Yoga 900 freeze/timeout while browsing

Q: Yoga 900 freeze/timeout while browsing

After multiple calls to Lenovo support, no satisfaction. Win 10 driver update indicated current network adapter drivers installed. Turns out not so....Intel's web site indicated driver needed update.....after installation, problem solved.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Picked up a 920 today from Best Buy. Overall it is a nice upgrade from my MS Surface Pro 3 with TK4. I have one area I would like to find a solution.  On my Surface, our Macbook and my work Dell, the keyboard backlight, when turned one, will turn off after 5-10 seconds of inactivity. When activity resumes, the light turns back on. Of course you can manually turn the light on and off.  With the Yoga 920, I can only get to either be on / off. What am I overlooking? Jeff

The screen timeout behavior on my Yoga 13 has been rather erratic.   Even though all the power management settings and screensaver settings are set to at least 15 minutes, it will often timeout directly to a black screen in only 1 or 2 minutes of no activity, requiring me to wake it back up and login again. I recently figured out that this does NOT happen if I touch the screen periodically.  Then it seems to function correctly.  For example, after several minutes of inactivity it will actually go to the screensaver.  This NEVER happens if I don't touch the screen and instead use only keyboard and mouse. One thing that might be a factor is that I am using an external wireless USB keyboard and mouse. Either way, the screen timeout is supposed to reset the countdown anytime there is keyboard, mouse or touch input.  This is not happening. Is there a fix for this?

Try removing flash player and see if that might help. Sometimes flash can cause bugs to occur and therefor cause your web browser to freeze/crash. After doing so attempt to reinstall a clean version of flash and update your computer to the most current updates it has available.

Whenever I browse the internet, through Firefox or IE, the browser eventually freezes. This happens about every 10 minutes. After the browser freezes it spreads to the rest of the system. I have the following configuration on an assembled computer:

PHENOM II X4 + Gigabyte GA 88 GMA UD 2H
Seagate HDD 500GB Sata
DDR-3 Corsair x2
HD 6850
Cooler Master SMPS 500W
Windows 7 64-bit

My issue is that computer freezes when I browse the internet with Chrome, Firefox and Explorer. I can work with Explorer with one tab as of now - I can't open more than one because it freezes the entire computer in a minute or two after opening additional tabs.

I have tried System Restore, Registry cleaner, defrag, anti virus scans Mbam scans etc but nothing works.

A few days ago I had shifted the computer to a warmer room and stupidly put the chassis next to an inverter which emits heat. I used to have freezes earlier but it was a rare occurrence maybe just 1-2 times a week - but yes it used to be there before. Opening many tabs as I wanted in chrome, firefox or explorer was never a problem earlier.

I have the problem is only with internet browsing - playing videos, music, work on excel, ppt etc is no problem.

I can't figure out whether it is a hard drive problem or something else. I remembered that I had changed the room earlier and the problem started so I have put it down.

Appreciate any help!

Recently, web browsing with Mozilla Firefox would cause seemingly random full system freezes. These freezes occur only on specific sites, but not consistently on every occasion of visiting said sites.

For instance wikipedia is one such troublesome site that gives me freezes. I visit one of the pages (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis) and halfway through the loading of the page contents, my system totally freezes up; the cursor does not respond, ctrl alt del doesnt work, and the hard disk LED does not flash. After a hard reboot, I reopen Firefox again, restoring my previous session, and reloading that specific page. This time round, everything works out fine and I'm able to browse that page without any problems. From that page however, I click on a link to another wikipedia article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket), and again my system freezes up halfway through loading, and the only solution is a hard reboot again.

This does not seem to be an issue when I use Internet Explorer.
My Firefox version is 3.5.3 and I am running on Windows XP Home edition.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I posted about this issue last night, but there seems to have been a problem with the forum and my thread got deleted some how. Britton30 was giving me a hand, but I thought I'd repost my issue.

My computer has been randomly freezing about every 2 or 3 days (no BSOD). When it freezes there is no activity on the HDD light, and everything just locks up. It has happened while browsing (both Firefox and Chrome), while gaming, and while working in Maya 2011. I recently wiped my hard drive (using Derik's Boot n' Nuke) and reloaded Windows. I ran into an issue validating it because I forgot I had changed my video card. I called Microsoft and they got it all figured out for me. I reloaded all everything onto my computer without any problems.

I thought the freeze might have been caused for some reason by Steam, so I reloaded that. When my computer continued to freeze I updated my GPU drivers (wiping the old ones with Driver Sweeper). My computer is set up to run a weekly sweep with AVG free and Malwarebytes, and I regularly scan with Spybot.

Britton30 had me check my HDD with the Western Digital Data Lifeguard program, and after a full scan everything checked out. Over night I ran a memory test with memtest86+ (8 full passes), and that returned no errors.

My system specs:
OS: Windows 7 Professional
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1050
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-690FXA-UD5
GPU: HD 6050 (shaders are unlocked, but I did that way before reloading everything without any issues).

Alright, so i've had my computer for quite a while now and im starting to see a few errors here and there. I've tried several things to fix my problems but none of them seem to have worked.

Let me begin by describing the issue.
When i'm playing a game or just watching something on youtube my computer will either BSOD or freeze for a few seconds and then say: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver , Version 301.24 stopped responding and has been recovered".
furthermore whenever my computer crashes it seems to have a very hard time starting up again. The screens usually go black after the windows logo has appeared, and after that a hard shut down is required and if im lucky ill be able to login.

Im thinking its a driver related problem seeing that i can boot up in safe mode with no problems?
*Edit* Is there anyway to move this thread to the crashes and debugging section?

Additional information:

I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 with service pack 1.
I'm using two Nvidia Gtx470 graphic cards with the newest drivers.
I have tried ALL the drivers for these cards and i have performed a clean install of them, though without any luck.
The problems started after i updated my driver to a newer version.
I have tried lowering my GPU, which didn't help.
I have been playing around in the nvidia controle panel. (Lowering the PhysX quality etc)
It's not my computer overheating.
It might have something to do with SLI seeing that when my SLI is activated its ... Read more

heres the issue,

Im using a laptop, dual core, amd, 4 gigs memory, 64 bit, win xp pro upgraded from win 7 home premium which was upgraded from vista. ( im on a laptop, so doing a clean install vs a upgrade would do more harm then good to do the proprietary software and drivers and all of that such) ( plus i got the upgrade from my Manufacturer. )

the problem doesnt happen EVERYTIME ( and im going to load up my pc with more pics to try and replicate it) but the issue is this, sometimes when im downloading zips or pictures using utorrent, if i preview them, i eather get this ( http://attachments.techguy.org/attachments...08/img_0150.jpg ) or the BSOD ( APC_INDEX_MISMATCH ) . it also happens when u torrent isnt even on, so that eliminates that, and its with multiple things so its not a bad file or a virus or anything. It also sometimes happens when im browsing through my pictures ,or my document type files.

I dont think its hardware because im a gamer, and i watch a lot of movies streaming and such, and i think if it was a hardware issue it would be more predominant and not JUST when im doing those things( pictures, zips ect). I havent a clue what it is, and i believe i have the most up to date video / sound / wifi drivers. I have tryed resetting the memory, doing a memory test and a hard drive test, all came back clean, and re setting the memory didnt do anything. ive called hp and they cant help me much, i keep hearing your going to have to do a restore and if that dont wor... My Yoga 910 has developed the annoying habit of briefly but frequently spiking CPU usage of the "System" process (as shown in Task Manager) for between one and ten seconds at a time, during which the computer becomes laggy to unusable. The Chrome browser, in particular, becomes unusable/unresponsive when this happens. Scrolling in the browser seems especially likely to trigger the issue. Using Process Explorer from Sysinternals shows that the thread for which CPU spikes is in the routine: dxgmms2.sys!VidMmInterface+0x453d0 The best I've been able to determine, this is part of DirectX 12 and concerns video memory. Best "solution" seems to be "upgrade your video driver", but I'm already running the most recent Intel HD 620 driver available from Lenovo. (  Is anybody else seeing this?

Hi All,I have a yoga 520 bought 3 months back. I have been constantly facing laptop freeze issue. It randomly happens while doing normal work like opening any file in Windows explorer or surfing net on Chrome. Below are the observations: The pointer moves but nothing opens/closes.I am not even able to open Task manger when this happens. CTL+ALT+DLT doesn't do anything. The action centre opens sometimes but all the options becomes disabled when this happens. The thing to note here is that no heavy task is running which might consume the CPU/memory. So I am pretty sure this is not a performance issue but something else. I have to long press the power button and start it again to get it working. Also my Windows 10 is upto date. I suspect that this has started happening after Windows Fall Creator update but I am not really sure. I have also referred below link which suggests to update the BIOS which I did but no results.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/New-Yoga-900-Constantly-Freezing/td-p/2229... Could anyone please help on this? let me know if you are facing the same issue.

Been there a number of times.
Some things to check.  First, and we all say this, update all your drivers and BIOS. Let's just make sure that's ALL up to date. Everything.
If it's still happening, check two things: Event Viewer System logs. Look for errors and let us know what they are. Second, use Task Manager to see if something's eating up resources that would overwhem the keystroke buffer. The latter has been my problem a number of times.
Let us know what you find.

Hello, I'm experiencing issues with my Lenovo Yoga 2 13. It started at the time of the anniversary update of Windows 10 Home although I can't be sure it really started there. Before that everything was running smoothly. Symtoms:- In some applications the sound gets noisy, like an old scratched vinyl disk.- When running my old Warcraft III (normally in Win XP compatibility mode), the computer freezes in a loud buzzing sound after a random time, from 2 minutes to 1 hour. Forced shut-down pressing the power knob is the only way to unfreeze it. What I tried and didn't improve the situation:- Reinstalling the applications.- Changing the audio drivers to a generic version.- Updating Windows and all possible drivers.- Reliability monitor -While trying to update the BIOS using Insyde H20FFT from the Lenovo Support I get an error:"Get platform ROM map error in SMI!"SMI Return Code: 0xEF I'm trying to figure out if it's a hardware issue before reinstalling everything. I'd be happy to try your suggestions.

I have come to my last resort, which feels like I have wasted money on this Yoga - It has taken me almost a year, I still don't have a clean event log and the only thing I have minimized is the locking up of the machine when the nvidea goes haywire.  Simple answer - on edge and explorer I force fed it the crappy Intel chip.  Now it's 'rev up' is limited.   I'm running Win10Pro 64bit. up to date on everything.  This situation has been since the first day I used this thing.  I can't trust it enough to use for work, so here it sits. just something to do nothing much with.   Is there a real fix for this that makes better sense than having a GPU that isn't used?

Hey, So i bought a lenovo yoga 520 laptop early this year and at first was very happy with the product. I have a fairly new Yoga 920 I purchased back in November, 2017. Yesterday morning, when I was trying to start it from a shutdown, it got stuck on the splash screen. After several tries and getting stuck at the same splash screen, I tried a CHKDSK, which didnt's find any errors on the disk. Then I tried booting in Safe Mode, which worked with no problems. Since it boots fine into Safe Mode and but  not in normal start, I thought this was a driver issue. So, I started disabling components from the device manager, one by one, to see what driver was causing the issue. Qualcom WLAN Driver was the reason. I could boot in windows per usual after disabling the wifi adapter from the device manager. So, I decided to reinstall the driver after uninstalling the old one, but as soon as the driver starts installing laptop froze again. No BSOD or restart. Just frozen image on the screen, no response after waiting 5-10 mins. I actually had to disable wifi from bios to be able to use the laptop again with ethernet adapter I have. I am guessing this is a hardware related issue, so I ordered an intel 8260 ac adapter to see if that fixes my problem. Any ideas on what kind of issue there might be with the Qualcom adapter?

Ever since I updated windows 10 to creator's update I've had freezing problems with my notebook.  It occurs anytime I do ANYTHING connected with my web camera, display and audio settings.  It's not random - I can recreate the freeze.  I've updated my bios to the latest version, and every device driver from the Lenovo web site for my product, and every necessary driver from Intel and windows 10 update.  I also used Lenovo one step recovery to go back to the original factory settings and began applying all of the windows 10 updates since 11/2015.  I got as far as version 1079, and began having some windows update issues and that process was consuming too much of my time.  So,  I decided to restore everything back to where I was before one step recovery - meaning I can still 'make' my notebook freeze on demand if I try to change the dispay settings, adjust the volume or try to use the webcam.  Anybody have any similar problems and resolve them?

Somewhere between you and about 1 packet in 6 is being lost or delayed beyond ping's threshold. Maybe the destination site is busy, maybe your ISP is busy, maybe general network congestion. Not desirable, but not so weired either.

The very first boot of my Yoga 920 13 glass gave me an application exception during initial configuration.  See below.  I guess I don't need to highlight the irony of the background.  Anyone know what causes this?  Just poor testing? When I tried to boot my laptop up the next day, it acted even more strange.   When I logged into the main Windows screen (either via PIN or scan fingerprint), I got a black screen with a cursor...nothing else.  I waited up to 20 minutes, then tried multiple times to power on and off and the same cycle kept happening.  The login went nowhere.  I finally held down the power button until the machine fully turned off and then it worked fine when I restarted. Anyone else having these odd things happen?   It's a really poor first time experience.

I have an issue that seems to be popping up whenever I play any game (have only tested a couple, will test more once I have posted).
Its a complete freeze (although sound continues), and if i try to tab out of ctrl-alt-del it does one of two things: nothing, or, screen goes black. I have had to hard reset each time. It didnt seem to like the hard reset either and I think in two of the four resets resulted in a blank screen again - another hard reset after a few minutes and it seemed to boot ok.
I have followed BSOD instructions, but not sure if that will help in these circumstances. I have also added the problem details.

I would like to continue using Windows XP and I was recommended to install the Time Freeze or Deep Freeze software program. Can anybody tell me what the difference is between Time Freeze and Deep Freeze software being that Time Freeze is free and Deep Freeze is $ 45.00/year. The Pro's and Con's for each would be appreciated. Thanks.

A client is running NT4 BackOffice. Two PPTP connections are set up to allow users to log in via RAS. I am looking for a way to set the timeout value for these connections. No luck so far. Any suggestions for what the registry hack might be?

I have an HP W2081d monitor attached to a laptop computer at me desk.  The OSD timeout max is 60 seconds on the monitor despite the fact that my power settings contradict this.  I do not want to have to log back into my computer every time I go 60 seconds without moving my mouse of touching a button.  I cannot find a way to shut the OSD timeout option off.  There are several other options to put the monitor to sleep at the time of my choosing, so I do not understand why this is even a necessary feature.

Is there a way to increase the DVD ROM drive read-timeout value? I have some DVD's that are not recognized (shows no media present), until I eject & re-insert the DVD several times.
Alternatively, is there a way for Windows XP to force-read the media (DVD) without having to eject/re-insert?

I think it has something to do with how long the DVD drive tries to access the DVD before giving up.

I am running Windows XP Home SP3 on a Compaq notebook.

Hi everyone,

I am having trouble accessing a certain webpage (www.enjoytheshowvideo.com). When I attempt to access it I get a "Cannot find server or DNS Error". I have done some research and found it has nothing to do with the two servers that host my files and that it has something to do with the page not loading fast enough and thus timing out, giving me the error. Is there any way to make it so that it won't time out? Maybe change a setting or something?

I'm using WinXP Pro pre SP1 and IE lastest version. For the past few months I seem to fail on my first attempt at going to a web page. Most of the time pressing the refresh button gets the page to display. Therefore I'm thinking that IE is giving up too quickly before the DNS server returns the IP address to get to the page. Am I misunderstanding this? Is there something I can do? It's especially annoying when I fill out forms of multiple pages and one of pages fails to display, so I have to start all over again. Help would be much appreciated. TIA.
