Script to select and delete several lines in word2003

Q: Script to select and delete several lines in word2003

Hi all,

I have a question.
I'm trying to build a VB script, that can select and delete several lines of text in a word document. The Document is too large to do it by hand (almost 400 pages), but the pieces of text that need to be removed from the document always start with </par> and end with </rubriek>
I made a script to delete the lines containing <par>, but these skip the lines that don't contain this tag, which happens often:

Sub FindItem1()
With Selection.Find
.Text = "<par>"
.Replacement.Text = ""
.Forward = True
.Wrap = wdFindContinue
.Format = False
.MatchCase = False
.MatchWholeWord = False
.MatchWildcards = False
.MatchSoundsLike = False
.MatchAllWordForms = False
End With
If Selection.Find.Execute Then
Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdLine
Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdLine, Extend:=wdExtend
End If
End Sub
Does anybody have a better idea than this? I can't immagine that it is very hard to do, I just cant find the appropriate VB code online.

With kind regards,

Preferred Solution: Script to select and delete several lines in word2003

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i am having a .tsv file about 1024 KB and the line count is not same in all the .tsv files.
every file has last 5 lines that needs to be deleted. is there a script or .bat file script that will do this....

A:.bat file script to delete last 5 lines

I'm not super familiar with TSV files but if they can be opened with Excel you can easily add a few lines of macro code to delete the last 5 lines and then re-save. If they can't be opened Excel you can try to use VBS script to open the file and modify it. If you can you post a sample file I can try to code it for you.

Not sure which forum to put this in, but hey. I'm messing around with .vbs scripts, and want to make it so that it asks if you want to run the program, and if you select yes, it runs, and if you select no, nothing happens (apart from the box closing). So far i have this:

x = MsgBox("Do you wish to run the program X?",4, "Run Program?")

That does what i want; bring up a box, with yes no, but what's the command for starting a program? if anyone could link to a list of common VBS commands that would be great.

I need a very simple script, in CGI-Perl or even bash language, and to be started from a browser form, to just read a file, finding a specific line by comparing to a received pattern, and from this line ahead always list 3 lines.

Considering, for instance, this file, that I would call: rejected.log:

11111111 22222222 33333333
22222222 bbbbbbbb ccccccccc
jdjfheduf sdkfheuf idifhdihfif
difheihfi eiofjeif efi9ef eijh eifje fef
aaaaaaaa 22222222 33333333
ddddddddd bbbbbbbb ccccccccc
kdjgirir iofejgiejrg ioerugejge
ljeri 98rg398 gio3jrg9 3rjoer

If I run the script by:

scriptname aaaaaaaa

It should list the lines:

aaaaaaaa 22222222 33333333
ddddddddd bbbbbbbb ccccccccc
kdjgirir iofejgiejrg ioerugejge

Please, note that it also should list all the existing occurrences of the same aaaaaaaa through the file.

I thank a lot in advance for this so special help.

Hello. I work in a computer store in Indonesia as an administrator. My job is to create invoices. My crazy supervisor wants to see trimmed label address. She said it's more beautiful to look at -,-' Problem is the address I receive is always jumbled into one long line. Separating them (based on street address, etc) takes time. During the national shopping day, where we can have like 500 invoices in a day, I don't think I can handle it.

Below is one example of the address data that I have to work with:
Alamat Pengiriman
Agus, 62812345678
Perumahan Orang Kaya, Jl.Jalan 2 BLOK H1/1001, Katulampa, Bogor Barat, KOTA BOGOR, BOGOR Barat - KOTA, JAWA BARAT, ID, 12345

The result I want is:
Perumahan Orang Kaya
Jl.Jalan 2
BLOK H1/1001
Bogor Barat

Of course, I understand it is impossible for a script to wholly replace man's logic. But if the script can help me create new lines based on several conditions, it will greatly help me. The conditions are as follow..
New line is made immediately before:
1. Word "Jalan" or "Jl." or "Jl"
2. Word "Perumahan" or "Perum"
3. Word "Blok" or "Block"
4. Word "RT" or "RT***" (*=number)
5. Word "Gang" or "Gg." or "Gg"
6. Word "Kel." or "Kel" or "Kelurahan"
7. Word "Kec." or "Kec" or... Read more

Hello Good Morning Thanks for reading this.

I made a form. I put some VBA Code in it. I added some form fields, buttons and some checkboxes on a user form. I am not sure what the up and down arrows are called but I have a bunch of those. The form is perfect for what i need, except, when i print the workbook there are three horizonal dashed oddly spaced lines printing. I can not see them in the normal view, i can not see them in the page break preview. I see a few dashed squiggles in the print preview in the place that the lines print, but I can not for the life of me figure out how they got there. I tried to delete in the cell, i tried to adjust the line settings by changing size and color. i tried to cover the spot with a white text box. i tried to delete the entire row. then i tried to delete the entire top part of my form the lines just moved closer to the top of the page. then i tried to see if a copy and paste helped (although I did it into another worksheet in the same workbook) it just took the lines when i pasted. i even tried, edit, goto, special, objects and the action was to select the first text box i have on the form. I believe that the lines might have appreared after inserting a form field (button i think) and then moving it to a different location. I am using Excel 2002 and if anyone has any idea of what is going on here, i would really be greatful for the help!

A:Word macro: Delete 102 lines from beginning of document

I don't do Word macros but ... did you try recording something yourself?

I did, and got:

Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
Selection.MoveDown Unit:=wdLine, Count:=4, Extend:=wdExtend

Obviously that's for just the first 4 lines. And the next thing will be where the docs are all stored. (?)

I wish to create a script that can be easily altered to delete reg keys but without knowing their location in the registry. In other words, I would like the script to have an option to enter the name of the key to search for, e.g, "mcafee". The script should then interogate the registry and delete any keys which match the search criteria.

Any ideas guys?

A:Script to delete reg keys

Welcome to the forum.
Any such application, of which there are many, just Google it, is dangerous. A search for a registry key with an entry, lets take McAfee for example, which then automatically deletes it, is dangerous.
You would very likely end up with a non-working computer. You will presumably know that McAfee alters many registry keys appertaining to functions OTHER than just McAfee. A search tool that found entries with this and then deleted them, could not possibly determine between those which were purely McAfee and those which were also something else.
If you do not realise the dangers, my advice is leave it alone, otherwise your next thread will very likely be something on the lines of, "Please help, I cannot load windows"

I have acquired a script from the internet which deletes all the locally cached profiles on a computer if they are not on the specified list of exceptions.

By default, I think it does something like this:

Gets all the folders in the 'Users' directory > Goes through the list of exceptions > Deletes all the folders which aren't on the list of exceptions > If a folder can't be deleted, it leaves it behind and goes onto the next one. (This means it doesn't hang).

This is ok, but a lot of the time, profiles with incorrect owners are present. In this case, the script won't be able to delete the profile, will move onto the next one, leaving it behind. I need all the folders which are non-exempt to be deleted.

I need it to do the following:

Get all the folders in the 'Users' directory > Go through the list of exceptions > Change the owner of all folders which are non-exempt > Delete all folders which are non-exempt (which it should be able to do at this point) > In case of some unknown error, go onto the next one (for the sake of it not hanging).

I have had a go at this myself, but I haven't quite got it. Note: I may need to set the permissions as well, but if I can get it to set the owner, I can simply add the permissions bit as a switch on the subinacl command.

I have attached the script. Please let me know if you need any more information and thanks for any help with this.

I'm old. I've been using Word2003 for my emails and journal for years. I now have Windows 8.1 and Word2003 worked fine until I installed Outlook 2013 so I could have an IMAP account for email. Now, I cannot load Word 2003 from my Office2003 disk.

Hi! I am trying to set up a script to delete flashcookies on a daily basis as I don't want corporations, spammers and spooks to track me online..

The flash cookies are saved here: D:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects
Often they are inside a folder, so the folders inside Shared Objects must be deleted too.

I put the below, but it doesn't work! Any ideas why?

del /F /Q /S D:\Users\Hanni\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\*.*

RMDIR /S /Q D:\Users\Hanni\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects

A:Bat script to delete flash cookies - I can't get it right!

Just at first glance, Yes,,,,, you must put the whole path inside of Quotes.

You're actually performing a DOS command routine, and DOS cannot read that long path, without the Quotes. OK?

Your command line should look more like this:
del /F /Q /S "D:\Users\Hanni\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\*.*"

And once you've deleted everything in a folder, it's not necessary to remove the folder itself.

But, I have to ask..... why is that stuff on Drive "D" ???
I would usually expect to find it on drive "C". Many computers don't even have a drive "D".

Good Luck,

Typically a clone of a drive to another replaces what is on the target drive with what is on the original. So if you are cloning you shouldn't have old copies/versions.

So you are not cloning, correct?

What program are you using for whatever you are doing?

I have this below .vbs script code that I use to delete two files from an FTP site. Sometimes one or both of the below files (LTRDOWN01 and CABCALLS.txt) doesn't exist, so that when the vbs code is executed an error occurs. How can I modify the code so that each Remove statement is executed *only* if the file exists?
thanks in advance,

MySite.Protocol = "FTP"
MySite.Port = 21
MySite.Retries = 34
MySite.Delay = 7
MySite.MaxConnections = 4
MySite.TransferType = "ASCII"

MySite.RemoteRemove "/u/sting/tapefiles/CABCALLS.txt"

A:.vbs script: FTP attempt to delete a file *only* if it already exists

Do you always want to "try" and delete these files even if they don't exist?
you could do this -

On error resume next
MySite.RemoteRemove "/u/sting/tapefiles/LTRDOWN01"
MySite.RemoteRemove "/u/sting/tapefiles/CABCALLS.txt"
On Error Goto 0

THe on error resume next disables the script stopping then the on error goto 0 makes it so it no longer will bypass stopping on an error.

Hi all,

What's the correct script to delete all temporary files from ALL user profiles inside C:\Documents and Settings or C:\Users ??

This is what I used and tested but it only delete the temp files from the current profile, not all profiles:

PHP Code:

@echo off

echo Disk cleanupThis will delete all temporary files stored in all profiles' directories and subdirectories.

rd /s /q "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp"
rd /s /q "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files"

rd /s /q "C:\Windows\Temp"

cleanmgr /sagerun:99

Your help will be highly appreciated...

Hi guys,
I found out recently that the "Hibernate" feature on windows could potentially compromise truecrypt keys, and certain content from an encrypted drive or encrypted virtual partition.

When I found out, I sought to remove the "hibernate" feature from my computer, and remove the "Hiberfil.sys" file that could be potentially holding sensitive information.

Now, you're probably thinking "why would you want a batch script to do that? Its located on C: (windows partition drive), just go there, and delete it!"...
The problem with that, is the fact that I have had windows on multiple drives, of which I have not re-formatted yet, and also have windows XP installed on the same partition as my windows 7 OS.

So basically, I just want to make a batch file, that will work with windows 7, to search for "hiberfil.sys" through a hard drive (I'll just copy the batch file to each partition's root and run it on each partition separately), then delete the file or files if there are multiples of them.

The search will need to include "hidden" attributes, and perhaps include "system" files, and "read only" files in the search too, but not limit the search to those attributes (also include files with no special attributes attached).
I just want to do a good, clean purge of any hiberfil files on any partition.
Anyone able to help me out with this?

A:Search for, and Delete hiberfil.sys files using batch script.

If you have several Windows installs, you need to go inside each and disable sleep before you can delete that hiperfil. Maybe it won't let you delete that file when the feature is enabled.

On several of the computers at work, I am running out of hard disk space. The culprit seems to be the Temp folders in Local Settings. Some of these computers may have up to 50 user profiles.
I'd like to be able to delete the files in the C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp folder on an XP machine, where xxx is the user name. I was hoping to use wildcards to target the user as all of the users that I am concerned with have a similar beginning (same numbers)to their user name
If possible I'd like to run a batch file on startup or shut down instead of pushing out a script on a routine basis. I was also worried about erroring out if the folder did not exist for a particular user. I believe I would need to unhide the folder as well.

In MS Word 2003 (I have Win XP Home), I have never been able to get a recently-used file list to appear under the File menu. When I go to Tools/Options/General, the box where I would normally list how many entries I wish for that function is completely greyed-out. Any ideas? Thanks!

A:MS Word2003 Recently used file list not operable

If logged in as an Administrator then that option should be enabled and working.

However, if logged in as a limited account then the option may be disabled.

Would someone please tell me how I can DISABLE the idiotic default Text Paste Option in MS WORD2003 SP2? (winxp home version)

For over 15 years I've simply copied/pasted. Now, any text copied from any web page (be it a hyperlink, a word or paragraph from an article or image caption, etc) to a word document is automatically treated as HTML instead of simply as TEXT (as was the case in WORD97 and earlier).

If I forget the workaround intermediate step of pasting Clipboard contents to Notepad (to strip away hidden code), pasting the text freezes Word for about 45-seconds before the text block and a "Paste Option" tag display. At that point, I can change formatting to "Keep Text Only", but the delay is FRUSTRATING and UNNECESSARY.

There's gotta be a way to opt out of or disable this moronic "convenience" so that anything pasted is treated as text. Searching MSFT Help files has so far been a major waste of time. Could it be as simple as changing something buried in Options, or changing NORMAL.dot???? If so, my face will still be red, just not from anger.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, guys. Owning expensive software I can't afford to upgrade as often as MSFT, Adobe, Quark et al want has me stranded in eternal catch-up mode. Once again, the Gates Demolition Crew inexplicably decided to relocate a lightswitch that was on the same side of the door for years. A:WORD2003 - How to disable Text Paste as HTML

Don't know about disabling it, but "Edit", "Paste Special" and selecting either the Unformatted or Unicode text option works for me. Use the Customize Toolbars feature to add the "Paste Special" icon to the Standard toolbar. Saves Clicking edit first. If you use short cut keys you can assign a new shortcut under the same Customize Toolbars feature by clicking on the "Keyboard" Icon. Select "Edit" under "Categories", scroll down under "Commands" and select "editpastespecial". Choose your preferred options from there.

Have posted this to both XP forum and the networks forum so please bear with me if you see it twice

We have 5 users at single remote site using new XP Pro workstations [with all updates and patches installed] across 500adsl VPN connection to a Windows2000 server. They also use this setup to access specialist industry specific software which runs as fast as if they were local to the server.

However when they attempt to use Word2003 accessing files on the remote server the air turns blue. We have run some tests as follows:
1. For our main office with 10 users all Word2003 functionality - with their files also al saved on the server - is fine effectively instantaneous for all actions
2. For the remote site the following are typical timings:
a. Open their local copy of Word2003: instantaneous
b. Select open file [icon or file-open command] which opens their space on the remote server: 6 secs until list completed [typically contains about 30 to 50 smallish files]
c. Open a specific word document of 25k size (to the time regain mouse/cursor control): 12 secs
d. Close and save the file to moment regain cursor control: 40++ secs

Have asked our VPN provider to monitor traffic and they tell us there is no bottleneck issue, which the speed of the specialist software seems to confirm. We decided to allow the remote site to save word documents locally to a (currently) spare XP pro workstation and created a shared folder for them all to use there. If then redo the above tests the follow... Read more
