Latpop Keeps beeping every second after water spill on keyboard- Lenovo Thinkpad T480

Q: Latpop Keeps beeping every second after water spill on keyboard- Lenovo Thinkpad T480

Yesterday, I accidently droped just little water on the keyboard. It remained working for a while before the whole keyboard froze and stopped working at all, the strange thing was the beeping that the laptop keeps doing on one second interval, it does not stop beeping unless you press the shut down. The strange thing is that the laptop all working except the keyboard, and this beeping every second that never stops. It is like a blood rate device voice that you hear at the ICU if you are sitting beside a patient. My question is there a way to avoid replacing the keyboard as it seems it is a keyboard issue if I am not wrong? Or should I try to open it and dry it in some way then connect it again and see if this beeps goes and if the keyboard returns to life again? Thank you for the help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All,  My '21 days old' ThinkPad T480 - Top of the line machine warms up at the top-left section of the keyboard, just above the vents!   I'm not sure what needs to be done. I raised a complain with the Lenovo Support and the technician who paid a visit today, apparently was ready to replace the motherboard, because he thought that I reported a heating issue with my machine. But that wasn't the case. I'm surprised though that they were ready to replace my machine with a new mother board, without knowing the exact issue.  Any ways, so all he did was replace the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, I was okay with that, as I read in many forums that replacing the thermal paste helped reduce the heating issues.  Its only now that I'm starting to realize, that I don't think its more of a heating issue, but a SERIOUS design flaw in T480 machines.  The top-left edge portion of the keyboard that which is just above the vents, seems to start warming up within 30 mins of NORMAL usage. I don't see the fan doing its job either, may be its suppose to speed up at very high temps, irrespective, what I think is the problem is that the fan case that is connected to the vents, for some reason the casing touches the vents plastic body and that's transferring the warmness up to the place where ones left palm would naturally rest while typing.    It warms up to the extent that I can feel its not comfortable for me to ... Dear Lenovo, I bought a Lenovo W550s laptop last August, and last week I spilled water on the keyboard. Now, about 8 buttons on the keyboard (at least), don't work. I am curious, will the warranty help me in any way with any thing?  Also, I am looking for a replacement (internal) keyboard, and am having trouble finding one. I am pretty sure that the keyboard that shipped with my laptop last fall was not backlit, as the keyboard never lit up (unless I didn't know how to turn it on). Anyways, the Parts No.: 0C44952, ID No.: 57P1ZW, FRU No.:04Y2387, Model No. KM BL-105US.  When I looked up the part on Lenovo's website, it returned nothing: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup.  So, my questions for you are:1.) Does the Lenovo warranty help me cover my malfunctioning keyboard?2.) Is the keyboard that I have, Parts No. 0C44952, a backlit keyboard?  3.) Where can I get a compatible keyboard replacement for this laptop? 4.) Will this keyboard replacement work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3DY3CW6149&ignorebbr=1 Kind regards,Spencer

Hello there, This is my first time posting. Basically, I spilled some water on my laptop keyboard 2 days ago, I wiped off the water and left it overnight. Then when I turned it on the keyboard is completely dead. The laptop itself turns on fine, the screen as well as the touchpad work fine, but the keyboard is not repsonsive at all. I am typing this question on the laptop now using a temporary external usb keyboard. Ive checked all the drivers and they do not indicate any problem. I think I may have to purchase a new one.  Model Number: HP 15-d051sa.Windows 10 64-bit. Kind regards,Farooq93

Yesterday, at ~8PM I opened a bottle of mineral water, unfortunately for me it burst and spilled all over my laptop. As I had no idea what to do I just stood there for like 5 seconds, then I realized I should disconnect the plug. After that I tried to dry it using towel and paper towels. Because I had no idea what else to do I just decided to give myself a treat and just go to sleep early, so I left the laptop there as it is (in normal position)

The next morning (roughly 8 hours after the spill) I decided to try whether it is working or not, well, it's quite hot in my room so the water should be gone now, the water spilled on the ground did disappear as I was too lazy to swab it (lol)...

well, the laptop is working just fine so far, except the keyboard is typing weird stuff

Q - q`1a
A - qa
D - 'd
F - vf

etc, not all keys are doing this, most of them are working just fine...

what should I do now? I know I can use the external keyboard, but is there a way to fix this? I have Asus G750JM and somewhere I read that the newer laptops have some feature that prevents the water from going to the laptop HW from the keyboard, not sure if mine has something like that but as I said, it works just fine except for the keyboard

I also tried to dry it some more today using paper towels, turn it facing down on the paper towel to see whether there still was some water (nope, the water towels were dry), I also decided just to clean it from dust using canned air, well, my laptop i... Read more

So I spilled about a half glass of water on my laptop. Its an Alienware 17X. I've been thinking of replacing it since its a bit old and not working so great anymore. However I still need it for a little while longer! It was late and I was just about to go to sleep, and I wasn't really thinking. I've never had this happen to a computer before, since I'm usually quite careful. Here's what I did which I now see is the worst possible thing you could do:

I dried the keyboard as much as I could, but left the laptop on. Then I went to sleep, and actually left the laptop on all night. The following day, I found that multiple keys on the key board weren't functioning, though the rest of the computer seemed to work fine. I shut down the computer but then restarted it. Some of the keys that hadn't worked now seemed to work again, but most the keyboard still wasn't functioning. Also whenever I clicked in a place to type, the j key would just type out an infinite amount without me pressing it. I shut the computer off again but I didn't do anything about it. Today, I tried to restart my laptop again but it went to the reboot options screen, and since the keyboard doesn't work I can't boot up my computer. I finally looked up what to do if you spill water on your keyboard, and I realize how stupid I've been.

It doesn't seem like there would be any water left in the computer by now, but I've shut it off, turned it upside ... Read more

Heyo,I'm having problems a bit with my Lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon gen 3 Whenever I type certain keys together they will make a beeping noise, I found that it is due to "unmanagable keystrokes".So certain shortcuts, typing fast, etc. don't seem to work as well because it just results into a beep. The problem I have is that when I use the combination of "Shift" and the "." key to try to make ">", it won't work and will only result into a beep. I'm not so worried about the beeping noise because I can turn off it in the BIOS, but I was wondering if there is a fix to just get it register 2 keys at once or preferably more.

I have a 17-day old new Thinkpad E560.  Spilled about a teaspoon of white wine on the keyboard when I jostled the glass (it didn't tip over).  Keyboard started acting flaky, spontaneously producing long series of a's and 1's.   While I couldn't see any evidence of remaining liquid after dabbing up what small amount was evident, I figured a trickle may have seeped inside, and let it dry overnight. 24 hours I tried again, and while there was no erratic behavior, about a third of the keys -- while they felt normal -- were non-functional. I recalled that the Lenovo specs for this model say it has a Spill Resistant keyboard.  But I see no open holes on the back of the case.  And I pulled out the keyboard and see it has plastic across its entire back.  Clearly this isn't a Spill Resistant keyboard.  How can the Lenovo specs, and many resellers' advertising, tout that it *is* Spill Resistant?

I would say that you might need a new keyboard. however take it somewhere and have it checked out to make sure nothing else got damaged from the water.

HI everybody,I accidentally spilled sugared tea on the keyboard and nothing but sticky keys happened. This bothered me because sometimes was not a problem and sometimes the space bar for instance was hard to use, this perhaps due to temperature.I decided to download the Hardware manual, and assisted by it, I removed the keyboard and trackpad so as to clean them. The keys got cleaned decently, so as the trackpad. I noticed that one not-in-use connector at right of the trackpad connector had a little drop in three or four wires on it's back side, but I could clean it decently too. When I finally assembled it and started the machine, the keyboard didn't work, not even a single key. The Fn and F2 led lights were on, and the F4 led was on but dimmed. After checking the connections several times, finally not a single led on the keys remained on.The final outcome came later when I found out that the speakers started an impossible to stop sound similar to the busy tone of a phone, but a little faster in pace. Audio works fine, but this tone is superimposed, reacts to volume adjustment, but I cannot find a way to shut it up.Does anyone has a clue on what is happening?Does anyone advices to buy a spare keyboard or is there a way to check if I may have ruined a different component and the keyboard is not the only problem? Many thanks in advance!

Hello, after a water spill (about 2 days ago) most of my key's aren't working. also having problems starting up my laptop. it turns on after a while, but always insists going through system recovery. I ordered a new keyboard, but I'm worried about my laptop still

please excuse the bad grammar/punctuation. I'm using an on-screen keyboard.

A:Water Spill

Well honestly if the laptop itself is still functioning then that is an accomplishment. With the keyboard being bad yea that is going to have to be replaced. If the computer itself constantly wants to go to system recovery, try reverting the system back to an earlier date through system restore to see if that fixes your problems. If not, you may have an issue regarding the motherboard.

Ok.. today has been one of my worst days.. (Skip this long first paragraph if u wanna just go on to my question)

This morning I spilled water on my keyboard... which went psycho, but became ok after i opened it up and blow dried and nature dried it for hours. Right about the time my keyboard got to work again, I spilled my water on my computer. My pc case has fan on top for better airflow, meaning it has a vent there.. and i happened to spill water there.
Being a dumb person I am, I just went to sleep thinking water will dry itself (computer was off at the time of water spill) instead of cleaning inside. About 4 hours later.. i woke up and turned on the computer. It booted fine.. but when Windows screen came up, I saw weird marks on the screen all over. I quickly turned off the computer and opened it up. I felt my way around and felt that... my graphic card had little bit of water on top of it. (Leadtek 7900GT). I quickly used paper towl to dry it and blow dried it with a cool air. I inserted it back in and booted computer again. Everything ran fine. Having being shocked, I constantly monitored temperatures using CPUFAN and graphic card driver... things seemed fine... until i got the BSOD saying something wrong with win32k.sys

After the BSOD, every time my comp boots, it beeps and doesnt start. I drove to Fry's immediately (which is at least 40 min away) to buy a new graphic card..but it was closed (I arrived at 9:50).

Now I just got back and am thinking about... Read more

Okay, long story short - it's my mother's laptop, and she spilled some milk on the trackpad last night. (Which could be replaced) And instead of coming to me for advice, she stupidly decided to grab the shower head, and while holding the laptop at an angle, blasted water into it, while it was still on to get rid of the milk. Instead the screen went dead, but it sounded like it was still trying to work. I don't know if eventually the battery died, or just ran out of power, but it's no longer doing anything. (The power button wasn't responding to shut it off) I realize it's almost fruitless, but is there anything I can do to fix it, or is there at least a chance of recovering her data?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure what section to put it in.
I've just recently spilled water on my laptop keyboard. It wasn't a lot and I instantly got paper towels to help clear it up after I quickly turned the power off.
I made sure to keep cleaning with the towel and pressing on the keys gently to put more water out for it to be absorbed.
It's turned on fine, and so far I've not noticed any keyboard issues.
Will my laptop be fine, or should I do something else just to make sure?
The water mostly spilled on part of the speaker, the power button, and a few of the keys. There's no water anymore and everything feels dry, and like I said it was a small amount of water.

not even the bios came on. nothing. flatline. to me that says, fried mobo. that thing is dead mate. if i were you, i'd get a new mobo and see if the other parts are still working. and if you can't determine that, or do it easily, then ask a professional to test the processor and the graphics chip and other parts. if they still work, you can save some money and just get a new mobo hopefully. otherwise...you're kinda screwed.

by the way...if you can, try to avoid hp. they are seriously going down in terms of quality and warranty support. gateway, lenovo, acer, and a few other brands are now the way to go.

but that's a side note...yeah...get a new motherboard first. sorry about that...not exactly a very pleasant thing to have happen to you, let alone to have someone tell you what you feared most....i wish you the best.

I have a y70-70 touch laptop that I just purchased this past August of 2015 (not even a year old). Around midnight on Friday I accidentally spilled less than half a glass of water on the left half of my keyboard. It took a few seconds to register what happened, then I immediately hit the power button, unplugged my mouse and charger, and grabbed a large bath towel to wipe the water away. I flipped the laptop upside down to try draining any water that may have gotten inside and waited about 20-30 minutes before hitting power button to see if it worked (which I probably should NOT have done). A blue screen appeared, in which Windows gave me options about troubleshooting before the system shut itself down (not the blue screen of death but a regular Windows kind of screen). After that, I left it alone until the next day when I attempted to see if it would work yet again, only this time, the computer didn't even boot up. The only thing that turned on was the fans inside the laptop, which only stayed on until I release the power button. No lights blinking, no other normal humming or whurring a laptop would typically make, just the fans. I was confused and thought maybe it was just trying to dry itself out still so I let it sit yet another night. I tried turning it on this morning (Sunday) and it did the same thing with the fans. I've researched many different articles and based on what I've read, I've either goofed up my laptop so bad with turning it on that it won't work anymo... According to https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/docksSearch/ the Lenovo T480 20L6 laptop is compatible with the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station. However the docking station uses an entirely different power supply than the laptop (the old blocky rectangular one vs the newer mini rounded rectangle). The laptop itself fits on the docking station, but does not charge despite the docking station being plugged in. There are two connector slots on the dock that appear to be for the newer power supply, however neither of those provide power either. Is the docking station incorrectly listed as compatible when it really isn't, is there a hardware malfunction, or something else entirely?

I spilled about half a cup of water on my laptop keyboard. Immediately unplugged, soaked up visible water with towel, propped laptop upside down to let the water drain out. At first, in my frantic state of mind, I thought I should leave the battery in to keep the fans running and blow evaporated moisture out. Read an article that said I should take out the battery, turned around, and saw that the screen had gone black. I took the battery out. I now have it propped upside-down with fans blowing on it from above and below.

I've read some articles, but they just tell me what to do right away. What I really want to know is, assuming I get it all dried out, what are the odds that the laptop will be okay? I mean, it's just water, not coffee or soda or anything.

UPDATE: Just checked the ingredients on another bottle of the same water. Purified water, calcium chloride, and sodium bicarbonate. Hopefully residual calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate will not destroy my computer over time.

Hi Lenoovoo,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would rather that you remove the battery and take it to a service center for general cleaning informing them of the immediate concern about the water spill. Do not attempt to power it on as tools may be needed to safely dry it up internally avoiding other issues.
How to Locate a Repair Center or Service Provider

If you have such skill and tools then you can use the hardware manual here a reference guide.

Hope this help answer your query.

I don't know what to do to fix this problem but I guess to buy another panel?I appreciate any help and sorry for the long post also would appreciate if someone can point out what kind of models to buy since i would like to buy the parts from eBay or a site you suggest  my laptop is 15.6 inches but that is all I know for now

Hi everyone, I spilled water over my laptop about one week ago. At first, the keyboard was working perfectly, but the next day, some keys were connected (when pressing one, it would display 2 characteres). After some time, those keys that were connected, stopped working at all. It hasn't changed since then.  I am living in USA but my laptop was bought in Spain (it has spanish keyboard), and Lenovo US told me that they can't fix it here, I would have to send it to Spain, which is really expensive.  Is there any other way to fix it? I read online that water can't damage the keyboard, but it has been broken for 1 week, so I don't know if I have been unlucky. Also, the laptop works perfectly with an USB keyboard. Thanks.

Water can certainly damage the keyboard.  There are 2 layers of conductive film and water gets inside.  That seems crazy that they cannot get a Spanish keyboard in the U.S.  I would try to get a second opinion.

Hi, I just purchased a new T480 Thinkpad for work, which is a great computer. Unfortunatly the model I have does not have the backlit keyboard. The specific model I have is a 20L5000WUS. On the Lenovo support I do not see any option in the replacement parts for a backlit keayboard. If I purchase a backlit keyboard for a different T480 sub-model, will it work? Thanks,Nic

I have looked at the HMM for this model but it is not clear as to how to replace the keyboard. I would like a video that shows the steps if possible so I don't break this laptop that is still under warranty. Thanks!

My 1.5 years old sun spill half of a glass, with Coca Cola inside on ThinkPad Yoga keyboard.I did turn it upside down, went to BIOS and disconnect battery power. Yoga was functional whole time and did not have any problems with liquid in keyboard. I did pull bottom bezel and disconnect battery and left yoga upside down in rice until morning.I was terrified and angry on myself why I did not stick to T series with water drain keyboard. In morning I powered it up, and everything was OK, except sticky keyboard keys (Why I?m drinking Cola, water is so much better and healthierJ)I was thinking to disassembly whole thing and clean keyboard, but this is not a simple job according to hardware maintenance manual. Then I tried to clean keyboard with compressed air, and it helped, but not at once. I spent 3 packs of air to get back key press feel like it was before spill (Few nights spray it and left it upside down). Finally advice:If you have ThinkPad Yoga and work at home with little kids around, have prepared compressed air bottle. If I was clever enough to clean keyboard before Cola dried I think I would be fairly better and easier to clean keyboard.God job Lenovo for water resistant ThinkPad Yoga keyboard! Now fix OneLink dock port flapping issue JRegards!

Hi community! Yesterday, I accidentally spilled coffee (no sugar and only a little bit of milk) in my ThinkPad T430.it was plugged in the charger, and as soon as I spilled coffee the computer shut down (the coffee reached the bottom of the screen)I took off the battery and the keyboard, cleaned a bit and now the computer is drying.when I opened there was coffee around but apparently it didn't reach the mother board. I am almost sure it won't turn on again due to the fact it instantly shut down when the coffee touched the keyboard. However, I Hope you can give me more positive views on my computer's situation? Is there any chance to save it?  ThanksNymsai

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T440. I have replaced the trackpad with an older style trackpad, after putting everything back together it seemed as if everything was fine, but then I noticed that the delete key, PgUp, PgDn and PrtSc were not working. Note, the delete key does not respond even when I'm in the BIOS. I find it very hard to believe that I've damaged the keyboard and thus the functionality of some keys has been lost, I have examined the connecting ribbon cable and connection socket carefully, they are undamaged and free of debree. Can anyone give me any other suggestions? An external USB keyboard works fine.Delete Key doesn't work in BIOS.
