Outlook 2000 - display e-mail address as real name vs. actual e-mail address

Q: Outlook 2000 - display e-mail address as real name vs. actual e-mail address

I need to know if there is a setting to show just the actual E-Mail address in contacts where sometimes it displays the persons name (underlined) and you have to right click and properties to see what the e-mail address.

By the way this is in a non exchange environment.
Thank You

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

All of my contact lists are saved "last name first" in the "file as" box in the individual contact record. I have enabled all of my contact lists as "show this folder as an E-mail Address Book" in the properties for that folder.

When I click on the "To" button to address a new message the contact lists show first name first. All of them are shown this way other than the "global".

How can I change these to show last name first?

A:e-mail address books, Outlook 2000

By default the eprsonal address book shows Last Name First Name and the Global always shows First Name Last Name. You can change the personal one in the address book properties, but I think Exchange is always that way for the global list.

When creating a new message in Windows Mail my address line displays both the nams and email address of the person I am sending to. I would prefer just the name be displayed. How can I change this? Also is 60 too old to learn Vista? I am afraid it might be.

A:Windows mail address display

Hi and welcome. It just picks up what you put in the address book. If you put JOE SCHMOE and then put [email protected] that is what would appear. I think you have to put something. Many people prefer that you don't use their entire name.

As to Vista, you're never too old to learn.

I recently bought a Windows Seven computer and am switching from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail for the first time.

I am very frustrated because I can not find out how to get my main page (inbox, message display, mail folders, etc) to display a list of my contacts. Is this possible? I have tried the various layout functions but they dont include the handy address book down the side as in Outlook express.

What used to be a one-click option to create a new email to an address now requires a click on Contacts, scroll down the list, single click the address, single click send email, then close the box. Only Microsoft could "improve" a programs by turning a one-click operation into four.

Another associated piece of stupidity is that when in Contacts, if you double-click the address, it Edits Contact rather than Sends Mail. How often does a user edit the address vs. sending an email.

Any fixes to this problem? I am ready to go back to Outlook Express. Thanks,
bruce

I am helping a charity which suffers a lot from spam and virus e-mails. They have a website on which their e-mail address is openly displayed. I guess this address has been visited by automatic e-mail harvester programs because they receive up to 300 spam and virus mails per day.

I'm not at all technical with websites, so I'm looking for a very simple solution. Would it be more secure to put this on the website, for example:

"[email protected] (Remove 500 from the e-mail address)"

In other words, put an incorrect address on the website, but with an accompanying instruction which a human could read and interpret. Or in some other way to break up the address, like this:

"abc at provider.uk (replace 'at' with '@' to send a message. Leave no spaces.)"

Any basic advice much appreciated. I'm afraid that any technical advice about java script or the like will go straight over my head ...

Thanks.

A:How to securely display an e-mail address on a website ?

The first version would not be that good since the spam would still get sent to the fake address putting a load on the provider.uk mailserver or some poor sod who actually has this fake address.

Another solution would be to put up a picture of the address.

Why is it that only certain programs remember things you've typed before, i.e. in my outlook at home if I have typed in an e-mail address before it will automatically come up when I type the first letter, but that doesn't happen at work. I think it's a nice feature, and would like that to happen here. Anyone know how I can enable this?

I imported my Contacts data from Outlook 2000 to Outlook XP and am trying to use the contacts to address e-mail messages. Some contacts with e-mail addresses will autofill (i.e., the e-mail address appears while I am typing the name) but others never appear, no matter what combinations of first & last names I try. One address even autofills although it isn't in my Contacts!

I haven't been able to find anything about this problem in the MS knowledge base.

I generally work from home, and emails addressed to me at my employer's domain are redirected to my personal email address at my ISP's domain. What I want to do is send mail through my ISP, but I want it to appear as though it came from my employer's domain.

However, when I enter "[email protected]_domain.com" in the From field, the recipient gets an email which says it comes from "[email protected]_ISPs_domain.com on behalf of [email protected]_domain.com".

Can I do anything to change this?

I recently go a new harddrive. It is now my ' c ' drive.
I want to get my old mail and address from my " old HD " to my "new HD ".

I was able to move my Internet Explorer favorites from my " old " to my " new " HD, but can't seem to get my old mail out of that old drive.

Both HD's have IE 6 and Outlook Express 6. I run Win98.

A:Outlook Expess: moving mail and address

OE keeps its email in dbx files...inbox.dbx, sent item.dbx, etc.

You can try just moving the dbx files into your new OE installation's store folder. That does work often enough to try it.

If it doesn't work, do a search of the old drive for "*.dbx" (without the quotes, with the asterisk and dot). Once found (and there may be more than one folder with a long alphanumeric name containing dbx files), use OE's Import (File>Import>Messages) feature to import them. When you get to the step about where to import from, choose "Store Folder." If you found more than one folder containing dbx files, browse to the folder on the other drive that looks like the best bet for containing your old email. If you don't get the right one the first time, try another. Sooner or later the messages you're looking for will import and you'll know you found the correct folder.
The address book is kept in another folder. Search the old drive for "*.wab" (without the quotes, with the asterisk and dot). Once found, go back to OE>File>Import only this time tell it address book and browse to the location of the .wab file.

A:Outlook 2003: No E-Mail Address Or Contacts

Hi successgold

In Outlook 2003:
Go > Folder List
You should see your Contacts folder.
Right click on the Contacts folder:
Properties > Outlook Address Book tab
Place a check mark in: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book
In the field below that option, you can also give it a unique name.
Apply, OK to save and close.

Open the Outlook Address Book, click the drop down arrow for: Show Names from the: and select the Contacts folder you just enabled to be an e-mail Address Book.
If you want that Contacts folder to always show first.
Still in the Outlook Address Book,
Tools > Options
Click the drop down arrow for: Show this address list first:
and select the Contacts folder you want to show first.
Do you have your e-mail account server settings entered? Once that information is entered, the Send/Receive button should appear.

Let us know if that helps or not.

This is my first post in Tech Support Guy. I have spent some time looking in your forums for a possible answer to an e mail problem, but have not found any relevant answers as yet. I hope Admin do not shoot me for possibly posting this in the wrong way or place as I am not at all familiar with Forums.

Can anyone help please? My friends and I use Windows XP Home SP3 and Outlook Express 6. A friend has sent me a problem email. When I reply using the ‘Reply’ button, my message ‘bounces’ back with the message in effect 'undeliverable due to corrupt e mail address', (of course). When checking in MY ‘Address Book’ I found an additional corrupt invalid e mail address in my friend’s name showing nothing but 29 astericks, i.e. ***************************** His original correct address is still listed, but when replying using the Reply button this finds the corrupted address, not the correct one.

I can send him e mails by making certain that I type his correct e address in to the ‘To’ box. Has anyone out there come across this one before; does anyone know if this is just malicious software or something more sinister?

My friend lives locally and I generally look after his PC as he does not know a lot about computers. I physically checked his PC recently and found that this problem has been going on for at least 2 months. He has been getting complaints from his other contacts saying that they are having the same problems.

Do a search for *.wab to find the Address Book . . and Search for "Outlook Express" to find the folder the mail is stored in. Youmay find several Outlook Express files, the one you want is full of .dbx files

You will have to set the search to look in Hidden and System files

A:Display email address in outlook 2000 instead of just names when sending

Unless you're using your company's global address list, you must have saved the e-mail addresses yourself (either in your personal address book or in Contacts).

If so, the name is just a short identifier for that e-mail address. You can change the names to include the e-mail address by editing it the name:

In Contacts, right-click the contact, click Open.
Change the Full Name line to read:

Contact Name: E-mail address
e.g. John Smith: [email protected]
In the File As line, make sure it says the same as above.
Click Save and Close.

Alternatively, use:
File, Address Book, double-click the addressee, click the Name tab.
Add the e-mail address to the end of the surname and make sure it appears the same in the Display line.

If you're using a global address list, I'm not sure how you'd change it, maybe someone else can jump in and help you?

Can it be done?

Here is the story. I live in the UK and there are now only two providers of internet service in my area. I am leaving soon and the Wannado only does long term contracts so I am stuck with AOL (I actually don't like their service). But I was able to just use their internet and bypass their software by changing some preferences in the Linksys system!!!

But I have an email adress that I want to check on Outlook. I don't think that AOL can do it but perhaps someone out there can help.... I cannot get a good SMTP that works to check another email address. Basically I want to use their SMTP server to send mail from my personal email account (not AOL)...

Recently my Outlook 98 email program started doing something peculiar. I use 4 different email accounts and I reply to each of them. When I press the Send button, instead of using the email address that the original message was addressed to as the originating address of the Reply, Outlook is picking a different account from my list of accounts as the originating address. I can go to Send on the File menu and choose the correct originating address, but for some reason, the program is defaulting to a different address. I tried removing the address it was choosing and it started choosing my default email account. I re-established the removed account and the program is still choosing the default account it picked when the removed one was gone. I tried making some other accounts the default and it seems to be choosing the default as the originating address for replies regardless of which address the original message I am replying to was addressed to. I hope that some kind and knowledgable person can tell me what's screwed up here and how to fix it.

BTW, my machine is a Dell Pentium III, with 512 mb memory running Windows 98SE updated with patches.

My workmate sent me an e-mail and quickly learned it went to many people in her address book.

She has XP Home on a laptop and Outlook Express.

She works remotely from me and I can get more info if needed.

She reports that in the TO: box she entered the first few letters of my name and my full name popped up as it always does and she says she sent the e-mail to me as she always does and did not enter any further names or make any reference to the Address Book.

When I received the e-mail, my name was first, followed by many other names. In her Sent Messages box the TO: line shows all the other names.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

She insists that she did not do anything different than she always does.

Any chance Facebook has something to do with this?

I asked her to see if the message went to her entire addressbook or just part of it, and if only part of it, whether there is some pattern among the recipients. She'll report back in a few hours.

Obviously, we need to get to the bottom of this!

Only about 25% of the contacts in the addressbook were sent the message.

My workmate noted that most of these people had been active in a certain project at about the same time.

You need to go into Outlook Express and create a new user account for the new address. Then delete the old accounts if you are no longer using them.

I tried Detect and Repair, I tried downloading service pack 1. Also, my address book disappeared. I was able to find Contacts and print a hard copy of email addresses, but Import/Export is 'greyed out'. My calendar, with standing appointments is gone.
I may have made the problem worse by moving around subfolders between "Outlook Today Archive Folders" and Personal Folders. I also have since received more email and so now I do not trust my archive.pst or outlook.pst to be the 'best copy'.

Any ideas? Salvagable? I am thinking of going to Windows 2000, and buying Outlook 2003 and rebuilding my address book and cutting my losses with email. Recommendations?

Thank you!!
N

I know someone told me how to stop e-mail addresses from being added to my address book without my knowledge but my memory isn't what it used to be. Will someone tell me how I can stop every tom dick and harry with something to sell from leaving his address on my book. I now have over twenty addresses I do not recognize and would like to not have to delete them every few months as I have been doing in the past. Thanks for your help.

A:Unwanted e-mail address in address book

I see you are keeping details a secret, such as what programs are involved.

If by chance it is Outlook Express, you can try this...
OE->Tools->Options->Send Tab.
Be sure this is unchecked Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book

But they don't normally appear there if you are not opening the emails and clicking reply. So I am unclear how yours are showing up in an address book?

I want to know how can I tracing the home ph. no., St. address, owner name from a email id. If it needed any software or other things please tell me the name of those things.

A:how can i tracing the ph. no.,St. Address, owner name by the e-mail address

you can try typing the email address in google or you can go to one of those sites where you pay for them to get others private info. Thats the best you can do.

If there is illegal activity going on, just turn the email over to the authorities.

Have a Vostro 1500 with Windows XP. Just installed Windows Live Mail, but the transfer of my WAB to Windows Live Mail, following their directions, did not work properly. It transferred only part of my book, and shows many duplicates (some with same name but different e-mail address).
Tried transferring a second time, and now have an incorrect book of over 1,000 addresses.

I want to delete this incorrect book (without having to delete each address one at a time...does not have a file delete option that I can see), and properly transfer the full book. I can create a new address book file if needed. Any help would be appreciated.

While trying to add and then delete a new user in Outlook Express version 6 on my PC running Windows XP (Home) w/ SP3, I lost all my saved email and the address book. I did not have them backed up! In looking for help in the internet, I have had opportunities to buy stuff, but not much real help. Can these files be recovered?

A fake name and address has been inserted into my Outlook contacts, apparently by a virus. When I used a standard abbreviation to send an e-mail to a friend, the e-mail was sent to this fake address instead. Does anyone know what this is about, and what I have to do to keep it from happening again? (I have deleted the fake contact and have run a Norton virus scan).

I am running a PC on Windows 7.

Hi tech friends, I am helping an acquaintance who has installed Windows Live Mail and created two email accounts therein: one a regular Comcast.net account, and one for email sent to his domain, which is hosted by totalchoicehosting.com. However, he can't receive email sent to his own domain address. He is using the incoming and outgoing server settings prescribed by his web host, but the mail never arrives i n his in box in Windows Live Mail. Messages sent to the Comcast address do appear in Windows Live.

He is able to receive mail by going through mail2web.com.

What else can I try?

Missing functionallity in 'Windows Mail' Contacts that was in Outlook Express 'address book'

I've just moved over from XP with Outlook Express 6 to Vista Ultimate using Windows Mail.
I've migrated my old XP Address Book into Windows Mail Contacts and my 50+ Contact Groups (my mailout lists) are visible BUT when I browse an individual contact there is no field that tells me which of my Contact Groups this person is in? In Address Book there was a field there.
I need this info for maintaining my mailout list. At the moment I can't tell if a person's email address is already on my mail out list unless I check each of the 50+ Contact Groups individually which can't be right!!!
Am I missing something - is this info there somewhere?
Thx

I have my own domain hosted on an Apache server and was wanting to know how to get it to automatically bounce e-mails that are sent to non-existing/invalid accounts.

Right now it's set up with a name (not by me) that serves as a catch-all for the ones that are invalid/misspelled/non-existing.

I know it can be done as I get one from one a week at the office when I spell a name wrong from my insurance carriers - but I'm not sure what hosting software their home office has in place.

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

When you send an e-mail or receive one from outlook, by default it looks for the person in your contacts and puts the display name up instead.

But when reading the e-mail it displays

John Doe [mailto:[email protected]]
To: Jane Doe

How do you get rid of the mailto:etc, etc ??? I would prefer a hyperlink instead of the mailto because then it reveals the person's e-mail address.

I know you could just hover over it or click on the hyperlink to find out the e-mail, but I'm just asking for the purpose of printing. I don't want my e-mail address shown in a long stream of E-mail send's and replies between a friend when I print it.

If there is a setting in Outlook to turn this off, please let me know, I fooled around with everything and I cant get it to work.

A:PROBLEM: Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002/2003 E-Mail Display

Under "tools/options/prefrences/e-mail options/advanced e-mail options " You can select "automatic name checking" which I think will convert the mailto to a name if it is in the global address or contacts list. I don't know what that does to people you send to I would think it depends on their setting...

I had to finally put a spam filter onto my e-mail because I have been getting about 10 a day from misc. sources (example: [email protected] Re:something for you
[email protected] Re: Your music
[email protected] Re: read it immediately
[email protected] siemens.com Re: fake )

In addition to junk like the above, I am getting e-mails that show my own exact e-mail address as the sender with the subject "returned due to virus" subject "hi". How could someone use my e-mail address to send me e-mail?? And if I block the senders it only seems to create more spam.
