Moving rectangles with handles in VB6

Q: Moving rectangles with handles in VB6

I have searched and searched and can not find out to create movable rectangles with handles. i know how to create movable polygons with handles. i have trouble when it comes to keeping the corners and sides correct angles and lengths.

Preferred Solution: Moving rectangles with handles in VB6

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you talking about at run-time? And if so, what code are you moving your polygons with?

By using a photograph taken with a 12megapixel camera, i want to be able to chop it into about 9 rectangles of equal size, and then print these equal parts of the photo as 6x4 to be used as a postcards- once these photos have all been recieved they can be joined together as one, and the end result will be the original photo.
How can i cut the original picture equally & print each little part as a 6x4 print and for it to be clear?
what software can do it ?

A:how to chop it into about 9 rectangles

This is trivial for most any photo editor. They all crop. You do need one that shows the dimensions of the crop so you can do it without guessing.

What camera are you using. Your 4x6 post card format is a 3:2 aspect ratio (horizontal/vertical). If your camera happens to shoot in a 3:2 ratio (some do), the cropping is easy as you basically divide eveything by 3. But many cameras shoot in a 4:3 ratio, and they cannot be divided into 9 rectangles each with a 3:2 ratio unless you toss out the top and lower portions of the image.

You could always resize the original image to a 3:2 ratio with software before cropping, but that will distort thing and make people short and squat, etc.

Can't help with the software. You probably want free software with a crop tool that indicates the pixel dimensions. I know it exists, but I don't use any free photo edit software, just the store bought stuff.

I do a lot of drawing in Visio and would like some help finding or making 3D rounded rectangles.

Now, I know how to make a rounded rectangle and I know how to use the gradient fill to give the "top" of the rectangle a shine, in a fake 3D sort of way. That would be good enough IF ONLY the gradient were limited to the very top of the rectangle.

Now, the closest solution I have devised is to group three rectangles. A narrow narrow rectangle at the top, using gradient 30, and a solid fill rectangle of similar size at the bottom and laid atop both a solid square rectangle.

To clarify, the top and botton rectangles give the rounded appearance and the top has the gradient for the lighting effect, while the middle rectangle creates th illusion that there is only one rounded rectangle by overlapping the top and bottom at the vertical half-way point on each.

The middle rectangle can also then accept text for this grouped object. The solid coloring of the middle rectangle is important for the look, giving only the overall (grouped) top edge the appearance of the lighting effect.

The problem with this solution is that it needs to be repeated anytime a color change is desired. When changing the fill color on the group, odd things happen to the colors in the gradient, so it no longer looks right.

I'd rather buy than build, and I'd rather buy open-source, so if you have a recommendation, I'd love to hear it.

Otherwise, can anyone provide instructions (easy to foll... Read more

Over a period of time a number of tiny yellow rectangles have appeared on my desktop, usually near icons. Put curser on them, double arrow. Move arrow one way, nothing, move arrow other way and rectangle will stretch to side of screen, return arrow and curser pulls rectangle back to original size. I cannot get rid of them. On my 27" monitor rectangles look like squares. This is true whether it is a page border or a drawn graphic.
Help please. resolution is at 1856 x 1392

Thanks in advance

A:rectangles appear like squares on 27" monitor - Win 7

You need to set the monitor to it's native resolution, probably 1920 x 1080.

Most likely the monitor is a 16 x 9 ratio and 1856 x 1392 is 4 x 3 which gives a distorted view.

I tried searching these forums, but for this problem it's hard to know effective search terms.
In the latest version of Chrome, but also in Opera, I often get black rectangles, at other times rectangles repeating part of the web page from higher up. See attached two images. If I change to a different tab and back again it normally, but not always corrects itself. Sometimes it can take a few goes. Also, hovering over the rectangles with the mouse pointer often makes the rectangles disappear, but not always.
It only started happening a month or two ago. I don't think I've installed any new software or anything, which could have made this happen. I have turned off hardware acceleration in both browsers, as is recommended by some to help solve similar problems. But to no avail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, as it is getting a bit distracting. Happens many times when browsing.
On the first image, please ignore the fact that it shows a search for a word... this is not related to the problem. I just happened to be doing a search when I took the screen dump. The second image shows black rectangles (on a forum I didn't end up posting on). The problem used to be just black rectangles, but this week it started showing rectangles with the repeated parts of the page (shown on first image.)
I use Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2 ... which I've always found very good.

A:Strange random rectangles

How about IE and Firefox ? Have you tried other browsers ? I'm just asking to see if it's browser related or computer software/hardware.

Hey everyone, I am having a slight issue with what I am assuming is my video card. I have a Powercolor HD7870 Tahiti MYST Edition and on some screens I will get these random rectangles that show up. I have a few pictures to show what I am talking about.

It almost always happens when I am on Twitter and most other websites dont have this issue. It is more annoying than anything else, it doesn't seem to affect anything but I figured that I would post here and hope that it isn't a big issue.

A:Random Rectangles scattered on some screens.

Printscreen was able to show it so it's not a severe issue.
It's on the site, the browser so maybe acceleration is turned off.

It can be due to scrolling and rendered stuff is badly put into place.
Does refresh page work?

Just make sure the graphics drivers are up to date and the browser as well.

I have got a problem on my Acer Aspire One AO751h. I don't exactly know how to describe it but it's like small rectangles flicker on my taskbar, also when I hover my mouse through items in my Start Menu, flickering kind of things appear on the borders of each item I mouse-over. I think the problem started after I installed the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500, which is the latest version of the driver. The funny thing is, at times it flickers to the way I

I've just installed the Release Preview x86_64 German on my Thinkpad X100e. At first glance, also the printer installation (network printer) worked fine. However, when I actually print some text (test page, document, whatever) the printer only prints rectangles of different size instead of letters. Images seem to work fine. I suspect that I have to install some additional printing fonts, but so far I could'n find anything on the web. Does somebody have the same problem? Do you happen to have any suggestions?

A:Lexmark E120n printer: Rectangles instead of letters

maybe you have solved this allready- but I found the same issue when installing a new computer at home with Windows 8 Home Premium 64 bit. It found the printer (a Lexmark E120n on the home LAN) and everything went smooth with the install- except that text was corrupted on the printouts! Small black boxes instead of letters X-(

I visited Lexmarks homepage to find a driver for E120n under Windows 8- but they just referred to the operating systems own driver (which obviously does not work!)

Anyway- the solution to my problem was to install Lexmarks Universal Print Driver and use that to install my printer on the computer.
I found this software here:

Hello all!

We've been having some problems with Word here in the office, and this forum is our last hope!

When opening a file that contains bullet points, one of our computers insists on displaying those little empty upright rectangles that you often see if your system is trying to display Chinese characters it can't read. But these are standard Word bullets, not any special shapes. It is also impossible to highlight them, for example, and get them to change to normal bullets. And it isn't all the bullets, only some of them, although we haven't been able to discern a pattern.

When this file is then sent to another computer, it also displays the rectangles. Sometimes. Sometimes not. It's all very mysterious.

Please help the clueless! We want to print the file, but do not want rectangles in it!

ETA: I have some more info on when the rectangles occur. They also occur instead of the greater-than-or-equals-to symbol and the degree symbol. When you delete the rectangle and type in the unicode key combo for the symbol, however, it displays perfectly.

Hi, so I've been having a little trouble lately playing a game called 'Guild wars', I usually play it on full resolution, but recently I've encountered a graphical bug, where some graphics are replaced with grey rectangles. Graphics options of the game do nothing EXCEPT changing the anti-aliasing option. At none, I see rectangular boxes, at 2x the boxes change to smaller squares and at 4x the squares invert.
This problem seems to also reach to youtube videos - when I go into full screen I see verticle lines.
Hope someone can give me some good advice! Thanks.

Video driver is a RADEON X600 256MB HYPERMEMORY

Sorry for posting in a general PC forum - the game is out of date now and the problem spans further - It's just easier to see in the game!

Start orbs are fine, I suppose, but I like the good old rectangles that didn't stick up above the task bar(small icons means that stupid orb hides part of window). I tried one program, but it only allowed me to make orbs or squares, no such thing as a rectangle.

Any free program to change that orb to a rectangle?

Idealy, I'd like to use the classic start menu button, the rectangle, instead of the orb with the normal windows 7 theme, but I haven't figured out how to do that.

It would be fun to have a custom rectangle but I'd be fine with the default microsoft one.

Hello, Im not sure if this is in the right category. but here we go. Im not sure about the program or file though So next time it pops up ill write it down.

So, I am a little bit worried what is causing this all of a sudden, hopefully not a virus or something of that matter.

I have 3 symptoms:
(1) Strange rectangles with words like "COPY", "CUT", "EXIT" remains on Windows Screen. The only way to remove it is to re-boot WINDOWS. This happens after I did those (COPY, etc.) actions.
(2) I am not able to use "X" (right top) to exit the program. Then the above rectangle with "EXIT" remain on the screen. The only way to end the program is to use "TASK MANAGER" to end the program. (I prefer not to do this too often.)
(3) When I leave WINDOWS inactive for long time, it stalls. I had to re-boot to start WINDOWS. I decided to turn off "Screen Saver" to see if it is the cause.

Are these 3 symptoms related? My WINDOWS/XP is SP3, maintenance is current.

I just installed Windows 7, and there are mostly 2 things I dislike so far:

1) Instead of trying to explain this, I'll just start with a picture :

As you can see, when I put my mouse on a thumbnail, it hides all windows and it displays a full size preview of that item, but it also leaves empty windows frames of open windows visible, which I find very ugly and can't think of a decent reason to exist (I'd just hide everything..., or nothing...).

Do you also have this? Is there any way to keep the popup preview but hide those ugly empty rectangles?

2) I never liked the "new" way to organise the control panel, I always chose classic view, but I can't find how to set it.

any idea?

thank you

A:empty rectangles in taskbar preview and no classic view

That's Aero peek. You could disable it, you'll still have the thumbnail previews, but they won't show the full window in the background when you mouse over the preview window, unless you click on it. Or you could just leave it on, and click Show Desktop on the far right taskbar. That will still give you the thumbnail previews, but not show all the transparent windows in the background.

The Control Panel you can change up at the top right of the control panel where it says Category/Large/Small icons View.

So I upgraded this morning from 8.1 to 10, so far I really like it.

I am curious about how Windows 10 handles it's updates? In 8.1, I could go into control panel, and double click on windows update, and it would find any available updates ( usually defender on a daily basis) and then some routine updates usually monthly. I always preferred to select the updates I wanted to install and then install them on my own time.

Don't know that I see a way to do this in Windows 10? I did find under settings, where I could choose to only download from Microsoft and to notify me rather than automatic - does that accomplish the same thing? Will it notify me and allow me to choose the updates I want to install?

I know sometimes previously in 8.1 updates might find some hardware drivers and offer them, I always get those from my hardware vendors, don't really want to be getting those from MS.

I am sure as time goes by this will become more clear to me, just curious now more than anthing.
Thanks for any tips,

A:Question on how Win 10 handles updates?

Windows 10 is taking a different approach and bundling updates together. Also, it is automatically installing them and taking much of the user interaction away. This could be good in that security vulnerabilities are patched no matter what (so long as you are internet connected), but some see it as a suppression of choice.

There are some things you can prevent updating automatically, such as other MS products, and you can also defer upgrades till later.

In addition, you are able to select that you do not want to have device drivers install automatically (found in device installation settings).

Hope this was helpful!

A:Winlogon.exe Leaking Handles

Hi Kevin,Looks like a mess. My suggestion, reinstall. I know that is a major pita when it comes to Terminal Services and setting up all the apps again, but with a hack you never know what they did. Can we clean up all the running malware, yes, but we will not be able to tell if any policy changes have been made, registry settings that lower your sam account enumeration, etc etc. So with all of that said, I seriously suggest you reinstall. If on the other hand, you want me to move forward and help you clean up the machine, I will be more than happy to.Regardless of what you do, do me a favor and submit a file for me.This file :C:\WINNT\system32\yahoo.exePlease submit it at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php?channel=3Just a note, if you want to do this right, you will have to disable terminal services while we fix it as the users logged on will make it difficult to properly clean. Also it is going to be nigh impossible to make sure that you do not get reinfected from programs running on other users profiles. I am willing to give it a try though. Up to you.

I have a VB 6 app that runs fine for about a week, then comes to a halt with a message "unable to allocate image handles".

This seems to me like I have used all the available graphics handles. Any ideas on what I could be doing that is eating handles.

The program cycles one per second, and had several picture controls with a background image, and vb shape lines on top.

When I have a frame or image in Word 97, it will only resize vertically. Using the other handles makes the image go the size of the entire screen. Also you can only drag images to the left, center, or right side of the screen.
Thanks for any help

A:resizing handles Word 97

Try this, Snow, but I'm not promising anything. Cut the picture. Hit Edit-Paste special and select Picture. Now try resizing. If you can't resize it that way, right-click the picture and hit Format picture. Go to the size tab and try it that way. You should lock the ratio first.

According to Task Manager

Two instances of SmartCopy.exe *32 , (1 each for 2 users logged in) have a combined total of 1.8MM File Handles open.

I can't imagine that is normal so what would cause that?

Any suggestions?

A:1.8MM File Handles Open

1) A bug in the app. They don't call CloseHandle() in appropriate places in their code due to some type of synchronisation oversight, most likely between different threads. This can only be fixed by recoding the app and removing the bug.

2) External code injected into the app is buggy and preventing the smooth closure of handles in one or more places in the app's code. This would be something like your anti-virus most likely. Uninstalling the AV temporarily would be a good thing to try.

Utilities like the (Sysinternals) "Process Explorer" and "Handle" can tell you more about the nature of those handles, and (if you've done that type of work before) attaching to the process with a debugger will give you more still. However, if this is not your code, you won't be able to fix the bugs without involvement from the vendor who sold it to you.

Good luck.

I am having a user with a problem accessing a file over a windows share to a server. He has the file open in Excel and is using it, leaves Excel open for some considerable amount of time and then when he goes to do some more work and save it he gets an error about lost writes.

The Yellow popup box in the system tray says:

Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \\servername\e\dir1\dir2\dir3\dir4\94AB7160. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Simultaneously on the server while this problem is occurring I go to check the open share handles and list all the files open over the shares. The file in question that is open above is not listed, so it looks like the share handle was lost and this is possibly why the user gets the error about not being able to write to the file.

There is no problem with permissions, he can save the file locally then copy it over the file at the destination but this sort of workaround should not be necessary. He can also edit the file in place, but it seems that after leaving it a while this weird behaviour happens.

Any ideas on troubleshooting or fixing this behaviour?

After going into a government website site I found that the layout of toolbars had changed.

First, there was just one line, each section being short of items on display (only be accessible by clicking an arrow).

Second, there were no handles to rearrange into two or more lines, which presumably would enable all icons to show.

Thirdly, I had text descrptions against icons. But they have vanished, and when I click the Size Icone / Customise the option to add text to icons is greyed out.

I have tried eveything, included re-starting, but to no avail.

Can anyone help with this please? Thanks.

A:Lost handles on toolbars

Following my original posting, the problem has mostly been resolved, In the course of 'clicking everything' I clicked on the maximise button - the display size reduced and I dragged it back to full size. -Everything but one thing was back to normal! Huge sigh of relief.

However, there is still one mystery - the handles on the toolbar are still missing. Any ideas?

Well here they are, I'm a little hard of english; but I tried to phrase them the best I could:
In Windows 7 Ultimate 64X is their anyway to have another follow in the foot steps of 'explorer.exe' i.e. meaning that it will start or restart another whens starts.

I run an auto text completion program; every so often it goes idle and I have to manually end the process and restart it.. Is their anyway to have the operating system do for me?

I have some pesky co-workers who like torturing me via the remote shutdown commands, and because of Group Policy here at work I cannot go to Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignments: and administratively remove the "admin" from "force shutdown from a remote system". Changing this has been disabled via GP.

To circumvent this i have tried a manual rename in AD and have hidden deep within an obscure OU to prevent them from finding out my computer name. They CAN however physicall go to my computer and at login go to the username field and type ".\" as you know this will print the computer name below.

The question is, is there a way in the registry to remove that dropdown or at the very least prevent it from displaying text?

A:Registry location that handles log on screen

You have a computer hooked to a domain/work group maintain by a administrator. You should not change anything with out permission and help from the administrator and/or I.T. Department.
Report the problem you are having with co-workers and let them handle the problem.

I am having a problem with too many tokens/handles being opened by the svchost.exe process associated solely with the Remote Procedure Call service.

I have just recently installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, and shortly after that, I started having a problem where I couldn't open any application or any file in an open application. When I rebooted, the problem went away for a while, but would eventually come back.

Using Process Explorer, I saw that a svchost.exe process had more than 50,000 handles associated with it. According to Process Explorer, the only service associated with this svchost.exe process is Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [RpcSs].

Once I reboot, there are only a few hundred handles associated with this process, but they increase at a rate of about one per second. About 99% of the new ones are listed in Process Explorer as Type=Token, Name=NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:3e7, Access=0x000F01FF .

These tokens/handles never go away. Once their number increases to about 50,000 or so, I get the problem where I can't open any application or file and I have to reboot.

So, I need some assistance with making this problem stop. I don't know why so many tokens are being opened in the first place or what specifically they are meant to do in this case. I also don't know how to make them go away or at least have the handles close automatically.

Unlike other svchost.exe problems that I've seen posted, I don't get any Windows error messages. Also, it ... Read more

I have a slowing poroblem. I searched SVChosts on TSG and installed Process Explorer and did a scan with MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware. There were only 3 trackinh cookies in the SAS scan.

Today there are now 27,285 Handles, 809 Threads, and 80 programs down from 83 when I first looked at the display. I did not shut anything down.

I'm guessing I have a lot of stuff running that if I were aware of it I would delete. Thing is I don't know a handle from a thread and can't even decifer much of the services running in Task Manager.

On a different subject;
An odd thing as I came here to read up on Handles before posting. I read some then logged in. When I clicked to go to the main forums to post I was logged out. I refreshed and was still logged out. I went back and it appeared I was logged in. I closed the browser window (IE9) reopened the original window with the search for handles logged in the went to forums and unsubscribed from a couple threads which logged me out each time. I finally logged in from the main forums page and came here.
Is that as odd as it seems? I have only been using IE9 for a few days but I'd guessed that it would work the same as IE8 which did not log me out unlesss I clicked on logout from anysite I was signed into.
