Log/Software of all internet requests?

Q: Log/Software of all internet requests?

I want to find out what URL/IP is being requested by some software. Do I need software to do this? Is there a log on my computer already? What can I do?
btw, sorry if my terminology is not correct, I don't really know what I am taking about hahaha

Preferred Solution: Log/Software of all internet requests?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some third party firewalls can be configured to log every outgoing connection.

Parental Control software may also be able to log connections.

Most routers will have a log of some kind, but will only show which PC made the connection, not which application on a PC

You can use the netstat command in a Command Prompt as well:
Click Start | Run (or press WinKey+R), type cmd, press Enter.
Type netstat -b and press Enter.

This will show all current connections and the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) (if it can determine it), and the executable file that is associated with it.
(For Vista and later, you must also use the -F switch to get the FQDN and it must be run from an elevated prompt).

You can redirect the output to a file, and specify an interval and it will repeat every X seconds until you press CTRL+C
netstat -b 60>>"%Userprofile%\Desktop\ConnectionLog.txt"

Every day I encounter a similar popup message from my Firewall. A Windows something (i.e. Company: Microsoft) is trying to connect to the internet. The source executable, while usually different each day, is always located in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp.
Since it's Microsoft, I assume it has something to do with Windows 7 so I click "Allow". Anybody know if this is risky or not? Is there any way I canavoid these daily prompts?

Be cautious. Any file can claim to be microsoft. The location of that file (in temp) and the fact that it changes makes me suspicious.

I would run a thorough anti virus scan.

I'm having a problem with my computer.Since this morning, all programs (that I know of) that access the net give the error "{program} has encountered a problem and needs to close" when doing so. Some programs include:Internet Explorer (which is strange because when I start windowsupdate.microsoft.com from my start menu it works without a problem) gives this errorOutlook Express (takes slightly longer to give error)AVG Antivirus (when updating, and which I believe now crashes the entire computer (shuts down) if I leave it scanning away)Mozilla FirefoxOperaSpybot S & D (when trying to 'update')Hopefully you can see the correlation. In addition to this, I can simply drag the error window out of the way and continue using the program just fine. What I found this morning at first though, was an error on startup (of XP) saying that 'radio.exe' had crashed in the same way. I checked through and found a new exe, radio.exe, all alone, in C:\Program Files\Free Radio\, so naturally, I deleted it.So far I've also tried:Updating ethernet card driverRemoving Office 2000Removing a program I didn't recognise in Add/Remove, called something like 'Dream{something} DLL'....to no avail.Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?

Welcome to BC! Your computer is exhibiting signs of being infected.I would recommend following the Preparation Guide to posting a High Jack This log. You may not need to actually post a log, however. If you follow the instuctions in the Preparation Guide faithfully then your computer may be cleaned. However, rarely is a computer infected with only one thing, and it is possible that not all of the problems will be get removed using this method.PREPARATION GUIDEYou could also try EWIDO:Download Ewido Anti Malware it is a trial version of the program.Install ewido anti malwareLaunch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.The program will now go to the main screenYou will need to update ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click updateThen click on Start UpdateThe update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.Ewido manual updatesOnce the updates are installed do the following:Click on scannerClick on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives. You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.If after completing all of t... A:Connecting to internet but ping/tracert requests time out

Are you actually having any problems or is it just the ping fails?

The sites, and routers between you and them, have probably been configured to ignore ICMP Echo requests (as used by PING and TRACERT) as while it may only be 4 packets of data to process, if thousands of people try it at the same time the servers and routers cannot perform the functions they are designed for.

i couldnt think of how to describe it for the title easily and I am about to go home to maybe tomorrow I will work it out.

My Vista box is currently demonstrating curious behaviour. When I open IE7 I select a favorite and it opens a new window with that favorite in it. If I do a search with my default provider in the original window, the search results appear in a new tab in the second window.

The second window does not display this behaviour. It works normally with my standard settings - open favorites in the current tab.

Again, favorites chosen in the first window continue to appear in the second window. Search results too.

Running IE7 in safe mode stops this behaviour but I have not installed any new software and I have removed all my temporary internet files/addon settings etc.

Any ideas would be great. Funny old game eh

Hello, My computer is Lenovo ThinkPad X250, working with Windows 10. I have a problem since a few days: the computer seems to work fine, except that no program needing to access internet, such as Windows Live Mail, Skype or Internet Explorer can launch. It is not as if they launch and can?t connect to internet, they simply show their loading screen forever upon activation. The only way I?ve found to interact with them is to close them via the Task Manager. Other programs such as Powepoint or Illustrator launch and run without problem. This problem started recently, and may or may not have been cause by another issue that I had a few days prior. I will sum it up here for clarity?s sake:-The first problem that I had was a sudden eternal starting loop with blue screen from Windows itself upon starting the computer.-I rebooted in safe mode, restored the system to a previous version, and the computer worked fine for about a week.-Then I had the same problem again, except this time restore system didn?t work. On the blue screen I noticed that the error was caused by ?SPUVCbv.exe?, which after an internet search proved to be related to the integrated camera driver.-I launched the computer in safe mode, uninstalled the camera driver, and the problem of Windows rebooting endlessly stopped. However since then, I have the problem, for which I now require assistance, of the internet-related programs failure to launch. Up to now, I verified/tried ... I certainly appreciate your position. Indeed you are correct that I originally posted a request for assistance on another forum. After getting a reply from another user on that forum and nothing from the moderators for 2 days I decided to post on your site/forum...thinking that the user reply had suggested to the moderators on the other site that I was already receiving assistance.I have since received a request for my HJT log and info files from the other site so I will rely on them for assistance, My apologies for any confusion this may have caused. It was not my intent. More it was my misunderstanding of how these forums work.Thank you again and again, my apologies for duplicate postings. It was not my intent to over-tax either forum. I was simply getting impatient and after some reading thought erroneously that the user reply to my original post suggested to them that I was already receiving assistance when I was not.

Please read this carefully before posting.
The idea:
This thread is meant to collect user's request of new features to add to Windows 7, or to bring back features that were taken out since XP / Vista, and are sorely missed.
The idea is to create a list that MS might want to take a look at.
For this to have a chance, we need to keep the thread clean, and free of unnecessary comments and discussions.
So we need a set of rules.
The rules:

   Information

1. No rants, no debates or discussions, no personal comments, no reactions to other posters, no MS bashing, period!

2. Maximum of 10 lines. So make sure your post is clear and to the point.
One or two words more won't matter, but don't push your luck.

3. Posting of screenshots is allowed to clarify your point.

4. No utopian requests, keep it reasonable.

5. Double posts and posts with features already requested by others will be deleted.

6. Adding a reason why you want it is allowed, but remember the 10 line rule.

7. If a user posts a problem that can be fixed, no help allowed other than saying poster should open a thread about his problem.

   Warning

Not complying with these simple rules, will get your post removed.

   Information

1. Please examine the list to see if your request is already there.

2. Please think about what you're requesting is a good thing for less knowledgeable users.

It's time for me to replace my old HP 200LX, and I can't seem to find a PDA that is suitable. Here are my search criteria:

I am 50 & my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
I need a decent sized display (Palm Pilot types are
too tiny).

Besides the usual PDA (calendar, contacts, etc.), I want
to be able to run some Excel spreadsheets. My spread-
sheets can be robust, so I prefer a landscape display,
not the portrait shape of Palm Pilot type PDAs). Bonus
points for syncing up with my Quicken on my PC.

Connecting & syncing with my Windows PC is a good
idea. This device should augment my PC, not replace it.
(I do use MS Outlook).

My handwriting is horrible -- I need a keyboard, but
the keyboard can be small -- I don't mind hunting &
pecking on the PDA. I also don't mind navigating with
arrow keys.

Ideally, I'd like something about the size of a paperback book. I don't want a full sized laptop -- laptops are a bit big & too expensive. Finally, it would be nice if the device had modern conveniences, like ability to play MP3 files, surf the net, play some basic games, etc. I also wouldn't exclude from consideration any PDA / cell phone combination (although I don't have/use a cell phone yet).

Thanks in advance.run some Excel spreadsheets

Is there a place that we can leave feedback or requests for the ATA product?

There are a few things i would like to see changed.

1.  Alerting
We get alerts during backup windows that the ATA cant keep up but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with CPU or RAM.  In addition, we have no users in the system at that time so i find it very hard to believe
that this is true.  I would like to set time windows where we can exclude these alerts or maybe thresholds where if it is seeing that for 5 minutes, 10 minutes etc.
2.  Email Audience
I would like to be able to say these types of emails go to this distribution list and those go to another so that we keep the number of alerts the team gets down a bit.
3.  Suspicious Activity
When we get an alert warning of suspicious activity and click the link to take a look, the first thing you have to do is answer whether it is normal or not, but we cant click the link to see the suspicious activity unless
we open the excel file in the email.  This should be adjusted.

A:IE 8 requests to run add-ons on websites

You can safely run Adobe flash player. That warning is just to let you know that this add-on was already there and asks you to confirm that you want to run it.
Its up to you if you want to decide for every site apart with flash-content if you want to run it or if you want to enable it for all sites. Its no security risk to allow it for all sites.

I suspect some kind of phishing bug but I am not sure what might cause this issue.
In the 17 years since I started using a computer I have gotten only a few requests to log into the server when I opened my email client. It has been more than a decade since I saw one.
In mid October this happened randomly and I ignored it. Instead I opened my properties folder and checked each tab and closed it. Then I was able to get my email.
After that I think the next day maybe a couple of days later it came back only this time it wouldn't let me get my email when I checked the properties. I ran an MSE scan and it seemed to fix the problem.
Then a week later the same thing happened. This time checking properties and doing an MSE scan had no effect. I was able to send a test email but I did not receive it. I ran an ESET online scan. This seemed to "fix" whatever was causing the log in request. Since about 28 Oct until today there was nothing then this morning it has come up again with a twist; When I check the properties folder my user name and password lines were blank!
I am running an MSE scan and ESET is on deck to run right after. I feel like I am getting a bug from somewhere that is raising a false need to log in so that my password can be gotten. IDK ?????

The network that I am currently trying to patch up is peer to peer with about 20 machines (win 98 and nt workstation). The company is not willing to switch to a server based configuration at this point. However I am trying to do as much centralized administration as possible.
I want to be able to view the connections (net watcher) to any given computer on the network from one 98 machine. It was easy to set this up on all of the 98 machines, how can I view this information on the nt boxes from the 98 machine. When I try to access the nt machines with net watcher it tells me that the computer does not accept remote requests. If this is not possible can you tell me how to view this information on all of the nt boxes from one nt box.

Thanks,
Monty

Just wondering if anybody could help me out with this issue I am having. In Outlook is there a way to CC: people on a task request assigned to someone else without assigning the task to the people on the CC: list? Been trying to locate a way to do this without any success. Thanks again guys

Folks

On my work computer whenever I use google to search for something it retains what I have typed so that when I begin to type initial letters a string of past requests drops down, which is distracting. I know it is there to save me having to retype common requests but.... I'm not that busy and it is a nuisance. Is there anyway I can disable this function?

Look forward to hearing how to do it.

I've spent the last hour or so looking over several pages of these activation threads and haven't found one that addresses the problem I've recently had with my Win8 x64 activation. My copy of "8.0" Win8x64 has been activated since I bought it direct from Microsoft in January for $39.99 and burned the iso to DVD and installed it (This post does not concern "8.1" as I installed that on another partition entirely just to play with until it is ready for prime time.) I also got the free copy of Windows Media Center with its separate key. For the past six months I've had no problems at all relative to activation. I've actually never had any problems with activation (that I couldn't fix pretty quickly) ever since Microsoft initially started doing its activation bit with its OSes several years ago.

Yesterday, (I've listed my system specs) I'd been experimenting with using my UEFI bios to push the clock rates for my cpu with an attendant .15V rise in power to the cpu core--standard clock is 3.5GHz with Turbo to 4.1GHz--and I incrementally moved the cpu clock to 4.515GHz and turned off Turbo mode (of course), and found that my idle temps while running AMD's Cool 'n Quiet mode (through a UEFI setting) averaged 38C-45C; and ~55C under load (@4.515GHz), which is not much different at all from the standard stock-clocked temps. OK, that's as it should be for a well-binned, good-yielding chip, etc. It overclocks well with very little resistance... Read more

Hi waltc,

Wow, you really know how to write a book with no stone left unturned! Anyway, since you have had 0 responses from the forum, I decided to just throw in my two cents. First off, my reactivations have been much more simple than yours; however, I can tell you that I have been successful every time. Some of these reactivations have included major components and the phone reactivation has always worked for me but the key to success in this area is, when they start to ask you questions, always respond with "one" as the answer. Now, since nobody knows for sure what information MS collects to identify an installation configuration, you can probably expect more of the same down the road but since Win 8 Pro is actually a retail license you should be able to get through a reactivation time and time again (if necessary). Remember, the answer is always "ONE." Cheers.

This occurs at Arrisi.com. Arris is Motorola's cable modem sub-company, and is the official site for info on specific Motorola and Arris modems. Sometimes pages load fine, sometimes a page gives me the message " dotDefender Blocked Your Request"

Reloading the page yields the same message, but navigating to the same page from a google search seems to work fine- i.e. page displays and no such message.

Also, sometimes pages at Tom's Hardware will give me a "Suspicious Activity Detected!" warning, and require me to enter a captcha in order to see a page.

I have Norton Security Suite, and scan fairly regularly with MBAM. I am certain my drives and OS are malware free. Is this anything to worry about?

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude D630 model laptop that is having problems with memory dumps (BSOD). One thing I recently discovered is that it happens pretty consistantly when removing and returning to the docking station though I don't know why. As far as troubleshooting, so far I have ran the dell diagnostics which came back clean, I also tried to reinstall fresh windows. Then put a new hard drive and reinstalled windows again. Still no luck. The laptop is still under warranty so had Dell replace the physical memory and the motherboard this still didn't help.

If its still under warranty SEND IT BACK!!! Thats what the warranty is for.

Whenever I plug a device into a USB port it says cannot proceed without formating the device, even though the device (photo card, flash drive, etc) always worked before. I don't dare format the device because I don't want to lose the information stored. I've tried everything I can find and still cannot solve the problem. Sure do need help.
Operating system is Windows 7, 64 bit pro. Exployer 9. Every thing else seems to be working OK except after updating my drivers the other day Exployer 9 seems to have problems downloading many graphic displays from websites. May be entirely different problem not connected to USB problem as that started more recently. USB is my main problem. I work from home so I'm usually around the computer much of the day or evening.

Hello,

I have an old but useful application that is attempting to access an internet IP address that has changed. I've used netmon and found that the application doesn't make a DNS query beforehand (so I can't redirect using the hosts file). I've also verified that the IP isn't configurable for the app (it must be compiled into the binary). The params for the query are the same at the new address, it's just the IP that has changed.

How can I force the windows IP stack to redirect the requested IP to the new one?

A:Redirecting outbound IP requests

I'd guess that the route command might do it, but I've never actually tried it.

A:do not recognize update requests that pop up

> Recently I am seeing these pop up's for updating.   Are they safe?> 1.  Evernote> 2.  7-Zip> 3.  Out of date driver detected> How do I know when a pop up is safe to download? They are "safe", but they are commonly called 'PUP' (Potentially Unwanted Programs). Chances are that you do NOT need any of these programs on your computer. Also, some of these 'PUPs' will ask you to "pay for a subscription".  Do not! I would access "Add/Remove Programs", click to select each program, and click "uninstall".

Fss.exe is an excellent program, can't sing its praises enough. That being said, it can be a bit tricky to get the issues fixed once you've identified them. This post is two things - The first is a description of how I take the information provided by FSS and manage to fix machines without a corresponding uninfected machine of the same flavor of windows. The second is a request for the developer to add in some features to make this process easier.
For anyone who's unfamiliar, the app is available at http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FSS.exe
This can identify missing registry keys needed for internet connectivity, firewall, or system restore, and it also checks the MD5's of the associated files in system32 and system32/drivers.

If you've identified missing keys, you're going to need copies of the right keys. I've found someone else who compiled a zip for each type of windows covered. http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/files/download/9-registry-network-keys/
While this has all the keys, you may need to edit permissions, in particular on the legacy keys, to be able to use the reg file.

If FSS identifies the firewall's turned off, just turn it back on using regedit (change the 0 to a 1 at the location in the fss.txt)

Next we get to the sys, dll, and exe files that get md5 checked. These are all available in windows CD's in compressed files which can be opened with 7zip. For windows XP these are available on the CD at i3... Read more

A:FSS tips, tricks, and requests.

While this has all the keys, you may need to edit permissions, in particular on the legacy keys, to be able to use the reg file. I will let Farbar answer the rest, but I want to make one note. I know a lot of people feel its necessary to recreate the legacy keys. The reality is that there is just no reason to replace them. Instead your better off just deleting the legacy key altogether and reboot. The legacy keys will then be recreated when the service starts.

Hi I havent posted here in quite some time.. I have a question regarding my home network..
According to Shields Up my computer is pretty much in Stealth Mode.. everything was good except it did respond to  ping requests.. should I disable this for added security,or does it really matter? I take great care to minimize the risk of malware and so forth and have good encryption on my network.. I really want to be as safe as humanly possible. Thanks in advance.

A:Should I Disable Ping Requests ?

Can you provide more details about your network setup?

Is it like the classic setup: computer - router/modem - Internet
Does your computer have a private IP address (like 192.168.*.*)?

The device manager is asking for a driver to be installed  for a class compliant device (Casio USB MIDI controller) and gives me error 28 (driver not installed). No driver is needed for this device per Casio. This is a new developement, it worked for a year or more. I am using Pro-Tools version 11.1 which includes virtual instruments only accesible via a midi controller. I thought the Casio may have failed so I bought an M-Audio controller, also class compliant and got the same message, install a driver. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
