I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all Recently I have got a Lenovo V330-15IKB (Model 81AX) and how in my job the compatibility force me to keep the OS as Windows 7, I chosed this laptop because I have seen that still have drivers for Windows 7.I begin install Windows 7 x64, took drivers from Lenovo site, but surprise, first at installing from USB when first didn't work from beginning the touchpad but didn't want to continue install because of USB drivers.I managed to install Windows 7 finally, but the drivers for Touchpad didn't want to work at all, whatever I try.The same is also the drivers for graphical card, nothing works!!!May I have some help to manage these two things working under Windows 7 x64? Many thanks in advance.

A:Lenovo V330-15IKB TouchPad not working in Windows 7 and video card drivers not working

You can try a program called DriverBooster. It can update/install missing drivers and replace faulty drivers. All of the drivers on the program are Microsoft WHQL tested and approved which means they are safe.

Since I am fluent in Spanish went to the Google Translate page, this may be helpful:

I have a Toshiba Satellite A210-11T (PSAEGE). Tired of Windows Vista installed from scratch Windows 7 and I was amazed. I had some small problems of drivers / support that could solve, but two of them still can not get the solution.

The first is the Synaptics TouchPad (mouse on the laptop) that does not work. With no drivers for Windows 7 went down this Toshiba model for Windows Vista but no luck, not down from the Synaptics website.

The other thing is that it does not work the FN key on the keyboard. Bah, the key work for me because a light comes on, but does nothing when combined with the above functions (eg mute, increase or decrease brightness, etc.).

I will appreciate if someone could guide me to solve these two problems.

I'll have a look.

I'm tweaking a laptop owned by a family member. It's the first I've used with Windows 10 and I've found it very glitchy. Notwithstanding, I've sorted everything out to my satisfaction except one problem: the touchpad operated cursor keeps freezing. The tap-to-click feature seems reluctant to behave a lot of the time too.

I've been Googling for fixes now over a week and not totally resolved it so you'll know that driver updates, uninstall/reinstall etc just hasn't worked. Nor has disabling features in the touchpad setup.

This apparently is a well known issue with both Lenovo laptops and I can find no definitive fix.

Here's the setup:

Lenovo Z50 70.
Windows 10
Synaptics touchpad and drivers

I have found a workaround using the simple expedient of a two or three finger tap or switching the touchpad on and off using Fn + F6 but I'd like to put it to bed.

Any ideas?

Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 Laptop (support site)
From what I can determine, it has full driver support(chipset, graphic, audio, ethernet, wireless, touchpad, etc.) for Windows 10 64-bit.
What's the exact serial number on yours?

Does it have any issues when using an external USB or wireless mouse?

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

I was wandering if there are any tweaks I can do to make it load into my system tray quicker. I dont have many things loading at startup so I cant see what the problem is.

I would like it to load in first rather than last.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit system, and have used it for over a year with no problems. This problem started kinda weird out. I was watching a movie, and I paused it to go take a smoke. I came back five minutes later and now I couldn't move the cursor from the touchpad, or barely. I tried deleting the synaptics driver and installing the latest version quite a few times. Here's the thing though, the touchpad works without the driver, though sometimes left click, and right clicking doesn't work, however I'm still able to move the cursor. When I install the synaptics touchpad driver left click and right click works, but I am not really able to move the cursor. I can see the touchpad respons to the pressure of my fingers moving across it, but it doesn't move the cursor along the screen or only a small amount.  I have tried different prressures on the touchpad, but with no luck. The problem occurred a few hours ago.

The touchpad of my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is not working with Windows 8.1 or the newly installed Windows 10. It is neither recognised in the Device Manager, nor the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is listed among the installed programs in the Control Panel. Moreover, when I try to install the latest verion of this driver obtained from the Lenovo website, I am warned that "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed.", and that I should remove it first before continuing. If I try to install this version anyway, the installation is apparently successful, but I still cannot use the touchpad (nor the driver seems to be installed anywhere). What should I do to solve this annoying issue? Many thanks for your attention.

There's always been an issue with the Synaptics touchpad mouse on my IdeaPad Z585 and I have seen quite a few postings of issues with the touchpad on this and other forums. The freezes appear to be mainly related to disk activity: Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements (C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTPSynTPEnh.exe on my system) is often very near the top of disk activity in Task Manager and when the system disk activity "pegs" at 100% for extended periods of time the touchpad--especially the swiping features--becomes unresponsive. Lately the the problems have become more severe, with the freezes--often lasting 5 minutes or longer--occuring even at very modest resource usages, and the only way to avoid a complete restart is to switch to the Guest account using the keyboard. The past few weeks the problems have become quite severe, with multiple 5+ minute freezes and perhaps three quarters of an hour lost working time switching between Guest and my personal login or rebooting. Desperately I searched one more time for a solution and came across Split x2 - Touchpad issue after upgrading to Windows 8.1 - HP Community/Archived Topics/Notebooks Ar... with the accepted solution "this worked for me. Go to Generic USB Hub (both of them) in Device Manager. Go to the Power Management tab Uncheck the box about allowing the computer to turn off this device to save power. Restart. My touch pad had stopped while searching for a solution on... A:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with Windows XP, and the other day when I hard-shutdown the computer and restarted, it booted up with a loud, long beep until I forced it to shut down again. When I restarted, the touchpad no longer functioned, and I've been using a USB mouse since. Also, occasionally the keyboard doesn't function after coming back from hibernating, though a restart fixes this.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, but although the driver appears to have been installed (the Program Files are present, as is the Add/Remove entry), the Synaptics TouchPad is not listed under Device Manager nor is it listed under Device Settings in the Mouse properties under Control Panel. Why isn't the driver fully reinstalling back again?

I've read on other similar problems to try checking to see if power is being sent to these devices under the BIOS, but apparently Compaqs are notorious for being difficult to get into the BIOS, so I haven't had luck doing that yet. System restore to a day prior to the event didn't help. No function keys disable the touchpad, and the touchpad light is white, not red (meaning it's "on"). I'm still under warranty, but if I can fix this without having to wait for it to ship back and forth, that'd be much more preferable.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. My first post! Hopefully NOT one of many.

I recently got a secondhand HP NX9105 laptop. I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP (SP3).

All worked fine, except the touchpad isn’t working.

I could not see a driver for it so I went onto HP support website and downloaded the Synaptics driver (sp35444). The install got interrupted with the message "This Synaptics pointing device installation package does not support one or more of your pointing devices and will not be installed…".

I then tried the Alps driver (sp25796) and that installed (is visible in the Add/Remove Programs), but the touchpad still didn't work and it doesn't appear in either the Device Manager or in Control Panel->Mouse->Hardware tab.

Next I tried to install another version of the Synaptics driver (sp27681). This one installed so I then rebooted the laptop.

The touchpad still doesn't work, but now I have the Synaptics Device Settings tab in my Mouse settings. The problem is that all the buttons are grayed out and no devices are listed.

Is it possible that this is a hardware fault or is there anything else I need to download?

I'm really stuck now, please help...

I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
Hope someone can help me.

My god, I am livid right now. I have a Flex 4, and instead of being able to buy a simple ENTER key or replace the keyboard, Lenovo had me send the whole computer off for warranty service. Great, no cost to me, right?

When I got it back, I got back a computer with MORE problems than I sent it off with. First: a constant nagging "USB Device Not Recognized" popup that disappears and reappears every 20 seconds or so (with the accompanying device unplug/replug sound). Second: the touchpad is completely unusable. Have to mash my whole finger on the pad to move the cursor around (the touchpad was already the worst part of this computer - stupid single-piece thing!), and two-finger scrolling doesn't work.

Looking at the control panel for the Elan touchpad (advanced mouse settings), it reports a "Standard PS/2 mouse", meaning that the underlying hardware is no longer Elan. What happened? Well, I'll take a wild guess: the "PS/2" implementation is partly software emulation, and the BIOS (EFI, ACPI, etc) has it in its head that an ELAN pad is connected, and when the dopes at the warranty service center swapped out the entire body of my computer to replace an Enter key, they put a chassis with a Synaptics touchpad in place of what used to be Elan.

So, BIOS reports to Windows that an ELAN pad is connected, but under the hood, it's actually a Synaptics driver.

When I force-install the Synaptics driver over the Elan one, it works great. Synaptics control pane... Read more

A:Lenovo warranty replaced Elan touchpad with Synaptics, confusing BIOS, can't install.

Big update!

As predicted, the problem WAS caused by the hardware swap, and the BIOS (or firmware) had "cached" the identity of the touchpad module in persistent memory.

However, thankfully, the "Load defaults" function of the BIOS (eh, UEFI firmware) settings page DID actually reset everything - and it prompted the system to re-detect the attached device. So, when I loaded defaults and rebooted (though I'd changed none of the settings in the pages), the system powered off, powered up, powered off again, powered on, booted Windows, and detected the correct device - ACPI\SYN2B89 - a Synaptics touchpad, which auto-installed the correct driver.

This is NOT an OS reinstall (actually, using the OS reinstall/restore would not have fixed this). It does not affect your Windows environment or data in any way.

So, to fix this, for anyone in the future (you might want to pull this up on your phone - here's a QR code):
1) Click Start menu, type "advanced". Select the "Change advanced startup options" item.
2) Under the "Advanced Startup", click the Restart button.

My brand new Lenovo ThinkPad P72 with a fresh install of the latest version of Windows 10 Pro 1903 Build (18362.418) as of the time of writing this thread, FingerPrint worked jsut fine. I reformatted the hard drive and installed a fresh Windows again in the same day, discovered the FingerPrint is not working. All drivers are up to date, Synaptics WBDI - SGX Driver Version (5.3.3538.26) installed from Lenovo Support website https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds502265. When trying to setup Windows Hello Fingerprint from Windows Settings, sometimes the LED of the fingerprint sensor let up and sometiems it does not, but without registering my fingerprint. Anyhelp would be highly appreciated.

Hello,

I want to thank in advance for any responses I get to this thread.

I have a Gateway laptop model MT6840. It has a Synaptics touchpad. A couple of days ago, the touchpad stopped working completely. I took my laptop out of sleep mode, and the icon for the touchpad in the system tray was simply gone. I checked Control Panel: Mouse: Device Settings for the Synaptic touchpad, but all options are merely grayed out, and the device does not register on the computer anymore.

I believe I have tried almost everything. I first tried rebooting. I then tried disconnecting my external mouse and then rebooting. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the Gateway website. I looked on Google, but found nothing of use. Alas, none of these things have worked.

This is a bit frustrating because, although I do have an external mouse, it is much more convenient not to have to bring the external mouse around when I transport it. And since I'm a college student, I need to get around with my laptop quite often.

I don't believe it is anything related to the hardware because it stopped working when the software (apparently) magically disappeared. I would really like to solve this problem.

If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. If there is some detail I should mention that would help, please also let me know.

Thanks,
Minus

A:Gateway MT6840: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Well, I decided to reboot again and go into the BIOS. I did, changing absolutely nothing (even choosing the "discard changes" exit option), logged onto Windows, and the problem was solved.

I have no idea how that worked, but it did.

I can't find a delete thread option, so if an admin is reading this, go ahead and just delete this.

Keep in mind the touchpad still works..just not the gestures and disable/enable square on top left corner of touchpad. And I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver but still no luck..any help will be very much appreciated!

Synaptics control panel report... Read more

Dear everyone, I have just installed fresh copy of Windows 10 and when I tried to install some drivers I was quite surprised that there are no win 10 drivers in general. Most of the stuff on the U400 works as it is after the windows installation but it seems that the Touchpad is not being detected since I cannot install any drivers and Device Manager detects something called PS/2 Compatible Mouse. When I tryied Win 8 drivers it seems to work and I was able to use two-finger scrolling but after couple of minutes the Touchpad would just quit on me and Tap-to-Click would just stop working. Anyway, I would just like some advice on what to do about drivers for U400 on Win 10. Thank you in advance,Nikola

Hey all, I recently installed an SSD in my old y580 laptop and reinstalled windows 10 but windows is registering the touchpad as a mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. As such, the touchpad inputs are far from optimized and no multi-finger gestures are being recognized (including scrolling  ). The previous HDD recently died but definitely used elan/synaptics drivers. I've had this problem occur on other Lenovo laptops and I've seen others posting about it on here, but never for the y580 and I've never been able to solve it. I've downloaded all of the touchpad drivers on the support page for my serial number but none of them go up to windows 10 and all of them result in an error message that reads that the Realtek Bluetooth Suite isn't compatible with this version of windows. I've also downloaded 15-20 different drivers for windows 10 elan/synaptics touchpads from varying newer lenovo laptops but none of them recognize my touchpad either. Any help would be super appreciated.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

For some reason, the Synaptics Touchpad control panel's settings do not save in Windows 10.

A:Synaptics Touchpad vs. Windows 10

Please try the following steps to resolve the issue.1. Click the Start orb, type msconfig in the Start Search box and hit Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.2. Within the System Configuration dialogue box, click the Startup tab.3. Look for any entries named KHALMNPR or similar, and uncheck the box next to them (there may only be one).4. Click OK and restart your computer.

My HP notebook was Windows 10 and was downgraded to Windows 7.   My touchpad is too touchy and I continuously find that it moves around the screen while i am typing.  I thought that I would just disable it.  It shows up on the hardware as a mouse PS2 and it does not have a disable button.  I just deleted the install file but it constantly re-loads on a re-boot.  I love my HP notebook, but the touchpad is driving me crazy, please help me.

A:i have a synaptics touchpad under Windows 7.

Hi: Use the W10 touchpad driver from your notebook's support page. It also has the drivers for W8.1 and W7. That would be the only suggestion I can offer.
