only one of these can apparently work at a time that's no solution
- Messed around with everything in the Realtek HD Audio management
- Despaired
All right, I will admit there's one thing I haven't accessed yet, and that's the speech recognition. This is because I can't access it, since it's disabled for my OS language which is Finnish (I didn't and wouldn't have chosen that myself, it was pre-installed). But I only noticed something related to the speech recognition listed in two or three of the solutions I went through, and besides I just don't want to believe Windows 7 could be dumb enough to not let something as basic as a microphone... Good Day.
My microphone is not working. I tried all the settings possible in the sound category of Control Panel-
Mute is not on, The volume is fine and the Microphone even has a green checkmark next to it (under Sound>Recording>Microphone), whether it is plugged into the jack or not. I tried both the front and rear (pink) jacks. The driver is updated since it doesn't give me an option to update.
I update my driver's regularly. What can be the problem?
What is bothering me is the fact that even when the mic is not plugged in, the green checkmark stays on...and it doesn't do that
with my other computer where the mic does work...(when I plug it out, green checkmark turns red...)

It shows it as being installed and functioning properly but I can't utilize it anywhere in the system. The driver is the Contexant 20672 SmartAudio HD.  When I go to "Set up a microphone" is says "The wizard could not start. Make sure your hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel." My mic is enabled and the volume is up. Any ideas?

HiWhile there is an issue with Conexant drivers for win10, probably the fastest way is to use Dolby Home Theatre 4 application. It supports Conexant audio chip and works w/o manufacturer drivers.DHT could be found on the Lenovo support site since a lot of laptops has that app preloaded. Also, there are threads on the forum about DHT and presets for certain laptop models and audio chip. Note, I don't know anything whether DHT supports win10.

Hi everyone. Last month, I installed Windows 10 preview on my 2012 macbook pro via bootcamp. Today I tried to use my headset for the first time in Windows 10 (Skullcandy SLYR). Audio seems okay, but the microphone isn't detected. In "Manage Audio Devices", only thr Cirrus built in microphone works. When installing windows I had a few issues with the Realtek Drivers, but it all seemed okay after manually downloading the driver. The microphone is nowhere to be found in the system, but it works. I've tried it with my iphone and it detects my voice clearly. Can you guys help me?

A:VN7-592G Nitro Windows 10 microphone not working

Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Try these steps:a) Right click on the volume icon and select ?Recording devices?.b) Right click on the microphone showing up and select, ?Show disconnected devices? and ?Show disabled devices?.c) Select ?Microphone? and click on ?Properties? and make sure that the microphone is enabled.d) You might also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default. You can test the mic using Voice Recorder to make sure it is working within Windows.
If it worked before and now you are having problems, you might try restoring Windows back to a previous working configuration. Here is a link to those steps: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38202/~/windows-10%3A-how-to-restore-windows-using-....

I have had my Ideapad P500 for a few years now and have never needed the use of my microphone or webcam, however, I recently started a new job that requires me to work from home and use Skype to communicate with my coworkers. The problem is that my internal microphone does not work. I have spent hours troubleshooting the problem both manually and using the Windows troubleshooting utility. By all accounts and appearances, my microphone is working properly but in actuality, I get no response from it whatsoever. I even purchased an external microphone, but when I plug it into the combination audio jack on my laptop, not only does the microphone not work, but I also lose the sound from my internal speakers. This is not by any means the first issue that I have had with this computer, and truth be told, I am pretty unhappy with it general. Please help me to get this issue resolved. I do not want to have to take my laptop in for service for a 4th time in as many years because that is just ridiculous.

On the XP I didn't have to do any configuring, just plug in and go. When I plug in the mic on Windows 7 I get a popup from 'Dell Audio. The mic is turned up all the way, not muted, and it says ON at the bottom of the screen. I've gone into the sound settings from Control Panel, and every tab says that everything is working properly, and I've got the in-line mic enabled.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but could someone help me troubleshoot this situation, or tell me where I should ask for help? I don't think it's Skype. This seems to be the computer. I tried two different microphones, and neither is working on this machine.

The machine said it was shutting down a few days ago.  After it shut down (because of updates) it would not turn on.  After unplugging it for a few minutes it turned back on but the microphone does not work.  I tried skype but it says there is a problem.  The devicde manager shows no errors. I updaded the conexant driver and it still does not work. Any suggestions?  Should I remove the drivers for all audio and install them again?  Anyone know why the windows update did this?  (not sure if it was the anniversary update) Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am at my wit's end here. I've tried all the usual troubleshooting tactics to try and resolve this issue but for about 4 months now my microphone and webcam have not been working on my 5th generation X1 Carbon Thinkpad laptop. This is driving me crazy. Is this a known issue? Is there anything else I can try to resolve this?  The sound works fine but microphone is never detected whether it's through the laptop, through the headphone jack, or through a USB-C earbud or bluetooth. Really cripples my ability to get any work done with web conferences and video meetings. I've searched around and haven't found any solutions. Please help!

Hello everybody, I have two problems and both are related to audio recording1) The built-in microphone is not working. I have noticed that this is a very common issue. However, I haven't found a solution that works for me. I have checked that it is the predetermined deviceI have checked that the microphone is not mutedI have downloaded the most recent drivers and restarted my PC, and then I have tried downloading old ones and restarting again. Didn't work. What else should I try? 2) Now, I bought an external microphone because I really need to use Skype on my laptop and I was tired of trying to solve the previous problem. What I found is that the combo jack plug does not work when I plug in a microphone, even if it works when I plug in a speaker. Interestingly, the laptop thinks it is a speaker as the built-in speaker stops working when I plug in the microphone. Some previous topic gave the solution of bending up a little bit a tiny metallic piece in the jack connection of the laptop, but I have not been able to make that work. This is really annoying. I need to use a microphone, I don't care which one. Please, avoid telling me to download drivers, because that's not it. Thanks for reading.

Recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 HP 64 Bit. Microphone was working fine before I upgraded the OS. Also I've noticed my previously working IDT Audio Control Panel is now missing, tried to re-install but to no avail. Currently in the Device Manager, the Audio Device is High Definition Audio Device. Also, under Sound, Recording, Microphone is not plugged in. I have already checked 'Show disconnected/disabled devices'. My speakers are working fine, just the microphone. It is plugged into the 3.5mm pink jack, I do not have any front microphone jacks. Have also tried to update the drivers but no changes.

I suppose installing an Audio Device Manager and identifying the devices according to the ports will work, but none of these audio managers like RealTek or IDT work for me, which I am not sure why.

Motherboard: Intel D946GZIS

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jonathan

A:Microphone not working on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

The IDT (previously called SigmaTel) drivers are needed. The Windows installed HD Audio Codec are a basic function driver and will provide sound, but depending on the hardware sound chip may not provide all functions.

Here is the IDT driver from the Intel downloads. Install this and see if fixes the problems.
